September 29, 2022 –

Aer Lingus is to launch a new transatlantic route for summer 2023 which will see the airline operate its first service to Cleveland in Ohio, with connections from nine UK airports.

Aer Lingus announces Cleveland

Starting on 19 May 2023, the new North America service will operate four times a week. This will be Aer Lingus’ 15th transatlantic route from Ireland and the only direct European service to Cleveland.
UK customers will be able to connect on onto Aer Lingus’ Cleveland service via Dublin from nine UK airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol, Southampton, and Leeds Bradford.

Fares start from £249* each way as part of a return journey.
Flying via its Dublin Hub, UK customers can benefit from US Immigration Pre-clearance, which allows them to arrive into the US like a domestic passenger, avoiding any lengthy immigration queues.

Next summer Aer Lingus will offer customers a choice of 15 transatlantic routes between Ireland and North America, as well as three long-haul services from its Manchester bas

Rebuilding connectivity and growing its transatlantic network is critical to Aer Lingus’ long-term growth strategy as it continues its recovery following the pandemic.

The addition of Cleveland as a new destination demonstrates the airline’s commitment to connecting Europe to North America via its Dublin Hub.
Travellers from Cleveland will benefit from a direct connection to Ireland and its seamless onward connections to more than 20 key European cities – London, Paris, Manchester, Amsterdam, Dusseldorf, Brussels, Lyon and Edinburgh, among others.

Reid Moody, Aer Lingus Chief Strategy & Planning Officer, said: “This is a significant announcement for Aer Lingus as we deliver on our ambition to grow our transatlantic network.
“The commencement of a new route, accompanied with further network connectivity, is an exciting milestone for the airline during a critical time of recovery for our business.
“The new service to Cleveland not only provides a direct connection to Ireland but connections to over 20 popular European destinations via our Dublin Hub.”

Dennis Kramer, Cleveland Hopkins Airport Interim Airport Director, said: “Aer Lingus is an award-winning airline that continues to grow with new destinations across the globe.
“We are truly excited for the opportunity to have nonstop service for travellers to connect to Ireland and the many other European destinations. Our team has worked for years to bring this route to Cleveland for our community.”
The new Dublin-Cleveland service will be served by an Airbus A321neo LR, which is Aer Lingus’ most sustainable long-haul aircraft.

The Airbus A321neo LR, which comprises both Business Cabin and Economy Class cabin, delivers up to 20% reduction in fuel burn and CO2 emissions and close to 50% reduction in noise footprint, when compared to previous generation aircraft.
Located in the U.S. state of Ohio, Cleveland is the largest city on Lake Erie and one of the biggest in the Great Lakes region.

Cleveland is known as the birthplace of rock and roll, for its vibrant art and culture scene and its picturesque parklands

Some of the city’s most popular attractions include the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Cleveland Orchestra, Playhouse Square, and the infamous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

WIZZ Air flights to Italy expansion with 12 new routes

WIZZ Air flights to Italy

WIZZ Air flights to Italy

September 29, 2022 – WIZZ Air flights to Italy are expanding with 12 new routes

WIZZ AIR ANNOUNCES CONTINUED EXPANSION ACROSS ITALY

  • An additional 750,000 seats on sale from Rome and Milan
  • 12 new routes launching from October 2022
  • The latest expansion makes Wizz Air the third largest airline in Italy

Wizz Air, Europe’s fastest-growing and most sustainable airline, announces further expansion to its bases in Italy, making it the third largest airline in the country. Wizz Air is -allocating three of its Airbus A321neo aircraft to its bases at Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa: two to Rome and one to Milan

The allocation of these aircraft is enabling the launch of 12 new routes as well as increased frequency on five routes from Rome Fiumicino and three routes from Milan Malpensa. The new routes launch from October 2022, with tickets available now at wizzair.com or on the airline’s mobile app.

WIZZ Air flights to Italy: The allocation of two more aircraft to Wizz Air’s Rome Fiumicino base will grow the base to seven aircraft. The move brings the number of routes from the base to 65, including the launch of seven new routes from Italy’s capital city. Passengers will now be able to fly to Barcelona, Gothenburg, Malaga, Paris Orly, Porto, Seville and Valencia. Furthermore, the additional capacity allows Wizz Air to increase the frequency of its flights from the base to Eindhoven, Hurghada, Paris Orly, Tel Aviv and Yerevan.

Milan Malpensa will receive an additional aircraft, making it a six aircraft base. As such, Wizz Air will introduce five new routes to Cardiff, Jeddah, Marsa Alam, Riyadh and Yerevan starting from October 2022. This additional capacity also means that Wizz Air can increase flight frequency on routes to Tel Aviv, Catania and Athens. With this expansion the airline will operate routes to 43 destinations from Milan Malpensa.

“We are delighted to be expanding in Italy to be the country’s third largest airline, demonstrating our commitment to growing our presence in the market. The allocation of these three additional aircraft in Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa allows us to further strengthen our domestic market offer, giving our customers the opportunity to travel to 12 new destinations from Rome and Milan,” comments Robert Carey, President of Wizz Air.

Wizz Air’s continued focus on providing its customers low-cost and varied routes across its network means that the airline has taken the difficult decision to close its base at Palermo Airport. From 3 November 2022, the aircraft that is currently based there will be redeployed to support the expansion in Rome and Milan.

The airline will continue to fly to Palermo Airport, operating daily flights between Milan Malpensa and Venice Marco Polo and Palermo, ensuring it can continue to serve loyal domestic customers. While routes between Palermo and Turin and Bologna will cease, this represents only 4% of Wizz Air’s domestic Italian schedule. Wizz Air will continue to operate more than 220 domestic weekly flights and will expand its service from Turin and Bologna to its base at Catania Fontanarossa Airport, where Wizz Air has three based aircraft.

Etihad has earned an on-time arrival performance rating of 83% or better within 15 minutes since April.

Croatia airlines is planning to connect Croatia with 13 international destinations

Croatia Airlines

Croatia airlines expands

September 28, 2022 -During the winter season, Croatia’s flag carrier will be connecting Croatia with 13 European destinations

In the 2022/2023 winter timetable, Croatia Airlines, Croatia’s flag carrier and member of Star Alliance, is introducing new international routes, is continuing to operate flights on a number of seasonal routes, and is increasing the total number of flights and seats available compared to last year’s winter period.

Croatia Airlines

In the period between 30th October this year and 25th March 2023, Croatia’s flag carrier is planning to connect Croatia with 13 international destinations, and operate flights on a total of 19 international routes. More specifically, the company is planning to operate more than 8,500 scheduled flights, and offer approximately 869,000 seats, which is a 28 percent increase in the number of flights and seats offered this winter compared to the number of flights and seats offered in the 2021/2022 winter timetable. In other words, during the winter months, Croatia’s flag carrier is looking to contribute to the development of both Croatia’s tourism product and the transport infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia significantly.

The introduction of direct international flights between Split and Zurich, and between Pula and Zurich is a novelty. In the period between the end of October this year and mid-January 2023, we will be operating flights on both routes twice a week – on Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Return air tickets for passengers flying from either Split or Pula are available from 149 euros.

In response to increased market demand, the company is continuing to operate scheduled international flights between Rijeka and Munich even in the winter timetable; more specifically, until mid-January 2023. On this route, flights will be available three times a week – on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

The company is also continuing to operate scheduled international flights between Zagreb and Dublin until mid-January 2023. On this route, flights will be available twice a week – on Thursdays, and Sundays. Return air tickets for passengers flying on this route are available from 189 euros.

Also, Croatia Airlines is continuing to connect the east of Croatia with the world throughout the entire year by flying on the Osijek-Munich international route. Two flights a week will be available to passengers – on Mondays, and Fridays – with return air tickets starting from 129 euros.

During the winter season, Croatia’s flag carrier will be connecting Zagreb Airport directly with a total of 13 international destinations – Amsterdam, Vienna, Brussels, Dublin, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, London (Heathrow), Munich, Paris, Rome (via Split), Sarajevo, Skopje, and Zurich.

From Split Airport, flights to four international destinations are planned; more specifically, flights will be operated daily to Munich (return air tickets starting from 149 euros), daily to Frankfurt (return air tickets starting from 169 euros), daily to Rome (return air tickets starting from 109 euros), and twice a week to Zurich.

Besides expanding its international network of flights, Croatia Airlines is also continuing to maintain the air connectivity of Croatia’s cities and regions by offering scheduled domestic flights to and from 5 Croatian airports (Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Zadar, and Pula).

Croatia Airlines’ network of both international and domestic flights during the winter season has been tailored to meet the market demand for air transport services, which the company continuously monitors. The planned flight timetable is subject to change, and depends on the development of the public health and safety, and security situation in both Croatia and the world.

Emirates

Emirates expands flight schedules across Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban

Emirates

Emirates expands flight schedules across Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban

September 27, 2022 –

Emirates will be bringing new travel opportunities, choice and convenience for customers traveling to and from South Africa with additional services to Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. The ramp up of flights are part of the airline’s ongoing commitment to support South Africa’s economic and tourism recovery through enhanced connectivity across all of its gateways. The airline’s latest move also reaffirms South Africa’s strategic importance on its network, as it prioritises service expansion and rebuilding its capacity to unlock further growth potential.

Emirates Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban

The airline will be expanding its schedule to and from Johannesburg with three daily flights from 1 March 2023. Cape Town will be served with double daily services starting from 1 February 2023. Emirates will also be adding two more flights to Durban, making it a daily operation from 1 December 2022. The reintroduction of the new flights between Dubai and the airline’s three gateways in South Africa will enhance Emirates’ schedule to 42 weekly services.

Emirates’ flight EK 767 from Dubai to Johannesburg will operate with a Boeing 777 aircraft, complementing its double daily A380 operation. The flight will depart at 2325hrs, arriving at 0535hrs the next day to Johannesburg. The return flight will depart Johannesburg at 2220hrs and arrives in Dubai at 0820hrs the next morning. The third daily flight from Johannesburg will help meet high demand with more than 300 available seats each way, and will offer additional flexibility for South African travellers with a new evening departure* for easier connectivity to Europe, the Americas, West Asia and Far East via Dubai.

Emirates’ second daily service to Cape Town will depart Dubai at 0910hrs, landing at 1645hrs. It will then depart Cape Town at 1325hrs, arriving in Dubai at 0110hrs the next day. With the double daily service to Cape Town, the airline will have restored its pre-pandemic schedule, supporting the city’s tourism industry right during peak season arrivals by providing convenient connectivity from key source markets such as Europe, the Middle East, West Asia and Australasia. As part of its longstanding commitment to support tourism recovery efforts in South Africa, Emirates and the South African Tourism Board signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) earlier this year to jointly promote tourism and boost visitor arrivals to South Africa across the airline’s network of over 130 passenger destinations.

The additional services to all three gateways will also benefit customers with more connecting choices to an array of domestic and regional cities across Southern Africa via Emirates’ codeshare and interline partners including South African Airways, Airlink, FlySafair and Cemair. The unique connections and onward travel options are not offered by any other airline.

Customers flying between Dubai and South Africa can look forward to an elevated experience across every cabin class, with thoughtfully designed menus and locally sourced beverages, signature amenities and exceptional hospitality delivered by the airline’s diverse, multinational crew.

The airline continues to raise the bar on the premium experience for its South African customers with a local selection of South African wines including Ken Forrester, Porseleinberg, Klein Constantia, Waterkloof, Boekenhoutskloof, amongst others. In addition to this, customers can look forward to dining on authentic, proudly South African dishes and flavours with an array of local cheeses and Rooibos-inspired cuisine.

In addition to providing much needed seat capacity in and out of South Africa, Emirates’ new flights to Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban will collectively provide more cargo belly-hold capacity to further scale up import and export opportunities for local businesses, helping carry vital exports including seafood, fruits and vegetables, fresh and frozen meats, wine, pharmaceuticals, and gold – between the UAE, South Africa and beyond.

Air New Zealand touches down in the Big Apple

September 19, 2022 –

Air New Zealand touched down at John F. Kennedy International Airport yesterday, marking the first of its non-stop flights connecting the city of sails and the city that never sleeps.

Air New Zealand

Minister of Tourism for New Zealand Hon Stuart Nash, Chair Dame Therese Walsh and Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Greg Foran were onboard the inaugural flight, along with key tourism and travel partners. This is terrific for our customers.”

The airline’s new international menu was debuted onboard NZ2, showcasing the best of New Zealand produce to the world. This features more choice in the air, so Premium customers can add the likes of seared salmon from Marlborough, free-range chicken from Waikato or bacon, and streamed green vegetables or fresh, crisp salads picked straight from orchards and fields in Gisborne, Waikato and the Manawatū.

As part of the new menu, Business Premier customers were welcomed to their dining experience with an amuse-bouche of New Zealand paua saucisson (abalone sausage) with herb cream and tomato.

Air New Zealand now serves seven destinations in North America – Chicago (from 31 October), Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver and (after much anticipation), New York City.

Air Belgium Celebrates First Flight to South Africa

Air Belgium Celebrates First Flight to South Africa

Air Belgium Celebrates First Flight to South Africa

September 15, 2022

A delighted Air Belgium celebrated its first new flights to South Africa yesterday, Wednesday 14 September 2022. The airline said: “Cheers to new flights to South Africa! Our #A330neo takes off from Brussels Airport to Johannesburg and Cape Town

Simultaneous flights to Cape Town and Johannesburg are now available from Brussels Airport every Wednesday and Sunday at 19:45 (arriving 7:15 the following day), while return flights from South Africa to Belgium are on Mondays and Thursdays.

Arriving in South Africa today (Thursday 15 Sep), this is Air Belgium’s first foray into Africa.

The airline had announced its plans in April to operate seasonal flights to South Africa starting in September 2022.

Brussels has historically been Cape Town’s second largest unserved market and the largest unserved European market based on two-way international passenger volumes.

Belgium is the Western Cape’s 7th largest European export market, with R2.61-billion worth of goods exported in 2021, up 81.5% from 2020.

“It is an exciting and important chapter for Air Belgium,” says CEO Niky Terzakis. “But we’re equally thrilled to introduce South Africans to a new airline and an alternative route – and thereby direct access to the heart of Europe.”

According to Terzakis, Air Belgium is committed to offering passengers an experience that is affordable, comfortable, hassle-free, green, and trustworthy.

“We often talk about ‘Belgitude’, and our motto is ‘Fly Belgian Class’, which is all about bringing joy back to international travel,” says Terzakis. “And while our travellers value our fun and engaging approach to travel, we also deliver what really matters: a safe, seamless journey; transparent billing (no hidden fees); and a generous luggage allowance.

What’s more is that we offer travellers an environmentally friendly travel option as the Airbus A330neo consumes on average 25% less fuel compared to previous generation aircraft. Lower fuel consumption also means less CO2 emitted into the atmosphere. Our aircraft offer what is best in comfort aboard: reduced noise level, mod-lighting, and state-of-the art inflight entertainment with WI-FI and internet connection throughout the flight.”

Fares start at R 11,569 for an all-in return ticket between Johannesburg and Brussels and passengers are allowed 30 kg baggage allowance free.

“Of course, for South Africans the real drawcard is Brussels,” says Terzakis. “Not only is it the gateway to Europe, with high-speed trains connecting the city to hubs like London, Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam in a couple of hours, but it is also a destination in its own right, with visitors delighting in its rich heritage, food, culture and Belgian spirit.”

The twice-weekly flights are good news for business travellers as Belgium is currently South Africa’s 6 th largest trading partner as well as the Western Cape’s 7 th largest European export market. As such, Belgium is ideally positioned to capture the interest of the corporate and government sectors in South Africa.

“I welcome Air Belgium’s new triangular route between Brussels, Johannesburg and Cape Town. Whether for leisure travel or business travel, this flight will undoubtedly *contribute to boosting* the country’s tourism, its economy and job creation,” says South African Tourism Chief Operations Officer, Nomasonto Ndlovu. She adds that international arrivals to South Africa are increasing steadily, and each new route and connection should be celebrated.

She said: “We are thrilled to welcome the Air Belgium team, and it’s fitting that their first flight arrives in the middle of September, which is Tourism Month in South Africa, when we celebrate, champion, and recognise the importance of our tourism industry.”

On its website, Air Belgium is promoting South Africa’s “steep coastline and majestic wildlife” offering a “variety of sceneries and experiences without changing countries! Plan your dream holiday in Cape Town or Johannesburg and enjoy the thrill of the ocean and lasting memories in the wilderness.”

The Airbus A330neo flight offers 30 seats in Business Class, 21 seats in Premium Class and 235 Economy Class seats; and includes the latest ecological, environmental and technological advantages.

In April, Western Cape Minister of Finance, David Maynier said: “Air Brussels focuses on leisure travel and shows that there is a clear uptick in demand for flights to Cape Town and the Western Cape, which is good for our economy and the creation of jobs in the Western Cape.”

September 15, 2022 – Air Canada transports live animals safely.

  • Airline awarded the Center of Excellence for Independent Validators for Live Animals Logistics (CEIV Live Animals) certificate
  • In 2021, Air Canada Cargo safely transported over 11,500 different animal shipments across its network

MONTREAL, Sept. 14, 2022 /CNW Telbec/ – Air Canada has become the first airline to be re-certified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for the safe transport of live animals by Air Canada Cargo. IATA awarded Air Canada Cargo with the Center of Excellence for Independent Validators for Live Animals Logistics (CEIV Live Animals) recertification following successful completion of the verification process.

Air Canada transports live animals safely

“We are very proud to be recognized for our work in operating to the highest global standards for the worldwide transport of all live animals, and being the first airline to be re-certificated continues to position Air Canada Cargo as an industry leader.

Every year, we expertly and safely handle thousands of complex shipments, from rescued dogs, endangered animals transported in conservation efforts,  and of course family pets. Air Canada Cargo’s dedicated employees handling animals are specially-trained, and I thank them for their diligence in treating all animals as precious cargo while in our care,” said Jason Berry, Vice President, Cargo at Air Canada.

Air Canada transports live animals safely: Air Canada was the first airline to receive the CEIV Live Animals certification in 2018, a standardized global certification program to improve and reinforce the safety and welfare of animals travelling by air.

As part of the recertification process, a thorough audit was conducted by IATA’s specialists, who reviewed Air Canada Cargo’s live animal transport policies and procedures. Compliance with the IATA Live Animal Regulations (LAR) was fully reviewed as was compliance with protocols like the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Etihad launches flights between Abu Dhabi and Guangzhou

September 13, 2022 –

Etihad Airways is set to start flying to Guangzhou next month, becoming the first international airline to operate long-haul passenger services to the top three Chinese gateways since the start of the pandemic.

flights between Abu Dhabi and Guangzhou

Subject to regulatory approvals, the twice-weekly passenger service to Guangzhou will start on 10 October, initially using a two-class Boeing 777.

The new route means Etihad will be offering guests convenient access to three Chinese gateways as Guangzhou is added to existing services to Shanghai which resumed in July 2020 and Beijing, which resumed in June 2022.

Martin Drew, Etihad’s Senior Vice President Global Sales and Cargo, said: “We are proud to offer our guests a third destination in China as Etihad Airways begins flights to the pivotal and historic port city of Guangzhou. As well as being a modern and rapidly growing city itself, Guangzhou has excellent connections with the Greater Bay Area.

“Our twice-weekly service will further address the huge demand for passenger travel between the UAE and China, as well as provide new cargo capacity, building on the formidable people and business ties between the two markets.”

With the addition of these new services from 10 October, Etihad will offer four weekly flights between Abu Dhabi and China: two services per week to Guangzhou and weekly services to Beijing and Shanghai.

Those wishing to book are advised to visit Etihad.com, and to remain informed on the relevant entry regulations at their end destination.

Flights are also available for booking through the Etihad mobile app, by calling the Etihad Airways Contact Centre on +971 600 555 666 (UAE) or +86 400 8822 050 (Mainland China), or through local or online travel agencies.

Ryanair Lapland

Ryanair closure Athens base : reduced flights for 2022-2023 winter season

Ryanair closure Athens base

Ryanair closure Athens base

September 8, 2022 – Ryanair closure Athens base: reduced flights for 2022-2023 winter season

Irish budget airline carrier Ryanair has announced its decision to close its base in Athens for the 2022-2023 winter season. According to a statement released by the company, it will no longer base two aircraft at the “Eleftherios Venizelos” Athens International Airport from October 29 to the end of March, reducing its flights from the scheduled 29 to 10.

Ryanair had four bases in 2019, that were reduced to two last year.

“We are disappointed to announce the closure of our Athens base at the end of October 2022 for the winter season, but the Greek government have inexplicably failed to respond to Ryanair’s ambitious growth plans for a severely needed tourism recovery scheme>

Ryanair closure Athens base

The airline wants Greece to lower its uncompetitive airport charges and assist traffic recovery post-pandemic,” said Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson, adding that “Athens Airport is a prime example of how the Greek government and German high-cost ownership is failing to deliver for Greece’s people and economy.”

New airline in Saudi Arabia?

New airline in Saudi Arabia

New airline in Saudi Arabia

September 6, 2022 – New airline in Saudi Arabia

Saudia Arabia has reportedly built a ‘war chest’ of more than $30 billion to create a new international airline that would specifically try to take on Emirates and other Persian Gulf airlines like Qatar Airways.

The new airline has been rumoured since June 2021, but over the last 12 months plans for the carrier have been fleshed out behind closed doors, and a potential name has even been decided according to sources cited by Arabian Business.

New airline in Saudi Arabia

Bankrolled by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the new airline is tipped to be called ‘RIA’, although any final decision will be made by Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman – the controversial architect of Saudi Arabia’s diversification into the tourism market and the country’s wider liberalisation.

Saudia Arabia already has an international flag carrier called Saudia which is based in Jeddah, but the airline is likely to be ‘sidelined’ and reconfigured to focus solely on transporting Umrah pilgrims to and from Mecca.

Saudia will continue to be a ‘dry airline’ with special prayer areas onboard its aircraft, whereas RIA will attempt to emulate the success of Emirates with alcohol readily available and onboard social areas designed to appeal to international travellers.

RIA will be based in Riyadh which will act as the new gateway into the Kingdom’s tourism industry. A new international airport could even be built just for RIA.

New airline in Saudi Arabia: “We are talking about a brand-new airline that aims to do what Emirates did in a quarter of the timescale,” an anonymous source told Arabian Business.

“It’s unprecedented in the history of aviation. It’s also why they have yet to appoint a CEO – whoever takes this job will have to deliver the most ambitious targets you can imagine.”

There’s no timeline for when RIA might launch but Saudia Arabia ploughing $100 billion to build its tourism industry and the Kingdom hopes to have 30 million transit passengers passing through the country by 2030.

New airline in Saudi Arabia: At present, Saudia and low-cost airlines based in the Kingdom are only handling around four million transit passengers a year.
