What is Bleisure Travel?

Bleisure Travel

Bleisure travel is one of the emerging concepts in the travel industry, and its growth has meant a greater focus is now being placed on the needs of the corporate traveller who wants to enjoy some leisure time during their trip.

Bleisure travel is a term used to describe travel which combines elements of both business and leisure. It typically takes the form of business travellers extending the duration of their trip, in order to enjoy leisure activities, which may range from sightseeing and relaxation, through to hiking, visiting entertainment venues, or attending events.

A trip comprised of both business and leisure components may also be known as a ‘bizcation’ and travel of this kind has possible advantages for business travellers, their employers, and those in the travel industry.

For the traveller, the primary advantages are likely to be a boost in morale and a reduction in stress. Allowing bleisure travel may help a business by increasing the number of employees who are actually willing to go away on business trips, while the subsequent morale boost can result in improvements to productivity. Finally, for the travel industry, the rise of the bleisure tourist means visitors who are willing to stay longer and spend more money in the process.

Bleisure Travel is a Growing Market

It is important to understand that spending on business travel is growing year-on-year. In fact, according to information published by Statista, since 2015, business travel spending has grown by between six and seven percent each year. Given the opportunities to attract repeat business, this has made business travellers a top focus for the travel industry.

Moreover, according to Expedia, 43 percent of business trips now include a leisure component. These figures highlight the growth of business travel as a whole and the fact that leisure is becoming a key part of modern business trips.

The Bleisure Traveller Explained

The rise of bleisure travel has understandably led to those in the travel industry placing a focus on who the average bleisure tourist actually is. By better understanding who participates in bleisure travel, hotels, travel agencies, restaurants and others in the industry can target them more effectively with their offerings and promotional content.

A joint Expedia Group and Luth Research study provides one of the most extensive insights into the modern bleisure traveller to date. It found that bleisure travellers tend to make frequent business trips, with the vast majority (70 percent) travelling on behalf of their business at least once every three months.

The same research found that bleisure travellers work in a wide range of different industries, but the most common were travellers working in areas like technology, healthcare, public administration and manufacturing.

Meanwhile, SAP Concur research found that Millennials were the generation most likely to engage in bleisure travel, accounting for 38 percent of all such travellers. Nevertheless, Generation Xers and Baby Boomers also accounted for 31 percent of bizcations each, indicating a need for travel companies to appeal to all of these age groups.

According to a CWT Solutions Group survey, women take fewer business trips than men in total. Yet, despite this, in both gender groups, 20 percent of business travellers asked said they take one or more bleisure trips per year. As a result of this, the study found that women have a slightly higher overall bleisure rate than men.

It is also interesting to note that many bleisure travellers feel reluctant to share the leisure experiences they enjoy during business trips. The National Car Rental State of Business Travel Survey found that 45 percent of Millennials, 40 percent of Gen Xers and 30 percent of Baby Boomers felt a need to downplay personal activities.

Why is Bleisure Travel Popular Among Business Travellers?

For business travellers, the idea of bleisure trips hold strong appeal for a number of key reasons. On a basic level, the combination of work and fun or personal activities helps to create a far better work/life balance. This tends to result in greater happiness, lower levels of stress and more of a sense that business trips are worthwhile.

In many cases, bleisure travel represents an ideal opportunity to save on the travel costs associated with a trip abroad. Crucially, this allows people who may otherwise be unable to enjoy a personal holiday to do so. They will also have more money to spend on leisure, because travel and accommodation costs are at least partially covered by their employer.

Many business travellers return to the same location repeatedly, or at least more than once. With this in mind, bleisure trips offer an opportunity for travellers to get to know the location and its culture better. This, in turn, can help to improve the quality of work done, while allowing more meaningful business relationships to be formed.

Finally, bleisure offers the possibility of business travel with a companion, such as a friend, partner or colleague. This can help to alleviate boredom, prevent feelings of isolation and assist with overall enjoyment of the trip.

Brisbane selected to host 2032 Olympic Games

Brisbane has been formally awarded hosting rights for the 2032 Olympic Games following a vote of International Olympic Committee (IOC) member nations in Tokyo.

The decision means the event will return to Australia for a third time.

With the Australian city the only bid city still in the running, the decision was a foregone conclusion.

The 2032 Olympic Games will follow Melbourne in 1956 and Sydney in 2000.

The estimated to cost sits at around US$5 billion.

The majority of this is expected to be recouped through ticket revenue, domestic sponsorship and broadcast rights.

“My government is proud to be supporting this opportunity for Brisbane and southeast Queensland,” prime minister Scott Morrison said.

“The Australian and Queensland governments are fully funding the infrastructure projects to be delivered in preparation for the games, ensuring that they deliver for Brisbane 2032, but also leave a lasting legacy.”

Brisbane will also host the Paralympics; the second time Australia has done so – the first Paralympic Games were held in Rome in 1960.

The 2024 Olympics are set for Paris, while the 2028 event will take place in Los Angeles.

IOC president, Thomas Bach, said: “We encourage Olympic Games projects which are sustainable and economically responsible, which deliver the best possible games experience for athletes and fans, and which leave solid legacies for local communities.

“The Brisbane 2032 vision and games plan fit into long-term regional and national strategies for social and economic development in Queensland and Australia.

“Today’s vote is a vote of trust that Brisbane and Queensland will stage magnificent Olympic and Paralympic Games 2032. We have heard a lot of positive feedback from IOC members.”

Africa Travel Week 2022 will go ahead in Cape Town from April 11 to 13, bringing together Pan-African and international exhibitors as well as buyers from across the globe at the headline shows, World Travel Market Africa (WTM Africa) and International Luxury Travel Market Africa (ILTM Africa).

The three-day live event – being planned to include in-person and virtual events – will include all the highlights delegates have come to expect from previous events, including a robust speaker programme and associated events like International Business Market Africa, EQUAL Africa, Travel Forward, Sports and Events Tourism Exchange (SETE) and the Africa Tourism Investment Summit (ATIS).

blankEQUAL Africa will bring together travel suppliers and buyers as well as lifestyle brands targeting the LGBTQ+ community. For the meetings, incentives, conferences and events industry, there’s IBTM Africa and stakeholders working in the sports, events and tourism industries won’t want to miss SETE.

Lastly, Travel Forward is the leading travel technology show where travel executives and innovative solution providers gain access to cutting-edge insights, open debate and unrivalled networking opportunities.

Tourism investments across the continent will also be in the spotlight at the Africa Tourism Investment Summit, which WTM Africa will be co-hosting with the International Tourism and Investment Summit (ITIC).

“Our 2021 event was a resounding success, virtually bringing together investors and development projects to unlock a diversity of investment and business opportunities in tourism and travel destinations around the world that can be aligned with the UN 2030 Agenda – Sustainable Development Goals,” said Megan Oberholzer, Reed Exhibitions Africa portfolio director travel, tourism & creative industries.

For the 2022 event, Africa Travel Week will renew its partnerships with organisations like the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association, the Africa Tourism Association and Africa Travel and Tourism Association to ensure that the themes addressed at the event will reflect those pressing issues for tourism stakeholders seeking to reignite tourism to the continent.

“Our partnership with the City of Cape Town is particularly noteworthy. We are privileged to be able to host a world-class event in a world-class city and can’t wait to welcome back all delegates to experience the best of Cape Town,” said Megan.

Executive Mayor Dan Plato, said the South African vaccination programme was gaining momentum, bringing the city a step closer to hosting large-scale events.

“We are pleased that Africa Travel Week 2022 will be part of those events. The City of Cape Town has worked with the tourism industry and other government counterparts to put together health and safety protocols to ensure we can safely welcome international visitors to our shores.

“Africa Travel Week is the perfect platform for us to showcase, to the international market, how our tourism sector has adapted to the times and improved on our already world-class offerings,” said Dan.

ATW buyers have indicated their commitment to and excitement about attending a live event in April 2022. “We saw the pent-up demand from buyers with our virtual event in 2021, which saw over 5 000 successful 1-on-1 meetings held, 4 300 minutes of speed networking and 4 000 views of content sessions. Bringing the live and virtual together for 2022, we’re expecting even greater engagement, so watch this space,” concluded Megan.

California is open to tourists and large events can take place again

With one of the nation’s highest vaccination rates and lowest case rates, California is open to welcome visitors.

Large events (over 10,000 people outdoors or 5,000 indoors), including theme parks and large sporting events, may have some restrictions. Attendees should check guidelines with event operators when buying tickets or making reservations.

Masks are required for everyone in indoor public settings in some counties, including Los Angeles, and recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control for indoor public settings in most of the state.

For more guidance, here is a collection of California’s local and regional tourism offices.

Los Angeles Hosts Largest Travel Industry Event Since Pandemic Began

Travel news from around the world

Travel is back and that includes meetings and conventions.

Approximately 1,800 attendees will be on hand during the Americas Lodging Investment Summit, one of the largest gatherings of leaders in the travel and tourism space since the beginning of the pandemic.

The 20th annual event, which was delayed for a year, is taking place in Los Angeles at the JW Marriott L.A. Live and the Microsoft Theater. The conference is produced by the BHN Group, a division of Northstar Travel Group, brings together hospitality industry professionals and is sponsored by top hospitality companies including Accor, Aimbridge Hospitality, Ashford, Best Western Hotels & Resorts, CBRE, Choice Hotels, G6 Hospitality, Hilton, Hodges Ward Elliott, Hyatt, IHG Hotels and Resorts, JLL, Margaritaville Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, Park Hotels & Resorts, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts and Sonesta + RHL Corp.

The event was preceded by its sister conference, the ALIS Law conference, which was held July 25-26 at the Courtyard and Residence Inn Los Angeles L.A. Live.

“The speakers, sponsors and delegates at ALIS and ALIS Law are industry leaders; they have sent us a clear message that they want to lead by example as the entire travel industry steps into recovery mode. They, along with all of us at Northstar Travel Group, want to demonstrate that conducting large-scale events in a safe and efficient manner can be productive for business while also helping to stimulate the economy by creating employment generators in communities across the U.S. and around the world. It will be an ongoing big task for the entire travel-and-tourism industry to recover from the hard hits it took during the pandemic-and there will be twists and turns along the way—such as Los Angeles County’s indoor mask mandate we are navigating at ALIS and ALIS Law. We’re grateful that the hotel investment community is taking this task to heart and are demonstrating the lead-by-example approach that’s needed to get things rolling again.”

Massive investment for Kanyemba

Kenya has developed a comprehensive strategy to promote the untapped incentive tourism niche and hasten the sector’s revival after a slump occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic, officials said.

Muriuki Mureithi, a senior officer at Kenya National Convention Bureau (KNCB), said the government will tap into local and overseas incentive travelers to boost tourism sector recovery, create jobs and generate revenue to the exchequer.

“We have positioned the country as a safe destination for incentive travel and are confident of its potential to revive the tourism sector that is gradually emerging from pandemic downturn,” said Mureithi in the coastal city of Mombasa during the arrival of a chartered flight from Romania carrying 53 incentive travelers who are slated to visit different scenic attractions in Kenya.

Mureithi said the Romanian tourists who are on a week-long vacation in Kenya will help promote the country as a safe destination after easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

He said Kenya has developed a conducive environment to spur growth of incentive tourism and compete favorably with established markets in Africa including Morocco, Seychelles. And the government will leverage meetings, incentive travel, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) to boost recovery of the tourism sector that contributes about 10 percent to the country’s gross domestic product.

Anghel Cristian-Daniel, general manager of Map Travel that facilitated the arrival of 53 incentive travelers from Romania, said that Kenya remains an attractive destination for overseas tourists amid favorable weather and security.

He said there will be weekly chartered flights from Romania to Kenya with easing of travel restrictions combined with enhanced COVID-19 containment measures.

Jeff Mukolwe, general manager of Swahili Beach Hotel, said the ongoing vaccine rollout in the country has injected confidence in foreign tourists keen to sample beach destinations.

He said the 53 Romanian tourists were the first batch of incentive travelers to visit Kenya since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020, adding that the country’s declining COVID-19 caseload was having a positive outcome on the tourism sector.

Colombia:

The management of the FIEXPO Latin America meetings industry show, in conjunction with the Colombian authorities, has announced a decision to move the event from June to new dates straight after the planned International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Congress in Cartagena in October 2021.

FIEXPO will now run 27-30 October, 2021, following the ICCA Congress (24-27 October), at Las Americas Convention Centre in the Colombian coastal city.

Cartagena will, for one week, host two of the industry’s most important global events.

“We have taken this decision prioritising the health and safety of all participants and taking into account the start of vaccination worldwide in the coming months, which will undoubtedly mean a new stage in the reactivation of activities in the sector,” a statement from the FIEXPO organisers said.

FIEXPO Latin America has built a leading MICE industry event in Latin America and the Caribbean for business meetings, high level educational sessions, and exceptional social events.

“The Politicians Forum convenes the highest authorities of Latin America tourism,” the organisers added, saying it represented a unique and fundamental opportunity to discuss and debate policies and actions across the public and private sectors.

“We are eager to meet again with our exhibitors, buyers, and colleagues, who trust in FIEXPO year after year and who are the ones who represent and make our industry great,” the statement continued.

“For this reason, during the coming months, the FIEXPO team will be working with commitment to prepare a special edition to receive them in October 2021 in Cartagena.”

Spain:

Hosted Buyer registration is now open for IBTM World, which will be held for the first time in a hybrid format.

The IBTM World in-person event will take place at Fira, Barcelona from 30 November to 2 December 2021 for the first time since 2019. The show will be followed by IBTM World Virtual, from 7 – 9 December 2021.

This year’s theme of ‘New Business, New Tech, New World’, reflects IBTM’s aim to enable meetings and events professionals to re-build and re-connect post-pandemic.

IBTM World will include bespoke one-to-one business meetings between the world’s leading buyers and suppliers, exciting networking opportunities and specially curated educational content to provide attendees with the tools they need to thrive in the next chapter in meetings and events.

The tailored Knowledge Programme will feature inspirational speakers from the meetings and events industry and beyond, exploring topics such as safety, sustainability, diversity and upskilling. There will be a separate buyer-led association and elite corporate programme and more details on this will be announced in due course.

David Thompson, Event Director, said: “IBTM World is a major event in our industry’s calendar, and one that unites us under one roof for three-days of networking, learning and valuable business opportunities.

“After eighteen long months without an event of this stature, we invite you to take advantage of this opportunity to make genuine connections and get the knowledge and tools to thrive in 2022 and beyond. This year’s show will offer the best of both worlds, hosting physical and virtual shows to support the meetings and events industry.”

RX (the organisers of IBTM World) has worked with industry peers to create a safe working standard called “All Secure” for holding events in a COVID-impacted world, and IBTM is working closely with the local authorities and the Fira Barcelona to implement all necessary precautions.

Amazing Travel Fact Dubai

blank

Dubai:

Did you know that there is no such thing as a 7-star rating for a hotel? But in 1999, a journalist gave 7 stars to a hotel during its opening. It is one the tallest hotels in the world and built on a man-made island. Amazing, right?

Do you know where we need to travel to in order to stay in this hotel (and probably best to have some money with you if you do)?

It is indeed Dubai.

Officially, there is no such thing as a 7-star rating. The term 7-star was created by a journalist who attended the opening of the Burj Al Arab in Dubai and felt the standard five stars didn’t do its decadence justice. …

It’s one of the tallest hotels in the world and the reason why the term “7-star hotel” started. The impressiveness of this hotel starts just from its exterior, as it stands on a man-made island.

For those who have money to throw away on one luxurious night, the Royal Suite will not disappoint, yet it costs $20,000 per night with some sources claiming it costs an upwards of $27,000 per night. As the most expensive suite at Burj Al Arab, the Royal Suite features a butler service, cinema room, Rolls Royce chauffeur and a discreet check-in. Expect nothing less than 7-star service at this 7-star hotel.

Where in the World Singapore

Where in the World?

travel fact montenegro

Where is this amazing underground hotel room?

The Ocean Villas are a series of 11 uber-exclusive duplex underwater suites located next to the Equarius and Espa Hotel complex at Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore.

The upper level consists of an open living area leading onto an outdoor patio and Jacuzzi. Guests will be treated to five-star comfort and personalised butler service.

While that sounds luxurious enough, the lower level is where the real magic begins! Location downstairs is the bedroom which has an in-room bathtub and an underwater view of over 40,000 marine fishes.
Discreetly tucked away on one side of the world’s largest aquarium, you can enjoy your own personal aquarium experience in the comfort and privacy of your own suite!

The room lights will automatically be dimmed when the viewing panel is raised, just like in the theatre when the movie is about to begin.

The ultimate hotel for your next group to Singapore!
