Berlin:

The World’s Leading Travel Trade Show releases details of a hybrid concept and for taking part in the live event from 9 to 13 March 2022 in Berlin

Demand is high for the annual business highlight of the international travel industry. In March 2022 ITB Berlin – The World’s Leading Travel Trade Show® – is planning an in-person edition of the event whose success story spans more than 50 years – to which virtual elements will be added. As part of a three-phase trade show concept, the run-up will consist mainly of matchmaking and appointments. During the actual event ITB Berlin will provide a platform for business, networking, content and dialogue, and with its physical and hybrid trade show stands will create a setting for successful participation in the event. After ITB Berlin, over a period of one to two days the virtual Business Days will round off the concept with virtual appointments and livestreams.

As early as February 2022, access will be available to a virtual trade show platform where exhibitors, trade visitors and the media can make advance contact and find relevant content. The focus of the World’s Leading Travel Trade Show will be on Saxony, the Official Partner Destination, which at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, 8 March 2022 on the eve of the event will open ITB Berlin with a festive gala at the CityCube Berlin, which will also be livestreamed. On Wednesday, 9 March, the Berlin Exhibition Grounds will open their doors to exhibitors, trade visitors and the media, observing the latest hygiene rules and a safety concept which ITB Berlin will coordinate with the local authorities and will previously test. On Saturday, 12 and Sunday, 13 March anyone from the Berlin/Brandenburg region with a lust for travel is also invited to the display halls where they can get ideas and inspiration for their next holidays.

Remote trade show stands and the Digital ITB Business Days supplement the hybrid trade show experience

Anyone wishing to attend ITB but unable to be in Berlin due to travel restrictions can join ITB Berlin live during the event by booking one of the new remote hybrid trade show stands through our Messe Berlin subsidiary CSG. Additional information is available here: www.mb-capital-services.de/en/Alternatively, in the week after ITB Berlin the virtual ITB platform will host one to two special Digital ITB Business Days, enabling exhibitors and buyers to meet at a technically user-friendly virtual trade show, where they can meet the appointments they were unable to at the live event.

“With ITB Berlin NOW we were able to offer the industry a sophisticated alternative format during the interim in spring 2021“, said David Ruetz, head of ITB Berlin. “However, it also became clear to us all that, as we know, nothing can compare with a face-to-face meeting. It therefore gives us all the more pleasure to physically welcome the global travel industry back to Berlin in 2022. Our expanded virtual formats featuring livestreaming and the Digital Business Days will take the show to a new level by combining the best elements of the physical and virtual world.”

Early Bird rates for exhibitors until 15 September 2021

ITB Berlin will announce ticket prices for trade visitors and the public during the autumn. Exhibiting companies can take advantage of a one-time Early Bird Recovery Rate equal to ten per cent on the stand rental fee. This is valid from the official opening of stand applications (probably early August) to 15 September 2021 and applies to the standard (basic) price for a row stand equal to EUR 205 plus VAT.

From 16 September until the registration deadline, all exhibiting companies who had previously officially registered for ITB Berlin 2020 and 2021 will receive a so-called Loyalty Rate, which at EUR 201 is equal to the standard (basic) 2020 price for a row stand. The price of a Communication Package per exhibitor and co-exhibitor is EUR 109 plus VAT and comprises an entry in the exhibitor directory of ITB Berlin 2022 and optional participation in the Digital Business Days. The cancellation deadline is very fair, allowing exhibitors to withdraw their stand registrations by 30 November 2021 free of charge. Full details are also available at www.itb.com.

Cyprus to create Christmas Village with huge market

blank

Travel news from around the world

blank

Cyprus:

This winter, for the first time ever, Cyprus is going to create a Christmas Village, Deputy Minister for Tourism Savvas Perdios told the Cyprus Mail in an interview on Monday.

“The village of Agros, in the Pitsilia region of the Troödos Mountains will be completely converted into a a Christmas Village and Christmas Market, along the lines of what people find in destinations like Vienna, Budapest etc.

The village will open in the last week of November 2021 and close in the first week of January, so it will be available for a period of six to seven weeks.

Nothing like this has ever happened in Cyprus before. It’s the first time that we’re doing it. And we will be promoting it as part of our strong promotion of winter tourism here,” the minister explained.

‘Heartland of Legends route to open in September’

In September, the ministry will also launch the “Heartland of Legends,” also intended to promote rural tourism.

“This will be a route of almost 500 kilometres for authentic experiences which passes through the mountains in rural areas of Cyprus.

It’s a route where tourists will be able to go and meet with local families, local artisans, see how they make local crafts or local delicacies.”

This type of tourism has become increasingly popular, particularly among affluent travellers, experts say, as it provides an in-depth understanding of to experience authentic local lifestyles, customs and culture.

“I think this is something that is completely new, especially for the Mediterranean region. We’ve been working on it for 18 months. And finally we are ready now in September to launch it. And there will be something for everyone in every one of the villages along that route. We expect it to grow organically, with more and more villages and more and more and more businesses being added to to it.”

Promoting winter tourism will be a priority for the ministry, Perdios said.

“I want to point to our international roadshow. As a ministry, we will be visiting several countries for a period of six months, starting in September, and the whole point is to create awareness about Cyprus the destination, not only for summer 22, but also for this upcoming autumn, winter and spring,” he said.

Which markets are likely to take to winter tourism in Cyprus?

“It’s the nations that do travel during the winter,” Perdios says.

“Germany is one, and, in fact, northern Europe in general is a good market for winter travel. Eastern Europe too, to some extent. France is very promising, as are Switzerland and Austria, certainly the Nordics. We will also be looking at Italy, Netherlands and Belgium.

The UAE is promising as well, and I think there is a lot of potential there along with the other Gulf countries. We’ll also be looking at Saudi Arabia. Israel is clearly a market as well.”

Subsidies for airlines are increasing arrivals

When people have been vaccinated, it doesn’t really matter whether a country has high case load or not. The important thing is that being vaccinated, they will not face restrictions going back to their country, and they will not face restrictions to their destination or their destination. So this creates analytical stability, which is very important for travel.

And also I remind you that since the first of March for the EU, and first of April for third countries, Cyprus is allowing travellers from 70 countries to enter without quarantine if they have been vaccinated.”

“Yes, the incentive scheme has, been extended until the end of the year by the EU,” Perdios says. “And it’s going very well. I mean, we try to help out in any way we can. It’s obvious that airlines still need the support. I think that if it weren’t for this support, a lot of airlines would probably choose not to fly because they are flying with low lower load factors — number of people on planes — than they have been used to. So I think in this transitional phase for travel, it has been very important that for the past 18 months, we have been helping out in this way.

Vilnius And Why This Old Lithuanian City Shouldn’t Be Missed

blank

Travel news from around the world

blank

Lithuanian:

Vilnius is the capital and largest city of Lithuania and it offers a rich experience for those looking to explore the east and Baltics region of Europe. Vilnius is only a small city with a population of around 600,000 but it is the cultural centre and capital of this small country. Vilnius’s Old Town is a UNESCO-listed site. One of the fun things one can do is travel through all three Baltic countries (Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia). If you are feeling adventurous then consider taking the ferry from Tallinn, Estonia (another overlooked country) to Helsinki, Finland.

Vilnius was historically part of the Russian empire and as it collapsed in World War One, Vilnius became a contested city between Poland and Lithuania. In the Interwar Period, it was part of Poland. After World War Two it became a part of Lithuania. Additionally, before WW2, Vilnius was one of the main Jewish centers of Europe. The history and architecture are accordingly mixed here.

Lithuanian Song Festival
Part of what triggered the demise of the Soviet Union was the Singing Revolution in the Baltic States. This is where the Baltics peacefully protested Soviet rule by holding hands and singing in defiance of Moscow. Today the Lithuanian Song Festival has become one of the most important events marking their independence. Perhaps something like the 4th Of July in America. There can be as many as 40,000 participants in these singing festivals. They are held once every 4 years, the next one is scheduled for 2022.

Number Of Singers: Approx. 20,000
Number of Dancers: Approx. 9,000
Next Festival: Summer 2022

Trakai Island Castle
For a great day trip from Vilnius consider visiting the Trakai Island Castle. This magnificent island castle was built around 1409 and only a short drive from Vilnius. This Castle complex is a must-see if you are visiting Vilnius and looks like something straight out of a Disney cartoon. It has been fully rebuilt and lies on an island surrounded by a lake. The whole lake is a stunning park.

The Castle is connected to the mainland by a wooden bridge and is considered one of the national treasures of Lithuania. This is a museum with full exhibitions and so is perfect for learning about Lithuanian history.

In Vilnius, it is best to relax and explore the city while feeling its vibe. If you would like nightlife there’s plenty of that here. Vilnius is a city famous for its artistic flair and one should really see and explore the treasures in this city. Be sure to frequent the many restaurants on the streets in the old city (like other cities in Europe, dining and drinking beer is popular outside).

Gediminas Castle Tower
One of the main landmarks in Vilnius is the Gediminas Castle Tower. This is the remaining part of the Upper Castle in the city and it is considered one of the parts of Lithuania. From here you can have fantastic views of Vilnius and the characteristic red roofs of its Medieval Old Town.

The first castle here was built in the 13th-14th centuries to guard the city, but the original wooden castle burnt down in the 15th century during a fire that ravished the city. The three brick towers and a Gothic palace were rebuilt in its place. The castle is easily reached either by car or by a leisurely stroll up the gentle hill it’s built on.

Fun Fact: Out Side Of The Old Town Is Dominated By Soviet Architecture

Film: Vilnius Was The Site Of Filming HBO’s Cherynobol Miniseries

St. Anne’s Church
One of the more impressive buildings of Vilnius (and included in UNESCO’s list of buildings), is St. Anne’s Church. This is one of the most impressive examples of Gothic architecture in Vilnius and is one of the must-see cathedrals of Europe.

This awe-inspiring church was completed more than 500 years ago back in 1500. According to legend, when Napoleon saw this church during his invasion of Russia, he wanted to carry it back with him to Paris in the palm of his hand.

Cathedral Square
The old city of Vilnius is small and is best discovered by just walking around and seeing visiting the many interesting buildings. One of the more interesting places not to miss out on is the Cathedral Square in the centre of the Old Town. This is the site of many of the national events and festivals like parades, large concerts, New Year’s celebrations, and the like. There is the neo-classical Vilnius Cathedral and its free-standing bell tower. One can consider this the heart of the nation.

In short, there are many things to see and do in Vilnius, and these are just a few of them. The Old City is well worth visiting for a couple of days.

The Miss Universe competition is heading to Israel this year.

Organizers announced Tuesday that the 70th annual competition will be held in Eilat, Israel, in December 2021.

Steve Harvey will return to host the event, which will air live on Fox and Telemundo.

Miss Universe Organization president Paula M. Shugart issued a statement in a press release.

“Israel has been on our shortlist of host countries for a number of years due its rich history, beautiful landscapes, myriad of cultures and appeal as a global tourist destination,” Shugart said.

“We look forward to deepening our commitment and creating meaningful cultural conversation, connection and understanding through this partnership,” she added.

The three-hour event will see contestants compete in multiple categories, including personal statement, swimsuit, evening gown and interview. The competition will culminate with Mexico’s Andrea Meza, who won the 2020 competition, crowning her successor.

“Being the only Miss Universe crowned during the COVID-19 pandemic has made my reign unforgettable,” Meza said. “I hope that the world takes the vaccine as soon as it is available so that, come December, as many people as possible can join the 70th anniversary celebration in Israel.”

Ahead of the competition, contestants will explore “the rich history and culture” of Israel with visits to notable locations. In addition, Meza will visit Israel later this summer.

Abu Dhabi:

Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) has launched Tourism 365, a new company designed to create experiential travel opportunities for tourists coming to the emirate.

It will seek to enhance the regional and global positioning of Abu Dhabi in the wider tourism sector.

The launch of the company is in line with a broader role for ADNEC to support the growth of Abu Dhabi as a tourism destination, increasing leisure visitors, enhancing guest experiences, and extending their stay in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

Tourism 365 will work in concert with key stakeholders across the tourism sector in the emirate and the UAE.

Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, managing director and group chief executive of Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company, commented: “In launching Tourism 365, ADNEC continues to fulfil its strategy in developing Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector.

“Through strengthening and enhancing our business portfolio in tourism, and expanding to include leisure tourism, we actively amplify the economic impact of ADNEC Group.

South Korea:

Seoul sets sights on CES-style show

Korean capital’s convention bureau offers organisers strategy based on hybrid events and business coming back this year. Seoul wants expo organisers to emulate Vegas electronics show

SEOUL Convention Bureau has set its sights on creating a “global standard” with a recovery strategy based on hybrid-event formats and a goal or creating an event to match the famous Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The strategy involving safety measures ethnology and subsidies for organisers is linked to the bureau’s Reassuring Package and based on business resuming this year, according to Seoul Convention Bureau.

“Strategic long-term plans were introduced to transform the industry into a hybrid model, a global standard to-be in the post-Covid era,” a spokesman for the bureau said in a statement.

“Such efforts are made to better ensure the safety of both the ‘face-to-face’ and ‘screen-to-screen’ business interactions and provide the most quality environment for a supreme hybrid event.

“The cutting-edge meeting technology based on powerful ICT of the city remains a key player, along with the existing quarantine countermeasures for on-site events.”

Seoul’s strategy involves:

The Reassuring Package
Designed to build an effective safeguard for MICE participants when “business resumes within the year”, vital services to ensure a safe stay for delegates under the package include emergency medical insurance, translation services, concierge services for hotels and transport reservations.

Virtual Seoul platform
Financial support is available for hybrid event organisers. The Virtual Seoul platform not only offers 3D graphics offered at no extra charge, but up 10 million won (about US$8,880) for operating expenses.

Easier bidding process
Application requirements have been eased so event planners can receive the appropriate support when hosting an international conference. Customised support at the bidding phase include thorough consultation, official supporting letters, presentation tips and a maximum of 200 million won during the hosting phase.

Zero-contact events
Exhibitions and fairs will speed up the use of hybrid and zero-contact means under plans to develop an international exhibition comparable to the annual CES in Las Vegas.

A total of 34 exhibition organisers have been selected for each stage and provided with support of up to KRW 80 million. Consulting services in international marketing and IT technology are helping organisers respond to the increasing demand for hybrid events.

Korea Exhibition Organisers Association
An online platform is being developed in cooperation with the Korea Exhibition Organisers Association to relieve some of the burden that comes with creating online platforms.

China:

EXCITEMENT among soccer fans as the European Championships kicked off was harnessed by Pico as the brand activation agency blended artistic elegance and football fandom to launch the new Volvo XC60 in Shanghai.

Volvo, a brand with its origins in Sweden, saw the potential of connecting the launch with the Euros and Pico integrated a “football carnival” into the event at the Ansa International Convention Centre in Shanghai.

The event was held in a venue of nearly 15,000 square metres with Pico responsible for turnkey event management and on-site operations for the June 11 launch.

Highlights
The immersive nature of the event began even before the launch conference, with guests invited to a “mingle area” to enjoy interactive experiences designed to stimulate different combination of the senses while building anticipation for the new XC60.

A popular activity was the 360-degree panoramic photo experience – a hit among guests who wanted to capture the moment, and everything that was happening.

Guests could explore details of the Volvo brand at a series of display areas. One display focused on the brand’s environmental protection philosophy and commitment to customer wellbeing, with a combination screen projection, scents and audio effects highlighting Volvo’s interior materials and how it strives for balanced relationship with the natural world.

Holographic
Meanwhile, the performance and impressive technologies of the new XC60 were showcased with a stunning holographic projection.

A stunning holographic projection also showed the XC60’s performance capabilities and technologies.

The experiential journey for guests culminated in the product launch conference which saw the latest XC60 unveiled with striking lighting effects on a metallic and futuristic-designed stage.

Music, including hits by singer-songwriter Jane Zhang, and dance performances add to the impact of the launch. A live band led guests outdoors to the football carnival featuring food stations, the new XC60 and a DJ who took over the audio elements and added to the Euro championship atmosphere.

Some 430 people participated in the event, including representatives from more than 260 media outlets, while 30-plus media took part in the live broadcast of the launch.
