February 2 2022 – Registration is now open for the International Hospitality Investment Forum (IHIF), as the industry-leading event returns to Berlin.

IHIF to return to Berlin in May

The show will take place on May 3-5.

With a core focus on people, planet and profit, the event returns to bring together forward-thinking investors, owners and developers from over 80 countries.

IHIF is where the most powerful leaders come together to discuss the hospitality industry’s current state, with a powerfully curated programme of keynote speakers, expert panels, roundtables and interactive sessions that will guide delegates through the constantly evolving investment landscape.

Created for the market by the market, based on delegate feedback and Advisory Board recommendations, the IHIF programme promises challenging and thought-provoking sessions with specific areas of focus for each day.

Focused on the resetting of hospitality, the day will drill down on how to operate more consciously, innovate more efficiently, and grow effectively – with a purpose.

In addition to the expected sessions on global economics and performance outlook, a trend-based session will focus on remodelling the current landscape, and an investor panel will discuss investment with a purpose.

Hospitality leaders will go head-to-head in the Talk of the Titans, and a chief executive panel discusses the leadership of the future, addressing the talent shortage and how we can make hospitality a more attractive option for recruitment.

Innovation & Technology for Hospitality – May 5

The dynamic programme focuses on the gear shift in hospitality innovation, with forums discussing adjacent spaces, hybrid concepts, lifestyle changes and more.

A panel will discuss partnership and profits, including the rise of third-party operators, stakeholder relations and how aligning for profitability can bring value to brands.

Day two also celebrates the Lifetime Achievement award and Young Leader award, before closing with a keynote speaker.

Alexi Khajavi, group president, Questex Travel and Hospitality, who host the event, said: “After such a turbulent time for the industry, we are excited to be able to bring IHIF back to Berlin for 2022.

“Our theme this year – people, planet and profit – encapsulates everything our industry is faced with, and we are looking forward to sharing our powerful programme of events, talks, discussions and networking opportunities to provide a platform for professional hoteliers to communicate and learn.”

IMEX Announces New Dates for its 2022 Frankfurt Event

IMEX Frankfurt

January 10 2022 – IMEX Announces New Dates for its 2022 Frankfurt Event

The IMEX Group has announced new dates for IMEX in Frankfurt 2022.

The change allows the team to stage the 20th anniversary of its market-leading trade show from Tuesday 31 May – Thursday 02 June, giving the global meetings, incentive travel and events industry an additional five weeks to prepare.

The increase in Omicron cases across Europe and around the world together with current regulatory uncertainty caused Chairman, Ray Bloom and CEO, Carina Bauer to review their plans, together with their host venue, city and industry partners. They have taken the opportunity to accept new dates offered by Messe Frankfurt, meaning the show could return to its more familiar timings in late spring.

As IMEX CEO Carina Bauer explains, “Everyone in our industry can see the current situation in Europe and knows that, with trade shows depending on such long lead times, it doesn’t support a show in April. We strongly believe that a late May edition of IMEX in Frankfurt will allow everyone to move ahead and plan with certainty and confidence. Having recently come off a highly successful IMEX America, we’re completely focused on building a strong return for IMEX in Frankfurt and we’re also keenly aware of how much our industry needs IMEX to bring everyone together and prove that business regeneration and good lead flow is not only viable but closer than some may think.”

IMEX in Frankfurt takes place 31 May – 2 June, with a dedicated day of tailored education on Monday 30 May for specialist groups such as corporate, association, and agency buyers.

Registration for IMEX in Frankfurt will go live in the week commencing Monday, January 17.

We are doing everything to support a travel industry hard-hit by the pandemic, and in 2022 are planning a series of additional services and events in virtual and in-person formats,” he said,

Expo 2020

Expo 2020 reaches half-way stage

Expo 2020 reaches half-way stage

January 03 2022 – Expo 2020 reaches half-way stage

From investment deals to climate goals, cross-border collaboration to multi-national festivals, the first three months of Expo 2020 Dubai have seen a plethora of link-ups between countries, organisations and artists showing that the event is truly exemplifying its theme: Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.

The opening ceremony was an event in its own right.

In early October, Uganda signed business deals worth US$650 million while in the first two weeks of Expo 2020, Malaysia generated more than US$1.7 billion in agreements.

In October, the Brazilian state of São Paulo announced US$1.1 billion of new investment deals with the UAE and San Marino and Brazil signed a memorandum of understanding on tourism.

The United Arab Emirates’ golden jubilee celebrations in early December proved to be a boon for deals.

French president, Emmanuel Macron, visited Expo 2020 on December 3rd, meeting sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi, signing a series of agreements to benefit both France and the UAE, while Maharashtra Week resulted in US$2 billion of investment deals for the Indian state.

The Programme for People and Planet is convening global stakeholders to contribute expertise, content, and best practices to encourage international cooperation on the most pressing challenges in the world.

It has already hosted five theme weeks and sparked a raft of agreements and action-led pledges.

French president, Emmanuel Macron, was among the dignitaries to visit Expo 2020 earlier this year

Nadia Verjee, chief of Programme for People and Planet at Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “It has always been Expo’s purpose to connect minds to create a brighter future – a goal based on the belief that innovative solutions and progress are the result of people and ideas coming together in inspiring new ways.

“Expo has brought together change-makers from around the world – individuals and organisations who are working together to drive positive impact. We are thrilled to see so many tangible agreements so far, and look forward to many more collaborations, deals and alliances in the next three months.”

At Climate & Biodiversity Week from October 3-9, the UAE announced its Net Zero 2050 Strategic Initiative, which will see more than US$163 billion being invested in clean and renewable energy to meet the country’s mid-century target.

Staying with this theme, on November 22nd, the governments of Jordan, Israel and the UAE signed a landmark declaration, committing to building renewable electricity and water desalination capacity in the region to address the challenges posed by climate change and water scarcity.

Witnessing the signing, John Kerry, US special presidential envoy for climate, praised the deal, describing it as “a welcome example of how cooperation can accelerate the energy transition and build greater resilience to the impacts of climate change”.

John Kerry, special US presidential envoy for climate, praised UAE efforts to get to new zero on a visit to Expo 2020

At Space Week, from October 17-23, the UAE Space Agency said it would work with strategic partners to develop programmes permitting private sector investment in space.

On October 20th, the UAE Space Agency signed a memorandum of understanding with the Israel Space Agency that could see the flags of both countries planted on the moon by 2024, and provide a framework for a mutually beneficial strategic partnership to strengthen efforts to gather and analyse scientific space data.

In addition, on October 19th, Curtin University and the UAE University revealed joint plans to develop the region’s first radio array observatory in Al Ain, through a strategic research-and-development collaboration between Australia and the UAE.

During Urban & Rural Development Week, from October 31-November 6, the UN unveiled the Last Mile Delivery Roadmap – a blueprint for an inclusive, localised approach to make informal settlements safe and sustainable.

In November, during Expo’s Tolerance & Inclusivity week, the Te Aratini, a Festival of Indigenous and Tribal Ideas was hosted, the first at a World Expo.

The three-day event saw Aotearoa New Zealand collaborate with the UAE, Australia, Canada, the United States, Malaysia, Paraguay and Panama to ignite new connections and forge partnerships to address the issues facing our world today.

Expo 2020 also saw the opening of the Joint World Summit of Religions at the Italy Pavilion, which brought together scholars, clerics and intellectuals to promote dialogue between different religions.

Millions of guests have visited Expo 2020 during its first three months

Expo’s most recent theme week – focusing on Knowledge & Learning and running from December 12-18– saw a number of education agreements.

Financing for education in 37 countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, worth half a billion dollars, was agreed at the RewirEd Summit hosted by Dubai Cares on December 14th.

Called the Smart Education Financing Initiative, the programme aims to assist 28 million children who are not in school.

Expo 2020 has also witnessed an array of artistic and cultural collaborations, from a cross-continent art exhibition between Malta and the UAE; a fashion week, organised by the Mexico Pavilion that showcased designs from around the world on runways in the pavilions of Israel, Switzerland, Thailand and the USA; and a Portuguese language festival that united performers from Portugal, Angola, Brazil, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste.

The most inclusive and diverse World Expo ever, Expo 2020 runs for six months, with more fruitful collaborations expected before the event ends on March 31st.

So far more than seven million guests have passed through the turnstiles.

Sports

At Expo 2020 Dubai, you never know who you might run into.

Sports fans in particular have been in for a treat as the mega-event reaches its half-way point, with visits so far from some of the world’s biggest stars and a brand-new sports venue, opening in January, set to welcome many more sporting giants.

Earlier this month, Argentine footballer and Expo 2020 Dubai ambassador Lionel Messi – fresh from his recent move to Paris Saint-German, and also claiming his record seventh Ballon d’Or – told us what he thought of Expo.

“Something extraordinary… each pavilion has its own thing, its own place,” he said.

“It shows you its culture, its country, it makes you see and learn from each one of them.

“It’s all very big, very impressive.”

Lionel Messi showcased his star power during a visit to Expo 2020

And from one of the best footballers in the world to the globe’s fastest man, Usain Bolt dropped in just weeks earlier to host a charity fun run.

The retired Jamaican sprinter is still the world record holder in the 100m, 200m and 4 x 100m relay, and echoed Expo’s message of using sport to bring people together.

“For me, just watching sports in general, and as a sports person, it’s massive,” he said.

“One example: in Jamaica, when the Olympics is going on, the crime goes down to zero… and when the World Cup is going on, everyone is watching.

“So I feel sport plays such a big part in helping the world come together.”

With state-of-the-art sports and fitness facilities, and coaching schools with the likes of AC Milan, Manchester City and the Rajasthan Royals, there is never a shortage of sporting names visiting the Expo site.

Usain Bolt wowed crowds during a visit to the Jamaica pavilion

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, was very impressed during his own visit: “It’s been a wonderful experience to witness the energy of grassroots football here at Expo 2020 Dubai, and to see how the club connects with people around the world.

“The enthusiasm for the game demonstrated by the next generation of aspiring players is marvellous.”

Pep Guardiola shared the secrets of his success with Manchester City fans while in Dubai

Expo has seen visits from Olympic and Paralympic athletes, Tour de France cyclists, Formula 1 drivers (and its chief executive, Stefano Domenicali), Premier League footballers, cricket legends, karate champions and the globe’s top chess players.

Talal Al Hashemi, national director of Special Olympics UAE, said: “Expo 2020 Dubai is quickly becoming a global platform to operationalise inclusion, in sports and in life, and to make sure that people of determination are empowered as we connect minds and create the future.”

Even basketball exhibition team the Harlem Globetrotters got to showcase their skills, while visitors got a glimpse of the Premier League trophy and the European Cup.

Female athletes visiting Expo help to encourage participation and interest in women’s sports – Lancashire and England women’s cricketer Kate Cross was very impressed by the site.

“I couldn’t grasp how big it was going to be, you have to see it to believe it,” she said.

“At the Emirates Pavilion, they showed me what aviation is going to look like in 50 years’ time, and how sustainability is going to be a big part of that. It’s all really exciting.”

So who else might be visiting over the remaining three months? With an even bigger sports venue opening on the Expo site in January, the question should be, which other sporting names can you think of?

A note of caution

As Covid-19 cases again begin to rise, the most significant global gathering of 2021 continues to welcome visitors safely and responsibly.

Throughout the Expo 2020 Dubai journey organisers have worked hard to balance between holding a responsible, safe, fun Expo and navigating a way through a pandemic.

Like the city and the country, Expo organisers say they have learnt how to live and operate effectively within a Covid-19 world, as long as they remain agile, factual and responsible.

Expo 2020 Dubai’s stringent Covid-19 safety measures are designed to protect everyone visiting and working on site; they include mask-wearing – indoors and outdoors – for visitors, staff and participants.

On-site PCR testing facilities enable frequent testing of Country Pavilion staff, frontline workers and entertainers.

The health, safety, and wellbeing of everyone continues to be of the highest priority and we remain committed to working with our participants to welcome visitors to a safe, fun and exceptional Expo.

Disneyland Is Bringing Back 2 Major Festivals in 2022

January 03 2022 – Disneyland Is Bringing Back 2 Major Festivals in 2022

Disneyland announced the return of two fan-favorite festivals that didn’t get to happen in 2021 as the park was still closed due to COVID-19.

The annual Lunar New Year celebration will return from Jan. 21 through Feb. 13 and the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival will follow in March.

The Lunar New Year celebration will highlight traditions from Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese cultures with “performances, special activities, culinary delights, beautiful décor, celebratory merchandise, and more,” according to a Disney Parks blog post.

As the 2022 new moon will bring in the Year of the Tiger, beloved character Tigger will be a leading reveler at the festival. And of course, at the front of “Mulan’s Lunar New Year Celebration” will be Mulan herself and Mushu as they honor family and friendship, and fortune for the coming year.

Other Disney characters like Mickey and Minnie, the Three Little Pigs, and Raya from the new Disney film “Raya and the Last Dragon” will also appear at the celebration.

During the Lunar New Year celebration, visitors will be able to visit curated marketplaces featuring Asian cuisine. Select dining locations throughout the park will also feature Lunar New Year-themed food and beverage during the festival.

For the Food & Wine Festival, a dozen different marketplaces will take over the park from March 4 through April 26.

The festival will be a mouthwatering sampling of California’s best culinary experiences from across the state’s iconic regions and neighborhoods.

On Saturdays and Sundays throughout the festival period, chefs (including some celebrities) will offer complimentary demonstrations. And visitors will be able to book additional signature experiences like wine receptions and mixology tastings. An inclusive “Sip and Savor Pass” will also be available for visitors who want to sample all the festival has to offer.

November 16 2021 –27 – ITB Berlin is the world’s largest travel trade fair

The World’s Leading Travel Trade Show

With great regret we have to inform you today, that the in-person edition of ITB Berlin 2022 will not take place as originally planned. Owing to the latest developments and accompanying directives as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Messe Berlin is unable to afford its exhibitors and partners the necessary planning certainty with the holding of an in-person ITB Berlin in early March. The current situation surrounding the pandemic, as well as the tightened travel restrictions and limits imposed on the numbers that can take part in large events made Messe Berlin take this step.

We made every effort to make it possible to hold ITB Berlin as an in-person event again in the German capital. Particularly in these times, the industry needs orientation, inspiration and dialogue. With the livestreamed convention and Digital Business Day as well as our new regional travel events during the year, we are offering the industry a wide range of fascinating content and new business opportunities in 2022.

In March 2023 ITB Berlin will be back again with an in-person event. ITB Berlin 2023 will open on 8 March and in accordance with the wishes of all market players will take place on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.

Australia Formula 1

New Concept for Australia Formula 1 GP

Australia Formula 1

December 10 2021 –

In a bid to promote local tourism, the Australian Grand Prix event will feature zones showcasing the very best of Victoria.

The Australian Grand Prix will return in 2022, marking its comeback after two COVID-19 cancelled events.

As always, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) strives to improve the event and in 2022 will see the introduction of the precincts, designed to enhance the fan experience.

Throughout the four-day event, the venue will be divided into five separate fan precincts with each showcasing a different Victorian region or tourist destination.

Unlike the Australian Open at the start of the year, crowds will be able to move between the precincts.

Each of these areas will offer unique experiences in a bid to boost economic growth across the state as it begins to move on from its latest pandemic lockdown by promoting regional tourism and investment.

The precincts are as follows, Melbourne, Phillip Island, Grampians, Yarra Valley, and the Great Ocean Road – each will celebrate Victoria through entertainment, culinary and cultural experiences, all of which will be inspired by its specific region.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation General Manager of Marketing and Experience, Arthur Gillion expressed that there is real excitement about the event returning.

He believes the precincts will further bolster the positive fan experience.

“There is an incredible sense of excitement and anticipation ahead of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix 2022,” he said.

“These new fan precincts will not only showcase our wonderful state, but they will also provide a brand-new way to experience April’s event.

“We’ve been hard at work reimagining this year’s Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix and creating new and exciting fan experiences and cannot wait to see the world’s most exciting motorsport spectacle back to Victoria.

“Don’t miss your chance to live fast – Formula 1 is back!”

The 2022 edition of the Australian Grand Prix will see the debut of the tweaked circuit layout, designed to improve overtaking and action.

Visit Victoria CEO Brendan McClements believes there is no better state on earth to watch sporting events, particularly the Australian Grand Prix, and also thinks the precincts will add to the atmosphere.

“No one hosts a sporting and major event like Victoria, and the new fan precincts are a fantastic way to showcase the best of everything our state has to offer,” he said.

“From tasting tantalising food and renowned wine to music and live performance we want Formula 1 crowds to get a taste of Victoria’s vibrant and diverse scenes and be inspired to get out there and see the real thing for themselves.”

And also, the smallest festival guests are catered for. With a colorful array of music and creative fun, the Kidzapalooza provides just the right festival environment for the little ones, too.

Due to the pandemic, Lollapalooza Berlin had to pause in 2020 and 2021 but will be back stronger and louder than ever in 2022 on the grounds of Olympiastadium and Olympiapark Berlin. Stay tuned.

Lollapalooza & music belong together, like the Spree and Berlin. That’s for sure! But the Lolla wouldn’t be the Lolla if we didn’t also pay attention to our environment and include topics such as sustainability and a respectful and tolerant approach among our values. The Grüne Kiez (green hood) offers the perfect space for this message: Here it is not only about showing projects and solutions for the creation of a better and livable society, but rather about trying out, participating and shaping! Come by and become part of the sustainable projects, ideas and innovations in the Green Neighborhood!

 IT’S CALLED FASHION(PALOOZA)

Fashion is much more than catwalks and magazines – by far the best outfits are found at festivals, where people from all over the world dress in the craziest combinations, patterns and colors. With Fashionpalooza we have created a place where you can get inspired and let your creativity run free. Look forward to exciting panels about current trends, a DIY station to create your own cool, sustainable look and rebellious fashion shows, surrounded by dazzling installations.

December 03 2021 –

Australian ‘Summer of Tennis 2022’ schedule announced, Australian Open from Jan 17

Tennis Australia announced its “Summer of Tennis” on Thursday, which would include a host of events across several states in the lead-up to the Australian Open 2022.

Ahead of the tournament, beginning officially on January 17, a total of 17 events will be held in the states of New South Wales (NSW), South Australia, and Victoria.

Among the warm-up tournaments announced was the ATP Cup, which was confirmed to be hosted by Sydney from January 1-9.

“There is no better place to kick off the season than in Australia and we look forward to seeing the fans out in force in January,” said ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi.

Other headline events include the Victorian Wheelchair open from January 8-12, and the Adelaide International women`s events beginning January 2.

Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley said the line-up was designed to create numerous competition opportunities for some of the best players in the world.

“It`s incredibly important to have the world`s best players competing across the country, inspiring the next generation of players and growing interest and excitement in our sport,” he said.

The series of events is set to be one of Australia`s largest international events since it closed its borders due to the pandemic and would be a boon for crippled local economies.

Tiley said the pandemic has created a “massive challenge” for the event: “It`s why we waited as long as possible to secure optimal conditions for the players and fans in as many locations as we could.”

The qualifying round for the Australian Open would run from January 10-14 and the main event would run from Jan 17-30.

Tennis Australia has previously announced that unvaccinated players would not be permitted to compete in the 2022 Australian Open.

FORMULA 1 SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX 2022

December 01 2021 –

SAUDI ARABIAN GRAND PRIX, JEDDAH 2022

JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA

Promoter of the event and chairman of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation, Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al Faisal, had previously made clear of his desire to have the event moved to an earlier date for 2022.

GPFans now understands this request to has been granted with tickets set to go on sale for a March date.

For the current season, only two races – Australia and Bahrain – were originally slated to take place that month.

“For us as a promoter we prefer to not be in the last races because teams can do really well in the first races and then the other races don’t become so interesting,” said Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al Faisal in a media call when tickets went on sale for this year’s race.

“We wanted to have a race at the beginning (of the season), but the time that we had to do the work and prepare the track we couldn’t have a race in 2021 in the beginning of the year.

“So the question was, do we have a race at the end of 2021 or have an early race in 2022? And our decision was we wanted a race in 2021. We are now discussing with Formula 1 what is best for us and where to have our race in 2022.”
