Nizwa , former capital of Oman, is one the oldest cities in Oman. Nizwa acquired its importance because it has been an important meeting point at the base of the Western Hajar Mountains.
Today, Nizwa is a diverse prosperous place with numerous agricultural, historical and recreational aspects. Nizwa is a center for date growing and is the market place for the area.
Your group will stop at the handicraft souq which carries an array of products from meat, fish, fruits and vegetables to spices, dates, gold and silverware. Nizwa is also recognized both for its silver jewelry which is considered to be the best in the country and the distinctive style and patterns of its Khanjar (curved dagger).
The journey continues to Nizwa fort is a powerful reminder of the town’s invincibility through turbulent periods in Oman’s long history. This beautifully restored fort features an enormous drum-like tower from which spectacular views of the surrounding markets, mosque and mountains may be enjoyed.
This is followed by a set up lunch at a palm tree farm at Birkat Al Mouz
