November 5, 2021 – Mauritius is ramping up its commercial operations, increasing frequencies to the principal tourist source markets to meet demand.  The weekly services by destination are as follows:
  1. Paris, France – daily flights as from 01 November 2021 (twice daily considering flights operated by Air France in partnership with Air Mauritius)
  2. London, United Kingdom – three weekly flights effective 12 November, increasing to five weekly frequencies during the Christmas and New Year peak season
  3. Johannesburg, South Africa – Seven weekly services as from 07 November
  4. Gillot, Reunion – three daily flights as from 01 November
  5. Antananarivo, Madagascar – twice weekly flights as from 02 November
We also plan to resume passenger operations on the basis of three weekly flights to Mumbai in November, subject to the relaxation of travel restrictions by the Indian authorities. Rodrigues will be served through three daily flights as from November, subject to the opening of borders.  We have seen encouraging loads on our existing flights, following which flights were added to meet expected demand. Certain destinations like Paris and South Africa are expected to achieve higher loads hovering around 70% on average. With the vaccination campaigns worldwide, passengers are expected to regain confidence in the safety of air travel and demand for travel is projected to recover gradually.  The outlook for the year 2022 appears brighter, though uncertainty remains about new COVID-19 waves and vaccine progress in some markets.  According to IATA, the global demand for air travel is not expected to recover to pre-COVID-19 levels before 2024.

Is Air Mauritius thinking of introducing flights to/from new destinations in the future?

Air Mauritius is actively working on new destinations to be added to its route network. Depending on the relaxation of travel restrictions internationally and demand, we plan to reestablish air services to traditional destinations including Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong in South East Asia and the Far East.  At the same time, new tourist-generating destinations are being explored. We are also leveraging on our existing partnership with partner airlines to offer a wider range of destinations and travel options to our passengers.  For example, our passengers can connect to more than 70 destinations in Europe through the Paris gateway under our partnership with Air France.
