February 24, 2022 – Berat Tour Albania

On this excursion we will do a tour of Berat Fortress and visit of the city

Known as the “City of windows” and it is declared a Museum City”. Berat is overshadowed to the east by Tomorr Mountain 2415 m, and is an ancient Illyrian settlement founded in the 4th & 5th centuries B.C. on the territory of the Illyrian tribe of Desarettes.

The town is composed of 3 parts; Gorica, situated on the far side of the river; Mangalem, situated on the fortress side of the river and the Residential quarter within the fortress known as Kalaja.

WHAT TO VISIT… THE FORTRES and AN OLD TRADITIONAL HOUSE  13:30 – 14:30 Time for lunch in local restaurant  1 hour free in the city on your own.

On return back, stop en route to visit COBO winery, located 15 km, before reaching Berat

Our local host will take us on a tour of the winery, a family business, in their efforts to reinvent the old tradition of the locals for growing wine yards and wine making. We conclude the tour with a sample of wine tasting of 2 red, one white and a special raki, mixture of grape distillation, with strong flavor of walnut. Of course we shall not miss the homemade cheeses and locally grown olives, known as the delicious Berati Olives.
