March 10, 2022 – Train and Fly Iberia – combines flights with 14 destinations in Spain
Iberia and Spain’s national railway Renfe are extending their intermodal Train & Fly to reach 14 Spanish cities.
The two companies have developed the scheme over the past six years and now are adding technical improvements as well as nine new destinations -Valencia, Alicante, Leon, Palencia, Pamplona, Salamanca, Albacete, Zamora, and Orense – to the original five – Saragossa, Seville, Malaga, Cordoba, and Valladolid. All 14 can be conveniently reached from all 90 Iberia international destinations.
Train and Fly Iberia: Intermodal Ticket
Train&Fly tickets resemble those with multiple flights and include the train journey, the local commuter train to or from Madrid-Barajas airport, and the international flight.
These combined tickets including plane and train furnish numerous travel planning options to customers, and the tickets are cheaper than buying the individual train and plane tickets separately. The scheme included the guarantee of alternative transportation in the event of a failed connection.
Renfe Customer Service Manager, Sonia Araujo, commented: “This agreement is an important step forward in our inter-modality strategy. We see Iberia as a major strategic partner, and its international air travelers can avail themselves of a fast, zero-emissions means of transport such as our HSTs. Tourists who fly to Spain with Iberia and continue their journeys in our HSTs or Long Distance trains will find it a convenient, comfortable, and rewarding experience”.
Iberia Sales Manager, María Jesús López, said the deal represents “a major step towards inter-modality in Spain because it broadens the options available to our international passengers to reach provincial Spanish cities efficiently on a combined ticket. The additional cities included in the Train&Fly scheme will also make Renfe a perfect ally in helping us feed our long-haul routes, and simultaneously increasing international tourism to numerous Spanish cities, given the millions of tourists who come to Span by air each year”.
It is expected that more than 100,000 customers will use this combined Iberia-Renfe service this year, thanks to its efficiency, convenience, and competitive fares. Train&Fly will be improved even further when Spain’s HST network reaches Madrid-Barajas Airport in the near future, and as new value-added services are incorporated by both companies.
14 Train and Fly Iberia destinations
Train&Fly is available on the iberia.com and renfe.com websites and at travel agencies for those wishing to combine international Iberia flights via Madrid with Renfe destinations: Saragossa, Seville, Malaga, Cordoba, Valladolid, Valencia, Alicante, Leon, Palencia, Pamplona, Salamanca, Albacete, Zamora. and Orense.
Combined Tickets Include Commuter Trains to/from Airport
The Train&Fly service is available for both single and returns travel. One ticket takes the traveler all the way from the city of origin to the final destination, since the price includes local commuter train service between Renfe’s Atocha and Charmartin stations in Madrid and the airport.
