Air New Zealand Service To New York Avoids Stopover

November 02, 2022 –

Passengers from New York to Auckland on Air New Zealand were informed of a stopover; however, the airline has since confirmed that the trip would go as planned and will fly the entire distance without stopping.

When Air New Zealand first announced that NZ1 would stop in Nadi, Fiji, it was because of high headwinds.

Air New Zealand Service To New York

This is not the first time the new service, the world’s fourth-longest, has encountered issues with its nonstop promise, with a prior flight requiring 15 passengers to disembark to save weight. Another removed luggage and rebooked it on another flight.

Critics have argued that the 787-9’s range isn’t sufficient for a 16- or 17-hour flight if the plane has to make a little detour due to unforeseen circumstances.

The A350-1000s that Qantas plans to deploy for its Project Sunrise flights to New York and London have a range of nearly 18,000 km, but the 787-9s’ maximum range is only 14,010 km.

Because of the “combination of high headwinds created by jet streams and turbulence across the USA,” Air New Zealand’s chief operating officer Alex Marren confirmed that the planned route would include the fuel stopover.

“Our number one goal is to get our guests to their destinations safely,” Marren said. NZ1 will arrive in Auckland five hours later than scheduled because of a brief stop in Nadi to refuel and change over the crew.

The flight, which the company had previously referred to as a “gas and go,” would have been the first to require a stop since it began service in September if the layover had gone as planned.

Even though Air New Zealand launched the service with much enthusiasm and gave the 17-hour flight from New York to Auckland the prestigious ‘NZ1′ flight number and the 16-hour flight back from Auckland to New York the NZ2 flight number, the airline has had some embarrassing issues.

Air New Zealand CEO Greg Foran called New York City “one of the world’s greatest cities,” adding that the company was “glad to add the Big Apple” to its list of 29 international destinations.

Expanding our East Coast service is wonderful news for our North American customers since it opens up a world of possibilities that includes New Zealand, the Pacific, and Australia.

A total of seven U.S. and Canadian cities are accessible, with Chicago starting yesterday and joining Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, and New York.

Qantas will launch a new service between Australia and New York City via Auckland, utilising the same 787-9s on14 June next year.

The Flying Kangaroo, on the other hand, cited a previous promise that the planes it had on order would be built “with greater room and fewer seats than most of our competitors.” The cabins aboard the Dreamliner are described as being “ideally adapted to longer international flights.”

Qantas’ 15-hour flight from Perth to Rome was made on the same plane.

“This is an exciting and important chapter for Air Belgium,” says Niky Terzakis, CEO.South Africa is one of the most important economic market for Belgium.

The reopening of these air connections, which have been suspended for more than thirty years, is eagerly anticipated. About two hundred Belgian companies, large and small, are established or have branches in South Africa.

They support trade and, more generally, economic development.Belgium is South Africa’s sixth most important trade partner. This number should easily reach 80,000 by 2024. The new Air Belgium routes will fill this gap. It should also be noted that many compatriots live and work in South Africa.

Next summer, United will operate to 37 cities in Europe, Africa, India, and the Middle East, more than any other U.S. airline combined.

United Airlines

United observed unprecedented demand for travel to Europe during the summer peak, up 20% from the previous year. It is committed to expanding its network to meet continuing demand strength.

Along with new flights, United will continue to operate nine routes launched last summer, including direct flights between Newark and Nice, Denver and Munich, Boston and London Heathrow, Chicago and Zurich, and Chicago and Milan, as well as flights to four destinations not served by any other North American airline, including Amman, Jordan, Azores, Portugal, Palma de Mallorca, Spain, and Tenerife, Spain.

Malaga – Newark

With additional direct flights between New York/Newark and Malaga, United adds a sixth Spanish destination to its worldwide network. Beginning 31 May 2023, passengers will be able to experience Spain’s Mediterranean coast with three weekly flights to Malaga on a Boeing 757-200.

Stockholm – Newark

United will resume service to Stockholm from Newark on 27 May 2023 for the first time since 2019. In 2005, United began servicing Stockholm, which residents lovingly call “beauty on the water.” With daily flights on a Boeing 757-200, United will reconnect passengers with this culturally rich and dynamic capital city.

San Francisco – Rome

United expands its industry-leading European network from San Francisco with daily flights to Rome beginning on25 May 2023 on a Boeing 777-200ER. This flight will be operated using a Boeing 757-200.

Washington Dulles – Berlin, Germany

United will launch a capital-to-capital service between Washington, D.C. and Berlin on 25 May 2023. United will be the only carrier to operate non-stop flights between these two cities, with daily flights on a Boeing 767-400ER.

Chicago – Barcelona

Beginning 25 May 2023, United will expand its best-in-class European network from Chicago with new direct, daily flights to Barcelona on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. United will fly more to 14 European destinations from Chicago next summer than any other airline.

Qantas Resumes Direct Brisbane Tokyo Flight On 1 December

October 17, 2022 –

The Sunshine State’s tourism industry will get a boost from 1 December 2022, when Qantas will resume three weekly flights between Brisbane Airport and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport.

Brisbane Tokyo Flight

Ryan Both, the Executive General Manager of Aviation at Brisbane Airport, said that restoring non-stop flights between Tokyo and Brisbane would open this pipeline and benefit local businesses and the tourism economy.

The route was secured thanks to the Attracting Aviation Investment Fund, a cooperative initiative between the Queensland government and the aviation industry that has so far brought in over $200 million to promote tourism in Queensland.

The launch of Qantas flights was hailed as a significant event for Brisbane and the state of Queensland by Stirling Hinchliffe, the minister responsible for tourism in Queensland.

He stated that in the year ending in December 2019, “Japan constituted the third-largest market by expenditures and the fourth-largest by visits to Queensland before COVID-19.”

There were around 219,000 Japanese tourists in 2019, who spent $459.7 million during their visits and stayed an average of 15.8 days.

CEO of Qantas International, Andrew David, believes the new service between Haneda and Brisbane will increase tourism in Australia’s Sunshine State.

Forward reservations are tracking well, especially for the forthcoming Australian holiday period. He noted, “Qantas is the first airline to run commercial scheduled flights between Haneda and Brisbane.”

In the aftermath of the 11 October news that border restrictions were being lifted, there has been an uptick in interest among Australian tourists in visiting Japan, with 38% saying they want to do so within the next six months.

On 1 December, Qantas will launch its new service, which will see Airbus A330-300 planes depart Brisbane for Tokyo on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 11:50 a.m.

October 14, 2022 –

flydubai, the Dubai-based airline, continues to grow its operations to the island nation of the Maldives with the launch of a new daily service to Gan International Airport (GAN) from 04 February 2023.

Flydubai daily services to Maldives

flydubai started its operations to the Maldives in 2013 with the launch of direct flights to Velana International Airport (MLE) in the capital Male’. With the start of the new daily service to Gan next year, the carrier will increase its frequency to the market to 28 flights a week.

Commenting on the start of operations to Gan, Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai, said: “The start of our daily flights to the southern island of Gan will give our passengers more options to travel to the beautiful Maldives. This new service will reduce the commute time whether by boat or seaplane for those staying in resorts in the southern Atolls. The Maldives continues to be one of the most popular leisure destinations for our customers from the UAE, GCC and CIS. The additional frequency to the market will further support connecting traffic from Europe as well.”

Emirates Airlines A380 returns to Narita, Japan

October 13, 2022 –

Emirates, is upgrading capacity on its Narita-Dubai route with the deployment of its flagship A380 from 15 November, as Japan scraps the daily arrival cap, and lifts the COVID-19 testing and self-quarantine protocols for inbound travel. Following the Japanese government’s announcement last month to ease the entry restrictions, Emirates has seen a spike in bookings for flights to its gateways – Narita and Osaka.

Emirates Airlines

Emirates’ flight EK318 from Dubai will depart at 2:55hrs and arrive in Narita at 17:20hrs. The return flight EK319 from Narita will depart at 22:30hrs and arrive in Dubai at 5:30hrs the following day. All times are local. The reintroduction of the Emirates A380 to Narita also underscores the airline’s long-standing commitment to Japan’s tourism and travel sector. By providing more capacity, the airline aims to serve the pent-up demand for travel into Japan along with providing choice and flexibility for travellers through its daily service to Osaka EK316/317, operated by the Boeing 777.

This year, Emirates is celebrating two decades of successful operations to Osaka’s Kansai International Airport. Emirates was the first airline to establish air connectivity between Japan and the UAE, as well as the rest of the Arabian Gulf countries back in 2002. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the airline continued to contribute to the local community by transporting essential air cargo between Japan and other global markets, which also helped to maintain the trade links that were needed during the unprecedented times via its Dubai hub.

Leisure travellers from over 60 countries can now travel to Japan visa-free and without guided tours. However, travellers must still check the entry requirements. Tickets can be booked on emirates.com, the Emirates App, or via travel agents.

The Emirates A380 experience remains highly sought after by travellers offering 14 First Class suites and 76 lie-flat seats in Business Class. Customers travelling to and from Narita can look forward to enjoying its spacious and comfortable cabins, signature products that offer travellers the best experiences in the sky like the Onboard Lounge, First Class suites, Shower Spa and an award-winning inflight entertainment system that includes more than 5,000 channels of on-demand entertainment. The airline has been gradually accelerating the deployment of its flagship A380 aircraft in line with growing demand for air travel. Currently, Emirates’ Superjumbo is deployed to over 30 global destinations with more routes to be announced in the near future.

FlySafair adds 11 new destinations including Seychelles, Victoria Falls

FlySafair adds 11 new destinations including Seychelles, Victoria Falls

FlySafair adds 11 new destinations including Seychelles, Victoria Falls

October 11, 2022

FlySafair has received approval to operate flights to 11 new destinations within the southern African region, it announced on Monday.

The Air Services Licensing Council of South Africa has approved FlySafair’s application to operate flights from Cape Town and Johannesburg to Gaborone, Livingstone, Luanda, Lusaka, Maputo, and Victoria Falls.

In addition, the airline has been approved for frequencies from Johannesburg to Bulawayo, Nairobi and the Seychelles, as well as between Cape Town and Windhoek. Its application for routes between Johannesburg and Harare, Windhoek and Zanzibar, and additional frequencies to Mauritius are still pending.

FlySafair can now engage the relevant airport and civil aviation authorities in each market and begin planning its flight schedules.

“While this is a big milestone, there is still a fair amount of work ahead of us from an operational perspective,” says Kirby Gordon, chief marketing officer of FlySafair. “By launching a host of new services, we hope to provide passengers with more options for air travel at a competitive price.”

Since the beginning of the year, FlySafair has added four new aircraft to its current schedule with one more on the way in January. While the new capacity forms part of the airline’s long-term growth plans, the airline expects that the additional seats will help to stabilise domestic flight prices going into the busy holiday season.

Latam

LATAM to resume flights to Johannesburg

LATAM to resume flights to Johannesburg

LATAM to resume flights to Johannesburg

October 08, 2022

LATAM currently operates 212 international flights from its base in São Paulo Guarulhos, and the South African city will join the list of 20 international destinations the airline covers.

The airline stopped its commercial operations in South Africa following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the pandemic outbreak, LATAM was the only airline operating direct flights from South America to South Africa, which is about to resume.

LATAM Brazil’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Aline Mafra, told the press

“Johannesburg is another milestone in our international resumption movement, which is being carried out in a strategic way, expanding the offer where there is passenger demand. This flight will meet a corporate demand that has always been relevant between the countries, in addition to the potential tourism at the destination. A direct operation between the countries will undoubtedly be a differentiated product in the airline market.”

LATAM International Recovery

As of September 2022, LATAM had recovered about 72% of its operational capacity in the international market.

Johannesburg, South Africa, is not the only international destination the airline is recovering. LATAM will resume its direct flights to Boston in October 2022, bringing its international flight destinations to 21.

In the face of Covid-19 travel restrictions, the Latin American airline filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy after losing major cities it once covered across the globe.

Measuring the number of seats available as of September 2022, LATAM had recovered about 72% of its operational capacity in the international market.

Covering 20 (21 by the end of October) international destinations from the 26 they did before the COVID-19 pandemic is quite a wholesome recovery.

Delta and LATAM

Delta and LATAM will work closely to create the leading airline partnership between the United States/Canada and South America (Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay) and connect the Americas to the world like never before with access to more than 300 destinations, after the U.S. Department of Transportation granted final approval to their Joint Venture.

Once implemented, the approval enables Delta and LATAM Airlines Group, LATAM Airlines Brasil, LATAM Airlines Colombia, LATAM Airlines Peru and LATAM Airlines Paraguay to begin the work of unlocking new customer and cargo benefits – including enhanced service and expanded route offerings – that will add to the codeshare routes and reciprocal loyalty benefits already in place. More details on the benefits of the partnership will be shared in the coming months.

Delta and LATAM announced in 2019 that they would form the leading airline partnership throughout the Americas, with the goal of significantly expanding travel choices across North and South America and offering an industry-leading customer experience. Since then, the partners have achieved a number of milestones that include mutual frequent flyer mile accumulation/redemption; reciprocal elite frequent flyer benefits; shared terminals at hub airports like New York JFK, São Paulo, Brazil, and Santiago, Chile; and mutual access to 53 Delta Sky Club lounges in the United States and five LATAM Lounges in South America, including Delta’s new show-stopping Sky Club in Los Angeles and the new LATAM Lounge Santiago de Chile, the largest customer lounge in South America.

In 2020, Delta and LATAM introduced their first codeshare services in South America, and in 2021 expanded codeshare services to 20 U.S.-South America routes plus connections to a broad range of domestic and regional destinations from their hubs in Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles, Santiago, Lima, Bogota and São Paulo, improving connectivity between the two regions.
