Icelandair Unveils 2 Exciting New Winter Destinations

Because who said winter travel should be all snow boots and sad sandwiches at Gate 43? Icelandair is cranking up the excitement with new winter routes to Edinburgh and Malaga for the 2025–2026 season—plus more flights to Brussels and beyond.

Get ready to chase Northern Lights or sunshine. Or beer in Brussels. We don’t judge.

Vikings Go Global (Again): Icelandair’s Big Winter 2025 Moves

Whether you’re dreaming of sipping sangria under a palm tree, wandering the medieval streets of Edinburgh in your coziest knitwear, or simply avoiding your in-laws until spring—Icelandair has got you covered this winter.

Here’s what’s new on the flight board:

Edinburgh: 3–4 flights weekly

From September 12, 2025, to April 12, 2026, Icelandair returns to the land of kilts, castles, and questionable deep-fried food. It’s not just any return—it’s symbolic, marking 80 years since Iceland’s very first international flight… to Scotland. Nostalgia, meet airfare.

Malaga: 1–2 flights weekly

Escape the icy streets and go full Costa del Sol from September 6, 2025, to May 30, 2026. You can still wear wool socks on the plane, but they won’t be necessary when you land. This sunny new route brings a much-needed vitamin D boost to Icelandair’s frosty schedule.

And There’s More: Brussels, Alicante, Barcelona Get the VIP Treatment

It’s not just about the new kids on the route map. Icelandair is also bulking up flights to Brussels, because apparently the world can’t get enough of waffles, EU politics, and fancy beer.

Expect increased frequencies to:

  • Brussels – now with more chances to pretend you’re going for work
  • Alicante & Barcelona – because let’s be real, someone in your group always wants tapas

Extra Love for Hamburg and Nashville

Hamburg gets an October extension, because one month of schnitzel isn’t enough.

Nashville stays on the playlist through January—now you can hit Broadway Street and still make it back in time for hot chocolate season.

Why the Expansion? Because Icelandair Isn’t Just a Summer Fling

CEO Bogi Nils Bogason (yes, that’s his real name and yes, it’s awesome) says the airline is going all in on reducing seasonality. Translation: they’re not about to pack up the fleet and nap until spring.

Thanks to newer, more fuel-efficient aircraft, Icelandair is flying smarter—and farther—all year long.

“These routes help us grow outside the summer rush and connect more people to Iceland, whether they’re chasing the Aurora or escaping it,” Bogason said, probably while wearing a perfectly tailored parka.

Bottom Line: More Flights, More Fun, and Fewer Excuses to Stay Home

So whether you’re:

  • Heading to Scotland for history and haggis
  • Hitting Malaga for sunshine and sangria
  • Popping to Brussels because you like your chocolate complicated and your beer stronger than average

Icelandair is making winter travel less about freezing and more about freedom.

So book the flight, pack your thermals (or your flip-flops), and get ready to fall in love with winter—one new destination at a time.
