Cathay Pacific adds Exciting 1st ever Hong Kong – Munich Route

Cathay Pacific is on a roll — and we’re not talking about the in-flight bread basket. The airline has just added another stamp to its passport with the launch of brand-new direct flights between Hong Kong and Munich. The inaugural flight soared into Bavarian skies on June 16, giving travellers an easy hop between Hong Kong and Germany’s capital of beer, bratwurst, and BMWs.

It’s the latest move in what can only be described as a turbo-charged European comeback. Just earlier this month, on June 5, Cathay Pacific kicked off its new service to Rome — cue the pasta and gelato — and it’ll be back in Brussels by August 3. Clearly, someone at head office has a soft spot for European city breaks.

The Hong Kong–Munich route is running four times a week, with sleek Airbus A350-900s doing the honours. That’s 38 lie-flat Business Class seats for those who fancy a good night’s sleep, 28 Premium Economy seats for the ‘treat yourself’ crowd, and 214 comfy Economy seats for everyone else who just wants to get to Oktoberfest on time.

Europe, here we come (again)

Cathay Pacific’s European network is now looking seriously impressive. By the height of summer, the airline will be flying nearly 100 return flights every week to 12 top European cities — from London and Paris to Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Madrid, Rome, and now Munich and soon Brussels. Your European getaway options just got a serious upgrade.

Why Munich?

Aside from the obvious — pretzels the size of your head — Munich is a major business hub. The new route is perfect for business travellers, techies, automotive execs, and anyone who loves a good biergarten. Plus, it brings German travellers closer to Hong Kong’s bright lights and Asia’s exotic delights.

And thanks to Cathay’s vast codeshare network and connections into mainland China, passengers can easily link up to even more destinations across the region — so you can be in Munich one day and sipping tea in Chengdu the next.

Cathay Pacific and HK Express: world domination in progress

This is all part of the Cathay Group’s mission to reclaim its spot as a global airline heavyweight. The group (Cathay Pacific + cheeky younger sibling HK Express) will be serving more than 100 global destinations this year, with a whopping 18 new routes added in 2025 alone.

So far, the expansion is going full throttle, with Cathay building out its long-haul network and HK Express buzzing around Asia. Together, they’re turning Hong Kong back into one of the world’s busiest and most connected hubs — and giving travellers more routes, more options, and, hopefully, more good deals.

Raising a glass to Europe

All in all, Cathay Pacific’s new Munich service is great news for travellers on both sides of the globe. Hongkongers can now land in Munich just in time for a crisp Bavarian lager, while German travellers can be in Hong Kong quicker than you can say ‘dim sum.’

With comfy new planes, plenty of flights to choose from, and a few exciting routes still to come, Cathay Pacific’s European expansion is truly taking off. So — ready for your next adventure?
