Cathay Pacific Makes a Glorious Comeback to Rome, Nearing 100 Global Destinations

Ciao, Roma! Cathay Pacific has officially returned to the Eternal City, reinstating its non-stop service between Hong Kong and Rome just in time for the 2025 travel season. This long-awaited route marks the airline’s fourth new destination this year and is another major step toward a milestone that’s well within reach: 100 global passenger destinations.

Rome joins a growing list of new cities added to the airline’s expanding map in 2025, following the launches of Hyderabad, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Urumqi—a mix of business, leisure, and culturally rich destinations that clearly show Cathay isn’t just back, it’s back with flair.

Buongiorno, Business Class

The newly resumed Rome flights are scheduled to operate three times weekly—on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—using Cathay Pacific’s fuel-efficient Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The jet features a layout designed with both comfort and productivity in mind:

  • 38 flat-bed Business Class seats, perfect for turning long-haul travel into nap time (or uninterrupted Netflix time)
  • 28 Premium Economy seats for that “I deserve more legroom” vibe
  • 214 Economy seats, still comfy enough to enjoy that pasta dish at 35,000 feet

The timing is ideal for both business travelers and holidaymakers:

  • CX293 (HKG to FCO) departs Hong Kong at 00:30, arriving in Rome at 07:35—just in time for an espresso and a full day of sightseeing.
  • CX292 (FCO to HKG) leaves Rome at 13:00, landing in Hong Kong at 06:30 the next day, so you’re home for breakfast (jetlag optional).

A European Comeback Story

With Rome now back in the schedule, Cathay Pacific is ramping up its European offering to impressive heights. The airline now serves 12 European cities with close to 100 return flights per week, making it easier than ever for travelers to connect between Asia and the continent’s most iconic destinations.

Besides Rome, current European stops include:

  • London
  • Paris
  • Milan
  • Zurich
  • Frankfurt
  • Amsterdam
  • Madrid
  • Manchester
  • Barcelona

And it doesn’t stop there—Munich and Brussels are next in line, set to join the roster this summer.

Not Just Cathay, It’s the Whole Group

While Cathay Pacific is focusing on long-haul prestige, its low-cost sibling HK Express is also hard at work, launching six new routes in 2025 across Asia. Whether you’re after a budget-friendly beach break or a last-minute escape to a regional hotspot, HK Express is helping fill in the map and make travel across Asia more accessible for all.

Together, the Cathay Group is on track to exceed 100 global destinations in the first half of 2025, a major recovery milestone that signals both resilience and ambition in a post-pandemic landscape.

Why Rome Matters

Rome isn’t just another dot on the map—it’s one of Europe’s most visited cities, steeped in history, culture, and, yes, carbs. From the Colosseum and Vatican City to gelato-fueled walks along the Tiber, it’s a destination that speaks to the soul of travelers. For Cathay Pacific, returning to Rome means reestablishing a vital link between two global cities—and showing the world that long-haul leisure travel is officially back.

In Summary: Arrivederci, Layovers

Whether you’re flying for fashion, finance, or fresh fettuccine, Cathay Pacific’s return to Rome is great news for travelers on both sides of the globe. With sleek aircraft, thoughtful scheduling, and a growing list of global destinations, the airline is building serious momentum—and turning its 2025 expansion into a runway success.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, but with Cathay Pacific, getting there just got a whole lot easier.
