Chinese companies, including suppliers to Tesla Inc., have been establishing factories in Mexico in recent years, with electric vehicle leader BYD Co. poised to join them soon.

Simultaneously, China has been ramping up its exports to Mexico, a trend that gained momentum during the pandemic.

In 2022, China’s direct investment in Mexico hit a record high of $587 million, as reported by Mexico’s Economic Secretary.

Over the past four years, bilateral trade between the two countries has surged by 38%, according to Bank of Mexico data for the 12 months leading up to November 2023 compared to the same period in 2019.

Furthermore, the number of Chinese visitors to Mexico experienced a significant rebound in 2023, with 161,300 entries recorded, almost reaching pre-pandemic levels, according to data from the Mexican government.
