Edelweiss set to launch exciting direct Zurich to Lulea flights winter 2025

Edelweiss set to launch exciting direct Zurich to Lulea flights just in time for winter adventures

Swiss travellers, prepare your warmest winter coats — Edelweiss is taking you north this season! The airline has just announced it will launch a brand-new direct route between Zürich and Luleå in Swedish Lapland, with flights starting from December 19, 2025 — perfect timing for anyone dreaming of snow-dusted forests, twinkling northern lights, and the full Arctic experience.

Operated once a week on Airbus A320 aircraft (with 174 cosy seats ready for all your thermal layers), this new connection is set to bring Switzerland a whole lot closer to Sweden’s magical north.

And whether you’re chasing the aurora borealis, heading off on a snowmobile safari, or simply after some crisp, fresh Lapland air, you’ll be able to get there direct — no layovers required.

Swiss demand for Arctic adventures on the rise

It’s no secret: over the past few years, Lapland has become one of Europe’s hottest (well, coldest!) travel trends — and Swiss travellers are leading the charge.

From December through to the end of winter, the pull of snowy landscapes, fairy-tale villages and that all-important northern lights selfie draws in visitors in droves.

Edelweiss, part of the Lufthansa Group, spotted this rising demand and saw an opportunity to expand its northern network — and so, the Zürich–Luleå route was born.

According to Edelweiss, the new service isn’t just for tourists, though. It’s also expected to be popular with business travellers, family visitors, and anyone with connections between Sweden and Switzerland — strengthening ties between the two regions just as the winter season kicks off.

Swedavia gives the thumbs up

Elizabeth Axtelius, Director of Aviation Business at Swedavia (the operator of Luleå Airport), welcomed the news with open arms. “Zürich is a hugely popular destination for Swedes,” she said, adding that this new direct link is a fantastic step in improving the region’s international connectivity.

She’s not wrong — this is Edelweiss’s debut at Luleå Airport, and it marks another milestone in connecting northern Sweden to the wider European market.

Why Luleå is the place to be this winter

If you’ve never been to Luleå, this winter could be the perfect time to go. Picture this:

  • Snow-covered streets and frozen seas (yes, you can walk on them)
  • Dog-sledding tours and ice-fishing trips
  • Candlelit dinners in cosy wooden lodges

And, of course, prime opportunities to witness the legendary northern lights — often putting on a show from as early as September

For Swiss travellers longing for an authentic Arctic experience, this is the real deal. And with Edelweiss’s new direct service, getting there is suddenly a whole lot easier.

A growing northern European network

The Zürich–Luleå route is part of Edelweiss’s ongoing expansion into northern Europe, as more and more travellers seek out winter destinations that go beyond the traditional beach holiday.

With growing interest in adventure travel, eco-tourism, and winter wellness, Lapland is ticking all the right boxes — and Edelweiss clearly plans to stay ahead of the curve.

As for the locals in Luleå? They’re more than ready to welcome their Swiss visitors with open arms — and probably a mug of steaming hot lingonberry juice.

Final boarding call

In short: whether you’re looking to cross “see the northern lights” off your bucket list, hit the snow trails, or just enjoy a cosy escape in the far north, Edelweiss’s new Zürich–Luleå flight is set to be one of this winter’s coolest new routes — in every sense of the word.

Get those snow boots packed — Lapland is calling!

Exciting New Zurich to Tbilisi Route Launched by Edelweiss 2025

Exciting New Zurich to Tbilisi Route Launched by Edelweiss 2025

So, you were thinking of another scenic Swiss getaway, maybe one more round of fondue or a hike with views that look like a postcard, right? Well, scrap the predictable. Edelweiss has officially decided it’s time you met your wild side—with direct flights from Zurich to Tbilisi, Georgia!

Yep, starting April 12, 2025, Edelweiss took to the skies and flew straight into the heart of the Caucasus, launching a brand-new route with the kind of enthusiasm usually reserved for free samples or Eurovision voting. Naturally, there was a ribbon-cutting ceremony—because nothing says “We’re excited about dumplings and ancient monasteries” quite like a giant pair of scissors and smiling airline executives.

Two Flights a Week. Unlimited Adventures.

The airline will now run two weekly flights from Zurich to Tbilisi, operating until the end of October 2025. You’ll be cruising comfortably aboard an Airbus A320, which—let’s be honest—feels like a major upgrade from those convoluted “via six countries and a goat-cart” itineraries we’ve seen in the past for getting to Georgia.

With a flight time of just over four hours, it’s never been easier to swap chocolate for khachapuri and snowy Alps for sulphur baths.

So… Why Tbilisi?

If you’ve never heard of Tbilisi, buckle up. This city is what happens when East and West swipe right on each other. Think cobbled alleyways, colourful balconies that defy gravity, 4th-century fortresses, street art on every available surface, and cafes that look like they were designed by moody poets and maximalist grandmothers.

There’s an underground sulphur bath scene that’ll steam the stress right out of you. The food is a glorious carb-loaded adventure (we’re talking khinkali, lobio, and cheese boats so beautiful they deserve their own national holiday). And the wine? Oh, just 8,000 years old, no big deal.

Tbilisi is the kind of place where you can go from sipping Saperavi in a family-run wine bar to paragliding off a mountain before sunset. Basically, it’s giving “main character energy,” and Edelweiss knows it.

For the Adventurous… and the Incentivised

This isn’t just great news for solo wanderers and spontaneous couples—it’s also a big win for groups and incentive travel. Looking for a destination that ticks every box: exotic, exciting, culturally rich, and surprisingly affordable? Tbilisi’s your new MVP.

Think team-building over traditional feasts, corporate retreats in mountain wine resorts, or just “strategic planning” sessions that somehow end in a Georgian dance party. If you need help organizing all that? We’ve got people for that. (Seriously—ask us.)

Time to Ditch the “Been There, Done That” Crowd

Let’s be honest—if you have to see another Instagram post from Dubrovnik or yet another photo of someone “finding themselves” in Bali, you may scream. Tbilisi, however, is still a bit of a hidden gem (for now), which means you can be a travel trendsetter instead of a tourist cliché.

You’ll return home with stories that don’t involve overpriced lattes or sunburnt yacht parties, but rather underground jazz clubs, ancient monasteries carved into cliffs, and possibly a new appreciation for fermented things in jars.

Your Boarding Pass to “Wait, You Went Where?”

So here’s the deal: Edelweiss has opened the door to a destination that’s got history, mystery, carbs, cliffs, and charisma. Whether you’re in it for the food, the views, the thermal waters, or the simple joy of telling people you’re off to Georgia (no, not that Georgia), this flight is your golden ticket.

Book your seat, pack your stretchy pants, and prepare to fall in love with a country that has mountains taller than your ambitions and wine older than your excuses.

Salalah: Oman’s Best-Kept Tropical Secret

Forget everything you thought you knew about Oman. Salalah isn’t all sand dunes and endless desert—it’s a lush, tropical oasis with banana plantations, swaying coconut trees, and landscapes that look more like Sri Lanka than the Arabian Peninsula. Add pristine beaches, warm waters all year round, and a chilled-out atmosphere, and you’ve got the ultimate sun-soaked getaway.

When to Fly

Edelweiss is offering twice-weekly flights to Salalah until May. Then, like a smart traveller avoiding peak summer heat, the route takes a break before resuming in September. Whether you’re after a spring escape or an autumn recharge, there’s a flight to fit your plans.

Want to double your Omani adventure? Combine Salalah with a trip to Muscat—explore grand mosques, bustling souks, and waterfront forts before heading south for beachside bliss and a whiff of the region’s famous frankincense.

Highlights

  • First-ever direct flights from Zurich to Salalah, launched February 25, 2025
  • Twice-weekly flights running until May, then resuming in September
  • Salalah’s tropical vibes: palm trees, monsoons, and stunning beaches

Swiss Travelers, This Is Your Sign

Edelweiss is here to make sure Swiss travellers get their much-needed vitamin D, minus the layovers and stress. If you’ve had enough of icy sidewalks and endless layers of clothing, it’s time to swap ski boots for flip-flops. Salalah is waiting!
