New Direct Flight from Groningen to Knock Ireland 2025

New Direct Flight from Groningen to Knock Ireland 2025 Opens the Gateway to Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way

Dutch travelers, get ready for an Irish summer. Tourism Ireland is celebrating a brand-new charter service between Groningen and Ireland West Airport Knock, bringing the windswept beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way closer than ever to the northern Netherlands. The inaugural flight took off on Saturday, June 7, marking a fresh and convenient connection between the Dutch lowlands and Ireland’s dramatic west coast.

Operated by Emerald Airlines on behalf of Dutch tour specialist BBI Travel, the new weekly route will run through the end of August 2025, delivering sun-seekers, scenery-chasers, and pub-session enthusiasts directly into the heart of authentic Ireland.

One Small Step for a Flight, One Giant Leap for Dutch-Irish Holidays

With space for 70 passengers each week, this new service may be small in size—but it packs a serious tourism punch. No more layovers, detours, or long drives to Schiphol. From Groningen to Knock in a single hop, Dutch visitors now have direct access to Ireland’s west coast—an area famed for rugged cliffs, windswept beaches, charming villages, and the kind of hospitality that comes with a side of soda bread.

To kick off the first flight, Groningen Airport Eelde hosted a celebration fit for both sides of the North Sea. Guests were treated to live Irish music, festive fare, and even an appearance from TikTok star Tammo, proving that even influencers can’t resist a bit of céilí spirit. Among the dignitaries on site were the Ambassador of Ireland to the Netherlands, representatives from Tourism Ireland, BBI Travel, Emerald Airlines, and Ireland West Airport Knock—underscoring just how important this route is for both nations.

Wild Atlantic, Now Boarding

For Dutch travelers looking for a change from city breaks or Mediterranean heatwaves, Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way offers something refreshingly different: green hills, historic castles, windswept coastlines, seafood chowder, and Guinness poured properly. And now it’s just a two-hour flight away.

BBI Travel is making it even easier with tailored one- and two-week holiday packages, combining flights with local accommodation, experiences, and transport. Whether you’re road-tripping through Connemara or watching the sunset from the Cliffs of Moher, these packages take care of the planning—so all you have to do is pack a raincoat and an adventurous spirit.

From Marketing Blitz to Booking Bonanza

To make sure the Dutch public knows about this new link, Tourism Ireland and BBI Travel have teamed up on an extensive promotional campaign across the Netherlands. Think billboards, radio spots, travel magazine spreads, and a strong social media push—all designed to showcase the untamed beauty of Ireland’s west coast.

Influencers are already onboard (literally), sharing their adventures with audiences back home, while Dutch travel agents are being looped in with B2B campaigns to help spread the word and get more packages booked.

A Growing Connection Between Two Like-Minded Nations

Ireland and the Netherlands have always shared a love of landscapes, music, good beer, and slightly unpredictable weather. This new charter route strengthens that connection, creating a new gateway for Dutch travelers who want to see another side of Europe—where the Wi-Fi is optional but the welcome is guaranteed.

According to Karen van der Horst, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for Northern Europe:

“We are delighted to welcome this new charter service from Groningen to Ireland West Airport Knock. This flight represents a valuable opportunity to grow holiday visitor numbers from the Netherlands to the Wild Atlantic Way this summer.”

So, whether it’s your first time to Ireland or your fifteenth, this summer’s direct Groningen–Knock flight is your golden ticket to dramatic coastlines, warm pub fires, and unforgettable Irish adventures.

Now boarding: the Wild Atlantic Way. Dutch passports welcome.
