August 3, 2021: Information on entry restrictions, testing and quarantine regulations in Israel

Tourists cannot travel to Israel individually as of the beginning of August. However, plans to re-open the country for visitors have been announced. Thanks to Israel’s high vaccination rate, life in the country has returned to a situation that is close to normal. The current expected timeline for Israel’s re-opening to tourists is as follows:

  • Currently, tourists cannot enter Israel as individuals, unless they are coming to visit a first degree relative or are traveling as part of a small number of closed groups taking part in a pilot. Meanwhile, most hotels in Israel have mostly re-opened.
  • As of August 3rd, 2021, individual tourists cannot yet travel to Israel. The re-opening of Israel for individual tourists has been pushed back to an unconfirmed date. Once tourists are allowed to travel to Israel, most Israel package tours and regular tours will resume. We do not recommend booking until it is clear what the travel regulations are.

The information above is of course, subject to change. Sign up for updates at the bottom of this page in order to be the first to know when things change.

WHO CAN VISIT FROM AUGUST 2021? DO I NEED A VACCINE OR COVID-19 TEST TO VISIT ISRAEL?

Whilst the situation is still dynamic and subject to change, the current plan for reopening has not been published, Yes, that’s right, although we are already here and Israel opens to tourists in August, there is still no official announcement about who can come in and how. Therefore, we do not recommend booking for August until there is finalized clarity from the authorities. It is expected to eventually be the following requirements (this is expected to be the process but is not yet officially confirmed):

  1. Tourists who are fully vaccinated with vaccines approved by the USA or European Union (Pfizer, Moderna, Astra Zeneca, Johnson and Johnson) which includes around 45 countries including USA, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, etc will be able to enter Israel with a negative PCR corona test taken before the flight, a vaccination certificate, and a serological test on arrival to Ben Gurion Airport. As of June 16th, 2021, all travelers entering Israel must quarantine for 24h upon arrival in Israel or until a negative test result is received. Before leaving Israel a PCR test is required.
  2. Tourists who are fully vaccinated with vaccines not approved by the USA or European Union will be able to enter Israel with a negative PCR corona test taken before the flight, a vaccination certificate, and a rapid serological test (finger prick) on arrival to Ben Gurion Airport. As of June 16th, 2021, all travelers entering Israel must quarantine for 24h upon arrival in Israel or until a negative test result is received. Before leaving Israel a PCR test is required.
  3. Tourists who are not vaccinated but have recovered from Covid-19 – will either not be permitted or will be permitted subject to a serological test (to be decided).
  4. Tourists from “red” countries with a high rate of covid-19 will not be allowed to visit Israel. The countries that are on this restricted “red” list as of July 30th, are: UK, Spain, Cyprus, Turkey, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Russia, South Africa, India, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil. According to the latests assesments, Greece, Italy and the UAE may enter the list in the coming weeks.

The information above is of course, subject to change. Sign up for updates at the bottom of this page in order to be the first to know when things change.

HOW CAN I MAKE TRAVEL TO ISRAEL MORE COMFORTABLE? WHERE CAN I GET TESTED?

With regulations changing constantly, read about how to get a Covid test in Israel for precise information about the testing on arrival to and departure from Israel. Before leaving Israel, carrying out a Door to Door Covid test or at the Tel Aviv covid test center helps avoid the hassle of going to a hospital or an extra trip to the airport.

Due to the more complex nature of the airport experience during these times, using a VIP fast-track airport service can make the airport experience hassle-free and more comfortable both on arrival and departure. Whilst this service can skip most queues and reduce time dramatically, the private Fattal Terminal reduces queues entirely and you will transfer to a dedicated area of the airport in a luxury car.

WHAT ARE THE CURRENT ISRAEL TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS? WHERE I CAN VISIT ISRAEL FROM?

Individual tourists from the following countries on the restricted “red” list can not enter Israel on July 30th: Spain, Cyprus, Turkey, the UK, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Russia, South Africa, India, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil. According to the latest assessments, Greece, Italy, and the UAE may enter the list in the coming weeks.

All tourists arriving in Israel must quarantine for at least 24 hours. Tourists who have been vaccinated must quarantine for 24 hours or until they receive a negative serological Covid-19 test. To learn how and when you need to get tested for Covid-19 in Israel, read our guide. Or click here to learn how to get a Covid test in Israel easily and quickly.
