waldorf salad

Waldorf Salad – famous since1890

Today we  journey back to the glitzy days of the late 1800s, where the Waldorf Salad made its grand entrance. Picture this: crisp apples, snappy celery, juicy grapes, and crunchy walnuts, all mixed together in a creamy dressing. This salad has been the belle of the ball for generations, and today, we’re sharing how to whip up this culinary classic in your very own kitchen!

The Waldorf Salad Saga:

So, picture yourself at the  Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City, circa the late 1800s. Oscar Tschirky, the maître d’hôtel extraordinaire, is on a mission to wow the hotel’s guests. And voilà, the Waldorf Salad was born! Originally, it was a simple mix of apples, celery, and mayo. But as time went on, it got a glow-up with grapes and walnuts joining the party.

Recipe:

Ingredients Waldorf Salad:

  •  2 sassy apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, take your pick), diced
  • 1 cup thinly sliced celery (it’s like the salad’s crunchy sidekick)
  • 1 cup of grapes, halved (because life’s too short for whole grapes!)
  • 1/2 cup of toasted walnuts, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup of mayo (the creamier, the better!)
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice (to give it that zesty zing)
  • 1 tablespoon of honey (to sweeten the deal)
  • A pinch of salt and pepper (because seasoning is everything)
  • Fresh parsley, for a fancy finish (optional, but oh-so-pretty)

Instructions Waldorf Salad:

  1. Let’s Dress to Impress: Grab a bowl and whisk together the mayo, lemon juice, honey, salt, and pepper. Give it a taste and adjust to your liking. Set it aside for now.
  2. Time to Toast, Toast, Toast: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread those walnuts on a baking sheet and pop ’em in the oven for about 8-10 minutes. They’re done when they’re golden and fragrant. Let them cool while you resist the urge to eat them all!
  3. Mix and Mingle: In a big ol’ bowl, toss together your diced apples, celery, halved grapes, and those irresistible toasted walnuts. Let ’em get acquainted.
  4. Get Saucy: Pour that creamy dressing all over your apple party and gently mix until everything’s coated in deliciousness. It’s like giving your salad a cozy blanket of flavor.
  5. Make It Look Pretty: Transfer your Waldorf wonder to a serving dish and sprinkle some fresh parsley on top. You eat with your eyes first, after all!
  6. Dive In and Chow Down: Grab a fork and get ready to taste the magic! Whether it’s a light lunch or a side dish for dinner, this Waldorf Salad is sure to steal the show.

And there you have it, the Waldorf Salad, a true gem of culinary history! So next time you’re in the mood for something fresh, crunchy, and downright delicious, give this recipe a whirl. With its crisp apples, snappy celery, juicy grapes, and creamy dressing, it’s a salad that’s sure to put a smile on your face. Bon appétit!

Why not plan a trip to New York and taste this wonderful salad in it’s hometown. Check out your options here

Just a few minutes’ walk away from the hotel is the historic center of Malo-les-Bains, known for its long sandy beach with colorful beach huts which is perfect for sports such as sand yachting, kite surfing and paddleboarding. Guests can also enjoy wandering through the streets of Malo-les-Bains to admire the multi-colored designed villas known as Malouines and the Dunkerque Museum of Modern Art where there is a superb panoramic view of the town and sea from the top floor.

The materials used for the interior design all hark back to the grandeur of the 1930s, with terrazzo floors, brass gilded features, velvet accents, enamel restaurant tables and spectacular wood veneered ceilings that lend warmth to the atmosphere of the grand hotel. Meanwhile, the hotel’s facade pays tribute to local 19th century architecture.

The hotel’s restaurant and bar, L’Opale, has a terrace with sea views and large floor-to-ceiling windows that allow diners to track the sun throughout the day.

Chef Charles Bruneval pays homage to the wealth of local ingredients and rich culinary heritage of Flanders with his recipes that honor a region that has been seasoned and spiced by both the land and sea. Beer is an important part of local culture, and guests can enjoy approximately 30 benchmark brews that vary with the seasons.

The hotel has partnered with one of Dunkirk’s three craft breweries, Brasserie des 4 Écluses, to create a bespoke beer that will be served exclusively at L’Opale. At the bar, a resident mixologist serves signature cocktails every evening, in addition to the classics.

Chema Basterrechea, President for EMEA at Radisson Hotel Group says, “Radisson Blu Malo les Bains is a superb addition to our portfolio in France, which now includes 18 properties in operation or under development.

Situated just 2 hours and 20 minutes from Paris, Radisson Blu Malo les Bains offers much more than its outstanding location, unrivalled beach views and direct access to the fully renovated Digue des Alliés breakwater.

In addition to two running routes, which run along a three-mile radius of the hotel, guests can hire bikes so they can cycle along the coastline as far as the Belgian border.

Located opposite the hotel is the FRAC contemporary art museum, housing 1,500 pieces of art. There is a wide range of heritage sites to explore within the hotel’s vicinity, such as the 15th century Saint-Eloi Belfry monument, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Dunkirk, which offers breathtaking views of the coastline about 58 meters above sea level. The port is also home to an open-air museum, featuring ships that have been classified as national historic monuments.

The Dunkerque 1940 Operation Dynamo Museum, found inside the bunkers of Bastion 32, guides visitors through the events of Operation Dynamo, the largest military evacuation in history and a Second World War turning point.

With the health and safety of guests and team members as its top priority, Radisson Blu Grand Hotel & Spa, Malo-les-Bains is implementing the Radisson Hotels Safety Protocol program.

The in-depth cleanliness and disinfection protocols were developed in partnership with SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing, and certification company, and are designed to ensure guest safety and peace of mind from check-in to check-out.

The baptism of Jesus in 2030 – its 2nd millenium – will be celebrated by Jordan

The baptism of Jesus in 2030

The baptism of Jesus in 2030 will be celebrated by Jordan

Jordan has launched a $100 million master plan aimed at attracting 1 million Christian pilgrims to celebrations of the second millennium of the baptism of Jesus in 2030.

The baptism of Jesus in 2030 will likely look very different from what we have seen in the past.  The baptismal site, Jordan River, and other traditional elements of Jesus’ baptism could be simulated in 3D and experienced by a global audience.

The baptism of Jesus in 2030

The ambitious $100 million master plan was unveiled by a foundation created by the Jordanian government to develop the “Bethany Beyond the Jordan” area, on the east bank of the Jordan River, long venerated as the place of Jesus’ baptism by John the Baptist. Archaeological discoveries of an ancient monastery at Al-Maghtas, Jordan, became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2015.

Samir Murad, chair of the new foundation, said his group plans to provide Christians access to visit and worship at the site while respecting its integrity.
U.N. backs Jordan’s claim on site where Jesus was baptized

“We wanted to provide pilgrims a chance to be able to spend quality time at the location of the baptism while respecting its spirituality and the UNESCO World Heritage site conditions,” said Murad, a businessman and former minister of labor.

Murad’s team rejected proposals for five-star hotels and fine dining and instead opted for “glamping”-style lodging for more down-to-earth accommodations. “We decided on a biblical village theme that attempts to re-create a 2,000-year-old experience,” he said.

Visitors will have a choice of eateries serving local organic food, “centered on the wilderness and plants mentioned in the Bible,” Murad said. Electricity and WiFi lines will be placed underground so as not to clutter the aboveground experience.

Murad said the initial phase of the project will cost about $15 million. A second phase, which will include a three-star hotel, restaurants, shopping area, museum, wellness center, nature sanctuary and “opportunities for pilgrims to have special quiet spiritual time,” will cost as much as $85 million.

It was unclear, he said, how the project in its entirety will be funded.
“Our initial goal is to raise the needs for the first phase so that people can see and feel what we plan to do,” Murad said.

Perspective: Did historical Jesus really exist?
Nine faith organizations have been officially granted the opportunity to build a place to welcome pilgrims to the baptism site.

One of the nine is the Baptist World Alliance, a network of Baptist churches around the globe, which is partnering with the Jordanian Baptist Convention on constructing the Baptist outpost in Bethany Beyond the Jordan.

The deadline for both phases “is set for 2029, to be ready for the 2,000-year anniversary of the baptism of Jesus at the River Jordan.”

WestJet’s commitment to Edinburgh and Scotland is a show of confidence in our market and demonstrates the huge interest in both Scotland and Canada as tourist destinations as well as important business and trade links. We are prepared for a stampede for tickets and are looking forward to working with WestJet to make this route a success and explore further opportunities if and when they arise.”

Asia Best Golf Destination – which country wins the award in 2022?

Asia Best Golf Destination - which country wins the award in 2022?

Asia Best Golf Destination

November 29, 2002, TAsia Best Golf Destination – which country wins the award in 2022?At the 9th Annual World Golf Awards – WGA took place on 15th November, in Abu Dhabi (the United Arab Emirates), Vietnam nabbed the coveted “Asia’s Best Golf Destination 2022” title again. The country’s claimed this accolade 5 times before in 2017 – 2021.

At the World Golf Awards Gala Ceremony 2022, Vietnam beat out heavy hitters in the region including Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, to become the “Asia’s Best Golf Destination 2022”.

Asia Best Golf Destination

This award for Asia Best Golf Destination marks the 6th time in a row Vietnam receives this title. In the World category, Vietnam was honoured as “World’s Best Golf Destination” for 2 times in 2019 and 2021. It is a rigid affirmation of the excellent potential and reputation of Vietnam Golf tourism in the region and the world.

Mr. Graham Cooke – Chairman of the World Golf Awards 2022 shared that he has been to Vietnam many times and found that the country has a long coastline, a great climate to be able to play golf all year round. Vietnam also has many beautiful golf courses, which have been built up to international standards. That’s why Vietnam was voted as Asia’s favourite golf destination. Mr. Cooke then sent his congratulations to Vietnam and the Vietnam Tourism Golf Association.

Noticeably, at the WGA this year, the Vietnam Tourism Golf Association (VTGA) received “World’s Best Golf Association 2022” and the ELS Performance Golf Academy was crowned for “World’s Best Par 3 Golf Course 2022”.

This is a worthy achievement for Vietnam’s efforts when opening up to the world, strongly promoting the tourism industry, especially golf tourism in the post-Covid-19 period. The award resembles the success of promoting the image of Vietnam Golf, in which, Golf course investors, airlines, travel and tourism industry play a very important role in Vietnam.
