It is another boost to the province’s tourism sector, which is trying to get back on its feet.

Wesgro CEO Wrenelle Stander explained: “I’m very pleased to say that with Air Belgium coming back, we’re getting to about 23 of the 27 direct services back into operation, so we’re very excited about that.”

She also said that the tourism market was slowly getting back to pre-COVID-19 numbers.

“The international operations are back at about 60-65% and the domestic operations are back at 72%, so the recovery, I think, is quite strong,” said Stander.

Air Serbia expands network

April 5, 2022 – Air Serbia expands network

Air Serbia will begin expanding its network this month with the introduction and resumption of routes, additional flights, expansion of its charter network and capacity growth.

Air Serbia expands network

As of next week, the airline will increase frequencies on a number of destinations from its Belgrade base including Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin, Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Milan, Oslo, Paris, Podgorica, Rome, Sarajevo, Skopje, Stockholm, Tivat, Zagreb and Zurich. The carrier will also resume operations to Venice next week after more than two years.

During this month, Air Serbia will launch the first of its fourteen new routes, with services to Valencia to be inaugurated on April 21. Sales for the first flight are performing well, with the carrier upgrading capacity to the Airbus A320 aircraft.

Air Serbia expands network:

Starting next week, Air Serbia is commencing its summer charter program with operations kicking off to Hurghada. This year, the carrier will maintain leisure flights to Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Italy and Algeria. Destinations include Antalya, Bodrum, Cephalonia, Chania, Corfu, Gazipasa, Dalaman, Heraklion, Hurghada, Izmir, Oran, Palermo, Rhodes, Samos, Sharm El Sheikh, Skiathos and Zakynthos.

Air Serbia expands network:
The most frequent are once again Antalya in Turkey and Hurghada in Egypt. Air Serbia will also operate charters from Niš to Antalya, Gizpasa and Hurghada, with services to commence in mid-June. “Although the peak travel period is still in June, July, August, and mid-September, in the last few years we have also seen growth in charter services during April, May, October, and November”, the airline said. Last year, Air Serbia operated a total of 1.100 round trip charter flights, carrying some 140.000 passengers.

The Serbian carrier is expected to see a boost in demand next month after the basketball EuroLeague Final Four tournament, which was due to be held in Berlin, was moved to Belgrade due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In line with the expected finalists and spike in demand, the airline is increasing capacity on flights to Athens and Barcelona, with teams from Greece, Spain and Turkey expected to take part. In the coming period, Air Serbia also plans to expand its Airbus fleet, to complement the addition of regional turboprop aircraft.

The carrier’s CEO, Jiri Marek, recently said, “We are continuing the massive expansion of our network in order to complement the existing service and provide passengers the broadest possible selection when planning trips and holidays. We plan to fly to more than sixty destinations in Europe, North America, and the Middle East this year. An exciting a dynamic period is ahead of us”.

KLM direct flights to 167 destinations this summer

March 31, 2022 -KLM direct flights to 167 destinations this summer

With direct flights to 167 destinations, KLM is ready for summer. Between 27 March and 29 October, KLM will fly to 96 European and 71 intercontinental destinations, offering excellent choice for business and leisure travellers alike.

KLM direct flights

Europe: increased capacity

Demand for air travel is increasing as Covid-19 restrictions are lifted in the Netherlands and other EU countries. KLM has responded by expanding capacity on European routes by 10% compared to last year, almost matching the 2019 pre-pandemic level. This amounts to about 16 million seats in total. The Portuguese cities of Porto and Lisbon, with three and four flights a day respectively, are just some of the destinations seeing an increase in KLM flights.

KLM direct flights: The success of the new destinations of Belgrade, Dubrovnik and Palma de Mallorca, which were added to the KLM route network last year, means they will once again be included in the summer schedule. KLM also expects business travellers to return, which is why frequencies are added to British, German and Polish routes.

Services to Kyiv, St Petersburg and Moscow continue to be suspended. KLM is keeping a close eye on developments in the region.

KLM direct flights: Intercontinental: frequently to the Caribbean and more often to the USA

KLM has also increased capacity on its intercontinental route network by 17% compared to last year, in response to a rising trend in bookings. This summer, we will operate daily flights to Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao, increasing the frequency to Curaçao to twice daily during the summer holiday season. Port of Spain, KLM’s new tropical destination in the winter schedule, is included in the summer schedule too, offering customers thrice weekly flights between Amsterdam and the capital of Trinidad and Tobago.

KLM direct flights: Since the USA eased travel restrictions in November 2021, demand for flights has grown steadily. KLM capacity to the USA this summer matches that of 2019. The resumption of flights to Salt Lake City and the new addition of Austin to our route network, means we will be operating direct services this summer to 12 destinations in the USA, the highest number ever.

Austin, the state capital of Texas, is a flourishing technology hub and home to a large number of technology companies. It is also a thriving student city with a vibrant nightlife, Formula 1 and the major South by Southwest annual festival (SXSW). KLM operates three flights a week to Austin.

KLM direct flights: We are also seeing more and more countries in Asia opening up to visitors again. Although Covid-19 travel restrictions vary from country to country, summer demand is increasing for such destinations as the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Bali.

India too has indicated that it will be easing travel restrictions. KLM will respond by increasing frequencies to Delhi and Mumbai. Asia continues to be a strong and important market for cargo, allowing us to continue to operate lower frequency services to all pre-pandemic destinations.

Travel restrictions continue to apply in China, which means we cannot yet resume our usual network services to China. Due to EU sanctions against Russia, KLM is not operating in Russian airspace.

Flight times to and from South Korea, Japan and China are consequently on average two hours longer than usual. Flights to Japan and China are currently making a stopover in Seoul.

Capacity on most routes to South America has been restored to more or less pre-pandemic levels. We are currently operating daily services to Sao Paulo, Panama City and Lima, with a minimum of six flights a week to Quito/Guayaquil, Bogota/Cartagena, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires/Santiago de Chile.

Passengers wanting to fly to Africa this summer can now choose between ten destinations. Capacity has been expanded on many routes, compared to last summer, to meet the growing demand. Zanzibar, which was added to our route network last year, is once again included in the summer schedule.

KLM direct flights:  is also operating services to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Accra, Lagos, Kigali, Entebbe, Nairobi, Kilimanjaro, and Dar es Salaam.

British Airways returns to Gatwick with short-haul flights on March 29

airline news

British Airways returns to Gatwick

March 30, 2022 – British Airways returns to Gatwick

After two years British Airways returns to international short-haul flying from Gatwick Airport today (Tuesday 29 March), as its first service departed for Larnaca at 6:25am.

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic the airline suspended its European operation at Gatwick Airport, moving a number of flights over to Heathrow. Today marks a milestone in the airline’s recovery as it finally returns to international short-haul flying from the airport.

British Airways returns to Gatwick

Initially services will operate under the British Airways Air Operators Certificate (AOC), before moving operations to a new British Airways branded subsidiary, BA Euroflyer* later in the year. The new airline will operate in a similar manner to the company’s existing subsidiary BA Cityflyer, flying under the British Airways brand and delivering a premium British Airways product.

On the first day of operation, British Airways will operate four short-haul flights to Larnaca, Amsterdam, Paphos and Tenerife. In total, customers will have the choice of 35 destinations to fly to from Gatwick, before more destinations are added later this year.

British Airways returns to Gatwick: Not only has it created more choice for customers, but also helped create jobs as the airline undertook both a cabin crew and pilot recruitment campaign to fill positions at its new subsidiary.

Tom Stoddart, Acting CEO British Airways Euroflyer, said “Now that British Airways returns to Gatwick, it marks a significant milestone for British Airways as we operate our first European services from Gatwick in two years.”

“I am really proud of what we have created at Gatwick, we have an excellent team with lots of new and exciting talent. I am looking forward in anticipation to see our newest subsidiary grow, adding new routes and providing customers with more options to get away on holiday with a premium British Airways service.”

British Airways returns to Gatwick: Millar Smith, British Airways Euroflyer Crew member, said: “I was over the moon when I found out that I had been accepted as crew for British Airways, it is my dream job! Before this I worked as a 999 handler for the London Ambulance Service, which has been incredibly useful throughout my training with the airline. British Airways is a premium British airline and that is what excited me about the job role. My first service will be to Tenerife and I can’t wait!”

British Airways returns to Gatwick: Customers flying on the airline’s new subsidiary will receive the same high level of service they expect of British Airways as well as enjoying the benefits of travelling with the UK’s flag carrier including a generous baggage allowance, free water and snacks, free seat selection at -24 hours and frequent flyer benefits which include lounge access.

All of the airline’s services will have a Club Europe (business class) cabin setting it apart from its no frills competitors. Customers flying in this cabin will have access to a premium check-in experience, exclusive lounges and a complimentary gourmet meal and bar service on board.

Customers in the airline’s Euro Traveller (economy) cabin will be able to purchase food before travel which will include fresh options from Tom Kerridge as part of the airline’s ‘Speedbird Café’ menu and / or order ambient products and drinks onboard via their mobile phone.

The return of European short-haul flying from Gatwick comes a day after the airline returned to its home at Gatwick South Terminal following its reopening. To mark the occasion the airline also showed off its new dedicated World Traveller Plus check-in zone which is available for customers flying on a long-haul service with the airline. The new zone which sits alongside the airline’s Club World desks gives those travelling in its World Traveller Plus cabin (premium economy) an exclusive check-in experience. They will shortly be rolled out at Heathrow, followed by the rest of the British Airways network.
