Aer Lingus adds Kos (Greece), Olbia (Sardinia, Italy) and Brindisi (Italy) to its Euro destinations

December 16, 2022 –

Aer Lingus has unveiled a bumper 2023 summer schedule which will see it fly to 53 European destinations from Ireland, including three new exciting summer routes to Kos (Greece), Olbia (Sardinia, Italy) and Brindisi (Italy).

Aer Lingus

Aer Lingus also has over 2.25 million transatlantic seats on sale, making it the airline’s largest ever North American summer schedule to date. Next summer the airline will operate 15 routes from Ireland, including Cleveland for the first time and the return of Hartford, Connecticut. It will also operate two* direct transatlantic routes from Manchester to JFK and Orlando.

The summer 2023 schedule reflects the huge resurgence in leisure travel and the increasing demand for European sun destinations, particularly the Mediterranean. Aer Lingus is increasing its peak summer capacity to Malaga and Faro from both Cork and Dublin. It is also increasing capacity on other popular European routes including, Alicante, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Perpignan, Izmir, Bordeaux, and Athens from Dublin.

Tapping into Travel Trends

Industry insights reveal growing travel trends for 2023, with Forbes highlighting two interesting motivations for choice in 2023 – a feeling of familiarity when travelling as well as the quest to follow a path less travelled. Condé Nast Traveller’s fifth annual travel summit also reports very similar travel motivations for 2023, the key trends highlight people seeking experiences rather than destinations; solo travellers joining group trips with strangers; travellers splurging more than ever; and major interest in traveling to learn a new skill. Aer Lingus’ three new summer destinations will allow travellers to tap into these trends as each provides many different types of experiences to be enjoyed by those feeling wanderlust in 2023.

Summer 2023 is set to be a year of continuing resurgence in a post-pandemic world. As the demand for summer travel returned in force last year, as Irish consumers look to the skies after past summers of staycations. 2023 is forecasted to show strong demand for family favourite holiday destinations like Spain and Portugal which offer the comfort and reassurance of the familiar. Whereas younger generations seek adventure along the paths less travelled, like the streets of beautiful Brindisi and the sandy beaches of Sardinia. Popular booking website, Sky Scanner, also released research for 2023 stating that one in four are considering solo travel this year.

Europe for Summer

Greek Islands

What better destination for a summer experience than a sandy beach and beautiful views? Greek island Kos, new to Aer Lingus’ summer schedule, is steeped in rich culture and surrounded by warm, clear waters and is a perfect holiday destination. Island hoppers can also discover other popular Greek islands such as Corfu and Santorini this summer.

Culture Capitals

According to Glamour Magazine’s 2023 Travel Trends, travellers are also ready to buckle up and head to culture capitals of the world to whet their appetite for change. Aer Lingus is meeting this demand with two cultural destinations that won’t disappoint. Flying into Olbia in Sardinia, a town filled with medieval history and sandy beaches, this destination provides all the culture with a dash of beach escapism, the perfect balance! Taking a flight to Brindisi, a city steeped in history, holidaymakers can take in beautiful scenery of both sea and city views of the Apulia region.

Sun-seekers are encouraged to book early to get the best value and ensure their spot on these highly sought-after flights. Aer Lingus will commence twice weekly flights to the new destinations starting with Kos and Olbia from May and Brindisi from June.

North America Milestone

Looking to North America, Aer Lingus will have a bumper 2.25 million seats on sale for Summer 2023, making it a record schedule in its history of flying across the Atlantic. In peak summer Aer Lingus will deploy its full Airbus A330 fleet and A321neo LR aircraft on the Atlantic, enabling Aer Lingus to offer 20% more seats from Ireland to the North America than 2019.

Key favourites Boston, New York JFK, Chicago and Washington D.C will operate double-daily from Dublin during peak summer; new route Cleveland, Ohio will commence in May; and Hartford, Connecticut will resume in March for the first time since the pandemic. Aer Lingus will operate a total of 15* North American routes from Ireland next summer.

Speaking about the Summer 2023 Schedule, Susanne Carberry, Chief Customer Officer said,

‘’Demand for European sun destinations is at an all-time high post-pandemic, with European sun high on everyone’s wish list, so Aer Lingus is delighted to announce increases across our European schedule to the most sought after, trendsetting European destinations this summer.

We have three very exciting brand-new destinations on offer in Kos (Greece), Olbia (Sardinia, Italy) and Brindisi (Italy), which our customers are sure to love exploring this summer. Emirates and flydubai celebrate five years of partnership

November 23, 2022 –

This month marks five years since Emirates and flydubai activated their extensive partnership and joined forces to offer customers unrivalled travel options to every corner of the globe. They’ve certainly delivered on their promise. The carriers’ joint route network has significantly expanded, enabling more than 11 million customers to connect on over 250,000 flights and benefit from seamless travel since the partnership launched in 2017.

Emirates and flydubai

The innovative partnership goes beyond the standard codesharing model and today includes integrated network collaboration, schedule optimisation, seamless connectivity at Dubai International airport (DXB) between Terminals 2 and 3, baggage transfers on a single itinerary, as well as reciprocal loyalty benefits under the joint loyalty programme, Emirates Skywards.

Here’s five key highlights of Emirates and flydubai’s partnership and the benefits it offers to customers:

Joint network offers unrivalled choice: Today, customers have access to 215 destinations across 98 countries, with over 250 codeshare flights to choose from on an average day. Emirates customers can book flights to over 80 unique flydubai destinations and flydubai customers can choose from over 99 Emirates destinations. Popular customer favourites, whether travelling for business or leisure include: Kathmandu, Kuwait, the Maldives, Tel Aviv, and Zanzibar.

Joint loyalty programme maximising customer rewards: More than 8.5 million members have been able to enjoy joint Emirates and flydubai frequent flyer programme benefits, earning 150 billion Skywards Miles in the last five years through the partnership.

Seamless connectivity at DXB: Customers enjoy seamless check-in, efficient baggage transfers, passenger access to Emirates’ lounges at Terminal 3 and the flydubai lounge at Terminal 2, reduced connection times as both airlines expand their flight schedules, and convenient connections to 33 flydubai destinations operated from Emirates Terminal 3 in DXB.

Continued network growth: New travel opportunities are being created for the 270,000 passengers who connect between both airlines each month as Emirates and flydubai continue to add more flights to their schedules. This offers customers more flexibility with multiple daily flight departures to destinations like Bahrain, Kuwait, Karachi, the Maldives, key cities in Saudi Arabia and Tel Aviv. Both airlines also continue to expand their networks, with Emirates recently reinstating flights to Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires. In 2022, flydubai’s network has grown bigger than ever, launching flights to Al Ula, Namangan, Osh, Pisa and Samarkand, to name a few. flydubai has also announced services to Gan in the Maldives, Cagliari and Milan-Bergamo in Italy, Corfu in Greece and Krabi and Pattaya in Thailand from 2023 as well as the resumption of flights to Abha, Ha’il, Hofuf and Tabuk in Saudi Arabia.

Continued investment in enhancing the customer experience: Emirates will retrofit 120 aircraft with Premium Economy seats starting this month as part of a $2 billion investment which also includes elevated dining options and more sustainable choices. flydubai has debuted a new Business Class recliner seat offering customers more comfort on its short and medium haul flights. flydubai has grown its fleet to 70 Boeing 737 aircraft and will retrofit a number of its existing aircraft, as well as equip its future aircraft, with its new Business Class seats.

Air Serbia to Chicago

November 18, 2022 – Air Serbia to Chicago flights to commence in 2023 – find out the date!

Air Serbia will launch direct flights between Belgrade and Chicago (O’Hare International Airport – ORD) starting on 17 May 2023, thus continuing to expand its operations in the United States market. After a pause of more than 30 years, the Serbian national airline is again starting a service to the famous Windy City. Until 11 June, flights will be operated twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, while as of 12 June, Belgrade-Chicago flights will be operated three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Flights will last approximately 11 hours and will be operated by Airbus A330 aircraft from Air Serbia’s long-haul fleet. Tickets are already available for purchase at the starting price of 640 euros for a round trip, with all taxes included.

Air Serbia to Chicago – return after three decades

“After more than three decades, the JU 506/507 flight will mark the return of the national airline to Chicago. This is an extremely important city and we are certain that direct flights between Belgrade and Chicago will mean a lot not just to the Serbian diaspora, but also to the wider Balkans region. By introducing flights between those two cities, the region will be better connected to Chicago, and passengers will have more choices. With the good connections that Air Serbia offers we expect great interest for these direct flights, for those who want to continue their travel to other destinations,” said George Petković, Vice President Americas, Air Serbia.

By re-opening the route, Air Serbia to Chicago, will, via Belgrade, provide good connections between Chicago and other cities in its network, such as Athens, Vienna, Berlin, Bologna, Bucharest, Dubrovnik, Istanbul, Larnaca, Ljubljana, Prague, Pula, Podgorica, Rome, Sarajevo, Skopje, Sofia, Tivat, Venice, Zagreb, and many others. On the other hand, thanks to its interline partnership with JetBlue and American Airlines, Air Serbia will be able to offer better connections to passengers who will continue their travels toward other locations in North America from Chicago and New York.

With almost 2.8 million citizens, Chicago is the most populous city in the state of Illinois and the third biggest city in the U.S., after New York and Los Angeles. It is located on Lake Michigan, and is a part of both the Midwest and the Great Lakes areas. The city itself is considered an important hub for finance, culture, commerce, industry, education, technology, communication and transportation. Chicago is famous for its unique artistic sculptures and installations.

Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) is one of the six highest-traffic airports in the world, and in 2019, its services were used by over 90 million passengers, who had access to 236 destinations.

British Airways announces new direct US flight from London to Cincinnati

British Airways

British Airways announces new direct US flight from London to Cincinnati

November 17, 2022 –

British Airways has announced a new direct route from London Heathrow to the Cincinnati region, starting from Summer 2023.

Cincinnati will become the 27th US destination served directly from London by British Airways, which offers 300 transatlantic flights per week, the most of any UK carrier.

British Airways

Starting on 5 June 2023, this will be the only direct flight between the UK and all of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, creating incredible new opportunities for tourism and business across both sides of the pond. The flight will operate five times per week in the summer season and four in the winter.

Resting along the banks of the Ohio River, the Cincinnati region spans portions of three states – Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana – offering access to a wide range of US destinations on offer for work and fun.

Affectionately nicknamed Cincy or the Queen City, the area is home to world-class museums, more than 50 breweries, the USA’s largest Oktoberfest, three major sports teams spanning American football, basketball and football, and the Krohn Conservatory, an Art Deco greenhouse featuring 3,500 plant species from all over the world.

It’s renowned for its Cincinnati Chili, handmade ice cream and beer, whilst acting as a gateway to Northern Kentucky and the famed Bourbon Trail, a playground for bourbon-lovers. In addition, Kentucky is also synonymous with gorgeous rolling hills and bluegrass music.

Neil Chernoff, Director of Networks and Alliances at British Airways, said: “This is the first time we’ve flown this route, and we can’t wait to connect two cities which both have so much to offer. Not only will this open up these destinations to customers on each side of the Atlantic, but it will also improve connectivity between the Cincinnati region, Europe and beyond, with opportunities to connect to our wider network via London.”

Candace McGraw, chief executive officer of Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) said: “British Airways’ nonstop service from CVG to London-Heathrow is an all-around win for the Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana region. The economic impact of this transatlantic flight is exponential for business travel, economic development, and tourism between the UK and our area of the United States. We look forward to a strong partnership with our new friends across the pond for many years to come.”

Elsewhere in the US, British Airways has recently announced additional flights to Portland, Oregon which will become daily for Summer 2023, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which will increase to six flights per week. The airline is also adding an eighth daily flight to New York’s JFK airport in Summer 2023, and preparing to move into the airport’s Terminal 8, where it will co-locate with joint business partner American Airlines after a substantial redevelopment.

Through the Atlantic Joint Business (AJB) this new route will offer customers even more exciting travel connection at competitive prices – on one ticket. The AJB brings together the flight network of Aer Lingus, British Airways, Finnair, Iberia and LEVEL operating in Europe and Israel, and American Airlines in the USA.

Customers travelling to Cincinnati will travel in comfort on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with a choice of three cabins – World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premium economy) and Club World (business).

Passengers from New York to Auckland on Air New Zealand were informed of a stopover; however, the airline has since confirmed that the trip would go as planned and will fly the entire distance without stopping.

When Air New Zealand first announced that NZ1 would stop in Nadi, Fiji, it was because of high headwinds.

Air New Zealand Service To New York

This is not the first time the new service, the world’s fourth-longest, has encountered issues with its nonstop promise, with a prior flight requiring 15 passengers to disembark to save weight. Another removed luggage and rebooked it on another flight.

Critics have argued that the 787-9’s range isn’t sufficient for a 16- or 17-hour flight if the plane has to make a little detour due to unforeseen circumstances.

The A350-1000s that Qantas plans to deploy for its Project Sunrise flights to New York and London have a range of nearly 18,000 km, but the 787-9s’ maximum range is only 14,010 km.

Because of the “combination of high headwinds created by jet streams and turbulence across the USA,” Air New Zealand’s chief operating officer Alex Marren confirmed that the planned route would include the fuel stopover.

“Our number one goal is to get our guests to their destinations safely,” Marren said. NZ1 will arrive in Auckland five hours later than scheduled because of a brief stop in Nadi to refuel and change over the crew.

The flight, which the company had previously referred to as a “gas and go,” would have been the first to require a stop since it began service in September if the layover had gone as planned.

Even though Air New Zealand launched the service with much enthusiasm and gave the 17-hour flight from New York to Auckland the prestigious ‘NZ1′ flight number and the 16-hour flight back from Auckland to New York the NZ2 flight number, the airline has had some embarrassing issues.

Air New Zealand CEO Greg Foran called New York City “one of the world’s greatest cities,” adding that the company was “glad to add the Big Apple” to its list of 29 international destinations.

Expanding our East Coast service is wonderful news for our North American customers since it opens up a world of possibilities that includes New Zealand, the Pacific, and Australia.

A total of seven U.S. and Canadian cities are accessible, with Chicago starting yesterday and joining Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, and New York.

Qantas will launch a new service between Australia and New York City via Auckland, utilising the same 787-9s on14 June next year.

The Flying Kangaroo, on the other hand, cited a previous promise that the planes it had on order would be built “with greater room and fewer seats than most of our competitors.” The cabins aboard the Dreamliner are described as being “ideally adapted to longer international flights.”

Qantas’ 15-hour flight from Perth to Rome was made on the same plane.
