Every AirAsia Allstar on-ground and in the air is fully vaccinated and ready to provide world-class service and the best quality guest experience alongside stringent safety rules and procedures to give our guests total peace of mind.

“While we are extensively prepared to ensure all of our guests can travel safely from an operational standpoint through the robust safety and health measures that we have put in place including our contactless check-in procedure via airasia Super App, FACES facial recognition and more, we would like to remind our guests to adhere to all SOPs set by the government during their travels. Today is the day we have been waiting for and we can’t wait to see you back on board our flights soon!”

Fully vaccinated travellers who wish to travel to and from Malaysia must meet the requirements set by the Malaysian Government and the respective Governments of all origin and arrival countries prior to purchasing their flights and upon arrival.

As part of its robust health and safety protocols, AirAsia Malaysia has successfully migrated over 95% of its guests to use contactless self-check-in service via the airasia Super App and its website, an initiative that was made mandatory at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic last year. The airline will continue to promote its contactless procedures as an integral part of its efforts to further strengthen its Covid-19 mitigation plan.

As part of an ongoing education process, AirAsia is encouraging all guests to migrate and upgrade to the all-in-one airasia Super App for a seamless and contactless journey. AirAsia’s counter check-in service will be strictly for exempted categories of guests only at all airports in Malaysia from 1 April 2022. Among the exempted groups are senior citizens aged 70 and above, people with disabilities registered with the Welfare Department, young passengers travelling alone, group bookings of 10 guests and more, charter flight passengers and more.

AirAsia has twice been recognised for its robust and comprehensive Covid-19 mitigation plans, with highest levels of safety and operational integrity with a 7/7 rating from the aviation experts at airlineratings.com in 2021 and 2022.

April 1, 2022 – Marriott planning ten new hotels in Turkey

Marriott International has announced its intentions to expand its portfolio in Turkey, with 10 new hotels set to open by the end of 2022. Company’s portfolio in Turkey is also planned to consist of 43 hotels with approximately 7,000 rooms spread across eight markets. The group also announced two recent transaction signings under the Four Points by Sheraton brand, reinforcing its long-term emphasis on the market.

Marriott planning ten new hotels in Turkey

Consumers seeking residential property in communities that offer a convenient lifestyle and an array of on-demand amenities and services, as well as developers seeking to differentiate and elevate their products with trusted brands, continue to show interest in the company’s branded residential business in Turkey.

Marriott International currently has three branded residential properties in Turkey, including the Le Méridien Residences, Bodrum and The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Bodrum, which were the company’s first standalone branded residences in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Istanbul, and The Residences at the Sheraton Istanbul Esenyurt are also planned to open in 2022.

Select accommodations continue to grow strongly across the country

Marriott planning ten new hotels in Turkey:
The firm is scheduled to debut its extended stay brand, Residence Inn by Marriott, with the planned inauguration of Residence Inn by Marriott Istanbul Atasehir later this year, to fulfill the demand for longer-stay hotels in the country.

Modern, adaptable apartments with complete kitchens and separate living and sleeping spaces are suitable for visitors seeking the comforts of home, providing the perfect solution for travelers mixing business and leisure travel.

Owner desire for Marriott’s Premium brands

The company’s well-known premium brands continue to be a key growth engine in the Turkish market.

Marriott planning ten new hotels in Turkey:
Following the recent inauguration of the Orientbank Hotel Istanbul, Autograph Collection, two additional Autograph Collection hotels are set to open in Istanbul in 2021 and 2022 : The Burdock, Autograph Collection and Orient Occident Hotel, Autograph Collection. Autograph Collection hotels celebrate originality while benefiting from Marriott International’s size, allowing independent hoteliers to use the company’s distribution, sales, and loyalty network while preserving their independent character.

Delta Hotels by Marriott, which provides guests with exactly what they need for a seamless travel experience, made its debut in the country in 2019 with the opening of Delta Hotels by Marriott Istanbul Halic. The brand is slated to open Delta Hotels by Marriott Istanbul Levent by the end of 2021.

Sheraton Hotels & Resorts remains a popular brand in Turkey, despite undergoing a much-anticipated design makeover. Sheraton Istanbul Esenyurt is expected to open next year, following the recent launches of Sheraton Istanbul City Center and Sheraton Istanbul Levent.

The new Sheraton experience delivers services and design that promote sociability, productivity, and customization, drawing on its heritage as a community hub for locals and visitors. With the recent inauguration of the Izmir Marriott Hotel, the company’s flagship brand continues to expand its portfolio in Turkey.

Growth in conversion opportunities

Marriott planning ten new hotels in Turkey:
While a large majority of the company’s previous growth in Turkey has come from new-build initiatives, conversion prospects have increased. The business has inked six conversion deals throughout the country in the last two years.

Since then, Marriott International has launched five of the conversion transactions, including Sheraton Istanbul City Centre and Sheraton Istanbul Levent. There has also been a surge in interest in the adaptive re-use sector, as developers are trying to transform old structures into hotel rooms.

In the past three years, the company has also signed four adaptive re-use conversions in Turkey including JW Marriott Istanbul Bosphorus and The Burdock, Autograph Collection.

Clifford Tower – forbidden for 340 years!

blank

clifford tower

Forbidden for 340 years!

Clifford Tower now shows parts that were forbidden for 340 years!

Built for Henry III between 1245 and 1272, the Tower had a stunning £5million makeover, which took over 19 years (!).

Clifford Tower

Off-limits for 340 years, now you can see the  unusually luxurious fixtures and fittings, including England’s first flushing loo since Roman times. Rhere’s now a viewing platform at the top affording visitors amazing views of the city.

The transformation of what was York Castle’s 800-year-old keep has been 19 years in the making, with English Heritage’s head properties curator Jeremy Ashbee tasked with the project shortly after he joined the preservation charity in 2003.

‘Nothing beats standing on the spot where history happened,’ states English Heritage’s website, but since a fire that gutted the property in 1684, visitors to Clifford’s Tower have had to make do with a narrow wall walk, accessed by steep steps. In effect, the two-storey tower was an open-air ruin with no floors. As Ashbee admits, it was previously a frustrating visit because so much of the building – including the royal loo – could not be reached.

The new timber viewing platform retains a hole for the elements to enter, and Ashbee is keen to stress that the innovative internal structure, supported by four timber columns, touches the sidewalls of the tower only ‘lightly.’ Visitors climb to the roof — it’s more of a suspended deck, really — via see-through steel walkways.

Experience stunning views over the ancient city and immerse yourself in centuries of history at one of York’s most iconic sites. Clifford Tower has sat at the heart of the city since the Norman Conquest, and over the years it’s been a royal mint, a medieval stronghold and a garrison in the Civil Wars. Today, a spectacular new roof deck gives unrivalled views over York’s historic skyline, with its medieval buildings and famous Minster. Inside, new walkways and staircases have opened up parts of the tower that have been off-limits for centuries, and immersive soundscapes and stories are bringing the tower’s turbulent history to life like never before.

KLM direct flights to 167 destinations this summer

airline news

KLM direct flights

blank

blank

March 31, 2022 -KLM direct flights to 167 destinations this summer

With direct flights to 167 destinations, KLM is ready for summer. Between 27 March and 29 October, KLM will fly to 96 European and 71 intercontinental destinations, offering excellent choice for business and leisure travellers alike.

KLM direct flights

Europe: increased capacity

Demand for air travel is increasing as Covid-19 restrictions are lifted in the Netherlands and other EU countries. KLM has responded by expanding capacity on European routes by 10% compared to last year, almost matching the 2019 pre-pandemic level. This amounts to about 16 million seats in total. The Portuguese cities of Porto and Lisbon, with three and four flights a day respectively, are just some of the destinations seeing an increase in KLM flights.

KLM direct flights: The success of the new destinations of Belgrade, Dubrovnik and Palma de Mallorca, which were added to the KLM route network last year, means they will once again be included in the summer schedule. KLM also expects business travellers to return, which is why frequencies are added to British, German and Polish routes.

Services to Kyiv, St Petersburg and Moscow continue to be suspended. KLM is keeping a close eye on developments in the region.

KLM direct flights: Intercontinental: frequently to the Caribbean and more often to the USA

KLM has also increased capacity on its intercontinental route network by 17% compared to last year, in response to a rising trend in bookings. This summer, we will operate daily flights to Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao, increasing the frequency to Curaçao to twice daily during the summer holiday season. Port of Spain, KLM’s new tropical destination in the winter schedule, is included in the summer schedule too, offering customers thrice weekly flights between Amsterdam and the capital of Trinidad and Tobago.

KLM direct flights: Since the USA eased travel restrictions in November 2021, demand for flights has grown steadily. KLM capacity to the USA this summer matches that of 2019. The resumption of flights to Salt Lake City and the new addition of Austin to our route network, means we will be operating direct services this summer to 12 destinations in the USA, the highest number ever.

Austin, the state capital of Texas, is a flourishing technology hub and home to a large number of technology companies. It is also a thriving student city with a vibrant nightlife, Formula 1 and the major South by Southwest annual festival (SXSW). KLM operates three flights a week to Austin.

KLM direct flights: We are also seeing more and more countries in Asia opening up to visitors again. Although Covid-19 travel restrictions vary from country to country, summer demand is increasing for such destinations as the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Bali.

India too has indicated that it will be easing travel restrictions. KLM will respond by increasing frequencies to Delhi and Mumbai. Asia continues to be a strong and important market for cargo, allowing us to continue to operate lower frequency services to all pre-pandemic destinations.

Travel restrictions continue to apply in China, which means we cannot yet resume our usual network services to China. Due to EU sanctions against Russia, KLM is not operating in Russian airspace.

Flight times to and from South Korea, Japan and China are consequently on average two hours longer than usual. Flights to Japan and China are currently making a stopover in Seoul.

Capacity on most routes to South America has been restored to more or less pre-pandemic levels. We are currently operating daily services to Sao Paulo, Panama City and Lima, with a minimum of six flights a week to Quito/Guayaquil, Bogota/Cartagena, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires/Santiago de Chile.

Passengers wanting to fly to Africa this summer can now choose between ten destinations. Capacity has been expanded on many routes, compared to last summer, to meet the growing demand. Zanzibar, which was added to our route network last year, is once again included in the summer schedule.

KLM direct flights:  is also operating services to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Accra, Lagos, Kigali, Entebbe, Nairobi, Kilimanjaro, and Dar es Salaam.

Modern Tswana Fashion Week Botswana – designer battle held on April 30

blank

Modern Tswana Fashion Week

March 29, 2022  – Modern Tswana Fashion Week – Local fashion designers will go head-to-head in a contest to find the fairest of them all during a fashion event for Modern Tswana Fashion Week Investments dubbed the ‘Battle of Designers’.

Modern Tswana Fashion Week

The event will be held on April 30 at the Thapong Visual Arts from 5pm-11pm. It will be Modern Tswana Fashion Week Investments’ ninth fashion event since their establishment in 2017. In an interview with the founder of Modern Tswana Fashion Week Investments, Nchidzi James Chikumo, he explained that the Battle of Designers will host a competition for designers who will compete by dressing fashion models on the runway. He also said they have already hosted fashion-modeling workshops, which were attended by more than 100 fashion aspiring models, both males and females. “The designers will compete for cash prizes and other awesome vouchers.

Modern Tswana Fashion Week: The Battle of Designers will also host an exhibition for the arts and other creative industries to showcase their products or services to our audience and over 10,000 social media followers.

The event’s objective of Modern Tswana Fashion Week is to ensure that we develop and enhance designers’ creativity through a competitive platform that will challenge them to be more creative and think outside the box,” he explained. He further pointed out that the event will target new and established fashion designers so as to intensify the competitive spirit within the industry.

Chikumo also said the event was also for designers all over Botswana adding that both start-ups and established designers were welcome to join.

She stated that they intended to showcase Botswana’s fashion design creativity to their audience through the outfits made by the designers and fashion models. Chikumo added that they intend to unlock the designers’ next level creativity, which they could use in their daily work after the event.

Modern Tswana Fashion Week is aimed at promoting designers and fashion models and also get the designers closer to their target market. “We will also host an exhibition.

Modern Tswana Fashion Week will see different sectors of the industry of Botswana showcase and sell their products to our 250 event attendees.

Exhibitors will also get a chance to market their brands to our online social media platforms, which reach over 26,000 online users per week. The fear of COVID-19 is still around, which affects our tickets sales but we plan to have COVID-19 protocols to ensure the safety of our event attendees,” he added.

Chikomu said finding sponsors has been a minor setback since most businesses are still trying to recover from the effects of COVID-19. Furthermore, he explained that Battle of Designers will be hosted annually during the months April/May.

He added that they planed to expand to countries like South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe and many others since their events were doing well.

However, he said the fashion industry in Botswana has a long way to show growth and more creativity, which is why the Battle of Designers was conceived. He said the event will bring competition and push for growth of the fashion industry in Botswana as the industry was growing but at a very slow pace.

He explained that the fact that most of the material is imported made it very expensive for most Batswana designers, by so doing limiting creativity and access to the latest clothing materials.

To grow the local fashion industry, he said there is need for local fashion designers to start competing among themselves and take part in outside borders fashion events to keep up with the fast-changing industry trends.

Chikomu said they had Sparkle Designs who are very good and skilled in creating fashion outfits and accessories, KC-H Bespoke Couture Creators for all occasions, and also have couture outfits for hire, Connie Couture who is start-up designer schooling at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology and focuses on outfits you worn on a daily basis and Joe en NoNo Clothing and Upper Designs to name a few.

The event has tickets ranging from P200 to P350. The P250 standard ticket comes with a free cocktail (alcoholic or non alcoholic); the P200 student ticket includes a free beverage and the P350 VIP Ticket comes with a full meal and a beverage of choice. Modern Tswana Fashion Week Investments is dedicated to organising themed fashion events like fashion shows, fashion promotional activities and also fashion promotional campaigns.

All tickets for Modern Tswana Fashion Week are available at the WebTickets kiosk in Riverwalk Mall, Gaborone and all Spar supermarkets in Gaborone and Pik ’n Pay supermarkets. Tickets can also be found online at www. WebTickets.co.bw

8 Festival Vilnius – a New International Music Festival

8 festival

March 29, 2022 –  8 Festival in Vilnius – Netflix-Famous Prison in Vilnius Welcomes New International Music Festival

A century-old prison in Vilnius will welcome international music enthusiasts to a brand new music event. 8 Festival will showcase established and rising music talents from the U.S., Canada, the UK, Germany, Sweden, and other countries, a carefully curated program, and unique historical background in the city center.

This summer Lukiškės Prison 2.0—the most famous confinement facility in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania—will host a brand new music festival. The selection of indie, punk, electronic, and other genre artists will entertain modern music enthusiasts from June 17 to June 19, 2022.

8 Festival, organized by Lithuanian music agency 8 Days A Week, will feature a global lineup of established artists and emerging acts: German techno trio Moderat, Swedish post-punk band Viagra Boys, Britain’s rock band Black Country, New Road, American experimental musician Yves Tumor, a noise-rock quartet from Ireland Gilla Band, as well as the Tik Tok sensation Sub Urban, to name a few.

8 Festival

The organizing agency has been operating from Lukiškės Prison 2.0 since last spring. Having already launched a number of projects, concerts, and other activities, the agency has proved its contribution to turning the former prison into one of the capital’s most favored cultural venues.
Therefore, according to Martynas Butkevičius, head of bookings at 8 Days A Week, the century-old premises inspired the agency to play on its unique status as a prison-turned-arts cluster, bringing along the international community of artists and spectators.

Although Lukiškės Prison terminated its activities as a confinement facility in 2019, it made its name as a cultural hub last year when over 350 artists set up their studios and workshops on its premises. The facility has already gained international recognition when Netflix used it for filming the upcoming season of Stranger Things, and now hosts cultural, modern art, and live music events, as well as day/night tours.

“8 Festival is a new festival for true music lovers. This is Vilnius. This is our life. Lukiškės Prison 2.0 is our home and creative playground, and one of the most incredible live performance spaces in the Baltics,” Butkevičius said. “All local and international talents and household names will help us to create musical magic, leaving the ordinary affairs and problems behind us, and inspiring everyone visiting Vilnius and Lukiškės.”

Festival identity, programming choices, brand reputation, and the pursuit of rising talents and new music will be also entrenched across the online platforms through hashtag #mybloodyfestival. The organizers aim to use the hashtag to connect with fans and encourage them to dive into the explorations of new music genres, and up-and-coming artists.

Only 3000 spectators will be able to enjoy the carefully curated program, outstanding art installations, and top-notch food due to the limited prison capacity. To accommodate the everchanging COVID-19 landscape, the event will also be organized in compliance with all future regulations and safety measures.

British Airways returns to Gatwick with short-haul flights on March 29

March 30, 2022 – British Airways returns to Gatwick

After two years British Airways returns to international short-haul flying from Gatwick Airport today (Tuesday 29 March), as its first service departed for Larnaca at 6:25am.

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic the airline suspended its European operation at Gatwick Airport, moving a number of flights over to Heathrow. Today marks a milestone in the airline’s recovery as it finally returns to international short-haul flying from the airport.

British Airways returns to Gatwick

Initially services will operate under the British Airways Air Operators Certificate (AOC), before moving operations to a new British Airways branded subsidiary, BA Euroflyer* later in the year. The new airline will operate in a similar manner to the company’s existing subsidiary BA Cityflyer, flying under the British Airways brand and delivering a premium British Airways product.

On the first day of operation, British Airways will operate four short-haul flights to Larnaca, Amsterdam, Paphos and Tenerife. In total, customers will have the choice of 35 destinations to fly to from Gatwick, before more destinations are added later this year.

British Airways returns to Gatwick: Not only has it created more choice for customers, but also helped create jobs as the airline undertook both a cabin crew and pilot recruitment campaign to fill positions at its new subsidiary.

Tom Stoddart, Acting CEO British Airways Euroflyer, said “Now that British Airways returns to Gatwick, it marks a significant milestone for British Airways as we operate our first European services from Gatwick in two years.”

“I am really proud of what we have created at Gatwick, we have an excellent team with lots of new and exciting talent. I am looking forward in anticipation to see our newest subsidiary grow, adding new routes and providing customers with more options to get away on holiday with a premium British Airways service.”

British Airways returns to Gatwick: Millar Smith, British Airways Euroflyer Crew member, said: “I was over the moon when I found out that I had been accepted as crew for British Airways, it is my dream job! Before this I worked as a 999 handler for the London Ambulance Service, which has been incredibly useful throughout my training with the airline. British Airways is a premium British airline and that is what excited me about the job role. My first service will be to Tenerife and I can’t wait!”

British Airways returns to Gatwick: Customers flying on the airline’s new subsidiary will receive the same high level of service they expect of British Airways as well as enjoying the benefits of travelling with the UK’s flag carrier including a generous baggage allowance, free water and snacks, free seat selection at -24 hours and frequent flyer benefits which include lounge access.

All of the airline’s services will have a Club Europe (business class) cabin setting it apart from its no frills competitors. Customers flying in this cabin will have access to a premium check-in experience, exclusive lounges and a complimentary gourmet meal and bar service on board.

Customers in the airline’s Euro Traveller (economy) cabin will be able to purchase food before travel which will include fresh options from Tom Kerridge as part of the airline’s ‘Speedbird Café’ menu and / or order ambient products and drinks onboard via their mobile phone.

The return of European short-haul flying from Gatwick comes a day after the airline returned to its home at Gatwick South Terminal following its reopening. To mark the occasion the airline also showed off its new dedicated World Traveller Plus check-in zone which is available for customers flying on a long-haul service with the airline. The new zone which sits alongside the airline’s Club World desks gives those travelling in its World Traveller Plus cabin (premium economy) an exclusive check-in experience. They will shortly be rolled out at Heathrow, followed by the rest of the British Airways network.

Croatia nightclubs and bars to stay open until 2 am again starting this month

March 29, 2022 – Croatia nightclubs and bars may stay open late again.

As of March 17, Croatia will allow nightclubs and bars to work up to 2 am, instead of midnight. This notice was announced by the Croatian government alongside the other restrictions to be lifted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As we all know, nightlife was the most affected aspect of life caused by restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic in Croatia, and the whole world.

Croatia nightclubs and bars

While still having restricted working hours up to 2 am, the nightlife will not be the same as it was before the pandemic, but there will be a better chance to organise parties, concerts, and other events which usually take place during late evening hours, and which could not be organised in the conditions caused by the pandemic.

I believe this notice will encourage many clubs owners to reopen their bars and allow people to socialize again and have a good time during evening hours.

March 29, 2022 – Fairfield Marriott Japan –

Fairfield Marriott, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of 30 extraordinary brands, today announced the planned openings in 2022 of seven new Fairfield properties across four prefectures in Japan: Nara, Hokkaido, Hyogo, and Okayama. Together with these seven planned openings, the Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki project is expected to expand its portfolio to a total of 21 hotels across nine prefectures in the country by the end of 2022.

Fairfield Marriott Japan

These anticipated openings continue the momentum of the Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki project in Japan, a collaboration with Sekisui House that began in 2018. The Fairfield by Marriott hotels are located near roadside rest stations called “Michi-no-Eki” in Japan, situated close to national parks and UNESCO World Heritage sites that unlock access to many destinations off the beaten path.

“We are very excited to continue to expand the Fairfield portfolio across Japan in collaboration with Sekisui House,” said Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific (excluding China), Marriott International. “We have seen great success with Fairfield’s ‘Michi-no-Eki’ project, with 14 Fairfield by Marriott hotels already open across five prefectures in the country. We look forward to continuing to expand the brand’s footprint with new additions delivering Fairfield’s friendly service and warm hospitality in little-known destinations across Japan.”

Each Fairfield by Marriott hotel takes inspiration from its surroundings, delivering the beauty of simplicity for guests who appreciate a calming, reliable experience characterized by warm hospitality. The hotels’ public areas serve as flexible social spaces to share and connect with other travelers or simply to relax. Guests can expect a harmonious balance of functionality, comfort and enriching décor in natural materials and carefully selected amenities. Ranging in size from 21 to 25 square meters, each guestroom features comfortable beds, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a space-saving shower booth. The hotels also offer a Breakfast Box, allowing guests to start their mornings with a bento box filled with delicious local specialties as they prepare for the next stage of their journey.

Road trips are one of the best ways to explore Japan. The country’s network of expressways connect far-flung areas, making it highly convenient for visitors to explore the country. With the unique destinations at each of the Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki properties, travelers can enjoy “slow travel” and explore the country’s hidden gems by road.

In Hokkaido, travelers can embark on multi-day road trip journeys that take them from the lively energy of Sapporo to rural Naganuma, with its farms, rice fields, hill cafes and hot springs. A pleasant drive away is Eniwa, with its beautiful natural vistas of rural farmland and national parks. Then, travelers can head to Minamifurano for a few exhilarating days of outdoor activities.

Visitors exploring Nara and Hyogo prefectures have the option of beginning their journeys in Tenri, which was briefly the capital of Japan in the fifth century. A 45-minute drive away from Tenri is Osaka, where visitors can enjoy the infinite attractions of Japan’s third most populous city. Nearby is the cosmopolitan city of Kobe, with its rich history, many cultural attractions and, of course, the world-renowned high-quality Kobe beef. Off the beaten path, Minamiawaji is a gem of a city, connected to the island of Shikoku by the Onaruto Bridge, famous for the enormous Naruto tidal whirlpools underneath.

In Okayama, road trippers can explore the natural beauty of the Hiruzen Highlands on horseback, before heading on to Kurashiki, with its historic canals that date back to the Edo period. A half-hour drive away is Okayama, home to Okayama castle and Kōraku-en, one of the three most beautiful traditional gardens in Japan.

The hotels that are anticipated to open in 2022 are:

Families can enjoy camping, picnics and exploring the many waterfalls in the area. The dairy industry is an important part of the Hiruzen. March 28, 2022–Tenuta di Artimino

The hotel complex forms part of a former Medici estate surrounded by Tuscan countryside, and will open this spring

The Meliá Collection, a new Meliá Hotels International brand that brings together a collection of exceptional hotels with their own unique personality, has announced its latest addition: Tenuta di Artimino, a fantastic hotel complex in the heart of Tuscany, just 20 km from Florence, and scheduled to open in April to become the company’s ninth hotel in Italy.

Tenuta di Artimino

Located among the hills and vineyards of Montalbano, which was once home to an Etruscan settlement, the Villa Medici “La Ferdinanda” was built in 1596 by order of the Ferdinand I de’ Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, following a project designed by Bernardo Buontalenti. Also known as the Villa of the One Hundred Chimneys (Villa dei Cento Camini), it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013.

Next to the Villa is the hotel, built within a 17th-century Renaissance building and also accompanied by a group of lodges in the medieval village of Artimino, just 500 metres away. All in all, there are 102 rooms, suites, villas and lodges, as well as a winery, the gourmet restaurant Biagio Pignatta, the restaurant La Cantina del Redi (located in the heart of Artimino), a swimming pool, spa and large gardens and spaces for hosting events.

The rooms in Tenuta di Artimino are decorated in a Tuscan Renaissance style, with terracotta floors, wooden beams and elements using Pietra Serena, the typical Tuscan sandstone. Over the coming months, several renovation and redecoration works will be carried out in rooms and public areas to enhance the guest experience while also preserving all the historical and cultural legacy of this unique estate.

At the end of last year, Meliá Hotels International announced the launch of The Meliá Collection, a new collection of luxury hotels with their own particular personality, designed for travellers seeking both authenticity and a genuine connection with their destination.

They are carefully selected hotels, chosen either for their iconic location or historical significance, offering a choice of unique experiences designed to discover an unmistakable sense of place. The brand currently includes some of the most unique hotels in the company’s portfolio, such as the Meliá Serengeti Lodge in Tanzania, the Hacienda del Conde in Tenerife, the Hotel Villa Marquis in Paris or the Meliá Desert Palm in Dubai, among others.

The addition of Tenuta di Artimino is an important milestone for Meliá in its growth strategy in Italy, one of its top priorities in Europe, where it currently operates five hotels in Rome, Milan and Genoa. In addition to the opening of the Tenuta di Artimino, the company will also open in 2023 the majestic Gran Meliá Cordusio in Milan and its first two hotels in Sicily, the Meliá Siracusa and Meliá Taormina. The company is also continuing to explore projects in other destinations such as Sardinia and Puglia.

Located in central Italy and with its capital in Florence, Tuscany is the second most visited region in the country after Veneto. In addition to Florence, it is also home to other famous tourist attractions, such as Pisa, Siena, Lucca, Castiglione della Pescaia or Grosseto, as well as about 120 protected nature reserves.

The region is famous for its beautiful rolling hills and vast historical and cultural heritage. Origin of the Italian Renaissance, Tuscany was home to many influential figures of the time, whose legacy is preserved in some of the country’s best-known museums, such as the Uffizi Gallery and the Palazzo Pitti. The region is also famous for its wine, with its world-famous wines include Chianti, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano or Morellino di Scansano, as well as the Carmignano wine, produced by Tenuta di Artimino.
