Hong Kong reopens borders from 1st April

Hong Kong reopen borders from 1st April

March 21, 2022 – Hong Kong has begun the process of reopening its borders in response to growing demands from the business community.

Hong Kong reopen borders from 1st April

A ban on flights from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, India, Pakistan, Nepal and the Philippines will end on April 1st.

At the same time, hotel quarantine for arrivals from those destinations will be cut to seven days from 14.

Hong Kong chief executive, Carrie Lam, also confirmed citywide Covid-19 mass testing will be put “on hold”.

Most social-distancing measures will be gradually eased from April 21st, including allowing dining-in at restaurants after 18:00.

Up to four people will be allowed at social gatherings during the first phase of reopening.

Although Covid-19 cases have skyrocketed in recent weeks, officials have begun to acknowledge the damage the absolutist approach to controlling the pandemic has had on the city.

The moves were reportedly spurred by frustration in the banking community and wider population, which has endured more than two years of effectively closed borders.

While curbs and quarantines kept the city virtually virus-free for much of the pandemic, the more contagious Omicron variant evaded measures, cutting a swathe through the city.

Hong Kong now has the highest Covid-19 death rate in the world, with hundreds of under-vaccinated elderly people and care-home residents killed by the virus.

Seychelles PCR test

Seychelles PCR test requirement dropped for vaccinated travellers

Seychelles PCR test

March 17 2022 – Seychelles has shifted gear in its reopening and will no longer require visitors to present a negative PCR test.

Seychelles PCR test requirement dropped for vaccinated travellers

Effective immediately, visitors over 18 years, having received the first two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine including a booster dose after six months since completing the primary series, will be considered fully immunised.

All fully immunised visitors will be exempted from pre-travel PCR test requirement.

Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated visitors will be required to present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours or a rapid antigen test done in a certified laboratory within 24 hours before departure to Seychelles.

Potential visitors having tested positive to the Covid-19 virus – between two to 12 weeks prior to travel – are also exempted from pre-travel Covid-19 testing upon provision of
proof of infection and recovery.

As safe tourism experience remains essential, all visitors will still require travel insurance in addition to their medical insurance cover and are encouraged to book their stay at a certified accommodation.

Moreover, it is mandatory that all visitors apply for a travel authorisation prior to travel.

“The exemption of the PCR test for fully vaccinated visitors is certainly excellent news for Seychelles.

“With restrictions being removed and many destinations reviewing their PCR requirements for entry it was a necessary step for us as a destination to retain the interest of our potential visitors.

“As an industry, we are keeping our commitment towards safe tourism and we should not be complacent and remain vigilant to protect our population and our visitors,” said secretary for tourism, Sherin Francis.

The country has also recently eased other restrictions including the removal of the overnight curfew and closing time for entertainment services such as bars and casinos which became effective on March 1st.

Australia cruises

blank

March 16, 2022 – Australia announced it would lift its entry ban for international cruise ships next month, effectively ending all major COVID-related travel bans after two years and boosting a tourism industry hit hard by the pandemic restrictions.

Australia cruises will resume from April 1st

Australia banned the entry of cruise ships in March 2020, when they were the source of about 20% of Australia’s early coronavirus infections. The vessels became a flashpoint in its pandemic response after symptomatic passengers were allowed to disembark in Sydney, many of whom later tested positive.

The federal government said it would not renew the current ban beyond April 17 as the country begins to live with the coronavirus after reaching higher vaccination levels. Last month, Australia fully reopened its airports to vaccinated international travellers.

Before the pandemic, Australia welcomed more than 600,000 cruise ship passengers across its ports from almost 350 vessels in 2019, according to official data, a major source of revenue for the country’s A$60 billion ($43 billion) tourism industry.

“I can’t wait to see our cruise terminals once again filled with arriving international passengers, getting this important industry ship-shape and back out on the water once more,” Minister for Home Affairs Karen Andrews said in a statement.

The further ease in restrictions come amid the threat from the highly contagious BA.2 sub-variant of the Omicron coronavirus strain, which authorities have warned could double daily infections in the next four to six weeks.

Maldives removes PCR test

March 8 2022 – Maldives removes PCR test -The Maldives has become the latest country to relax its Covid-19-related entry restrictions.

Maldives removes PCR test requirement for vaccinated travellers from 8 march

As of March 5th, fully vaccinated foreign travellers are no longer required to provide a negative PCR test upon arrival in the destination.

Neither do they need to present a PCR test prior to departing the Indian Ocean archipelagic nation, according to a notice issued by authorities.

However, all inbound international travellers still need to complete the Traveller Health Declaration form within 48 hours of a flight.

The decision comes as vaccination rates worldwide continue to climb.

With an economy reliant on tourism, the Maldives opened its borders quite early on in the course of the pandemic, starting in July 2020.

Maldives removes PCR test
From late July 2021, all international visitors over the age of one needed a negative PCR test taken within 96 hours of departure for the Maldives.

Tourists checking out of a guesthouse on any inhabited island also had to provide a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of checkout.

new_zealand_reopen

March 8 2022 – New Zealand reopen – This week the New Zealand Government announced it is removing the self-isolation requirements for vaccinated travellers arriving in New Zealand. As per the government’s re-connecting plan, visitors from visa waiver countries (including the US and Canada) are expected to be allowed to enter New Zealand starting no later than July this year.

New Zealand reopen for travellers

Following the announcement, Sarah Handley, General Manager for Americas & Europe for Tourism New Zealand said “we are thrilled to be one step closer to being able to welcome back international visitors to New Zealand and showcasing the best New Zealand has to offer. We look forward to keeping industry and our partners closely updated on New Zealand’s plan to reconnect with the world”.

Getting to New Zealand is easy. From Los Angeles, Auckland is a non-stop 12 hour overnight flight. You can literally ‘wake up in New Zealand’. Prior to the pandemic, you could also fly to New Zealand non-stop from San Francisco, Vancouver, Houston, Chicago and Honolulu with all of these routes scheduled to return in 2022.

A land of diverse regions and landscapes, New Zealand stretches across two main and a myriad of small offshore islands. Here you can experience adrenaline, luxury and unique culture all in the same day. Thrill-seekers can add the adrenaline-rush of bungy jumping or exhilarating jet boat safaris, while the more sedate will enjoy world-class golf courses and award-winning wine and cuisine. Meanwhile, New Zealand’s fascinating Māori culture provides unique opportunities to connect and learn. A multicultural nation made up of vibrant and embracing cultures, Kiwis pride themselves in the warm welcome, or manaakitanga, travellers receive when visiting Aotearoa (New Zealand).

The high-level summary of entry requirements for all travellers to New Zealand pertaining to COVID-19 is as follows:

  • All travellers entering New Zealand must be fully vaccinated in line with New Zealand government entry requirements.
  • A negative pre-departure test (PCR, LAMP or Rapid Antigen) in line with New Zealand government requirements is required for all travellers.
  • No compulsory requirement for all arriving travellers to either self-isolate or enter a government-managed isolation hotel, i.e. all forms of isolation for arriving travellers (including foreign nationals) are removed at all border reopening steps except for unvaccinated New Zealand citizens and residents returning to the country.
  • All travellers will be provided with two rapid antigen tests at no charge on arrival at Auckland Airport which is self-administered after exiting from the airport.
  • Travellers will be asked to undertake the first test on the day of arrival and then a second test on day 5 after arrival, this can be done once travellers have left the airport e.g.at home or hotel.
  • Travellers who test positive via either of their arrival day or day 5 RAT test will be required to take PCR test to confirm positive status, if positive they will then be asked to self-isolate in line with the requirements that apply to all community COVID-19 cases in New Zealand.
