Baccarat hotel Rome

Baccarat hotel Rome set to open in 2025

Baccarat hotel Rome set to open in 2025

October 12 2022 –

SH Hotels & Resorts, the hotel brand management company founded by hospitality visionary Barry Sternlicht, Chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital Group, and Boscalt Hospitality, the real estate hospitality firm investing in key European cities founded by Liza Masias and Jaume Tapies, today announced their plans to reimagine the Eternal City’s landmark Hotel Majestic under the French luxury house Baccarat.

Baccarat hotel Rome

Set to open in late 2025 following a complete restoration, the property will epitomize Baccarat’s unparalleled beauty to enchant the senses with lavish finishes and flourishes and exquisite attention to detail. Baccarat Hotel Rome is poised to set a new standard for glamor and luxury in the Italian capital as a social and cultural hub. It is yet another expression in the ultra-luxe hospitality sphere of the world-renowned Baccarat brand, a name associated for over 250 years with enchanting, luminous objets d’art coveted by kings and queens, sultans and maharajas, movie stars and rock stars alike. The French house has always shared the art of celebrating worlds of joy, light and pleasure.

“We are pleased to partner with Boscalt Hospitality, a member of the Edmond de Rothschild Private Equity Partnership, to bring the Baccarat brand to Rome, which will forever be the Eternal City for the world’s most sophisticated explorers and travelers,” said Barry Sternlicht, Chairman of SH Hotels & Resorts. “This dynamic modern metropolis is not just one of the most cherished travel destinations in the world, but it has been a preeminent global political, artistic, spiritual, and cultural capital since the classical era. At Baccarat Hotel Rome, we will revive and restore the glamor and sophistication of an iconic luxury landmark by delivering a level of service and attention to detail that will delight guests and local residents alike.”

Like the Baccarat Hotel brand, the property’s history embodies opulence and style. From its 1889 grand opening as the first luxury hotel built on the fashionable Via Veneto, overlooking the Piazza Barberini and within walking distance of the Spanish Steps, the distinguished property hosted a steady stream of royals, nobles, politicians, celebrities, and sophisticated travelers as their preferred Roman Holiday headquarters for over a century. From 1960, after its stylish Bar Ninfa played a starring role in Federico Fellini cinema classic “La Dolce Vita,” the property took on a renewed allure as a symbol of Italy’s vibrant and seductive post-war prosperity.

The hotel will be refashioned into 83 spacious rooms and suites. Public amenities include three grand dining rooms with the main restaurant featuring an expansive terrace with sweeping views across Via Veneto, an intimate cocktail bar, an elegantly appointed rooftop bar, state-of-the-art meeting and conference spaces and a full-service spa and fitness facility. The redesign will retain the iconic property’s panache by architect Gaetano Koch, celebrated author of its widely admired “piano” profile, while introducing a crisp, contemporary style.

“We are proud to collaborate with the dynamic design team at Baccarat in redefining and repositioning a historic property with a contemporary flair that pays respectful tribute to the cultural and artistic heritage of an ancient yet modern imperial city,” said Boscalt Hospitality co-founder Liza Masias. “We look forward to the property’s transformation into an emblematic luxury hotel that resonates with and reflects the artistic, historical, and architectural treasures of Rome.”

Boscalt co-founder Jaume Tapies added, “It is incredibly exciting to be introducing, together with SH Hotels & Resorts, the Baccarat brand to the ultimate urban experience of Rome. As we celebrate the restoration and preservation of the Hotel Majestic’s iconic legacy as the preeminent hub of the fashionable Via Veneto, we’re proud to pay tribute to the remarkable resiliency of one of Europe’s most sought-after destinations. In the coming years, we expect that timeless allure to grow.”“

On completion, Baccarat Hotel Rome will elegantly showcase the exquisite refinement and edgy energy of a simultaneously timeless and trendy city, one as forever famed for the passionate pulse of its spirited nightlife as for being a source of endless inspiration for artists, musicians, political, spiritual and cultural leaders, past, present and future.

FlySafair adds 11 new destinations including Seychelles, Victoria Falls

FlySafair adds 11 new destinations including Seychelles, Victoria Falls

FlySafair adds 11 new destinations including Seychelles, Victoria Falls

October 11, 2022

FlySafair has received approval to operate flights to 11 new destinations within the southern African region, it announced on Monday.

The Air Services Licensing Council of South Africa has approved FlySafair’s application to operate flights from Cape Town and Johannesburg to Gaborone, Livingstone, Luanda, Lusaka, Maputo, and Victoria Falls.

In addition, the airline has been approved for frequencies from Johannesburg to Bulawayo, Nairobi and the Seychelles, as well as between Cape Town and Windhoek. Its application for routes between Johannesburg and Harare, Windhoek and Zanzibar, and additional frequencies to Mauritius are still pending.

FlySafair can now engage the relevant airport and civil aviation authorities in each market and begin planning its flight schedules.

“While this is a big milestone, there is still a fair amount of work ahead of us from an operational perspective,” says Kirby Gordon, chief marketing officer of FlySafair. “By launching a host of new services, we hope to provide passengers with more options for air travel at a competitive price.”

Since the beginning of the year, FlySafair has added four new aircraft to its current schedule with one more on the way in January. While the new capacity forms part of the airline’s long-term growth plans, the airline expects that the additional seats will help to stabilise domestic flight prices going into the busy holiday season.

Latam

LATAM to resume flights to Johannesburg

LATAM to resume flights to Johannesburg

LATAM to resume flights to Johannesburg

October 08, 2022

LATAM currently operates 212 international flights from its base in São Paulo Guarulhos, and the South African city will join the list of 20 international destinations the airline covers.

The airline stopped its commercial operations in South Africa following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the pandemic outbreak, LATAM was the only airline operating direct flights from South America to South Africa, which is about to resume.

LATAM Brazil’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Aline Mafra, told the press

“Johannesburg is another milestone in our international resumption movement, which is being carried out in a strategic way, expanding the offer where there is passenger demand. This flight will meet a corporate demand that has always been relevant between the countries, in addition to the potential tourism at the destination. A direct operation between the countries will undoubtedly be a differentiated product in the airline market.”

LATAM International Recovery

As of September 2022, LATAM had recovered about 72% of its operational capacity in the international market.

Johannesburg, South Africa, is not the only international destination the airline is recovering. LATAM will resume its direct flights to Boston in October 2022, bringing its international flight destinations to 21.

In the face of Covid-19 travel restrictions, the Latin American airline filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy after losing major cities it once covered across the globe.

Measuring the number of seats available as of September 2022, LATAM had recovered about 72% of its operational capacity in the international market.

Covering 20 (21 by the end of October) international destinations from the 26 they did before the COVID-19 pandemic is quite a wholesome recovery.

RIU Hotels Mexico and opens its third resort

October 10 2022 –

RIU Hotels & Resorts just inaugurated its third hotel in Costa Mujeres: the Riu Latino. The chain, which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary in Mexico this year, now has 21 hotels at the six most popular beach destinations in the country, as well as in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

RIU Hotels Mexico

The Riu Latino, a five-star establishment with 24-hour all-inclusive services, offers all guests the amenities and facilities of Riu Classic Hotels, but with the added value of the exclusive service for which the adults-only resorts are known. Until now, it was reserved only for Riu Palace hotels.

Among its 594 rooms, guests will be able to choose from standard double rooms to suites with views to the Caribbean Sea, as well as luxury swim-out rooms with private pools. The rooms will have a fresh, understated style with natural, light colours, inviting guests to disconnect and enjoy the tranquillity the destination has to offer.

As it is usually the case with RIU, there is a wide variety of culinary offerings at Riu Latino, prepared to indulge all palates. The hotel has a total of six restaurants: the main restaurant Moctezuma; an Italian restaurant Milan, an Asian restaurant called Geisha; a steak house offering up the best meat; a gourmet restaurant, Kulinarium; and Pepe’s Food, a grill buffet. It also has five bars: the lounge bar Mariachi, with a terrace; the lobby bar Velvet; a 24-hour sports bar; and our pool bars Tequila and Mezcal, the latter being a swim-up bar.

The outdoor space offers guests a total of five pools, in addition to Splash Water World Water Park. They can also unwind at the wellness centre Renova Spa, where guests have a beauty and hair salon as well as a massage service available to them.

Guests are also guaranteed to be entertained. Located on the beachfront of Bahía Mujeres, they will have the opportunity to go out on a catamaran, try kayaking and take a beginners’ scuba course in the pool. To round out the fun, club Pacha is open from 11:00 pm to 2:00 am, and guests can also revel in the various parties taking place at the hotel: Foam Fest, Silent Disco and Beach Party.

Starting in December, Riu Latino guests will also be able to enjoy the famous Riu Party events at Riu Dunamar. The Riu Get Together Party will be held in the hotel theatre every Friday, alternating between the White Party and Neon Party themes, so all guests in this destination can enjoy one of the chain’s star products.

With the opening of this new hotel, RIU is complementing its hotels in Costa Mujeres, joining Riu Palace Costa Mujeres and Riu Dunamar, both 3 kilometres from the new hotel. The Riu Latino is 16 kilometres from Cancun, where archaeology and history lovers can discover the wonders of Maya culture. The international airport is 33 kilometres away with great connections to get to the hotel. The Riu Latino will not be the chain’s last new hotel in Mexico this year, as the new Riu Palace Kukulkan is expected to open in November.

First six star hotel in east Taiwan set to debut at year end

October 10 2022 –

The first six-star hotel in eastern Taiwan, Le Meridien Hualien Resort, is set to launch by the end of the year and is now hiring to gear up for international tourists after a full border reopening.

Six star hotel in east Taiwan

The hotel in Hualien City started construction in 2017 and was initially slated to open in late 2018. However, the launch has been delayed three times for various reasons, including its cautious impact assessment of the COVID-19 outbreak on the travel and tourism sector.

It will be the design-focused international hotel brand’s second hotel in Taiwan after its debut. The hotel page can be found on the Marriott website.

Aside from 260 guest rooms, the building will be equipped with a shopping mall, a business center, a fitness center, an outdoor pool, an indoor hot spring facility, a spa center, some entertainment facilities, restaurants, wedding and banquet venues, and a massive parking space.

Media reported the hotel is posting wanted ads at the 104 job search network for a wide range of positions, including front desk operators, guest service agents, housekeepers, chefs, fitness coach, pool guard, security, and some management positions.

The hotel is said to be undergoing the final touches in some of its public areas and is expected to open by the end of the year. The upscale hotel is conveniently located just 600 meters away from Dongdamen Tourist Night Market and large parks are within walking distance.

Costa Cruise To Place Three Ships To South America In 2023-24

October 07, 2022 –

Beginning with the 2023–2024 winter season, Costa Cruises will have three ships operating out of South America.

Costa Cruise South America

A news release states that the six-month local programme will feature the Costa Diadema, the Costa Favolosa, and the Costa Fascinosa.

From November 2023 through May 2024, the ships will sail one of the company’s longest seasons in the area, providing a wide range of itineraries to Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina.

With more time and bigger ships, Costa will be able to increase its market share and exceed its capacity projections for the 2022-2023 season.

When looking at the development of the cruise industry in South America, it is impossible to separate the story of Costa from that of the whole region. They will have served the area for 75 years in March of 2023.

Costa Cruises’ Executive President for South and Central America, Dario Rustico, has said that the company’s recent years of record growth in customer preference can be credited to its robust and ambitious business strategy, which has always prioritised sustainable and lasting expansion.

One of the programme’s highlights is the return of the Costa Diadema for a second season in the region.

The ship will set sail from Santos, Rio de Janeiro, and Salvador and provide a variety of weekly trips to Bahia.

The Costa Diadema provides the Brazilian market with a new option for unforgettable cruise holidays.

Commercial Director for Costa Cruises in Brazil, Ruy Ribeiro, said passengers well received the ship during her inaugural season.

The city in the southern part of Brazil is the embarkation point for five-week cruises to Argentina and Uruguay aboard the Costa Fascinosa.

The Costa Favolosa will sail from Santos and Itajai (Brazil), providing a full complement of local cruise options with voyages ranging from three to seven nights.

The ship’s itinerary covers ports in Argentina and Uruguay and various ports in Brazil.

October 7, 2022 –  Fuji Speedway Hotel Debuts as The First Hotel in The Unbound Collection

announced today the opening of Fuji Speedway Hotel in Shizuoka, Japan, the first property within The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand in Japan, introducing the first of a planned compilation of one-of-a-kind, story-worthy hotels into the country. Flanked by the breathtaking vista of Mount Fuji and the adrenaline-fueled Fuji Speedway race circuit, the hotel—one of several attractions in the new Fuji Motorsports Forest project developed by the Toyota Group—will offer a truly distinctive experience where motorsports meet luxury hospitality.

Fuji Speedway Hotel setting

Set against the stunning backdrop of Mount Fuji, about 80 minutes by car from Tokyo, the hotel is adjacent to the historic Fuji Speedway motor racing circuit, which hosts world-class racing events, and offers a unique opportunity to fully experience the excitement of motorsports. The hotel also houses the Fuji Motor Sports Museum, which showcases about 40 story-worthy and era-defining racing cars dating from the end of the 19th century – an exclusive space where guests can learn and be immersed in the history and culture of this exciting sport.

Fuji Speedway Hotel features 120 stylish accommodations, including 21 spacious suites, all with private balconies offering breathtaking views of Fuji Speedway race circuit or Mount Fuji. They also include five dog-friendly villas that feature individual private garages with floor-to-ceiling windows on one side for proud owners to admire their vehicles while in residence. The interiors of all rooms are complemented by sophisticated finishes, from buttery leather to marble detailing, and the spa-like bathrooms include deep-soaking tubs.

Tomohide Yamamura, President of Toyota Fudosan, commented, “Fuji Speedway Hotel epitomizes the brand’s hallmark for worldly, unforgettable memories, and I believe it is the brand that best encapsulates the appeal of the Fuji Motorsports Forest. We hope this hotel will become a place loved by people all over Japan and across the world.”

Added David Udell, group president, Asia Pacific, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, “We are truly honored that Toyota Fudosan Co., Ltd., an affiliate of the Toyota Group, has chosen Hyatt and The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand as a key component of their Fuji Motorsports Forest project – the first hotel that Toyota has developed in collaboration with Hyatt. With the much-anticipated reopening of Japan’s borders, Fuji Speedway Hotel will provide overseas visitors and local residents with a memorable, one-of-a-kind experience, blending the excitement of motorsports and the luxury of a boutique hotel in the beautiful countryside.”

The hotel features two restaurants serving authentic local fare, a bar and an all-day dining lounge, all with stylish interiors celebrating the golden age of motorsports:

  • TROFEO, an all-day Italian trattoria-style eatery with outdoor terraces and private rooms, and a casual lobby lounge with breathtaking views of Mount Fuji.
  • Robata Oyama, offering an interactive Japanese dining experience where premium meat, fresh seafood, and seasonal vegetables are grilled to perfection at the central show kitchen.
  • Bar 4563, an atmospheric, speakeasy-style bar with an outdoor terrace; motor enthusiasts will enjoy identifying the many model cars that line its walls. Its menu includes crafted cocktails and a range of premium Japanese whiskeys.

Guests can also revitalize their mind, body and soul at Omika Wellness & Spa, a sanctuary dedicated to health and wellbeing that includes an indoor pool, a spa, indoor and outdoor hot spring onsens, and a spacious fitness center. In another nod to motorsports fans, the fitness center boasts a state-of-the-art driving simulator designed for professional race car drivers, but accessible for guests.

With its unique location adjacent to Fuji Speedway, inspiring interiors, and a diverse range of facilities, Fuji Speedway Hotel is an ideal choice for gatherings big or small, from a board meeting for eight, to a conference for up to 310 people. It offers two unique, pillar-less venues: a ballroom and function room with a show kitchen and VIP room, spanning over 5,597 square feet (520 square meters).

Nearby, guests can enjoy a wide range of natural attractions and outdoor activities. The main attraction is undoubtedly Mount Fuji, an UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Site that is home to sacred venues of artistic inspiration over the centuries. These include the Fuji Sengen-jinja shrines, the Shiraito-no-taki waterfalls, and the Fujigoko five lakes that surround the foot of the mountain. Also close by is Mishima Skywalk, Japan’s longest suspension footbridge, and an open-air premium outlet shopping mall.

IHG in Germany expands with signing of 10 new hotels

October 6, 2022 –

IHG in Germany starts with the Holiday Inn Express Leipzig South and Holiday Inn Express Hamburg South are the first two signings within this Multi-Development-Agreement

IHG® Hotels & Resorts, one of the world’s leading hospitality companies, today announces the signing of a Multi-Development-Agreement (MDA) with Solutions4Hotels GmbH (S4H), a commitment to develop 10 hotels of the Holiday Inn brand family with approximately 800 rooms in Germany. IHG and S4H have also signed Holiday Inn Express Leipzig South as part of the MDA.

IHG in Germany expands in Germany

The agreement is part of an extensive mixed-used development project in 10 locations which also includes the development of premium service stations and restaurants. Each site will feature a futuristic service station including electric charging, a petrol station with sustainable fuel solutions, a hotel, and a high-quality F&B offer. The building sites are conveniently located along Germany’s main motorways, all in close proximity to large cities.

Popular amongst owners, IHG’s Holiday Inn brand family was chosen as the ideal hotel concept for this nationwide project. Holiday Inn Express Leipzig South is the second signing within the MDA, following the signing of Holiday Inn Express Hamburg South in 2020.

Holiday Inn Express Leipzig South – an example of sustainable construction

As part of a modern and future-proof development concept, Holiday Inn Express Leipzig South will have a strong focus on sustainability which is already deeply ingrained in the construction plans of the building. All rooms are planned as a wooden modular built, and the hotel will run on geothermal heating and feature solar panels for energy production which will be fed back into the hotel’s circuit system.

The hotel is planned with 79 rooms and is expected to open towards the end of 2023. It will feature a modern breakfast area with complimentary breakfast, 24-hour reception, free WIFI, and a marketplace with snacks, drinks and other non-food items. Guest can also make use of a communal co-working space located within the building.

Holiday Inn Express Hamburg South

The Holiday Inn Express Hamburg South signing in 2020 was the first signing with S4H, a new Franchise partner for IHG. The hotel will offer 80 rooms and guest can expect the same facilities and amenities – complimentary breakfast, free WIFI, 24-hour reception, marketplace – as at its new sister hotel in Leipzig. Already in construction, the hotel is expected to open by summer 2023.

(Mrs) Willemijn Geels, VP Development Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts, commented, “This is an exciting project for us, especially if we consider the sustainability aspect. At IHG Hotels & Resorts, we are committed to help shape the future of responsible travel together with those who stay, work and partner with us. This commitment as part of our 10-year responsible business plan, Journey to Tomorrow, also extends to the way we build new hotels, and the Holiday Inn Express Leipzig South is a great example of sustainable construction. We know that S4H and their development partner share this passion, and we look forward to working together on the many new projects that are yet to come.”

(Mr) Rainer Werdel, Managing Director at Solutions4Hotels GmbH added, “We are delighted that we could win IHG Hotels & Resorts as hotel partner for this project. The idea to expand our partnership to 10 locations in Germany was born following the signing of Holiday Inn Express Hamburg South. We believe that with IHG’s market expertise, international name recognition and a shared commitment to responsible travel, we can set ourselves up for long-term success.”

IHG has 91* hotels in Germany, of which 79 belong to the Holiday Inn brand family. The company has 25* hotels in the pipeline in Germany.

Bergamo Brescia Italian capital of culture 2023

October 05, 2022 –

The Italian Capital of Culture initiative launched in 2014 promotes the appreciation of Italian cultural heritage with projects and activities. For first time, two cities have come together as the Italian Capital of Culture in acknowledgement of the cultural vibrancy that emerged during the pandemic.

Capital of culture 2023

This extraordinary project is supported by leading Italian companies – Intesa Sanpaolo and A2A as Main Partners, Brembo as System Partner – and institutional partners such as the Italian Culture Ministry and the Fondazione Cariplo.
Changing a territory through culture. The Bergamo and Brescia initiative will kick off a wide-ranging project to tackle contemporary challenges focused on culture, sustainability, enhancement of the artist heritage, welfare and innovation. Italian Capital of Culture 2023 has a packed programme of 100 major projects and another 500 initiatives, the work of many organisations through a network of joint planning.

It begins with a magnificent inaugural ceremony on the 21st and 22nd of January, 2023 and continues all year with events linked to music, theatre, art and much more. The Festival of Lights will get the ball rolling: Brescia (10-19 February) and Bergamo (17-26 February) will become open-air art galleries, featuring prestigious national and international artists.

The campaign to draw in an international public will unveil an unexpected face of Italy, breaking out of the “information bubble”: Bergamo and Brescia are less well-known destinations than the main Italian cities popular with foreign visitors but art, centuries-old tradition, innovation, majestic natural landscapes, historical monuments, food, wine and much more can all be found there.

“Bergamo and Brescia Italian Capital of Culture 2023,” said Bergamo’s Mayor, Giorgio Gori, “is a joint approach to the challenge our two cities wanted to tackle at a historic time of great change. Culture, as well as being an essential lever for attracting tourism, is vital for the improvement of the life of our communities.”

Brescia’s Mayor, Emilio Del Bono, commented: “As Italian Capital of Culture 2023, Bergamo and Brescia are renewing their production system and cultural offer at all levels, cooperating with associations and businesses, preserving and augmenting the heritage, attracting tourists and creating new opportunities for development and training.”
