Radisson Blu Cluj opens as first five-star hotel in Transylvania

July 12, 2022 –

Radisson Blu Cluj, based in Transylvania’s vibrant capital city of Cluj-Napoca, opens its doors as the city’s only five-star hotel, providing an unforgettable experience with spacious rooms, a unique dining concept, and ultra-modern meeting facilities.

Radisson Blu Cluj

Cluj-Napoca, Romania’s second largest city, is growing in popularity as a leisure and business destination and attracts visitors year-round with its artistic vibe, chic cafés in which to linger, peaceful green spaces, and cutting-edge festivals, including Untold, Romania’s biggest electronic-music festival with famous international DJs, held at Cluj Arena, directly across the street from the hotel.

Located in the central-western part of the city, Radisson Blu Hotel, Cluj offers contemporary elegance after an extensive, two-year long renovation and conversion of a 1980s hotel to a modern, upper-upscale Radisson Blu property. The architects and designers took inspiration for the new design concept from the location of the hotel and the surrounding nature, including the city’s Central Park, one of the oldest recreational public gardens in Europe, and the contemporary buildings in the local neighborhood.

The hotel’s 149 rooms feature large windows with stunning views of the city and the Central Park. Spacious family rooms include an additional sofa bed, while the suites offer the ultimate comfort. The largest suite is the 79-sqm Presidential Suite, which offers guests a separate living room, dining area, and a luxurious bathroom with an aromatherapy shower.

The modern Lobby Bar at Radisson Blu Hotel, Cluj is the perfect place to enjoy signature drinks, specialty coffee and snacks, or a quick business lunch. The Park, the hotel’s modern international restaurant, is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and offers a terrace for outdoor dining on warmer days. Hikari, the hotel’s Japanese restaurant is inspired by the “Land of the Rising Sun” and serves sushi, seafood, as well as Japanese spirits and wine in a setting inspired by nature, with views overlooking the adjacent Central Park from its floor-to-ceiling windows.

For meetings and events, the hotel includes five meeting rooms for up to 60 people, featuring the latest meeting technology. The private ballroom can host events with up to 300 attendees. Radisson Blu Hotel, Cluj has partnered with the adjacent BTarena, also known as Polyvalent Hall, to provide external meeting and events space for up to 10,000 people. A fitness room is also available with weight training and cardio equipment.

“We are excited to open the first Radisson Blu hotel in Transylvania in vibrant Cluj and are thrilled to welcome our first guests this summer. With our attention to detail and personalised service, each stay with us is sure to be a memorable experience”, says George Miu, General Manager.

With the health and safety of guests and team members as its top priority, Radisson Blu Hotel, Cluj is implementing the Radisson Hotels Safety Protocol program. The in-depth cleanliness and disinfection protocols were developed in partnership with SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, and are designed to ensure guest safety and peace of mind from check-in to check-out. The Safety Protocol is an integral part of Radisson Hotel Group’s Safety and Security program ensuring we always care for our guests and team members.

Hilton celebrates debut in the Galapagos Islands

July 07, 2022 –

Hilton has announced the opening of the extraordinary Royal Palm Galapagos, Curio Collection by Hilton, a boutique estate with 21 villas and deluxe rooms brimming with the charm of an Ecuadorian Hacienda. Secluded on a 160-hectare estate in the lush Miconia Highland Forests adjacent to Galapagos National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Curio Collection by Hilton’s newest tranquil sanctuary is a haven for serenity and once-in-a-lifetime wildlife encounters.

Galapagos Islands

“Debuting in a destination that organically welcomes travelers to connect with nature, dream and discover, this momentous opening marks the first international hotel brand in the Galapagos Islands, while making Ecuador the Curio Collection by Hilton brand’s 30th country to welcome travelers to its growing portfolio,” said Jenna Hackett, global brand head, Curio and Tapestry Collections by Hilton. “With more than 115 unique hotels and resorts around the world, Curio Collection by Hilton properties provide authentic and curated experiences that are both distinctive and draw inspiration from their local communities. Royal Palm Galapagos brings that vision to life, and we look forward to welcoming travelers to this truly one-of-a-kind hotel.”

Nestled amid jaw-dropping panorama and unspoiled vegetation on the ethereal Galápagos Islands, located roughly 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, Royal Palm Galapagos, Curio Collection by Hilton is designed to respectfully maximise guests’ interactions with the remote and eco-sensitive destination. Sheltered within a valley between two extinct cinder cone volcanoes, the hotel features nine areas of geological interest from craters to lava tunnels and features newly enhanced accommodations, a reception area, restaurants, and a gym. By the end of 2022, guests can expect a new spa and by mid-2023, the hotel plans to introduce a refreshed pool.

Accommodations
The hotel’s 21 villas and deluxe rooms dot the verdant landscape and are adorned with local textiles, earth-toned fixtures and artistic touches, and offer contemporary casual elegance inspired by the natural preserve of the beloved enchanted islands.

King Suite

The eight deluxe rooms have spacious bedrooms, dining areas and front porches or terraces to bask in the expansive garden and nature reserve vistas. Similarly, the eight villas feature a bedroom, bathroom, jacuzzi room, living/dining room and open fireplaces to relish in the scenic views across the estate and Santa Cruz Island. The executive villas are secluded cottages with a private garden, indoor sauna, living room and dining area with an open fireplace. The largest suite on the property is named in honor of British royals and boasts extreme privacy including two bedrooms, a sauna, private garden areas, an open fireplace, a dining area and more.

For an extra immersive experience, guests can camp at the crossroads of comfort and unspoiled wilderness amidst pristine nature. With three different camping sites, the hotel offers a way to see the diversity of the Galapagos Islands with its overnight camping program.

Dining
The gastronomic experience is the heartbeat of the estate with cuisine largely based on fresh products coming from the Highlands of the Galapagos. Royal Palm Galapagos, Curio Collection by Hilton offers a distinct dining experience featuring island-sourced ingredients, from vegetables and fruits from local producers to grass-fed meat products and sustainably harvested seafood. The hotel’s food and beverage offerings are helmed by two extraordinary sous chefs born and raised in the Galapagos, Patricio Sisa and Rommel Chalen, who bring their vast experience, passion and enjoyment of their local traditions, including traditional Ecuadorian and international flavors to their always evolving menu while transforming the customs of the Galapagos into culinary adventures.

Royal Palm Galapagos, Curio Collection by Hilton Lava Tunnel Dining

The hotel is home to the destination’s only fine dining restaurant inside a lava tunnel located nearly 60 feet underground. Opening this year, this new culinary journey begins at Muttini, a 30-year-old building decorated with cannons and anchors, with a guided tour through the lava tunnel and finishes at the volcanic vault with a six-course dinner inspired by the homegrown culture and ingredients.

The Royal Palm Restaurant serves delicious international and local cuisine featuring a variety of Galapaguenian recipes with fresh ingredients from its house farm and catch of the day. The 50-seat restaurant combines elegant colonial style and traditional island design with warm mahogany furniture that reflects the glow of the open fire and on warmer nights, guests are encouraged to dine alfresco on the terrace under the equatorial stars. The wine cellar reflects the eclectic nature of the menu and includes an extensive range of some of South America’s best wines.

Amenities + Experiences
Home to one of the last remaining natural island ecosystems in the world, the Galapagos Islands are treasured for being the world’s foremost destination for wildlife exploration and encounters. Both adventurous travelers, as well as those looking for a tranquil, eco-conscious hideaway, can fill their days with an abundance of excursions. From catching the first glimpse of a Galapagos giant tortoise in its natural habitat as they roam freely in the National Park to snorkeling among the volcanic crevices filled with crystal-clear emerald water, the experiences designed by the hotel will leave guests in wonderment of the islands.

Beyond the islands’ world-renowned voyages, guests have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to conserve the endangered species that reside on the property such as the Galapagos Crake, Galapagos Short Eared Owl, Scalesia pedunculata, Robesonian Miconia and more. Those looking to recharge can delight at the estate’s idyllic picturesque pool, newly renovated fitness center, and be fascinated by the natural wonders of the Galapagos while enjoying the highest level of services provided within the unspoiled location of the hotel. By year-end, the hotel plans to introduce a new spa that will boast an exclusive relaxation and massage area in the lava tunnel as well as two treatment rooms and rejuvenating treatments designed with the utmost sustainable practices and methods.

Royal Palm Galapagos, Curio Collection by Hilton is the perfect destination for the traveler dreaming of their next getaway. For travelers looking for a little more than a vacation, Curio Collection by Hilton’s newest hotel offers the “Live Life” sabbatical experience*. Over the course of 30 days, guests are invited to reconnect with nature and discover the wonders of the Galapagos on a uniquely immersive journey. Available now through December 31, 2022, for US$25,000, guests can embark on an unforgettable life-changing adventure where they can choose one weekly experience that connects them to the environment, while also enjoying hotel amenities and surroundings. Whether they spend their day snorkeling at Las Grietas, bird watching, exploring the destination’s ecological reserves, planting a tree or meditating, the options are endless, and the memories guaranteed.

Environmental wellbeing is at the epicenter of the hotel’s ethos and comes to life as a hideaway for a Galapagos expedition. As the only hotel with a Miconia and Scalesia Reforestation Program, the fully immersive ecological promise breathes and lives within the walls of the property as seen through its Rain Harvesting program helping to ensure the destination remains resilient for generations of travelers to come. Taking sustainability to an elevated experience, the hotel’s environmental programs include its water reduction system where it reuses the water from rain and recycles almost 90 percent of its residues, a Plant-a-Tree Program, and an on-site produce farm utilised by the restaurants.

“We are proud to be the first international hotel brand to debut in this remarkable location known for its unique wildlife and biodiversity. With destination stewardship at the center of our Travel with Purpose ESG strategy, we are committed to minimising the impact of our operations and protecting this incredible community. Sustainability is at the heart of the hotel, so we are thrilled to offer guests a thoughtfully immersive, once-in-a-lifetime experience in this special destination,” said Erica Gordon, senior vice president, global head of public affairs and ESG, and president of the Hilton Global Foundation.

The Hilton Global Foundation, the company’s global philanthropic arm that seeks to advance Hilton’s Travel with Purpose goals, has been engaged in projects across the region such as partnering with The Nature Conservancy to protect native Ecuador fish species and Galapagos Conservancy to feed and protect the critically endangered Floreana Giant Tortoise.

Royal Palm Galapagos, Curio Collection by Hilton participates in Hilton Honors, the award-winning guest loyalty program for Hilton’s 18 distinct hotel brands. Members who book directly have access to instant benefits, including a flexible payment slider that allows members to choose nearly any combination of Points and money to book a stay, exclusive member discounts, free standard Wi-Fi and access to the Hilton Honors mobile app.

Sandals opens bookings for new resort in Jamaica

July 06, 2022 –

Eager to extend a warm welcome home to the wholly reconceptualized and fully renovated Sandals Dunn’s River, Sandals Resorts International (SRI) announced today that reservations are now open for arrivals beginning May 24, 2023.

new resort in Jamaica

The resort company unveils today what’s next for the treasured resort as it makes its long-wished-for return to the Sandals portfolio – from first-of-its-kind suite designs, to exclusive restaurant concepts and bars, to entirely new ways to experience Jamaica’s natural wonders. Beloved by couples since its initial addition to the all-inclusive resort company’s portfolio in 1991, Sandals Dunn’s River will return as a brand new resort, reclaiming its edge as the pinnacle of Sandals luxury.

new resort in Jamaica The all-new 260-room Sandals Dunn’s River is undergoing a thoughtful, top-to-bottom restoration – designed to embrace the essence of Jamaica, its curving rivers, lush forests, and majestic banyan trees – with amenities, accommodations and culinary concepts brought forward by the brand’s uncompromising quest for innovation.

“Today is marked with very special intention, as we accept reservations for Sandals Dunn’s River in honor of our founder and my late father, Gordon “Butch” Stewart’s birthday – just a small homage to him that we know will make him smile,” said Adam Stewart, Executive Chairman of SRI.

“This was an extraordinary project and the last I worked on with him as his final masterpiece. He handpicked this location more than three decades ago for its white-sand coastline, cool breeze, azure waters and its close proximity to the destination’s archetypical falls. It will not only serve to breathe new excitement into a corner of Jamaica loved and cherished by so many, but it will set a new standard of luxury for tourism right here in our backyard with a next-generation resort worthy of its nostalgic past.”

A first look into the expanded suite concepts reveals the addition of brand new Tufa SkyPool Butler Suites, which will feature glass panels spanning the length of oceanfront balconies, for a cascading infinity effect clear to the Caribbean Sea. At the Coyaba Swim-Up Rondoval Butler Suites with Private Pools, Sandals’ iconic, standalone villas are reimagined with vast open-air rooftops featuring private soaking tubs, sun-lounging areas and privileged views of the surrounding flora. Luxurious Mammee Bay Beachfront Butler Suites® will be equipped with spacious balconies directly overlooking the ocean waters, with gold fixtures and green accents speckled throughout the resort’s various unique accommodations for a nature-meets-luxury effect that immerses guests in the setting’s unequivocal beauty.

More on the Menu
Culinary offerings at Sandals Dunn’s River will now include 12 Global Gourmet™ restaurants – with ten concepts entirely new to Sandals. Infused with the classic cooking techniques found in the finest establishments in France, L’Amande will serve an exquisite mélange of French delicacy and Jamaican fare in a chic setting. A Greek concept, Edessa, is where the Caribbean and Aegean seas will meet, elegantly named for the ancient city of abundant waters. From Thailand to Japan, the Asian-fusion menu at Banyu will offer a blend of cultures all in a single dish. Beloved staples, old and new, will satisfy cravings and please palates – from the Central and South American flavors at Zuka, debuted first at Sandals Royal Curaçao, to the rustic yet soulful Jerk Shack and its traditional sweet and peppery delights.

High spirits will long live at nine bars, each with a distinct identity – including the hip and sophisticated Dunn’s Rum Club, where the island’s signature libation will be shaken and stirred into authentic Jamaican craft cocktails expertly mixed with locally-sourced ingredients like coconut and sorrel-smoked rum. A first-of-its-kind experience, guests will enjoy an expertly curated list of smooth rums while trying their hand at a game of Jamaican-rules dominoes, where the best out of six wins. The Laughing Waters beach bar will offer bed-style seating for a truly effervescent experience right on the sand, with a jovial name and sparkling champagne cocktails to match. A ‘Sandals First’ in Jamaica, the rooftop bar, Ocarina, will pair spirits with the gentle sea breeze, while the chic Lapidus Lounge pays homage to renowned architect Morris Lapidus who designed the resort when it was first built as the Arawak Hotel in the 1950s.

Inspired by Jamaica’s quintessential Blue Mountains, where the beans are harvested and roasted exclusively for the resort, guests can experience a fresh cup of pour-over coffee at BLUM café, along with Japanese-style and nitro cold brew best enjoyed with island inspired treats.

Where the Fresh Water Flows
Cascading waters collected from the depths of the Dunn’s River Falls will greet guests upon arrival, with all water features sourced from the natural reserves of the rivers throughout the resort. Jamaica’s largest pool – designed to mimic the flow of the river – makes its way back into the Sandals Resorts fold. Featuring a glass panel edge, the pool will be brilliantly leveled to the sand for a water-meets-sand-meets-ocean effect, and is one of five refreshing pools from where to bask under the warm Jamaican sun.

The Red Lane® Spa at Sandals Dunn’s River will debut as one of the most luxurious for the brand, speaking to the heart of Jamaica, the land of wood and water, with the sound of flowing water from Dunn’s River and Roaring Waters River cascading into the spa’s pools against an ethereal backdrop that is ever present.

Moments away, at one of Jamaica’s natural wonders – the honored Dunn’s River Falls – guests will absorb the natural abundance of the Earth and experience a place where love flows naturally, forming natural connections and bringing the Sandals Dunn’s River experience full circle.

new resort in Jamaica “Ocho Rios is the place where my father grew up, where he first learned to fish and felt the breeze blow along the West-facing beach and where he first saw the pure joy of the island on the faces of visitors,” said Stewart. “Here along Jamaica’s North Coast, he witnessed a blossoming tourism industry and became aware of how to please and serve a new Caribbean customer. Every touchpoint at the new Sandals Dunn’s River is designed to do that and more.”

Fly Straight in and Experience All of Ocho Rios
Guests can get to know the other corners of Jamaica through the brand’s “Stay at One, Play at All Sandals” exchange program and check out additional Sandals Resorts in the area with complimentary transfers between resorts in Ocho Rios. To enjoy even more time in paradise, travelers can land right in Ocho Rios with American Airlines’ brand-new service from Miami on flight AA4007 with faster and more convenient processing times, shorter lines, and private transfers before and after their vacation.

Vietnam resort Radisson signs new upscale propety

July 05, 2022 –

Radisson Hotel Group continues to expand its portfolio in Vietnam with the signing of a brand-new upscale resort in Mui Ne, the popular beachside destination on the country’s stunning, sun-soaked southeast coast, just a short drive from Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam resort Radisson

Scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2023, Radisson Resort Mui Ne is nestled on Suoi Nuoc Beach, one of the area’s most outstanding stretches of seafront, with direct access to the soft sand and sparkling sea. Unlike many other beaches along the coastline, this pristine paradise is perfect for swimming, so guests can stroll, splash and soak up the tropical sun throughout the day.

The hotel will feature 128 contemporary rooms and suites, all equipped with comfortable bedding, refreshing bathrooms and modern amenities. Options range from stylish 32sqm Standard Rooms to spacious 45sqm Superior Rooms, and guests seeking a luxurious vacation can opt for the 108sqm Villas, which are nestled amid landscaped gardens and palm trees, just steps from the shore.

During their stay, guests can plunge into the sparkling outdoor pool, work out in the fitness center, or soothe their senses at the spa, while the kid’s club and games area will entertain the young ones. The resort will also feature a vibrant all-day dining restaurant, a café to grab light refreshments throughout the day, and the Sunset Bar that provides the perfect setting for delightful cocktails at the end of the day and into the night.

Radisson Resort Mui Ne is also set to become an attractive option for event planners, with a 260sqm conference room and a 160sqm multi-purpose room catering for corporate meetings and social events, while the pristine beach creates an enchanting setting for weddings.

“Mui Ne has always been a popular destination for Vietnamese travelers, and we are excited to partner with Radisson Hotel Group to introduce the Radisson brand to the region. We expect Radisson Resort Mui Ne to command a strong mix of domestic and international guests, including leisure and corporate travelers, enabled by Radisson’s strong global network,” said Ms. Nguyen Mai Ngoc, Chairwoman, Truong Hai Services and Tourism LLC.

Overlooking the ocean in Vietnam’s Binh Thuan province, Mui Ne was traditionally known as a quiet weekend destination, blessed with palm-lined sandy beaches and quaint fishing villages. Visitors can enjoy water sports such as kite surfing, paddle boarding and surfing, while the spectacular red and white sand dunes create extraordinary settings for activities such as quad biking and sand boarding. Just a short drive from Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam’s main international airport, this is a compelling destination for local and overseas visitors alike. With a new highway connecting to Phan Thiet scheduled to open by the end of 2022, Radisson Resort Mui Ne will soon become even more accessible.

Sindhorn Midtown Hotel Bangkok opens as the first Vignette Collection hotel in Asia

July 04, 2022 –

Sindhorn Midtown Hotel Bangkok has opened as the first Vignette Collection hotel in Asia. Vignette Collection is IHG’s newest Luxury & Lifestyle collection brand, delivering stays that are authentic, experiential and considerate. Located in the bustling city of Bangkok, the hotel’s location at Langsuan offers convenient access to prime districts such as Sukhumvit, Silom, Siam and Chidlom.

Sindhorn Midtown Hotel Bangkok

Khun Umaporn Vongpipun, General Manager, said, “It has truly been an honour to lead the transition from an independent hotel to become the first property under IHG’s Vignette Collection to open in Asia. I am proud of my exceptional team as we bring Sindhorn Midtown into a new era and watch our hotel’s personality shine through with the introduction of our new guest experiences, offering a sense of connection with the heritage of Bangkok.”

Vignette Collection hotels are unique in their own right; each has their own distinct outlook and story to tell. Yet, the hotels are connected by a shared vision that travel can benefit local people and places. Daily complimentary rituals at each property create a sense of anticipation and connection and meet a growing demand for more thoughtful travel experiences.

Sindhorn Midtown offers a one-of-a-kind stay, creating a sanctuary in the heart of Bangkok by infusing elements of the city into the guest experience. A complimentary Lao Khao shot is served with a mixed selection of pickled fruits between 5pm and 6pm daily at The Black Cat, bringing guests closer to the soul of Bangkok and setting them up for an evening of exploration. Younger guests can dial the Emergency Popsicle Line located on the hotel’s second floor to receive a complimentary iced treat, delivered promptly by a dedicated Popsicle Butler.

Designed by award-winning strategic design firm, Eight Inc., contemporary design, laidback elegance and the striking local art come together at Sindhorn Midtown. Punctuating the minimalist lobby space, an incredible textile masterpiece by Thai artist, Kachama Perez, epitomizes the hotel’s commitment to supporting Thai craftsmanship. Kachama acquired her advanced dying and weaving skills during time spent in the mountains of Northern Thailand with the Karen tribe. Shiny strands of recycled aluminum are woven between the indigo threads, depicting the negative human impacts on marine life and encouraging dialogue on ocean conservation.

Each of its 393 rooms feature large format bathroom amenities from Karl Lagerfeld and modern comforts such as Fritz Hansen’s iconic DropTM chairs. The Fitness Centre offers panoramic city views, as does the Horizon Pool, which is located on the 18th floor. Works by Fine Art Photographer, Visarute Angkatavanich, whose image of a Siamese fighting fish was launched on the iPhone 6s in 2015, can be found on every floor.

The hotel recently introduced three new eclectic dining offerings; The Black Cat is an atmospheric Thai Liquor bar, with live band playing on selected evenings. Inspired by the golden age of Thailand, Bangkok’78 presents the city’s greatest culinary hits in a retro-inspired concept, whilst Sip & Co. is a chic addition to Langsuan’s flourishing café culture.

Recognising the importance of ensuring quality education to the leaders of tomorrow, Sindhorn Midtown is proud to partner with the Kuvanant Foundation, which aims to provide educational opportunities for local students and those living with disabilities in rural areas of Thailand. Upon checking in, guests are encouraged to donate USD$1 to the foundation. The hotel will be providing internship opportunities for the foundation’s students to earn first-hand work experience and offers career opportunities as well as insights into the hospitality industry.

With over 6,000 hotels now opened around the globe, IHG Hotels & Resorts had recently unveiled the 6,000 Club, an exclusive collection of stunning new hotels across 17 diverse brands, including Sindhorn Midtown. These hotels will surprise select guests in the coming months with 6,000 IHG One Rewards points, as well as other perks and experiences.

Nestled in Amingiri Island in the North Malé Atoll, Hilton Maldives Amingiri is directly accessible from Velana International Airport via a scenic 20-minute premium speedboat ride. The resort features 109 expansive beach and overwater villas, each offering a private pool and enticing views of the surrounding turquoise lagoon. Embodying a harmony of Maldivian accents and contemporary touches, the villas invite an abundance of natural light through its floor-to-ceiling windows, enhancing a refreshing colour palette that mirrors the warm hues of the sea and sky.

Sindhorn Midtown Hotel Bangkok – opens as the 1st Vignette Collection hotel in Asia

Sindhorn Midtown Hotel Bangkok

Sindhorn Midtown Hotel Bangkok

July 1, 2022 – Sindhorn Midtown Hotel Bangkok by IHG Hotels & Resorts and Siam Sindhorn Co., Limited today crowned Sindhorn Midtown Hotel Bangkok as the first Vignette Collection hotel to open in Asia.

Sindhorn Midtown Hotel Bangkok

Vignette Collection hotels prioritise creating and cherishing a sense of place. With this in mind, local design studio, P49 Deesign utilised the story of the Bangkok Tram to enhance the design of the hotel’s lobby area. From the 1920’s until 1968, the Silom line would pass Ratchadamri Road – just moments from Sindhorn Midtown – before terminating at Pratunam intersection. Dark metal symbolised tram tracks that previously ran by the hotel, and is applied to the front desk at the hotel lobby by P49 Deesign.

From 1 July to 30 November 2022, room rates start from THB4,060++ per room per night, and is inclusive of breakfast at Bangkok’78 and THB1,000 credits to be used in any of the hotel’s bars and restaurants.

Serengeti lodge

Refurbished Serengeti lodge offers opportunities to explore Western Corridor

Serengeti lodge

Refurbished Serengeti lodge offers opportunities to explore Western Corridor

June 28, 2022 –

Situated in the Serengeti’s remote Western Corridor, &Beyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge, which has reopened after a comprehensive rebuild, offers even more ways to explore this scenic region and its rich wildlife.

Serengeti lodge

With interior design by Fox Browne Creative and architectural design by Jack Alexander, the Serengeti lodge’s new look has redefined the traditional concept in a manner that is luxurious and contemporary while retaining the rustic and tactile nature of the original camp. Drawing inspiration from the natural setting, the sweeping arc of the guest areas follows the contours of the nearby Grumeti River, creating a natural flow of sitting and dining areas. More than doubled in size, guest Suites feature raised ceilings and taller doors, while canvas, banana fibre and hardwood cladding add a layer of richness. Guest Suites now feature deep baths and indoor showers, as well as outdoor decks with private plunge pools.

“Not only has the rebuild given &Beyond Grumeti a brand new look but our team has also been hard at work developing a selection of experiences that provide guests with even more choice about how to enjoy the lodge and its magnificent setting,” says Niall Anderson, &Beyond Chief Operating Officer Africa Lodges.

While morning and afternoon game drives are a safari staple and a hot air balloon experience can be arranged at an additional cost, the new nature walk option provides yet another perspective from which to explore the vast landscapes of the Serengeti. While guests have always been able to choose between an all-day safari or twice-daily game drives, guests can now spend their afternoon traversing the unique wilderness on a nature walk instead.

In addition to the wildlife viewing adventures, guests can also choose to embark on a cultural visit to the nearby Lukungu community or even drive to the shores of Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake, where they will get a firsthand glimpse of the traditional communities for whom fishing this vast expanse of water is a way of life.

Travellers who prefer to spend more time enjoying the comfort of the lodge and its spectacular setting overlooking an offshoot of the Grumeti River are also spoiled for choice. With daily yoga classes now available, guests can unwind, stretch and strengthen their body with help from an expert instructor while drinking in the serenity of setting. The addition of a bathtub means that guests can now also enjoy a relaxing post-workout soak, all while keeping an eye on the daily happening of the bush through floor-to-ceiling windows that look out onto the river.

The lodge’s extended guest areas are also designed to provide more spaces for travellers to either interact with each other or enjoy the tranquillity of the lodge, as their mood dictates. A brand new cocktail bar is the ideal place for sharing stories over pre-dinner drinks, while a series of sitting and dining areas allows for plenty of both private and communal dining options.

Seasonally designed menus will ensure locally sourced ingredients and wholesome meals, with vibrant colours and flavours that reflect the region. Much-loved breakfast trays, with freshly-squeezed juices and house-baked breads, will remain in play, with the interactive kitchen providing delicious breakfast specials on order. À la carte lunches will cater for all preferences and appetites, with both large and small plates available, while dinner experiences include the traditional boma, the dining room, bush dinners beneath the stars, plus private room dinners.

The addition of an inter-leading Family Suite now makes &Beyond Grumeti the ideal family safari option, and the lodge’s WILDchild programme offers plenty to keep young guests busy, from age-appropriate safari activities to nature walks, volleyball and pizza-making in the lodge’s boma.

“With the additions made to both the lodge itself and the selection of activities that are on offer, our lodge team is eager to once again delight guests, secure in the knowledge that they will be getting the most exclusive and varied safari experience in the Western Serengeti,” concludes Anderson.

“We are delighted to continue building on our relationship with the Millat Group and add Park Hyatt Johannesburg to Hyatt’s growing collection of luxury properties throughout the African continent,” said Ludwig Bouldoukian, Regional Vice President Development Middle East Africa for Hyatt International. “Park Hyatt hotels are found in the world’s most premier destinations and this development in Rosebank demonstrates a commitment to catering to both domestic and international high-end travelers who are looking for an oasis of calm and refinement, highly attentive personal service and elevated experiences in an intimate environment, while still enjoying the vibrancy of Johannesburg.”

The refurbishment of the hotel will be overseen by Yabu Pushelberg, an award-winning global designer that has previously worked on hotels such as Park Hyatt New York, Park Hyatt Shenzhen, and Park Hyatt Bangkok, as well as some of the world’s leading luxury brands, including Bergdorf Goodman and LVMH. Yabu Pushelberg’s thoughtful and rigorous approach to design will revitalise the hotel while celebrating the heritage and craftsmanship of its locale. Highly curated interiors and contemporary architecture will combine indoor and outdoor elements, inviting guests to lose themselves in a romantic and layered experience rooted in the surrounding landscape.

Once the hotel joins the Park Hyatt brand, it is expected to be popular with business and leisure guests alike, offering understated luxury and an elevated home away from home experience with highly personalised, intuitive, and fully engaged service; renowned art and design; a profound reverence for culture; and exceptional food and wine. The hotel’s highly convenient location in Rosebank is within walking distance of the area’s lively bars, popular restaurants, and notable galleries. Guests can enjoy easy access to Rosebank Gautrain Station, as well as thriving shopping and entertainment attractions, including The Zone and Rosebank Mall.

All 30 guestrooms and suites will be fitted with king size beds, professionally equipped workstations, and en-suite bathrooms. The hotel’s restaurant will include a spacious dining room and an outdoor terrace for refined, al-fresco dining, overlooking its picturesque swimming pool. The hotel will also feature an atmospheric bar with an open-air courtyard, as well as a stylish multi-purpose event space for conferences and meetings, accommodating up to 60 guests.

Once completed, the refurbishment will complement the world-class sophistication and understated elegance for which the Park Hyatt brand is known. Guests can expect personalised, considered experiences and high-end service that will exceed their expectations of a luxury stay in Johannesburg.

“We are excited to work with Hyatt again. The plans for Park Hyatt Johannesburg represent an incredibly exciting addition to our hotel portfolio,” said Hamza Farooqui, the Millat Group’s CEO. “We have seen a considerable uptake in domestic and international travel, from both a leisure and a business travel perspective. Hyatt and Millat’s proven understanding of luxury travel will ensure that the renovated hotel offers a world-class product and service never before seen in South Africa.”

This marks the fourth collaboration between Hyatt and the Millat Group in South Africa, joining Hyatt Regency Cape Town, Hyatt House Johannesburg Sandton, and Hyatt House Johannesburg Rosebank.

Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Athens

Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Athens

June 27, 2022 –  Hard Rock International Commences Partnership with GEK TERNA Group to Create a Luxury Resort and Casino in the Heart of the Athens Riviera

The renowned brands kicked off the partnership with a special event in Athens, the home of the luxury resort, casino and entertainment venue set to open in 2026

Hard Rock International and GEK TERNA Group held a special event in Athens yesterday signaling the official start of their partnership for the construction and operation of an integrated resort and casino, located in the iconic area of the Athens Riviera, within the context of “The Ellinikon” development. Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Athens, which is set to open in 2026, will be a unique destination in Europe combining a five-star luxury hotel, a world class gaming floor, a premier meeting and convention space, a state-of-the-art entertainment venue, internationally renowned food and beverage, luxurious Rock® Spa and Pool Complex, and a high-end retail promenade.

Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Athens

“We are thrilled to announce the partnership with GEK TERNA Group and further expand Hard Rock’s reach across the globe in the great City of Athens,” said Jim Allen, Hard Rock International Chairman. “This development will bring over 3,000 permanent jobs to the people of Greece and we look forward to bring our unique brand of entertainment and provide an unparalleled experience for guests of all ages.”

“Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Athens will create a premium tourism spot, expected to offer employment to thousands of people, yield significant revenues to the public sector, and add value to Greece’s brand” said George Peristeris, Chairman and CEO of GEK TERNA Group. “Along with Hard Rock we are realizing a private investment of over 1 billion euros, reaffirming our trust in Greece’s prospects and potential.”

The design of Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Athens draws its inspiration from basic Greek elements such as the sea, the arts and ancient mythology, which it combines with the modern requirements of architecture and the inescapable need for harmonious integration of the project in its environment and location. Open spaces, gardens and water features are key elements of the project’s design, with total green open space covering close to 205,000 m2.

The central Tower draws its inspiration from nautical references, incorporating in its design the waves, the sails and the lighthouse. Built on three levels, the Tower has three different orientations corresponding to the reference points located within the imaginary triangle that is formed around the project: the Acropolis, the sea and Mount Hymettus. Its iconic shape will serve as a symbol of the region and reference the importance of the connection between land, sea and sky.

Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Athens will be an international destination, offering its visitors an exciting mix of entertainment, food and beverage and accommodations, embracing the Mediterranean climate and providing special outdoor spaces.

The development brings a vibrant casino of just under 15,000 m2, comprising of 200 tables and 2,000 gaming machines. The Tower consists of more than 1,000 guest rooms and suites, totaling almost 3,500 beds overlooking the waterfront or views across Athens to the Parthenon. The project also includes the highest outdoor rooftop terrace in Athens, with a rooftop pool deck that consists of Bars, the Rock® Spa and Body Rock Fitness, celebrating the year-around sunshine and pleasant temperatures with indoor-outdoor connections.

The Hard Rock Live’s theater is designed to entertain audiences of 3,000, while the stage extends to the exterior for outdoor festivals and concerts with an additional 7,500 seats. Inspired by the ancient Greek amphitheater, the outdoor lawn is bringing together culture and entertainment, harmonically bridging the Hard Rock brand with the Greek lifestyle.

An outdoor village with a variety of retail, high-end local and international restaurants, dinning terraces and bar and lounge spaces encompasses the casino, while the conference and exhibition center which exceed 23,000 m2, provide a large expo hall, ball rooms, meeting areas and support spaces.

The 30-year concession is a partnership between Hard Rock International (51%) and GEK TERNA Group (49%), with the latter being also responsible for the entire construction of the project, which is expected to begin within the first months of 2023 and last close to 3 years, setting the opening of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Athens in 2026.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Athens is the newest addition to Hard Rock International’s extensive portfolio with venues in over 70 countries spanning 265 locations that include owned/licensed or managed Hotels, Casinos, Rock Shops®, Live Performance Venues and Cafes.

Hilton Nottingham

Hilton Nottingham announces completion of refurb 2022

Hilton Nottingham

Hilton Nottingham announces completion of refurb

June 24, 2022 –

Hilton Nottingham is placing the finishing touches on a £6.5 million hotel transformation project, which includes the redesign and comprehensive refurbishment of 176 guest rooms, including bathrooms, corridors, noise insulation, installation of air-conditioning throughout and reviewed layouts in the bedrooms. This compliments the lobby which was completed during the pandemic.

Hilton Nottingham

Sue Cave, general manager, Hilton Nottingham, said, “We are thrilled to present this stunning and modernised hotel to our guests. I feel honoured to have been a part of this amazing renovation project and thank all our local residents, team, and customers for their patience throughout. It has certainly been worth the wait and we look forward to welcoming guests to experience this brand new offering and continuing to deliver our signature, first class hospitality at Hilton Nottingham”

During the renovation process, the team at Hilton Nottingham have enjoyed finding out more about the history of the hotel with the help of local historian, Janine Tanner. Hilton Nottingham was originally built on the site next to the old Nottingham Victoria Station which opened in 1900. Once the railway station was nearing completion, a meeting was held in July 1899 between the Nottingham Joint Station Committee and Sir John Blundell Maple Bart MP in which an agreement was signed for the Maple company to build a hotel attached to the as-yet unnamed station. The hotel opened in 1903, three years after the Victoria Station was completed, and as the station now had an official name, naturally the hotel would follow suit, and proudly bore the name ‘Victoria Station Hotel’. Sometime during the latter part of the Victoria Station’s life (after 1950) the word ‘station’ was dropped from the hotel’s name, and it became the ‘Victoria Hotel’.

After the station had been demolished in 1967, the Victoria Hotel opened a railway-themed pub in the basement, called the ‘Whistle Stop’. Seating in the Platform Bar was made up of an array of luggage trollies and milk churns, and the room was adorned with railway posters. There was also the Waiting Room Bar and buffet, and the Carriage Bar.

In honour of the site’s rich history, Hilton Nottingham has embraced this theme throughout the hotel, featuring bespoke Nottingham City artwork throughout the newly renovated guest rooms.

Hilton Nottingham is located in the heart of the city, next to the Victoria Centre. The hotel is in a family- friendly location with many attractions within walking distance, including Theatre Royal, Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham Castle, Old Market Square, and Motorpoint Arena. Wollaton Hall is a 15-minute drive away, and the hotel is just 40 minutes from Sherwood Forest.

Hilton Nottingham provides a complement of services and brand amenities, including 176 refurbished guest rooms, indoor pool, gym and sauna, seven flexible meeting & events rooms for up to 200 guests, Bric Bar & Kitchen with outdoor terrace, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, 24-hour room service, free Wi-Fi in all public areas and in bedrooms for Hilton Honors members.

Scandic Spectrum Copenhagen opens – 632 rooms

Scandic Spectrum Copenhagen

Scandic Spectrum Copenhagen

June 24, 2022- Scandic’s largest hotel to date opens in Copenhagen – Nordic spa and chef from Michelin-starred restaurant

Scandic Spectrum Copenhagen is now open, a lively new hotel in the capital of Denmark. The hotel is located in central Copenhagen and with 632 rooms, a spacious wellness area, two restaurants, a rooftop bar and large event spaces, it’s the company’s largest hotel yet. Scandic Spectrum will also host a variety of social events for guests and Copenhageners alike.

Scandic Spectrum Copenhagen

Located on the waterfront in central Copenhagen, Scandic Spectrum is Scandic’s 30th Danish hotel. The hotel offers modern facilities with a Nordic touch as well as sustainable culinary experiences in two restaurants and a topnotch spa in the large Nordic wellness area.

– As the name implies, Scandic Spectrum Copenhagen offers a wide variety of experiences. Our vision is to be a dynamic and welcoming hotel both inside and out. I’m extremely proud today to be opening this fantastic hotel with my 130-strong team. We can’t wait to welcome guests and locals to stay or just hang out with us and perhaps spend the day in our spa, sip a craft cocktail on the rooftop terrace or meet friends for a social dining experience, says Kirsten Glente Grindsted, General Manager at Scandic Spectrum.

Scandic Spectrum Copenhagen was designed by Dissing + Weitling, with Space Copenhagen responsible for the interiors inspired by the Nordic lifestyle and reference both nature and the historic industrial harbor nearby. This is evident in the choice of materials such as glass, concrete and steel while the natural beauty of the Nordics is present in the use of stone, wood and a muted palette and not least on the rooftop terrace and in two lush courtyards on the ground floor.

Scandic Spectrum aims to offer a new type of hotel experience where guests can enjoy a good night’s sleep as well as a variety of exciting experiences. For this reason, shared spaces such as the wellness area and event spaces are also open to the public. Additionally, Scandic Spectrum will host a number of events, including social dining, concerts and quiz nights open to guest and Copenhageners alike.

– As the largest hotel operator in the Nordics and based on many years’ experience running hotels, we see great potential in this new and different hotel. The hotel offers a wide range of experiences whether you’re on a weekend getaway in Copenhagen, looking for a unique conference venue or just want to enjoy our spa facilities or a social happening, says Søren Faerber, Head of Scandic Denmark.

Scandic Spectrum also offers a large wellness area inspired by the Nordic forests, fjords and mountains. Here, guests can enjoy the 25-meter pool, steam room, a Rasul thermal mud experience and a variety of spa treatments featuring natural and sustainable products.

The hotel also has nine conference rooms on the top floor, several of which have access to the rooftop terrace, and four event spaces that can accommodate more than 300 people.

Sustainability is an integral part of Scandic Spectrum’s DNA and the hotel is certified according to the Nordic Swan Ecolabel’s tough new requirements that include a special focus on climate impact. In practice, this means that Scandic Spectrum will focus on reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions, increase the use of ecolabeled cleaning products and serve more environmentally friendly food while reducing food waste. Sustainability also plays an important role at the hotel’s two restaurants, Ansvar and Nordbo, both of which focus on high quality organic ingredients from local suppliers.

– Sustainability has played an important role at Scandic since the start and as the largest hotel company in the Nordics, we also have a responsibility to constantly develop and set a good example for the entire industry. I’m proud that sustainability is integrated in all aspects of Scandic Spectrum, especially at our unique restaurants that demonstrate how we can be a part of the solution without compromising on quality, says Søren Faerber.

On the top floor at the Ansvar – Greenery Lab restaurant, Chef Martin Sørensen, who previously worked at Michelin star restaurant Noma, Copenhagen and Restaurant Amador, Germany, has created a plant-based dining experience that is based on organic, local ingredients and alternative proteins and features vegetables and herbs from the restaurant’s urban garden. With a focus on sustainability, even the drink menu is organic and the tableware is sourced from sustainable suppliers.

The other more relaxed and informal restaurant, Nordbo, which is located on the ground floor, is inspired by a Nordic lifestyle and focuses on “hygge”, warmth and fire. Nordbo serves seafood, pizza and pasta made from predominately local ingredients as well as its own charcuterie.

Following the opening of Scandic Spectrum, Scandic now operates 14 hotels in Greater Copenhagen with a total of 3,786 rooms.
