March 29, 2022 – Fairfield Marriott Japan –

Fairfield Marriott, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of 30 extraordinary brands, today announced the planned openings in 2022 of seven new Fairfield properties across four prefectures in Japan: Nara, Hokkaido, Hyogo, and Okayama. Together with these seven planned openings, the Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki project is expected to expand its portfolio to a total of 21 hotels across nine prefectures in the country by the end of 2022.

Fairfield Marriott Japan

These anticipated openings continue the momentum of the Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki project in Japan, a collaboration with Sekisui House that began in 2018. The Fairfield by Marriott hotels are located near roadside rest stations called “Michi-no-Eki” in Japan, situated close to national parks and UNESCO World Heritage sites that unlock access to many destinations off the beaten path.

“We are very excited to continue to expand the Fairfield portfolio across Japan in collaboration with Sekisui House,” said Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific (excluding China), Marriott International. “We have seen great success with Fairfield’s ‘Michi-no-Eki’ project, with 14 Fairfield by Marriott hotels already open across five prefectures in the country. We look forward to continuing to expand the brand’s footprint with new additions delivering Fairfield’s friendly service and warm hospitality in little-known destinations across Japan.”

Each Fairfield by Marriott hotel takes inspiration from its surroundings, delivering the beauty of simplicity for guests who appreciate a calming, reliable experience characterized by warm hospitality. The hotels’ public areas serve as flexible social spaces to share and connect with other travelers or simply to relax. Guests can expect a harmonious balance of functionality, comfort and enriching décor in natural materials and carefully selected amenities. Ranging in size from 21 to 25 square meters, each guestroom features comfortable beds, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a space-saving shower booth. The hotels also offer a Breakfast Box, allowing guests to start their mornings with a bento box filled with delicious local specialties as they prepare for the next stage of their journey.

Road trips are one of the best ways to explore Japan. The country’s network of expressways connect far-flung areas, making it highly convenient for visitors to explore the country. With the unique destinations at each of the Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki properties, travelers can enjoy “slow travel” and explore the country’s hidden gems by road.

In Hokkaido, travelers can embark on multi-day road trip journeys that take them from the lively energy of Sapporo to rural Naganuma, with its farms, rice fields, hill cafes and hot springs. A pleasant drive away is Eniwa, with its beautiful natural vistas of rural farmland and national parks. Then, travelers can head to Minamifurano for a few exhilarating days of outdoor activities.

Visitors exploring Nara and Hyogo prefectures have the option of beginning their journeys in Tenri, which was briefly the capital of Japan in the fifth century. A 45-minute drive away from Tenri is Osaka, where visitors can enjoy the infinite attractions of Japan’s third most populous city. Nearby is the cosmopolitan city of Kobe, with its rich history, many cultural attractions and, of course, the world-renowned high-quality Kobe beef. Off the beaten path, Minamiawaji is a gem of a city, connected to the island of Shikoku by the Onaruto Bridge, famous for the enormous Naruto tidal whirlpools underneath.

In Okayama, road trippers can explore the natural beauty of the Hiruzen Highlands on horseback, before heading on to Kurashiki, with its historic canals that date back to the Edo period. A half-hour drive away is Okayama, home to Okayama castle and Kōraku-en, one of the three most beautiful traditional gardens in Japan.

Tenuta di Artimino, a new hotel in Tuscay opens its doors in April 2022

hotel news

Tenuta di Artimino

March 28, 2022–Tenuta di Artimino

The hotel complex forms part of a former Medici estate surrounded by Tuscan countryside, and will open this spring

The Meliá Collection, a new Meliá Hotels International brand that brings together a collection of exceptional hotels with their own unique personality, has announced its latest addition: Tenuta di Artimino, a fantastic hotel complex in the heart of Tuscany, just 20 km from Florence, and scheduled to open in April to become the company’s ninth hotel in Italy.

Tenuta di Artimino

Located among the hills and vineyards of Montalbano, which was once home to an Etruscan settlement, the Villa Medici “La Ferdinanda” was built in 1596 by order of the Ferdinand I de’ Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, following a project designed by Bernardo Buontalenti. Also known as the Villa of the One Hundred Chimneys (Villa dei Cento Camini), it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013.

Next to the Villa is the hotel, built within a 17th-century Renaissance building and also accompanied by a group of lodges in the medieval village of Artimino, just 500 metres away. All in all, there are 102 rooms, suites, villas and lodges, as well as a winery, the gourmet restaurant Biagio Pignatta, the restaurant La Cantina del Redi (located in the heart of Artimino), a swimming pool, spa and large gardens and spaces for hosting events.

The rooms in Tenuta di Artimino are decorated in a Tuscan Renaissance style, with terracotta floors, wooden beams and elements using Pietra Serena, the typical Tuscan sandstone. Over the coming months, several renovation and redecoration works will be carried out in rooms and public areas to enhance the guest experience while also preserving all the historical and cultural legacy of this unique estate.

At the end of last year, Meliá Hotels International announced the launch of The Meliá Collection, a new collection of luxury hotels with their own particular personality, designed for travellers seeking both authenticity and a genuine connection with their destination.

They are carefully selected hotels, chosen either for their iconic location or historical significance, offering a choice of unique experiences designed to discover an unmistakable sense of place. The brand currently includes some of the most unique hotels in the company’s portfolio, such as the Meliá Serengeti Lodge in Tanzania, the Hacienda del Conde in Tenerife, the Hotel Villa Marquis in Paris or the Meliá Desert Palm in Dubai, among others.

The addition of Tenuta di Artimino is an important milestone for Meliá in its growth strategy in Italy, one of its top priorities in Europe, where it currently operates five hotels in Rome, Milan and Genoa. In addition to the opening of the Tenuta di Artimino, the company will also open in 2023 the majestic Gran Meliá Cordusio in Milan and its first two hotels in Sicily, the Meliá Siracusa and Meliá Taormina. The company is also continuing to explore projects in other destinations such as Sardinia and Puglia.

Located in central Italy and with its capital in Florence, Tuscany is the second most visited region in the country after Veneto. In addition to Florence, it is also home to other famous tourist attractions, such as Pisa, Siena, Lucca, Castiglione della Pescaia or Grosseto, as well as about 120 protected nature reserves.

The region is famous for its beautiful rolling hills and vast historical and cultural heritage. Origin of the Italian Renaissance, Tuscany was home to many influential figures of the time, whose legacy is preserved in some of the country’s best-known museums, such as the Uffizi Gallery and the Palazzo Pitti. The region is also famous for its wine, with its world-famous wines include Chianti, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano or Morellino di Scansano, as well as the Carmignano wine, produced by Tenuta di Artimino.

With strong RevPAR acceleration in 2021, Hyatt Place and Hyatt House brands are well positioned to respond to growing travel demand in the Americas

Hyatt expands

Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) announced today that Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels in the Americas continue to outperform in leisure, urban, drive-to, and mixed-use locations, with 48 new hotels in these brands expected to open across the Americas in 16 new markets for Hyatt in 2022 and 2023.

With more than 470 Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels currently open in the Americas, the brands continue to attract travelers looking for seamless hotel experiences and owners and operators that are committed to delivering brand and operational excellence.

Hyatt expands: Hyatt Place and Hyatt House brands in the Americas will represent more than 6,400 rooms planned by year-end 2023, positively contributing to Hyatt’s industry-leading net rooms growth, which was 19.5% in 2021.

This includes growth as a result of Hyatt’s acquisition of Apple Leisure Group (ALG). The anticipated Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels in the Americas represent almost 9% of Hyatt’s total pipeline, and Hyatt will welcome more than 20 new owners to the Hyatt family.

Top-Performing Select Service Brands

Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels in the Americas continue to deliver strong performance, outperforming peers with an almost 400 basis points market share improvement in 2021 over 2019, with leisure, urban, and drive-to destinations as some of the top performing segments in 2021. Additionally, the Hyatt Place and Hyatt House brands in the Americas led occupancy rates across all regions and Hyatt brands with 65.1% in Q4 2021 or 61.8% for full-year 2021.

“The Hyatt Place and Hyatt House brands continue to perform incredibly well, especially among leisure transient guests, with leisure destinations commanding strong ADR,” said Jim Tierney, senior vice president, development and owner relations, Hyatt. “With an eye toward recovery, we believe these hotels will remain attractive to leisure guests thanks to distribution, value, and amenities. For example, in Q4 2021, we saw business transient demand accelerate due to companies returning to the office and business travelers hitting the road again.”

Thoughtfully Growing in Markets that Matter

The 48 hotels expected to open in the Americas by 2023 will expand the Hyatt Place and Hyatt House brands into locations where Hyatt’s loyal guests and members are traveling and will bring the brands to 44 markets, 16 of which are new markets for Hyatt – including Montréal, Québec, Panama City Beach, Fla., Sacramento, Calif., and Virginia Beach, Va.

“We continue to grow the Hyatt Place and Hyatt House brands in markets that matter to our guests and loyalty members, and in strategic locations where our owners and operators will see meaningful results,” Tierney continued.

“From leisure destinations to downtown locations, mixed-use developments to college campuses and airport locations, our pipeline of new properties demonstrates the strength and resonance of the Hyatt Place and Hyatt House brands with developers, owners, operators, and guests.”

March 10, 2022– Virgin Hotels, the luxury lifestyle hotel brand by Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson, has announced its first European hotel Virgin Hotels Edinburgh will open on 1 June 2022.

June 2022 opening of Virgin hotel in Edinburgh

Situated in the landmark India Buildings in Edinburgh’s Old Town, a stone’s throw from Edinburgh Castle, the hotel features 222 Chambers and Grand Chamber Suites and multiple dining and drinking outlets, all with their own unique space and distinct design. This includes Commons Club, Virgin Hotels’ flagship restaurant and bar that acts as a modern day social club; and Eve, a vibrant, all-day dining space, offering a progressive approach to late night entertainment in Edinburgh.

The hotel site is also home to a 19th century church, now known as Greyfriars Hall, that has been beautifully restored and repurposed as a special event venue.  In addition, the hotel offers a rooftop sanctuary with unobstructed Edinburgh Castle views.

Bright and airy with warm textiles and locally sourced furnishings, the Chambers are a welcoming space to relax after a day exploring the city, featuring Virgin Hotels’ signature layout with two distinct spaces. The Dressing Room includes a full vanity, closet space big enough for two, makeup desk with a well-lit mirror, an extra-large shower with a built-in bench and toiletries by Arran of Scotland. A sliding door or drapery separates it from The Lounge, which features Virgin Hotels’ patented ergonomically designed bed with a tufted headboard, a red SMEG mini-fridge generously stocked with a curated selection of local products, television and ample outlets for smartphones, laptops, or other devices.

The hotel worked with Visto Artwork to curate the art throughout the hotel which includes numerous artworks created by local artists alongside works inspired by the unique character of Scotland and the Scots. The history of the location played a key role in developing the pieces, intertwining the heritage of the building with the contemporary character of the hotel design. Illuminating the walls and ceilings throughout Eve, guests will find ‘Mary in Space’ by Studio Giftig, inspired by Mary, Queen of Scots, a cultural icon who also lived for some time in Edinburgh Castle. Wearing modern clothing, Mary makes for an interesting image as past, present and future worlds are imagined to collide.

James Bermingham, Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Hotels said: “Edinburgh is such an iconic city and we’re thrilled it will be the home of the first Virgin Hotels in the UK and across Europe. Through dynamic contextual design and neighbourhood-centric influences the new hotel will be a cultural city hub, with a design that sustains the building’s heritage while adding a vibrant, new style to the area.”

JW Marriott, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of 30 extraordinary hotel brands, today announced the opening of JW Marriott Bengaluru Prestige Golfshire Resort & Spa. The luxury resort is nestled within the tranquil Nandi Hills region of Bengaluru, once an ancient hill fortress and the summer retreat of Indian royalty. Within this idyllic setting, the new resort aims to fulfill the JW Marriott brand promise to allow guests to focus on feeling whole – present in mind, nourished in body and revitalized in spirit.

JW Marriott Bengaluru

“We are thrilled to debut JW Marriott Bengaluru Prestige Golfshire Resort & Spa in this stunning region of India, with its breathtaking views, historic sites and exhilarating activities for outdoor enthusiasts,” said Bruce Rohr, Vice President and Global Brand Leader, JW Marriott. “Our brand principles of mindfulness and connection have found the perfect setting in the resort’s nature-inspired surroundings and design, thoughtful service and holistic guest experiences.”

Inspired Design
The 301-room resort is nestled in the rolling greens of the 275-acre, award-winning Prestige Golfshire course and luxury residential development, and within a 20-minute drive from Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. Conceptualized by Bengaluru-based architectural firm Thomas and Associates, its sleek, modern architecture is inspired by the beauty of the region’s silk.

The resort’s exceptional interiors were led by world-leading hospitality design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates of Singapore, and feature a lobby with panoramic views of Nandi Hills, stunning landscaping, as well as sophisticated guest rooms and villas with private swimming pools and lawns.

Immersive Culinary Experiences
Overlooking the golf course and with indoor and alfresco seating in the pleasant climate of Nandi Hills, JW Marriott Bengaluru Prestige Golfshire Resort & Spa features six dining options for guests and locals. Aviary is the resort’s all-day-dining restaurant with a chic, minimalist aesthetic, and interactive live kitchens, serving Indian, Western and Asian cuisines in both buffet and a la carte styles.

East, an Asian specialty restaurant with Japanese, Korean and Chinese menu items, features the finest and most nourishing produce, while Aaleeshaan, meaning ‘grandeur’ in the local dialect, offers North-Western Frontier Indian cuisine in a palatial interior with magnificent views of the nearby hills. In the lobby, Vista Lounge transitions from a tea lounge during the day to a gin bar at night, showcasing a variety of specialty teas from around the world and an extensive beverage list of handcrafted cocktails.

Patisserie Truffle & Co serves gourmet coffees to complement its array of freshly baked delicacies, sandwiches, savories, and healthy, customized salads. Set around the resort’s azure swimming pool, Flamingo Bar & Pool is an open-air dining space with a sunset terrace, featuring a swim-up bar serving delicious cocktails and fresh juices.

Replenished Spirits, Meaningful Connections
The resort’s 20,000-square-feet Spa by JW® is an exclusive private sanctuary that promises a complete revitalization of the mind, body, and spirit, and offers seven luxurious therapy rooms, including two couples’ rooms, an Ayurveda room as well as a manicure and pedicure suite. Skilled therapists present an indulgent menu of signature spa treatments featuring locally sourced herbs and oils to expertly soothe, relax and invigorate tired bodies and minds.

JW Marriott Bengaluru Prestige Golfshire Resort & Spa also features a modern, fully equipped fitness center, two outdoor pools, a lap pool, and a temperature-controlled lagoon pool with a relaxing jacuzzi. The resort’s wide range of activities, including yoga and meditation sessions, cycling expeditions to explore the beautiful surroundings of Nandi Hills, as well as pleasant morning walks through the hotel’s JW Garden, encourage guests to be truly present and experience the destination to the fullest,

The JW Garden is a signature of the JW Marriott experience and features a calming space for guests to connect with nature, as well as fresh herbs and seasonal vegetables that guests can harvest and enjoy as part of their culinary journey on property. To further complement the resort’s commitment to healthy, fresh dining, a starter packet of seeds housed in sustainable packaging is gifted to all guests.

Around the resort, guests can relax and unwind amidst acres of calm greenery and serene landscaped gardens. Private nooks and secluded spaces intuitively located around the grounds, invite quiet moments of contemplation and reflection. The banks of the resort’s lake serve as an ideal spot to linger, while brief mindfulness rituals such as guided meditation sessions leave guests feeling deeply nourished and revitalized in body and soul.

For families traveling with children, the brand’s Family by JW™ program is designed to bring families together and reconnect over shared, meaningful experiences. An exclusive Kids’ Club offers a full schedule of family-friendly programming, including sessions with a local magician, an afternoon of creative fun with art, as well as music and sightseeing tours on and off the resort.

March 11, 2022 – the INNSiDE Madrid Valdebebas hotel

The hotel forms part of a new development which will include a modern, private hospital in the fastest-growing area in the north of Madrid

the INNSiDE Madrid Valdebebas hotel

Meliá Hotels International and Grupo Pryconsa have announced the future opening of the INNSiDE Madrid Valdebebas Hotel, destined to become the leading hotel in this flourishing residential area in the north of Madrid.

It is also expected to become a popular hotel among the users of Madrid Airport, through which more than 60 million passengers pass in a normal year.

the INNSiDE Madrid Valdebebas hotel has a prime location between the Valdebebas development and the airport area, with which it will be connected through the spectacular “Puente de la Concordia”, which is due to be inaugurated shortly.

It will be only 10 minutes from the Plaza de Castilla and 5 minutes from the IFEMA exhibition centre, with easy access by road, and alongside the most luxurious new developments in Madrid and the Real Madrid Sports City.

The development is promoted by Saint Croix HI, the REIT of Grupo Pryconsa, with the latter acting as project manager during the construction process.

With 273 rooms and a very modern design, the INNSiDE Madrid Valdebebas hotel, the future INNSiDE will be a perfect example of the INNSiDE by Meliá brand, a collection of lifestyle hotels in which the latest architecture and design combine to perfection with the comfort and functionality sought by modern travellers in both city and resort destinations.

This versatility has made INNSiDE the company’s fastest-growing brand worldwide, with 38 hotels currently in operation and a further 8 under construction or preparing to open in a total of 18 countries.

The most recently opened INNSiDE hotels include the Innside Madrid Gran Via in Madrid (also together with the Grupo Pryconsa), and in Europe, the INNSiDE Liverpool, INNSiDE Newcastle, INNSiDE Luxembourg, INNSiDE Amsterdam, INNSiDE Milan, INNSiDE Paris Charles de Gaulle and the impressive INNSiDE Frankfurt.

The brand is also present in other destinations around the world such as New York, and over the coming years expects to continue growing with openings in Europe, America and Asia. In Asia the company already operates 3 hotels under the brand in Indonesia, China and Vietnam, and at the end of the year will open the INNSiDE Bangkok Sukhumvit.

The brand is growing all around the world thanks to the personalised and efficient service it provides, and a welcoming yet avant-garde environment, both in resort and city hotels.

The hotel will offer all the attributes required by “bleisure” travellers who combine business trips with leisure and lifestyle experiences. Facilities will include a gym, bar and restaurant, as well as a 405m2 rooftop area with a fantastic lounge and swimming pool, as well as an adjoining area for a Convention Centre and multi-purpose events venue measuring more than 4,500 m2.

In addition to the potential generated by its proximity to the airport and IFEMA, Saint Croix plans to build a modern, private hospital on the site next to the hotel, which will also create synergies with its services and users.

Hotel Indigo NYC Downtown – Wall Street opens- 2nd hotel by Indigo in Manhattan.

March 8, 2022 – Hotel Indigo NYC Downtown opens its doors

Hotel Indigo, the boutique lifestyle brand from IHG Hotels & Resorts that captures the spirit of the neighborhood, has expanded its offering in New York City with the opening of Hotel Indigo NYC Downtown – Wall Street. This is currently the brand’s second hotel in Manhattan.

Tucked within the towering architecture of the city’s Financial District, Hotel Indigo NYC Downtown – Wall Street sits in the very footsteps of industry’s old icons. When the stock exchange was first founded in 1792, brokers signed a document called the “Buttonwood Agreement,” named after the buttonwood tree it was signed under at Wall and Water Streets. By the 19th Century, much of the trading Wall Street became known for happened inside the Tontine Coffee House, a lively center of merchants, traders, meetings and entertainment. Tontine was located at the intersection of Wall and Water Streets and became one of the nation’s busiest centers for buying and selling stocks.

Hotel Indigo NYC Downtown

– Wall Street draws inspiration from one of the world’s most iconic streets, paying tribute to the neighborhood’s past while serving as a modern-day meeting point for business and leisure guests. The hotel’s contemporary interior, designed by Gene Kaufman Architect PC, reflects its storied neighborhood, with 127 boutique guest rooms that offer a quiet respite from the bustle below. Gold accents, rich leathers, reflective surfaces and a vintage ticker tape machine are woven into the design as a nod to the business conducted in the vicinity for centuries. Floating above each guest room headboard is an abstract interpretation of an interior oyster shell, an ode to the neighborhood’s historic days when tradesmen shucked and shared oysters with bankers, politicians, stockbrokers, lawyers and socialites. Discreet plaid detailing inside guest room wardrobes offers a subtle hint to the “Wall Street uniform.”

Claudio Pereira, General Manager of Hotel Indigo NYC Downtown – Wall Street, commented: “We are truly excited to have opened the doors to this modern hotel on an intersection rich with history. New York City’s Financial District has long been celebrated for its abundant energy, and our hotel will welcome guests with warm, gracious service and the amenities they need to fully embrace their experience of the local neighborhood.”

Buttonwood, the hotel’s signature ground floor restaurant, is a lively spot for a business lunch or after-work aperitif. The menu features elevated New York City classics and comfort foods made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients, including Matzo Ball Soup and Truffle Grilled Cheese. A wood-smoked evening cocktail program is a nod to the buttonwood tree that once stood at the very intersection of the property. The 25th floor Highwater Rooftop boasts a curated cocktail menu, which guests can enjoy against a backdrop of glimmering city lights.

A stone’s throw from the energetic South Street Seaport and Stone Street, and just steps from subways and ferries, Hotel Indigo NYC Downtown – Wall Street offers a perfect starting point to experience famed downtown destinations, including One World Observatory, the Fraunces Tavern Museum, Battery Park and the New York Stock Exchange, amongst other city highlights.

Hotel Indigo has 130 hotels globally, with another 114 in the pipeline.* Upcoming openings in 2022 include St. Louis – Central West End in Missouri, Vienna – Naschmarkt in Austria, Flushing in New York City, The Galapagos in Ecuador, Vancouver Downtown – Portland Area in Washington, Inuyama Urakuen Garden in Japan as well as Brisbane in Australia.

These new hotels highlight Meliá’s presence in Thailand and will pave the way for further new openings in 2023; INNSiDE Bangkok Sukhumvit (scheduled to open at the beginning of the year), which will be the first INNSiDE hotel in the country; Meliá Phuket Kharon, a resort surrounded by 64,000 square-metres of untouched tropical woodland; and Melia Bangkok Bang-Na, a 315-room hotel planned to open in 2025.
