Etihad Airways and Hong Kong Airlines announces exciting Codeshare & Loyalty Agreement 2025
It’s official – two airlines have decided to make your travel life a whole lot smoother (and your loyalty points balance a whole lot happier). Etihad Airways and Hong Kong Airlines have expanded their partnership with a brand-new codeshare and reciprocal loyalty agreement, meaning more destinations, more flexibility, and more excuses to say, “Sure, I’ll just pop over to Japan for the weekend.”
The ultimate travel friendship (with benefits)
Think of this as the airline world’s version of a power couple — Etihad Airways brings the Middle Eastern flair, five-star service, and a base in glittering Abu Dhabi, while Hong Kong Airlines adds the East Asian edge with access to some of Japan’s most exciting cities. Together, they’ve created a global network so connected it practically has its own passport.
Under this new agreement, Etihad passengers can now book flights on Hong Kong Airlines-operated routes from Hong Kong to:
- Fukuoka – for ramen and riverside strolls
- Hokkaido (Sapporo) – for snow, seafood, and serious ski envy
- Osaka – for street food that will ruin all future meals
- Okinawa – for beaches so perfect you’ll think your screen’s been filtered
Meanwhile, Hong Kong Airlines’ flights between Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi will now carry the Etihad “EY” code, making it easier than ever for travellers to connect between Asia, the Middle East, and beyond — all on one ticket, with a single check-in and through baggage. (Because no one enjoys playing “Find My Luggage” halfway across the world.)

Miles that go further than your last vacation days
As if that weren’t enough, the two airlines are also getting cozy on the loyalty front. Members of Etihad Guest and Fortune Wings Club will soon be able to earn and redeem miles across both networks. Translation: your points from that business trip to Abu Dhabi can now get you a sushi feast in Sapporo — or vice versa.
It’s a win-win for frequent flyers and the rest of us who are just trying to reach the next tier for those precious lounge snacks.
The bosses are on board (literally)
Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, Arik De, called the partnership one that “delivers meaningful value through expanded connectivity and full loyalty integration.” Which, in airline speak, means: you’re going to have way more travel options, and your miles will actually be useful.
Meanwhile, Louis Li, Executive Vice President of Hong Kong Airlines, described it as a key move in the airline’s international comeback and a big boost to ties between Hong Kong and the GCC region. Basically, Hong Kong Airlines is back, refreshed, and ready to mingle — with Etihad leading the way.
A reunion years in the making
Fun fact: this isn’t their first rodeo. Etihad and Hong Kong Airlines first teamed up in 2014, and now, a decade later, they’re back for the sequel — upgraded, streamlined, and with better loyalty perks.
The renewed cooperation cements Abu Dhabi as the ultimate bridge between Greater China, Japan, and the Middle East, giving travellers the flexibility to hop continents like they’re changing metro lines.
So whether you’re craving sushi in Osaka, sunshine in Okinawa, or shawarma in Abu Dhabi — you can now get there faster, smoother, and with a side of loyalty points to spare.
The final boarding call
This partnership isn’t just about routes and rewards — it’s about making travel fun again. It’s about knowing that when you book one ticket, your bags, miles, and sanity all stay intact.
And let’s be honest — in the ever-chaotic world of air travel, that’s the real luxury.
So here’s to Etihad and Hong Kong Airlines — two carriers proving that teamwork really does make the dream (and the connection) work
