February 8, 2022 – Wizz Air – new routes from Albania

2 NEW ROUTES FROM TIRANA
4 NEW ROUTES FROM KUKËS

Wizz Air, Europe’s fastest growing and greenest airline announced today the allocation of two new aircraft to its Tirana base. The new Airbus A320neo will join the fleet, enabling the start of two new routes from Tirana to Friedrichshafen and Rimini. As a result of that investment. The airline will also start operations to and from Kukës International Airport to Vienna, Memmingen/Munich West, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden and Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg. The new low fare routes are already on sale on www.wizzair.com and via the WIZZ mobile app with fares starting as low as EUR 19.99.

Wizz Air – new routes from Albania

Wizz Air started operations in Albania in April 2017 and has carried over 500,000 passengers over four years of successful operations. With today’s announcement, the airline will have a fleet of eight modern, state of the art young aircraft at its Tirana base by this Summer. Wizz Air remains highly committed to the Albanian market and to offering great services, paired with low fares for passengers. The airline is adding the new Albanian airport Kukës to its network with four new routes. The newly allocated capacity of over 784,000 seats per year will further contribute to the Albanian aviation market and to the creation of 84 new direct jobs with Wizz Air and 588 local jobs in the associated industries**. Together with the six new routes, Wizz Air now offers 42 routes to 13 countries from Tirana.

Wizz Air continues to ramp up recruitment in Albania as it looks to hire more cabin crew from its Tirana base. The airline will be hosting a series of cabin crew recruitment events on 11, 18 and 28 February in Tirana and eight additional events across the country. Wizz Air welcomes applications from experienced cabin crew, as well as those with no previous experience at all. The airline’s industry-leading training lasts between four and six weeks, depending on experience, and new recruits will benefit from being paid a salary during the entire training period. More information about job opportunities in Wizz Air can be found on careers.wizzair.com.

Speaking at the press conference József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air, said: “Today brings great news for Albanian travellers and those who wish to visit the country. We are announcing more aircraft in Tirana, more travel opportunities with adding Kukës to Wizz Air’s network, more low fare routes, as well as more jobs, and our support to ramp up tourism in Albania.  Our modern aircraft, as well as our enhanced protective measures, will ensure the best possible conditions for travellers while operating the lowest environmental footprint. We look forward to welcoming passengers on board with great service, while we strive to become Europe’s greenest choice for air travel.”

Edi Rama, the Prime Minister of Albania, said: It is a special pleasure to find out that Wizz Air airline will start operating flights from Kukës Airport “Zayed – Wings of the North” towards European destinations. The new Kukës Airport was planned to be a low cost airport from the beginning, when this strategic investment was brought to life. Therefore, Wizz Air starting to fly from Kukës to Austria, Switzerland and two destinations in Germany is a very important news for Albanians who want to travel low cost. I believe that with the precious tradition the  company has established in the market, they will be able to offer passengers a pleasurable flying experience, as the modern Wizz Air planes take off from the lands in the north of Albania.

British Airways has today announced that it will be introducing a new destination to its Heathrow short-haul network, Nuremberg, located in Bavaria, Germany.

Flights to this European city will initially operate four times a week from March 27. The schedule will then increase to six flights per week schedule starting from 1 May 2022 and four times a week over the winter months. The airline has conveniently timed winter flights so that customers can connect to and from other destinations across British Airways’ route network, including services to the US.

Nuremberg is Bavaria’s second largest city after Munich, and is well known for its cultural landmarks that draws visitors year round, so customers can stroll along the vibrant streets or cruise down the beautiful Danube river in the sunshine, as well as explore the spectacular Christmas markets during the festive season.

“Nuremburg offers something for everyone, ranging from sightseeing in the sunshine to exploring the German markets at Christmas, so we hope our customers take full advantage of this new destination to our network.”

British Airways’ return flights to Nuremberg will start from £69 in Euro Traveller and £202 in Club Europe. Or customers can use Avios as part payment, £59 plus 1,000 Avios or £72 plus 24,500 Avios* in Euro Traveller and Club Europe respectively.

Customers travelling in the airline’s Euro Traveller (economy) cabin can pre-purchase items from the Speedbird Café, in advance of travel, or can order additional snacks and drinks on board the flight directly to their seat using their mobile device.

The airline’s customers travelling in Club Europe (business class) have access to priority check in, lounges and restaurant style complimentary dining, including items from the airline’s ‘Best of British’ menus.

British Airways new flights

February 3, 2022 – AirAsia X, Malaysia’s low-cost long-haul airline, has announced the restart of flights between Sydney and Kuala Lumpur on February 14.

AirAsia X Restarts Services To Sydney

The move comes after the end of an $8.1 billion restructuring process, with the carrier stating that it will prioritise full redemptions for passengers affected by cancellations. Flights will initially operate once per week, with fares starting at $399 one way or $1,299 in the Premium Flatbed cabin.

Flights will be operated weekly on Mondays from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney, returning on Tuesdays, beginning 14 February 2022 and to 22 March 2022.

Fares from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur start at AU$399 and AU$1,299 one-way all-inclusive of check-in baggage, one meal and one drink.

AirAsia X has stated that it will prioritise complete redemptions for travellers affected by the restructuring. The airline guests may rebook their flights and use their credit cards to do so.

The autumn/winter schedules will be announced in mid-February.

“Following our travel downtime over the last two years, and the recent completion of our restructuring process, we are thrilled to be able to relaunch and commence our gradual return to the skies, said Benyamin Ismail, CEO of AirAsia X.

“This would not have been possible without the overwhelming support from our guests and creditors, and we thank them for their patience and understanding.

“Without any domestic routes, Air Asia X has been significantly affected by the pandemic. We now see light at the end of this long tunnel, and we are working hard to operate again in all our key markets, as one of the world’s leading low-cost medium-haul operators.

“Starting with flights to and from Sydney, we will progressively continue to honour outstanding bookings and Credit Accounts for our guests and creditors in other markets as soon as possible,” he said.

Fully vaccinated Australian citizens, permanent residents, international students, and eligible visa holders can travel to and from Australia without applying for a travel exemption.

February 2, 2022  – Qantas will resume its daily nonstop service from Perth to London, from 27 March.

Qantas To Re-Launch Perth-London Nonstop Service

Due to restrictions imposed in Western Australia, the relaunch was delayed. However, the move had been anticipated earlier.

As a result, Qantas has used Darwin as an alternate departure airport.

It will be the same 236-seat B787-9s with 42 business class, 28 premium economy seats and 165 regular economy seats used for the flight.

The service which commences on 27 March, will be operated with the following schedules. Flights are now on sale.

  • QF10 departs London Heathrow at 1155, arriving in Perth at 1140 the following day. Flight time is 16 hours 45 minutes.
  • QF9 departs Perth at 1850, arriving in London Heathrow at 0505 the next day. Flight time is 17 hours 15 minutes.

Qantas has been flying nonstop to London since 2018 and plans to establish nonstop Sydney-London flights as part of Project Sunrise in the coming years.

Qantas had chosen the Airbus A350-1000 to fly nonstop from Sydney to London or Sydney to the rest of Europe in 2019.

However, due to the pandemic, the launch of a nonstop flight from Sydney to London has been put on hold.

Qantas must offer nonstop flights to Europe to compete with the several indirect airlines that operated over the kangaroo route before the pandemic.

Due to the pandemic, more changes remain possible and any limitations that governments may enforce.

Ryanair

Dublin Schedule by Ryanair – largest schedule launched with 120 Destinations and over 900 Flights Per Week

Dublin Schedule by Ryanair

blank

February 1, 2022  – Dublin Schedule by Ryanair – 120 Destinations & Over 900 Flights Per Week

Ryanair, Europe’s no.1 airline announced its largest ever summer schedule from Dublin Airport, with 120 destinations and over 900 weekly flights available for its Irish customers this summer. This record-breaking schedule, which includes fantastic sun getaways to Spain, Portugal, Italy, including Sardinia & Sicily as well as exciting destinations in the Greek islands, Croatia and regional France.

Dublin Schedule by Ryanair

Ryanair will also increase its investment with the basing of a 33rd aircraft at Dublin Airport this summer, representing a further $100m investment and bringing its total investment at Dublin Airport to $3.3bn. Ryanair also confirmed today that it will create 30 direct jobs as a result of this additional aircraft based in Dublin.

Dublin Schedule by Ryanair: With an additional 22 routes compared with Summer 2019 and over 900 flights departing to over 120 destinations every week, this increased connectivity will delivery much needed inbound tourism while also giving Irish holiday makers an abundance of travel choices to top European destinations like Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia and Portugal.

After 2 years of stop\start ineffective travel restrictions, the daa have finally been given the tools to incentivise travel with its Traffic Recovery Support Scheme (TRSS) which was recommended by the Aviation Task Force in their report of July 2020.

This investment by Ryanair in its largest ever Dublin schedule is a direct result of the recently launched Traffic Recovery Scheme by the daa.

With many airlines cutting capacity and routes this summer, Ireland must lower access costs as it competes with regions and airports in other EU countries for a diminished pool of airline carriers in Europe which will shrink total short haul seats in Europe by up to 15% this summer.

Dublin Schedule by Ryanair – Ryanair is the only airline in Europe adding capacity in significant volume with the delivery of 67 new Gamechanger Aircraft (delivering -40% noise emissions, -16% fuel emissions, +4% seats) before the start of summer 2022.

If Ireland is to hold on to this capacity and connectivity then the TRSS scheme must at a minimum be extended by the Government into the winter ‘22/23 season to ensure that Irish inbound tourism, particularly post summer, secures the capacity, connectivity and tourists which are vital to the growth of the Irish economy.

To celebrate this exciting announcement, Ryanair has launched a limited-time seat sale with fares available from just €29.99 for travel until the end of June 2022 and if your plans change so can your booking, with our zero-change fee offer.

These fares are sure to be snapped up quickly, so make sure to log onto Ryanair.com before midnight Sunday, 23rd January and make up for the lost summers of 2020 and 2021 with a well-deserved summer getaway.

Alitalia_MSC_Lufthansa

MSC And Lufthansa Offer To Buy ITA Airways

airline news

Alitalia_MSC_Lufthansa

blank

blank

blank

February 01, 2022 – ITA Airways, the successor to Alitalia as Italy’s national carrier, has stated that MSC, a Swiss-Italian shipping corporation, and Lufthansa, have shown an interest in purchasing a controlling stake in the state-owned company.

MSC And Lufthansa Offer To Buy ITA Airways

MSC Group, which encompasses container shipping and logistics operations in addition to cruises, said late Monday in a statement that the merger will exploit efficiencies in both passenger and cargo, adding that Lufthansa has already expressed interest.

MSC and Lufthansa have both sought a 90-day exclusivity period to review ITA Airways’ financial data, during which time the state-owned airline will be unable to deal with other companies.

When ITA was launched in October of last year, its chairman Alfredo Altavilla told reporters that the company would seek a partnership with a larger airline by the end of 2022 since it is too small to compete on its own.

Altavilla also stated that he recognised synergies with freight, one of the most profitable areas of the business.

ITA Airways has been seeking an industrial partner, and a successful end to the MSC-Lufthansa business might assure the airline’s future as it replaces the faltering Alitalia.

ITA, or Italy Air Transport, was formally formed last October when insolvent flag carrier Alitalia landed its final flight, bringing to an end a 74-year commercial history marked by a succession of ignominious corporate dealings that failed to restore the carrier to health.

Former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi rejected an offer by KLM-Air France to acquire Alitalia, citing its strategic importance, only to give it over to a group of reluctant Italian investors, who finally sold a 49-percent stake to Abu Dhabi Etihad in 2014. By 2017, Alitalia has declared bankruptcy for the second time in a decade.

According to the Italian publication Il Post, several corporations have recently expressed interest in acquiring ITA Airways, which currently has a fleet of 52 aircraft and plans to expand to 105 by 2025.

MSC is the world’s largest container shipping line. It also has a cruise company, MSC Cruises, and operates in the aviation industry by leasing cargo planes to transport goods.

According to Il Post, acquiring a part in ITA Airways would be immensely significant for MSC since the shipping business would no longer have to rely on external airline operators.

Lufthansa, Europe’s largest airline in terms of aircraft, would be the company’s fourth investment in a smaller European carrier, following Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings.

Several media reports stated recently that Lufthansa was ready to make a deal on its own to purchase a 40% interest in ITA, which launched last October with a fleet that was less than half the size of its predecessor Alitalia.

According to Reuters, the news of the expression of interest evoked an initial positive reaction from Italy’s National Air Transport Federation (FNTA), which described MSC and Lufthansa as “two excellent partners who could guarantee future growth to ITA with an excellent international positioning.”

Doha, Qatar – Qatar Airways is boosting its service to Nigeria with the launch of four weekly flights to Kano (KAN) on 02 March 2022, and three weekly flights to Port Harcourt (PHC) on 03 March 2022, both operating via the Nigerian capital, Abuja.

The airline currently operates two daily flights to Lagos and four times a week to Abuja, which will expand to a daily service in March.

Qatar Airways new 4 weekly flights to Nigeria: Kano and Port Harcourt will become the seventh and eight new African gateways launched by Qatar Airways since the start of the pandemic. Both routes will be served by the state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner, featuring 22 seats in Business Class and 232 in Economy Class.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker said: “The airline was one of the few to keep operating to many African destinations throughout the pandemic and, as restrictions are lifted, is continuing to expand its network on the continent. As home to the largest economy and population in the region, we see tremendous growth potential for travel and trade in Nigeria. It is a key market and an important part of our African growth strategy; the expansion of our presence across two new gateways is a testament to our continuous commitment to Nigeria.

“We anticipate good reciprocal demand between Port Harcourt, UK, USA and destinations across Asia. For Kano we see the opportunity to grow traffic to and from markets such as KSA and India, as well as strong cargo prospects.”

As travel restrictions ease, Qatar Airways is restoring its services to all its African destinations. When Kano and Port Harcourt flights start operating, the airline will provide 188 weekly flights to 28 destinations in Africa. Qatar Airways African customers will also benefit from generous baggage allowances, which provide for up to 46kg in Economy Class split over two pieces and 64kg split over two pieces in Business Class.

A multiple award-winning airline, Qatar Airways was recently announced as the ‘Airline of the Year’ at the 2021 World Airline Awards, managed by the international air transport rating organisation, Skytrax. It was also named ‘World’s Best Business Class’, ‘World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge’, ‘World’s Best Business Class Airline Seat’, ‘World’s Best Business Class Onboard Catering’ and ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’. The airline continues to stand alone at the top of the industry having won the main prize for an unprecedented sixth time (2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021).

Qatar Airways has also become the first global airline in the world to achieve the prestigious 5-Star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating by Skytrax. This follows the success of Hamad International Airport (HIA) as the first airport in the Middle East and Asia to be awarded a Skytrax 5-Star COVID-19 Airport Safety Rating. These awards provide assurance to passengers across the world that the airline’s health and safety measures are subject to the highest possible standards of professional, independent scrutiny and assessment. January 28, 2022 – Wizz Air will launch four new routes to its London Gatwick base from Burgas, Varna, Venice and Palermo this spring.

Wizz Air further develops position at Gatwick

At the same time, the carrier has increased frequencies on the recently announced new routes to Larnaca, Milan and Vienna.

The announcement follows the acquisition of 15 daily slot pairs at Gatwick and the launch of 14 new routes from spring onwards.

This further expansion means that Wizz Air will be operating a total of 25 routes for the summer season.

The expansion at the airport, combined with the decision to adjust the airport slots usage ratio to 70:30 for the summer 2022 season, reinforces Wizz’s intention to fully utilise these slots at maximum capacity and demonstrates the airlines’ long-term commitment to the airport and surrounding region.

From June 13th, the carrier will launch five flights a week to the seaside resort of Varna in Bulgaria, and from June 15th, will fly four times a week to Burgas, a large port city on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast.

Not only is Wizz Air launching an additional four new routes, the airline is also increasing the frequency of its flights to Larnaca, Milan and Vienna from daily to twice daily on most days.

From the end of March, all of Wizz Air’s flights from Italy to London will be operating into London Gatwick, providing excellent, low-fare connectivity for passengers between the two countries.

Marion Geoffroy, managing director of Wizz Air UK, said: “Today marks another important step in our continued expansion at Gatwick, following the announcement of our acquisition of new slots at the airport.

“We have continued to call for the full reinstatement of the original 80:20 slot usage rules and welcome the government’s recent decision to adjust the ratio to 70:30, so we can continue to take up new market opportunities and provide even more low-fare opportunities for our customers, supporting the recovery of the aviation sector, associated industries, and local economies.”

January 27, 2022 – Air France’s rollout of its ‘Ready To Fly’ service is now available on Air France flights to Paris from Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and starting May 17, Air France’s new flights from Québec City.

Air France’s ‘Ready to Fly’ service rolling out to Canadian routes

With ‘Ready To Fly’, Air France passengers can have their travel documents checked prior to their flight.

The service is now available on 140 routes and 600 daily Air France flights.

Air France launched Ready To Fly in July 2021 as a free and optional service providing customers confirmation that they have the required health documents for their trip before arriving at the airport.

Passengers gain greater peace of mind and a more seamless travel experience, by avoiding multiple checks on the day of departure, says the airline.

Ready To Fly is being progressively deployed throughout the Air France network. It is currently available on more than 140 routes on departure from 80 airports, representing more than 600 daily flights including …

  • Flights to France on departure from Europe and Canada
  • All domestic flights in France and to/from Corsica and French Overseas Department
  • Flights to/from the United States, Argentina, Chile and Brazil
  • Flights from France to Germany, Spain, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Gabon and Senegal

Air France’s Ready to Fly service also automates the French vaccine pass verification on domestic flights. The vaccine pass became mandatory on domestic flights in France for passengers aged 16 and over as of Jan. 24, 2022.

To reduce the time required to process the submitted documents, Air France is replacing the manual verification of the vaccine pass with an automated check, ensuring customers travelling in France receive instant confirmation.

The airline says this feature is available a few days before departure, in the same way as with any other Ready To Fly document verification process – customers receive an email from Air France inviting them to upload their vaccine pass on a secure online platform.

Customers who have not used the pre-validation service can alternatively scan the QR code of their vaccine pass during check-in at a self-service kiosk at the airport on the day of departure. This service is currently available at Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Paris-Orly, Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Mulhouse, Nantes, Nice, Strasbourg and Toulouse. This feature will be integrated in the online check-in process in the coming months.

January 21, Ryanair has announced its largest ever summer schedule from Dublin Airport, with 120 destinations and over 900 weekly flights available to customers.

Ryanair unveils largest ever Dublin schedule

The schedule includes sunny getaways to Spain, Portugal and Italy.

The carrier also confirmed it will create 30 direct jobs as a result of adding an additional aircraft to the Dublin-based fleet.

With an additional 22 routes compared with summer 2019, Ryanair said its Dublin schedule is a direct result of the recently launched Traffic Recovery Scheme from airport operator daa.

With many airlines cutting capacity and routes this summer, the carrier said Ireland must lower access costs as it competes with regions and airports in other EU countries for a diminished pool of carriers.

Ryanair chief executive, Eddie Wilson, said: “After two years of stop/start ineffective travel restrictions, the daa have finally been given the tools to incentivise travel with its Traffic Recovery Support Scheme (TRSS) which was recommended by the aviation task force to government in their report of July 2020.

“This scheme gives Ryanair the confidence to invest in our largest ever summer schedule and largest number of based aircraft at Dublin Airport.

“The daa TRSS scheme will ensure airport charges are competitively priced versus other EU countries this summer, and Ryanair have responded by launching its largest ever investment in aircraft, connections and jobs at Dublin Airport.”
