December 24, 2021 -Wizz Air Gatwick UK, the UK-registered and based airline of Europe’s fastest growing airline group, today announces that it will launch new routes from its Gatwick Airport base to 14 destinations including, Faro, Palma, Larnaca, Catania, Podgorica, Tel Aviv, Chania, Mykonos and Funchal.

There will also be new routes from Milan, Rome, Vienna, Bari and Naples to Gatwick Airport, with those flights operated by Wizz Air Hungary. Tickets go on sale today, on wizzair.com and on the airline’s mobile app, with fares starting from just £8.99*.

Wizz Air Gatwick

A mixture of year-round and seasonal routes, these new flights will launch from March onwards, following Wizz Air UK’s successful bid for a substantial portfolio of 15 daily slot pairs at Gatwick Airport. Wizz Air’s expansion will see the airline basing four additional A321neo aircraft, bringing the total to five, at Gatwick Airport.

These aircraft will serve existing routes from Gatwick Airport to Malaga, the gateway to the Costa del Sol, and the Greek capital city, Athens, as well as all the new routes. With a range of destinations on offer by Wizz Air Gatwick, from the fascinating Italian cities of Milan and Rome, to favourite hot holiday destinations such as Mykonos and Palma da Mallorca, there are exciting travel opportunities for every type of traveller.

With the launch of these new routes, Wizz Air Gatwick will have 22 non-seasonal and seasonal routes on offer from Gatwick.

Since the opening of its base at Gatwick Airport in October 2020, Wizz Air UK has offered an exciting array of routes to popular and off the beaten track destinations for its customers based in London and the South of England, creating jobs, stimulating the local economy, and bringing further connectivity to the region.

The addition of four new aircraft at Gatwick Airport reinforces Wizz Air’s commitment to its Gatwick base operations and its ambitious UK growth plans. This expansion at Gatwick Airport, combined with its operations at Luton Airport, means Wizz Air will operate a total of 88 routes from London, reaffirming the airline’s long-term commitment to the region.

Marion Geoffroy, Managing Director of Wizz Air UK, said: ““We are delighted to be launching a host of new routes from Gatwick, following the announcement of our acquisition of new slots at the airport.

Whether it’s a relaxing beach holiday in the Algarve or a city break in Montenegro’s capital of Podgorica, there are many wonderful destinations to discover and return to. These new routes are further evidence of our commitment to providing low-fare connectivity to our UK customers. We are looking forward to welcoming customers old and new onboard our young, efficient and green aircraft in Summer 2022 to enjoy our excellent service as they head off on their well-deserved trips abroad.”

Stephanie Wear, Vice President of Aviation Development, Gatwick Airport, said: “Wizz Air are one of Europe’s largest airlines and have seen the benefits of expanding at the airport for some time, so I’m delighted that five Gatwick-based aircraft will fly routes to popular destinations across Europe this summer.

Many competitively-priced tickets are already on sale which, after everything we’ve all been through, gives more people the opportunity to take advantage of Gatwick’s fantastic connections to visit friends and relatives, or take a long-awaited holiday, when these new flights start flying from the end of March. Despite the current situation, we’re looking forward to a better summer and Wizz Air’s expanded operation is a wonderful addition to Gatwick and VINCI Airport’s portfolio.”

For ultimate peace of mind during this time, passengers can book tickets with the airline’s travel insurance package which includes Covid-19 cover** and WIZZ Flex. With WIZZ Flex, passengers can cancel their flight up to three hours before departure without any fee and receive 100% of the fare immediately reimbursed in airline credit.

Egypt, a popular destination in 2022

Egypt is a popular destination following the pandemic restrictions, in part because of the low incidence of Covid-19 cases there.

Egypt has implemented strict precautionary measures to protect the health of visitors.

SamaTravel notes that demand for travel to Egypt has been increasing steadily.

“Since we became the first tour operator to resume charter services to Luxor, we have seen demand grow day by day. Most of our flights have been full in recent months, and we have even had waiting lists. That’s why we decided that we couldn’t ignore the requests from tour operators and travel agencies, and are now betting heavily on our star destination. It is a privilege to do so with Iberia,” said SamaTravel CEO Mohamed Ali.

“We are very happy,” he continued, “that we were chosen to return to a country we love and we trust that we will continue to lead as the Spanish tour operator with the largest number of seats for Egypt.”

Iberia’s Guillermo González Vallina, Sales Manager for Spain, Portugal, and North Africa, commented. “We are delighted to be flying again to Egypt following the interruption caused by the pandemic. Now, thanks to SamaTravel, we will be making these charter flights which are sure to be a success. Iberia hopes to offer our customers a wonderful holiday experience!”

new summer schedule American airlines

blank

December 20, 2021 – New summer schedule American Airlines and JetBlue – First-ever JetBlue service to Vancouver and Asheville, North Carolina, on sale today, plus expanded flying on a variety of Northeast routes.

New summer schedule American Airlines and JetBlue

New international and domestic destinations announced by American from New York and Boston, including new long-haul service to Doha, Qatar.

Starting next summer, American and JetBlue will fully co-locate at LaGuardia’s new Terminal B, making it easy for customers to connect between both airlines.

FORT WORTH, Texas — JetBlue (NASDAQ: JBLU) and American Airlines (NASDAQ: AAL) today announced that customers in New York and Boston will have more reasons to make the Northeast Alliance (NEA) their preferred travel provider as the airlines add new routes, improved schedules and enhanced product offerings. Nine new routes go on sale this week across both airlines in New York and Boston. With these new routes, the NEA offers more frequencies in New York and Boston than any other airline.

“A new year brings new opportunities for the Northeast Alliance to add more JetBlue flying in New York and Boston and to deliver on the customer benefits we’ve promised since first announcing this innovative partnership,” said Joanna Geraghty, JetBlue’s president and chief operating officer. “As we look ahead to 2022, the NEA is poised to deliver incredible growth, which will bring more of our award-winning service and low fares to travelers in the Northeast as, together with American, we create a true third competitor in the region.”

Record-setting service in New York and Boston

With the addition of new destinations, new markets and added frequencies on variety of existing routes in New York and Boston, JetBlue and American are on track for a record-setting year in the Northeast in summer 2022.

“As we welcome customers back to travel, the Northeast Alliance is delivering on promises to offer customers more choices and travel benefits,” said Robert Isom, American Airlines president. “We’re excited to offer our New York and Boston customers even more frequencies and destinations when they travel next year.”

At New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), the NEA will offer up to 300 daily departures. Along with the introduction of JetBlue’s new Vancouver service, the airline will also add frequencies on a variety of existing routes between JFK and:

  • Aruba (AUA): Up to 4x daily.
  • Atlanta (ATL): Up to 4x daily.
  • Cancun, Mexico (CUN): Up to 4x daily.
  • Detroit (DTW): Up to 2x daily.
  • Guayaquil, Ecuador (GYE): Up to 2x daily.
  • Kingston, Jamaica (KIN): Up to 5x daily.
  • Minneapolis–St. Paul (MSP): Up to 2x daily.
  • Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ): Up to 4x daily.
  • Raleigh–Durham, North Carolina (RDU): Up to 3x daily.
  • Saint Lucia (UVF): Up to 2x daily.
  • Providenciales, Turks and Caicos (PLS): Up to 2x daily.

As part of the customer-focused NEA, in 2022, American will enhance its global reach with new nonstop service between JFK and Doha, Qatar’s Hamad International Airport (DOH), becoming the only U.S.-based carrier to serve the Middle Eastern destination.

In the past year, American has provided New York customers with new international travel options, including JFK to Santiago, Chile (SCL); Tel Aviv, Israel (TLV); Athens, Greece (ATH) and Delhi, India (DEL).

At LGA, the NEA will offer nearly 200 daily departures, which includes JetBlue tripling their departures compared to 2019. Along with the introduction of JetBlue’s new Portland, Maine (PWM), service, the airline will also add frequencies on a variety of existing routes between LGA and:

  • Boston (BOS): Up to 15x daily.
  • Charleston, South Carolina (CHS): Up to 3x daily.
  • Jacksonville, Florida (JAX): Up to 3x daily.
  • Nashville, Tennessee (BNA): Up to 3x daily.
  • New Orleans (MSY): Up to 2x daily.
  • Orlando, Florida (MCO): Up to 5x daily.
  • Tampa, Florida (TPA): Up to 3x daily.
  • Savannah, Georgia (SAV): Up to 2x daily.

American has also added new LGA routes to Houston (IAH); Kansas City, Missouri (MCI); Oklahoma City (OKC); and Omaha, Nebraska (OMA). The airline has also added more seats to routes to St. Louis (STL), RDU and BNA. Bolstered by the NEA, American has strengthened its offering at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) with better frequencies to hub airports.

As part of the LaGuardia redevelopment project, American is completing its move of operations to the new Terminal B, Western Concourse starting today. The airline will no longer operate out of the old Central Terminal Building, which has been home to American’s operation since the 1960s. Additionally, JetBlue will be fully operating out of LaGuardia’s Terminal B when completed in summer 2022, providing easy connections for customers traveling on the Northeast Alliance. The LaGuardia Terminal B redevelopment includes a new 1.3-million-square-foot terminal with 35 gates, an array of New York City-inspired shops and dining options, permanent pieces of art by leading artists, and a one-of-a-kind water feature.

Beginning in June, customers in Boston will enjoy greater connectivity with six new U.S. domestic routes and two new options to Canada. With these new routes, the NEA will serve 46 of the top 50 U.S. domestic mainland markets from Boston. Tickets will be available for sale starting Dec. 20.

In Boston, American today announced new nonstop service operated on Embraer E175 aircraft between Boston and:

  • Halifax, Nova Scotia (YHZ): 1x weekly.
  • Louisville, Kentucky (SDF): Up to daily.
  • Memphis, Tennessee (MEM): Up to daily.
  • Pensacola, Florida (PNS): 1x weekly.
  • Traverse City, Michigan (TVC): 1x weekly.

These new routes follow recently announced American routes from BOS to Columbus, Ohio (CMH); Cincinnati (CVG); Indianapolis (IND); Wilmington, North Carolina (ILM); STL; and Toronto (YYZ).

Along with JetBlue’s introduction of new service to Vancouver and Asheville, the airline will add even more flying between BOS and Reagan National Airport (DCA) with up to 16 daily departures. Additionally, service at Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) will return in summer 2022 with up to five daily flights between BWI and BOS starting June 9.

In summer 2022, the NEA will offer more than 200 daily departures at BOS, with JetBlue operating more than 150, to more nonstop destinations than any other carrier.

British Airways new destinations – departing from Gatwick

airline news

British Airways new destinations

December 16, 2021 – British Airways new destinations from Gatwick –

Today British Airways has revealed the initial destinations for its new Gatwick subsidiary, which will start flying from March 2022. Tickets to 35 short-haul destinations will also be on sale from Tuesday 14 December.

British Airways new destinations

The airline announced its intention to create a short-haul standalone business at Gatwick in August, similar to its operation from London City Airport, which operates under the British Airways name but exists as an entirely separate entity. The offshoot will launch later in 2022, with short-haul services at Gatwick being operated by mainline BA until the new entities’ Air Operators Certificate is issued. BA short-haul flights will start operating from Gatwick at the end of March, with three Airbus short-haul aircraft initially, ramping ramp up to 18 aircraft by the end of May.

The subsidiary will herald the airline’s return to short-haul flying from the London airport, which had been suspended as a result of Covid-19 in Spring 2020. During the pandemic, several routes were moved to Heathrow airport, some of which will return to Gatwick, as well as being maintained at Heathrow to give customers choice, including Faro, Ibiza, Malaga, Marrakech and Tenerife. In addition, other new routes will be added at Gatwick including Athens, Berlin, Madrid, Milan Malpensa and Santorini.

The new services will be branded and known as British Airways*. Customers will receive the same high level of service they expect of British Airways as well as enjoying the benefits of travelling with the UK’s flag carrier including a generous baggage allowance, free water and snacks, free seat selection at -24 hours and frequent flyer benefits which include lounge access.

Club Europe customers will also receive complimentary food and drink and Euro Traveller customers who want to order additional food will benefit from access to the airline’s ‘Speedbird Café‘, which features a selection of products from a range of carefully selected British brands.

Tickets, which will go on sale at ba.com today, and start from £39* each way with fares competitive with those of Gatwick no-frills carriers. British Airways Holidays also has a number of packages to these destinations, starting from £119.** The airline will continue to prioritise flying to and from the most convenient destinations across Europe.

Sean Doyle, British Airways’ Chairman and CEO, said: “Today is a landmark moment for British Airways. The creation of a new British Airways short-haul organisation means Gatwick customers will benefit from access to a premium service from the UK’s flag carrier at competitive prices. We are looking forward to bringing a short-haul network back to Gatwick, with a fantastic flying team in place, to serve our customers from London’s second hub airport, which we feel sure will be a success.”

Stewart Wingate, CEO, Gatwick Airport, said: “This significant news will be very welcome for many people connected to the airport.  Despite the ongoing public health situation, today’s announcement is a positive signal that consumer confidence is returning as people start thinking about making travel plans for next summer.

“Given the difficult period we have all just been through, we expect BA’s new and extensive network of services from Gatwick to destinations across Europe to be in high demand and our staff, retailers, restaurants, cafes and bars are all looking forward to welcoming BA passengers back in larger numbers from April next year.”

British Airways new destinations –

The airline has already launched a significant recruitment campaign to invite people interested in roles to help the company launch the new subsidiary. Prospective candidates can visit the British Airways careers site, where new roles are added each week and you can register your interest for future job alerts.

New routes United Airlines – New Partnership announced with Virgin Australia Group

December 15, 2021 – New routes United Airlines through partnership with Virgin Australia Group

Australia has always been a key part of United’s network as demonstrated by United being the only carrier to maintain passenger service between the U.S. and Australia throughout the pandemic. In addition, United offers more flights to Australia than any other U.S. carrier and now extends its presence by adding Virgin Australia Group’s comprehensive network.

The United States and Australia share a special bond and I’m especially proud that United was the only airline to maintain a vital link between these two countries throughout the pandemic,” said United CEO Scott Kirby.

“Looking ahead, Virgin Australia is the perfect partner for United. Our partnership provides considerable commercial value for both airlines and a shared commitment to offer the best travel experience for our customers.”

New routes United Airlines

United currently offers daily direct flights from San Francisco and Los Angeles to Sydney, while other services including flights from Houston and direct services to Melbourne are expected to resume later in 2022. Under this new partnership, United’s customers will now have access to top Australian destinations including Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

In addition to the ability to redeem and earn points/miles, eligible premier MileagePlus and Velocity members will also receive the following benefits when flying on United and Virgin Australia worldwide:

  • Priority check-in
  • Priority boarding
  • Priority baggage delivery and additional baggage check allowance
  • Priority security clearance
  • Lounge access

The partnership will also triple Virgin Australia’s reach into the U.S., with customers accessing United’s vast domestic and international network, connecting at United’s multiple Australian gateways.

The partnership is another significant customer enhancement for the relaunched Virgin Australia, that will also see the airline resume the sale of codeshare flights at virginaustralia.com, starting with United services in early 2022, followed by the airline’s other international partners. Virgin Australia first paused the sale of codeshare flights on its website at the height of the pandemic, and today’s announcement will open a new gateway for travel between Australia and the U.S. and beyond.

“We are grateful to have such a strong partner in United,” said Virgin Australia Group CEO Jayne Hrdlicka. “They have proudly been one of Australia’s most loyal and long serving aviation partners and their market strength both to Australia and in the United States brings great value to our guests. We look forward to innovating together on behalf of our guests to ensure they have the very best travel experiences to over 90 destinations in the U.S.”

December 10, 2021 – JetSMART Chile to Colombia – JetSMART has further expanded its presence on routes between Chile and Colombia as it seeks to take market share from Avianca and LATAM Airlines Group.

JetSMART Chile to Colombia

The ULCC entered the Colombian market two years ago, launching flights from Chile’s capital Santiago (SCL) to Bogota (BOG) and Cali (CLO), followed by a route between Antofagasta (ANF) and Cali.

As well as increasing frequencies on all three existing routes this month, the airline has also launched a new service from Santiago to Medellín, the capital of Colombia’s mountainous Antioquia province.

Flights started on Dec. 1 and will be offered twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays using Airbus A320s. The 4,426-km (2,750-mi.) route, which was originally earmarked to begin in July but delayed because of COVID-19 travel restrictions, is Medellín’s only nonstop flight to Chile.

According to data provided by Sabre Market Intelligence, O&D traffic between Santiago and Medellín totaled 45,050 two-way passengers in 2019, a rise of 12% on the previous 12 months. As there was no direct service, the top connecting market was BOG, followed by Lima (LIM) in Peru. JetSMART’s new service will likely target VFR and leisure traffic.

Alongside the launch, data provided by OAG Schedules Analyser shows the carrier is increasing gradually frequencies on SCL-BOG and SCL-CLO from 3X-weekly in early November to daily by early January. ANF-CLO is also rising from 1X-weekly to 3X-weekly.

For the week commencing Jan. 3, 2022, the latest schedules reveal that JetSMART intends to offer 7,068 two-way seats between Chile and Colombia, giving it a 38.8% capacity share of the market. During the same week, LATAM will have a 34% share, Avianca a 19.1% share, and Sky Airline an 8.1% share.

Etihad summer holiday flights

Etihad Airways launches first green loyalty programme

airline news

Etihad Airways

blank

blank

December 09, 2021 – Etihad Guest has introduced a series of sustainability-focused initiatives to reward members for making ‘green’ choices and providing options to reduce their own carbon footprint.

Etihad Airways Loyalty Programme

Conscious Choices, the new range of sustainable initiatives offered by the award-winning loyalty programme of Etihad Airways, has been created to support Etihad’s overarching sustainability ambition to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, and halve 2019 emissions by 2035.

Travellers wishing to fly and spend more consciously and sustainably can now earn Tier Miles, and other rewards, for making sustainable choices.

Empowering Etihad Guest members to travel with a lighter carbon footprint, Conscious Choices rewards travellers with Tier Miles and additional benefits for carrying less baggage on board and offsetting their flights’ carbon emissions using Etihad Guest Miles.

In their daily lives, when not flying, members can earn Tier Miles by offsetting everyday emissions such as driving, with options ranging from one month to one year worth of offsets, as well as emissions such as cooling your home or cooking your dinner for a month up to a year; donating miles to a green cause; and by purchasing sustainable products from the Etihad Guest Reward Shop in partnership with Collinson and CarbonClick.

Members can also choose to ’go green’, by opting for a digital membership card instead of physical.

Rewarding members with Tier Miles helps them on their way to maintain their existing tier or upgrade to the new tier to unlock even more benefits.

Etihad is the first airline in the world to reward frequent flyers for being more sustainable in the air and on the ground.

Members’ sustainable behaviours are already being captured so they can be rewarded for offsetting their flights with Miles and purchasing sustainable products in the Reward Shop, while the full programme and benefits will go live in January 2022.

Tony Douglas, group chief executive officer, Etihad Aviation Group, said: “Etihad’s commitment to sustainability sits at the core of our business, and we’re pleased to welcome our eight million members to jump on board this journey to sustainability.

“Empowering our members to offset their personal travel or shopping in a sustainable way, and be rewarded for it, gives the Etihad sustainability programme even more weight.

“While Etihad has focused on developing technology and innovative solutions for operational efficiency that will actively reduce the CO2 emissions of flying, we have placed an equal focus on the guest.

“To that end we have been developing our sustainable loyalty programme for the last year, listening to member feedback and taking into account their priorities and expectations for travel.

“Through this we have refined a programme that will provide members with the ability and incentive to travel more sustainably, while further reinforcing our position as a planet-conscious travel and lifestyle brand.”

Over the last two years, despite the challenges of Covid-19, Etihad has introduced a number of significant CO2 reduction initiatives under its Greenliner sustainability programme.

This includes adopting thousands of mangroves, using sustainable fuels, reducing contrails, flying optimised flight paths, operating more electric vehicles and working with partners who share its vision for cleaner skies.

At the recent Dubai Airshow, Etihad expanded its strategic sustainability programme to unite industry leaders including Boeing, Airbus, GE and Rolls-Royce in the most comprehensive, cross-organisational aviation sustainability initiative ever undertaken.

In October, Etihad operated its most sustainable flight ever, leveraging the learnings and efficiencies developed over the last two years to reduce carbon emissions by 72 per cent in absolute terms compared to the equivalent flight operated in 2019.

The EY20 Sustainable Flight is an example of what the future of commercial air travel looks like.

The fact that sustainability has stayed on the agenda during the pandemic is testament to just how important the topic is to Etihad.
