Fly Arna: Armenia’s New National Airline, Backed By Air Arabia

airline news

blank

October 4, 2021 – Armenia is teaming up with Air Arabia to launch a new national airline. It has now been decided that the airline will be named “Fly Arna.” Further details, including the fleet, destinations, and timeline, will be announced “in due course.” Regardless, it sounds like all parties are serious about this concept.

If Armenia is going to launch an airline, this definitely seems like the way to go about it — the government can leverage Air Arabia’s expertise in launching a successful airline, rather than focusing on prestige and politics (though I’m sure that will find a way to seep in as well).

airline news

September 7, 2021 – Travellers from Kenya will now be allowed into the United Kingdom from next week after Britain revised its Covid-19 travel list in a fresh boost for tourism, which is currently in its peak season.

The UK moved Kenya from its Red List to Amber along with seven other countries –Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Oman, and Bangladesh.

Travellers arriving in the UK from countries on the Red List are denied entry while returning Britons must submit to 10 days of mandatory quarantine in hotels. UK nationals are barred from travelling to those countries.

Kenya was placed in the Red List in April following the spread of the highly contagious Covid-19 Delta variant in the country, dealing a blow to the tourism sector.

The revision, announced by British Transport Secretary Grant Shapps on Friday, offers a boost to the Kenyan hospitality

Emirates and Qantas extend partnership to help boost international travel

airline news

blank

October 4, 2021 – Qantas and Emirates have announced they will extend their cornerstone partnership for another five years, meaning customers and frequent flyers of both airlines will have access to an expansive joint network, and millions of reward seats to travel across Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the UK.

The agreement was signed by Emirates President Tim Clark and Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce at the International Air Transport Association Annual General Meeting in Boston.

The airlines have existing approvals from regulators to operate a joint business until March 2023. Qantas and Emirates will seek re-authorisation from relevant regulators, including the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, to continue the core elements of the partnership including coordination of pricing, schedules, sales and tourism marketing on approved routes until 2028. The deal includes an option to renew for another five years beyond that.

Together, both airlines are making millions of reward seats available for frequent flyers to access more than 100 destinations to using their Qantas Points or Skywards Miles, which many have been stockpiling throughout the pandemic.

For Emirates customers, the deal provides access to over 55 Australian destinations that Emirates does not fly to, and Qantas customers are able to fly on Emirates to Dubai and access over 50 cities in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, that Qantas does not fly to.

As Qantas and Emirates recover from the impact that COVID-19 has had on their respective businesses, the partnership will continue to deliver financial upside for both airlines.

CEO Commentary

Sir Tim Clark, President Emirates Airline, said: “The extension of our partnership with Qantas is testament to its success. It also reflects our commitment to ensure customers travelling to and from Australia, a market which we have served for 25 years, continue to have the best connections and frequent flyer benefits. Despite the challenges of the past 18 months, today’s announcement reinforces that Emirates is here for the long-haul.

“Our partnership seamlessly connects travellers to over one hundred destinations globally on our joint network, and offers a coordinated premium experience such as access to points and lounges. As borders re-open, we look forward to restoring our Australian flight schedules including our popular A380 services, and to welcoming customers to experience our best-in-class partnership for many more years to come.”

Qantas Group CEO, Alan Joyce, said: “This marks the continuation of one of the most significant bilateral partnerships in aviation. We called it ‘seismic’ when it launched in 2013 and it has been, especially in terms of what it’s meant for over 13 million people who have travelled on flights that form part of the deal.

“The premise of our partnership with Emirates has always been that no airline can fly everywhere but combined we can fly to most of the places our joint customers want to travel to. And that we treat each other’s customers as our own.

“We know the international aviation market will take years to fully recover so close collaboration between airline partners is going to be more important than ever.”

This year, Emirates is celebrating 25 years of flying to Australia, transporting more than 39 million passengers between Australian cities, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, and other destinations via its Dubai hub since 1996. Emirates has continued to display its strong commitment to the Australian market increasing the size of its operations from three flights a week when it initially launched in 1996 in Melbourne, peaking to over 100 flights per week prior to the pandemic.

Benefits of Qantas and Emirates partnership

Since 2013, more than 13 million passengers have travelled on the joint network, travelling more than 87 billon kilometres.

On average more than 13,000 Emirates passengers have travelled on Qantas’ domestic and regional services within Australia each month.

Together, Qantas and Emirates provide customers with more than 100 codeshare destinations including:

  • 38 codeshare destinations in the UK and Europe, including Rome, Zurich and Barcelona
  • 55 codeshare destinations in Australia and New Zealand
  • 13 codeshare destinations in Africa and the Middle East
  • 2 codeshare destinations in Asia

4 New Airline Routes That Will Supercharge Your Travel Plans in 2024!

Qantas is happy to announce that international travel in Australia restarts ahead of schedule

airline news

blank

October 1, 2021 – Qantas will bring forward the restart of its international flights to 14 November 2021, following the Federal Government’s announcement that Australia’s borders will open in November.

The national carrier will operate three weekly return flights between Sydney and London and three weekly return flights between Sydney and Los Angeles with its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. These two destinations have been the most searched on qantas.com in recent weeks. More flights will be added to meet demand, if needed.

Fares are now on sale for Australian citizens, permanent residents and their immediate families and some visa holders. Fares start from $1662 return for Sydney-Los Angeles and $1869 return for Sydney-London.

All flights on both routes for the first week will be ‘Points Planes’, meaning frequent flyers can access uncapped Classic Flight Reward seats across all cabins. Seats on these flights will also be available as regular flight bookings.

Once the Federal Government announces the exact date that Australia’s international borders will reopen in November, the commencement dates for these two routes may need to be updated. Flights will be brought forward if its earlier than 14 November or moved to later in the month if necessary. Customers booked on these flights will have the flexibility to make ‘fee free’ date changes for travel until 31 December 2022 (a fare difference may apply). If flights are cancelled customers may also be eligible for a refund or credit voucher.

As previously indicated, all passengers on Qantas’ international flights will be required to be fully vaccinated with a TGA-approved or recognised vaccine (some exemptions for medical reasons and children). They will also be required to return a negative PCR COVID test 72 hours prior to departure.

Customers on these flights will be required to home quarantine for seven days on arrival into Australia, in accordance with the requirements from the Federal and New South Wales governments.

At this stage, all other international routes that  were scheduled to resume from 18 December 2021 will continue as planned, although the Group has the flexibility to add additional routes if other states and territories decide to open their borders earlier and reduce quarantine requirements to seven days at home, or less.

International flights remain subject to Government and Regulatory approval.

Qantas will continue to operate government-sponsored repatriation services as required, helping to bring Australians home from around the world, including home quarantine trial flights.

CEO COMMENTS

Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said: “The early reopening of Australia’s international borders will mean so much to so many people and it’s made possible by the amazing ramp up of the vaccine rollout.

“We know Australians can’t wait to travel overseas and be reunited with their loved ones, and literally thousands are waiting to come back home, so this faster restart is fantastic news. It also means we can get more of our people back to work, sooner.

“We welcome the Federal Government’s decision and the work by the New South Wales Government to facilitate the home quarantine approach that makes this feasible. We look forward to other States and Territories getting on board.

“We’d already sold out some of our international flights for December and seen strong demand on flights to and from London and Los Angeles, so we’re confident there will be a lot of interest in these earlier services.

“We know many frequent flyers have been stockpiling their points over the past 18 months to use on an overseas flight, so we’re making more seats available to be booked with points alone.

“Beyond the initial rush, the ongoing demand for international flights will hinge largely on what the quarantine requirements are. The shift to seven day home quarantine for fully vaccinated Australians with a negative test is a great step towards reducing this closer to what is becoming standard in many countries overseas, which is a test and release program.”

Emirates unveils latest Dubai Expo 2020 livery

airline news

blank

Emirates has revealed a head-turning A380 livery dedicated to carrying the messages of Dubai Expo 2020 worldwide.

A bold departure from the airline’s traditional white and gold paint scheme, the bright blue aircraft livery features large-scale graphics in vivid green, orange, pink, purple and red.

The scheme runs across the fuselage and all the way up to the tail and fin, interlaced with the distinct ring-shaped Expo 2020 Dubai logo.

Special ‘Dubai Expo’ and ‘Be Part of the Magic’ messages run across both sides of the fuselage.

The engine cowls also carry the Expo 2020 Dubai messages and dates of the event.

The Emirates red belly branding, which can be only seen when the aircraft is flying overhead, has been replaced by the opportunity-themed orange ‘Dubai Expo’ branding.

It is not just a decal, but a complete paint project, and is by far the largest the airline has ever embarked on.

The paint on A6EEU, the aircraft chosen for the livery, was completely stripped.

After that, eleven colours were applied on the aircraft in a careful, methodically sequenced manner.

A ‘wild spray method,’ electrostatic spray guns and conventional cup guns were used to put on the different colours, using over 2,500 sqm of tracing and masking material.

Decals were then applied on the engine cowls and, as well as the image of the Emirates cabin crew holding the message boards adjacent to the aircraft’s exits.

The process of painting the livery design and applying the decals took 16 days and 4,379 man-hours to complete.

Colombia’s Post-Outbreak Tourism Strategy Focused on Six Cities

blank

Colombia’s national focus on environmental sustainability isn’t just a tourism strategy, it’s national policy. Now officials at ProColombia, the country’s destination marketing agency, are using that mandate as a roadmap to form tourism-rebuilding initiatives following the pandemic’s outbreak.

ProColombia is focusing promotional programs on six regions that showcase the country’s world-leading biodiversity and distinctive cultural attractions and experiences rooted in Colombia’s indigenous music, gastronomy, artistry and historic sites.

“We are committed to a new way of working with the country’s regions to position Colombia as ideal for international travellers by empowering new segments such as nautical, archaeological and community-based tourism,” said Flavia Santoro, president of ProColombia.

Travel to the destination is rebounding strongly following the outbreak, Santoro said, led by visitors from the U.S. Colombia has hosted 172,000 American visitors to date in 2021, a 16.6 percent increase over pandemic-stricken 2020.

“This makes the U.S. the only country with positive numbers of travelers to Colombia between 2020 and 2021,” said Santoro. “Colombia is well-connected to the U.S. and has already recovered more than 60 percent of the [airline] connectivity we had in February of 2020.”

Colombia reopened its borders to international flights on September 21, 2020, after launching a national pandemic recovery plan that includes “the implementation of biosafety parameters for travellers,” said Santoro.

Since last year, 13 new airline routes between Colombia and the United States have been announced, connecting U.S. cities including Miami, Newark, New York and Orlando with Bogota, Medellin, Cali and Cartagena, Colombia.

Safe Passage

Santoro said Colombia’s health and safety measures have enabled travellers to safely return to the country. She said 38 million vaccines have been applied in Colombia, whose population totals 50.4 million residents. “The country has made it easy for travellers to enter Colombia,” Santoro said.

Indeed, Colombia’s entry process is relatively simple. Visitors are not required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result to enter the country. Travelers who experience coronavirus symptoms during or 14 days after their inbound flight are required to report it to the local health authorities and isolate immediately.

Special Six

In terms of tourism promotion, Santoro said ProColombia is focusing on six regions of the country. “We are concentrating on attracting tourism that benefits not only travellers, but travel companies, the environment and the community,” Santoro said.

The Greater Colombian Caribbean, described by officials as the land of Nobel Prize-winning Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez, features rainforests, snow-capped peaks and desert dunes, and is home to cities including Cartagena, Santa Marta, Barranquilla and San Andres Island.

The Western Andes region is highlighted by Colombia’s coffee route and features mountains, exotic birds and flower-covered valleys in cities including Medellin and Pereira. Described as the centre of Colombia’s colonial past and its struggle for liberation, the eastern Andes region is distinguished by soaring mountains and expansive national parks in Bogota, Villa de Leyva and Bucaramanga.

“We are concentrating on attracting tourism that benefits not only travellers, but travel companies, the environment and the community.” – Flavia Santoro, president of Pro Colombia. (Photo by Brian Major)

Colombia’s Massif region encompasses paramos, volcanoes and the country’s largest rivers, with accessible evidence of ancient Colombian civilizations in archaeological parks and indigenous communities in the Popayan and Pasto regions. The Colombian Amazon is an immense centre of biodiverse rainforests and white water rapids.

Described by officials as Colombia’s “best-kept secret,” the country’s Pacific coast features rainforests leading to the ocean where visitors can view humpback whales and sea turtles. The region has a distinctive African heritage maintained by the present-day residents of Cali, Nuquí and on Gorgona Island.

The natural and cultural attractions combine with practical advantages, Santoro said. “Colombia is the most biodiverse country per square meter in the world according to the United Nations,” she said. “We also have connectivity, accessibility, a favourable exchange rate and a culture of service.”

Lufthansa adds more flights to USA due to high demand

airline news

Airline news from around the world

September 28, 2021 – About a week after the planned end of U.S. travel restrictions, Lufthansa Group airlines are experiencing a further boom for flights to the United States. On certain days in the last week, flights across the Atlantic increased three-fold over the week before. Demand in the last week on certain routes almost reached pre-crisis levels. Flights with SWISS from Zurich and Lufthansa from Frankfurt to New York and from Frankfurt and Zurich to Miami had the highest bookings from both leisure and business travellers. In Premium Economy, Business and First Class more tickets to the USA were bought than in the same period in 2019.

Lufthansa Group is meeting this boom in pent-up demand by launching additional flights to the USA on short notice. Lufthansa and SWISS, for example, will be offering a combined total of three daily flights to Miami on short notice starting in November.

There is very strong demand for flights to the USA for the coming December. New bookings in the past week for this month were as high as they were for 2019 for the same time period. Flights to New York – traditionally in high demand during the Christmas season – have already been bolstered with additional connections. The airlines of the Lufthansa Group are offering up to 55 weekly connections to New York from their various European hubs in Austria, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland in December. A further short-term expansion of services is currently under consideration.

Alone to New York and Chicago, Lufthansa Group airlines offer more daily connections from Europe in November than flights to the entire Asia-Pacific region. Lufthansa Group expects that the opening of the U.S. to vaccinated EU travellers will be a signal for other countries and regions to make international air travel easier again and roll back travel restrictions.

Brazilian Startup Airline ITA

Brazil has a new airline.

This new company aims to become Brazil’s most prominent player, though it has a long road ahead and has already faced a few setbacks. Let’s investigate further.

Regarding domestic flights, the airlines predict to resume all routes by the end of the first semester of 2022.

Right now, the numbers of daily departures are 75% compared to pre-pandemic numbers. They expect to end 2021 at 85%. There is a push for more regional flights as new airport concessions are being made, and the appearance of a new airline, ITA, has pushed Azul, Gol and Latam to resume routes so they won’t lose market share.

ITA is currently flying to 19 destinations in Brazil and plans to end 2022 with 35 routes. They do not have an aggressive price strategy, but they want to differentiate themselves by offering 1 free checked bag (around R$50 or U$10 benefit, compared to the others), more leg space, free seat assignment, meals and drinks on-board when they return, integration with their bus fleet. This might be the biggest advantage for international tourists, they will be able to fly to Rio and connect by land to Buzios by bus, directly from the airport, with one ticket.
