Etihad Airways adds flights to Shanghai as travel demand to and from China grows

December 28, 2022 – Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways is set to strengthen air connectivity between the UAE and China next year, starting with an additional weekly frequency on its Abu Dhabi – Shanghai route.

Etihad Airways

Subject to regulatory approval, from February 2023, the airline will fly to Pudong International Airport (PVG) two times per week using modern Boeing 787 and 777 aircraft.

Combined with a weekly service to Beijing and a twice-weekly service to Guangzhou, this will provide travellers with five weekly nonstop flights between Abu Dhabi and China.

Martin Drew, Senior Vice President of Global Sales & Cargo at Etihad Aviation Group, said: “Etihad Airways is delighted to add a second weekly passenger service to Shanghai following the further relaxation of Covid-related travel measures.

“China is a market of primary importance to Etihad, and as one of the country’s largest financial and economic centres, Shanghai plays a crucial role in our network.

“Etihad is committed to developing our operation to China, and we look forward to welcoming more travellers on board in the new year to experience our award-winning hospitality.”

Today’s announcement follows the launch of nonstop flights between Abu Dhabi and Guangzhou in October 2022, when Etihad Airways became the first international airline to operate long-haul passenger flights to the top three Chinese gateways since the start of the pandemic.

The airline marked another milestone in China earlier this year when it operated the first regular international passenger flight to recommence to Beijing when the capital reopened for international direct travel in June 2022.

Budapest Airport Unveils 4 New Routes

Wizz Air Vienna continues growing

Wizz Air Vienna

Wizz Air Vienna continues growing

December 21, 2022 – Wizz Air Vienna

Wizz Air Vienna, Europe’s fastest growing and most environmentally sustainable airline globally*, announced this week further expansion from Vienna, allocating one more Airbus A321neo aircraft to its base in the Austria’s capital city.

Wizz Air Vienna

The allocation of the new aircraft is enabling the launch of two new routes, starting from June 2023, as well as increased frequency on five routes from Vienna International Airport. The tickets are already available at wizzair.com or on the Wizz Air’s mobile app.

The allocation of an additional aircraft to the Wizz Air Vienna base will grow the base to six aircraft. The move brings the total number of the airline’s routes from Vienna to 38, including two newly launched. Passengers will now be able to fly with Wizz Air from Vienna to Bilbao (Spain) and Kuwait City (Kuwait). Furthermore, the additional capacity allows Wizz Air to increase the frequency of its flights from the base to Madeira (Portugal), Nice (France), Tel Aviv (Israel), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) and Yerevan (Armenia).

Robert Carey, President of Wizz Air, said at the press conference: “Austria is an important market for Wizz Air and remains in our focus for continuous investment. Following today’s celebration of the first flights from Vienna to Jeddah and Riyadh, we are pleased to announce an addition of one more aircraft, growing Wizz Air’s Vienna base to six aircraft. With the new aircraft, we will expand our route network with two new routes to Kuwait City and Bilbao, increase frequency on five routes and add capacity of 350,000 seats for the Austrian market. This expansion further strengthens Wizz Air’s commitment to the Austrian market, operating Vienna’s only all-NEO fleet. We now offer the total of 38 routes to and from Vienna, providing connections to 25 countries in Europe and beyond.”

Focus on sustainability

Including the new aircraft announced today, Wizz Air will have six Airbus A321neo aircraft stationed at its Vienna base in the future. The young and modern fleet is equipped with the latest aviation technology, which brings numerous advantages and supports the airline’s ambitious sustainability strategy. The Airbus A321neo has reduced fuel emissions and noise pollution by half, and fuel consumption by 20 percent, compared to previous models. In addition, Wizz Air has the lowest carbon dioxide emissions per passenger kilometer of any airline in Europe and has committed itself to reducing emissions by a further 25 percent by 2030 compared to 2019 levels. Robert Carey noted: “We are currently the largest operator of A321neo aircraft in Europe and the only airline based in Vienna with all Airbus A321neo fleet. When it comes to decarbonizing aviation, Wizz Air is laser focused on the technology and innovation available here and now. We are confident that by investing in the most modern aircraft we will be able to continuously reduce passengers’ carbon footprint.”

In addition, Wizz Air Vienna recently became a member of the Alliance for Zero-Emission Aviation (AZEA), a voluntary initiative launched by the European Commission to pave the way for next-generation sustainable aircraft. “We are pleased to have joined AZEA and to collaborate with its members on ongoing research and development for hydrogen aircraft operations. It is imperative that all stakeholders – from airlines and airports to regulators and fuel providers – coordinate to ensure the infrastructure is ready to deploy this technology at scale. Our goal is to offer the most sustainable air travel possible through multifaceted collaborations, innovations and investments that are also affordable – because Wizz Air will continue to be the greenest choice for flying,” Carey added.

Ambitious growth up to 2030

Wizz Air has already opened three new bases in 2022, added over 230 new routes to its network and 34 aircraft to its fleet, continuing to pursue an ambitious growth strategy. To achieve this growth, Wizz Air is continuously expanding its team of dedicated personnel, both on the ground and in the air. By 2030, Wizz Air aims to employ 20,000 people and offer up to 2,000 people a year a promising and exciting job. In Vienna, Wizz Air is also looking for new staff as part of the expansion of its fleet to become a member of Team Pink and help make a lasting difference to air travel. The airline welcomes applications from anyone, with or without training, and career changers are also welcome. Interested parties can check open positions on WIZZ’s careers page and also apply for advertised positions right away.

Robert Carey said: “Wizz Air is an ambitious and growth-oriented airline with a strategy to expand its fleet to 500 aircraft within the next decade. Growth and sustainability go hand in hand at WIZZ, which is why we place particular emphasis on the numerous benefits we offer our employees. We have coped well with the crisis, operating today 135% of our pre-COVID capacity, and are already strategically positioning ourselves for the future with new employees.” Wizz Air Vienna

Aer Lingus

Aer Lingus adds Kos (Greece), Olbia (Sardinia, Italy) and Brindisi (Italy) to its Euro destinations

Aer Lingus

Aer Lingus adds Kos (Greece), Olbia (Sardinia, Italy) and Brindisi (Italy) to its Euro destinations

December 16, 2022 –

Aer Lingus has unveiled a bumper 2023 summer schedule which will see it fly to 53 European destinations from Ireland, including three new exciting summer routes to Kos (Greece), Olbia (Sardinia, Italy) and Brindisi (Italy).

Aer Lingus

Aer Lingus also has over 2.25 million transatlantic seats on sale, making it the airline’s largest ever North American summer schedule to date. Next summer the airline will operate 15 routes from Ireland, including Cleveland for the first time and the return of Hartford, Connecticut. It will also operate two* direct transatlantic routes from Manchester to JFK and Orlando.

The summer 2023 schedule reflects the huge resurgence in leisure travel and the increasing demand for European sun destinations, particularly the Mediterranean. Aer Lingus is increasing its peak summer capacity to Malaga and Faro from both Cork and Dublin. It is also increasing capacity on other popular European routes including, Alicante, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Perpignan, Izmir, Bordeaux, and Athens from Dublin.

Tapping into Travel Trends

Industry insights reveal growing travel trends for 2023, with Forbes highlighting two interesting motivations for choice in 2023 – a feeling of familiarity when travelling as well as the quest to follow a path less travelled. Condé Nast Traveller’s fifth annual travel summit also reports very similar travel motivations for 2023, the key trends highlight people seeking experiences rather than destinations; solo travellers joining group trips with strangers; travellers splurging more than ever; and major interest in traveling to learn a new skill. Aer Lingus’ three new summer destinations will allow travellers to tap into these trends as each provides many different types of experiences to be enjoyed by those feeling wanderlust in 2023.

Summer 2023 is set to be a year of continuing resurgence in a post-pandemic world. As the demand for summer travel returned in force last year, as Irish consumers look to the skies after past summers of staycations. 2023 is forecasted to show strong demand for family favourite holiday destinations like Spain and Portugal which offer the comfort and reassurance of the familiar. Whereas younger generations seek adventure along the paths less travelled, like the streets of beautiful Brindisi and the sandy beaches of Sardinia. Popular booking website, Sky Scanner, also released research for 2023 stating that one in four are considering solo travel this year.

Europe for Summer

Greek Islands

What better destination for a summer experience than a sandy beach and beautiful views? Greek island Kos, new to Aer Lingus’ summer schedule, is steeped in rich culture and surrounded by warm, clear waters and is a perfect holiday destination. Island hoppers can also discover other popular Greek islands such as Corfu and Santorini this summer.

Culture Capitals

According to Glamour Magazine’s 2023 Travel Trends, travellers are also ready to buckle up and head to culture capitals of the world to whet their appetite for change. Aer Lingus is meeting this demand with two cultural destinations that won’t disappoint. Flying into Olbia in Sardinia, a town filled with medieval history and sandy beaches, this destination provides all the culture with a dash of beach escapism, the perfect balance! Taking a flight to Brindisi, a city steeped in history, holidaymakers can take in beautiful scenery of both sea and city views of the Apulia region.

Sun-seekers are encouraged to book early to get the best value and ensure their spot on these highly sought-after flights. Aer Lingus will commence twice weekly flights to the new destinations starting with Kos and Olbia from May and Brindisi from June.

North America Milestone

Looking to North America, Aer Lingus will have a bumper 2.25 million seats on sale for Summer 2023, making it a record schedule in its history of flying across the Atlantic. In peak summer Aer Lingus will deploy its full Airbus A330 fleet and A321neo LR aircraft on the Atlantic, enabling Aer Lingus to offer 20% more seats from Ireland to the North America than 2019.

Key favourites Boston, New York JFK, Chicago and Washington D.C will operate double-daily from Dublin during peak summer; new route Cleveland, Ohio will commence in May; and Hartford, Connecticut will resume in March for the first time since the pandemic. Aer Lingus will operate a total of 15* North American routes from Ireland next summer.

Speaking about the Summer 2023 Schedule, Susanne Carberry, Chief Customer Officer said,

‘’Demand for European sun destinations is at an all-time high post-pandemic, with European sun high on everyone’s wish list, so Aer Lingus is delighted to announce increases across our European schedule to the most sought after, trendsetting European destinations this summer.

We have three very exciting brand-new destinations on offer in Kos (Greece), Olbia (Sardinia, Italy) and Brindisi (Italy), which our customers are sure to love exploring this summer. We’re seeing a big appetite for travel and our ambitious expansion into North America continues with Cleveland and Hartford services beginning, making our summer transatlantic schedule a record breaker with 2.25 million seats on sale.’’

It means greater access to our incredible city. WestJet’s new routes will play a big role in attracting investment and visitors to Calgary. Congratulations to WestJet and YYC for creating additional ways to connect Calgarians and our economy to the world.”

     –  Jyoti Gondek, Calgary Mayor

“This is the first time we’ve ever had a direct route between Edinburgh and Calgary, and it is always exciting to see our connectivity expand and bring Scotland closer to major cities around the world. WestJet’s commitment to Edinburgh and Scotland is a show of confidence in our market and demonstrates the huge interest in both Scotland and Canada as tourist destinations as well as important business and trade links. We are prepared for a stampede for tickets and are looking forward to working with WestJet to make this route a success and explore further opportunities if and when they arise.”

     –  Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport

“The launch of a direct service between Edinburgh and Calgary is great news for people and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic. We are investing in this service to make it easier to travel between Scotland and Calgary, as well as other parts of Canada and the West Coast of America, given Calgary’s role as a connecting hub for WestJet. It has the potential to create economic, social and cultural benefits while also enhancing our international connectivity. I also welcome the use of the Boeing 787 on the route, one of WestJet’s latest generation aircraft that will help reduce carbon emissions. I wish WestJet and Edinburgh Airport every success with this new service.”

November 23, 2022 –

This month marks five years since Emirates and flydubai activated their extensive partnership and joined forces to offer customers unrivalled travel options to every corner of the globe. They’ve certainly delivered on their promise. The carriers’ joint route network has significantly expanded, enabling more than 11 million customers to connect on over 250,000 flights and benefit from seamless travel since the partnership launched in 2017.

Emirates and flydubai

The innovative partnership goes beyond the standard codesharing model and today includes integrated network collaboration, schedule optimisation, seamless connectivity at Dubai International airport (DXB) between Terminals 2 and 3, baggage transfers on a single itinerary, as well as reciprocal loyalty benefits under the joint loyalty programme, Emirates Skywards.

Here’s five key highlights of Emirates and flydubai’s partnership and the benefits it offers to customers:
