Welcome back to paradise: InterContinental Danang Sun Vietnam

Welcome back to paradise: InterContinental Danang Sun Vietnam

Welcome back to paradise: InterContinental Danang Sun Vietnam

May 27 2022 –

Following the reopening of Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, travellers can one of the world’s great hospitality jewels. Nestled in nature on the Son Tra Peninsula, InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort offers the pinnacle of Vietnamese five-star hospitality in a paradise setting.

InterContinental Danang Sun Vietnam

The incredbile InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort was named ‘World’s Leading Green Resort 2021’ by World Travel Awards.

Nestled in 39 hectares of nature on the unspoiled Son Tra Peninsula, overlooking the ocean, this breath-taking resort is spread across four levels – Heaven, Sky, Earth and Sea – all linked by a funicular railway that rises up the forested hillside. Stay in spacious sea-facing rooms, suites and pool villas, dine at Michelin-rated restaurants, experience immersive activities or simply unwind on the 700-metre-long beach. Pure bliss!

InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is a riot of colour, unconventional design and a healthy splash of whimsy, where traditional Vietnamese design is complemented by a bold colour palette of black and white with splashes of lemon yellow, acid green and sunset orange.

Wherever you go you’re likely to see something that stops you in your tracks, whether it’s the delicate curve of a silk lantern, a giant pen-and-ink bird portrait, striking geometric floor tiles, or a statue of the Ky-Lan, a mythical creature that’s half-dragon, half-dog.

Famed architect Bill Bensley has woven his magic throughout every space, crafting a resort that inhabits four levels – Heaven, Sky, Earth, and Sea – linked by a funicular train, the Nam Tram, which climbs its way through the forested slopes.

The resort’s gardens blend seamlessly with the surrounding rainforest. When the property was built, concerted efforts were made to preserve the natural integrity of the site, avoiding the removal or cutting of trees and ensuring that the Resort enjoys a position nestled into the heart of its lush, green surroundings. A team of over 100 landscapers and gardeners work to maintain the Palm Grove on the beach, to ensure that the resort’s flowering trees and shrubs are healthy, and to keep the organic garden well-tended, especially important as the source of many of the herbs and vegetables used in the kitchens.

Whichever spectacular Southeast Asian destination guests choose to visit, they are assured of a warm welcome. Following successive holiday seasons when the global pandemic significantly impacted international travel, Thailand and Vietnam are now greeting overseas guests with their famously warm and heartfelt hospitality.

On the 33rd floor, guests can access a haven of wellness, comprising a 24-hour Fitness Center, an indoor heated pool with floor-to-ceiling windows, and the hotel’s dedicated spa with an extensive menu of treatments designed to promote blissful relaxation and rejuvenation of the mind and spirit.

W Hotels Italy portfolio debut Milan and Naples

May 26 2022 –

Marriott International has signed agreements to debut two further W Hotels in Italy with W Milan Duomo and W Naples. Both hotels are slated to welcome guests in 2024, further expanding the brand’s footprint in the country, following the recent opening of W Rome and the signing of W Florence in 2021.

W Hotels Italy portfolio

“We are thrilled to announce the signing of W Milan – Duomo with Gruppo Marseglia and W Naples with Solido S.p.A. The spirited cities of Milan and Naples have long been a destination of choice for global jetsetters, and we’re delighted to answer to the growing demand for luxury lifestyle hotels with these two significant signings,” said Gianleo Bosticco, Senior Director Development, Italy, Marriott International.

W Hotels Check into Italy’s Fashion Capital
W Milan – Duomo will bring the brand’s magnetic energy and distinctive design to the heart of Milan’s Fashion District. Situated in a prime location, W Milan – Duomo will be within walking distance of the city’s cultural landmarks including Piazza del Duomo, Teatro alla Scala and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. Milan’s vibrant and iconic shopping street, Via Montenapoleone, is just a three-minute walk from the hotel.

First built as a bank in the 1920s, W Milan – Duomo will blend Milan’s classic grandeur with W’s bold branding and innovative programming. Led by Milan-based architects Stefano Boeri Architetti and international design firm Yabu Pushelberg, the hotel is expected to feature 166 guestrooms and 36 suites, including an Extreme WOW Suite.

Design plans for the hotel’s rooftop include the brand’s signature WET deck, offering spectacular views of the Duomo di Milano. The vistas continue with plans for an exclusive rooftop bar, W Lounge, and a signature restaurant; all complete with outdoor terraces and positioned to offer panoramic views of the city and the perfect aperitivo. Inspiring workout spaces are expected to include a 380-square-metre AWAY Spa, complete with an indoor pool and FIT fitness centre. Guests will also have access to the W brand’s iconic Whatever/Whenever® service.

“We are delighted to work with Marriott International on this exciting project, which will become a new point of reference in Milan for luxury lifestyle under the socially driven W brand. W Milan – Duomo will be an icon in the city for years to come,” said Leonardo Marseglia, Chairman of Marseglia Group.

The Majestic Bay of Naples Meets W Hotels Vibrant Energy
W Naples is set to become a buzzing centerpiece in the heart of the historical Piazza del Municipio square. The charming building, also formerly a bank, will receive a multi-million-pound renovation, with the historic façade remaining untouched playing homage to its historic past.

Old-world charm meets W Hotels’ unexpected design and innovative programming as the hotel is expected to serve as the perfect gateway to discover Naples by foot. Guests will find themselves immersed in the heart of the locally charged cultural scene with the hotel’s location just steps from the ancient Via Toledo known as the shopping street of Naples, the famed glass domed Galleria Umberto I and the prestigious UNESCO-listed, Teatro San Carlo, which is one of the oldest opera houses in the world.

W Naples will also be within walking distance of Molo Beverello Port where guests can dine al fresco with seafront views, or take a day trip to nearby Rome, Capri, Positano, or Pompei.

W Naples is set to bring together noble grandeur, culinary delicacies and couture fashion. The hotel is expected to feature 78 guestrooms, including 17 suites, several of which offer private terraces. The interior transformation will be headed up by the acclaimed Rockwell Group and design plans include a signature restaurant, W Lounge and FIT fitness center.

“We are so proud to have the W brand come to Naples. The hotel will provide a new social hub for locals and tourists alike when visiting wonderful Naples, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast.” said Mr. Manuel d’Avanzo head of development of Solido S.p.A Group.

This announcement reaffirms the growth of W Hotels in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, where the brand currently operates 14 properties and residences, with new openings planned across the region in exciting destinations such as, Portugal, Greece, Scotland and Czech Republic.

May 23, 2022 –

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is expanding its presence in London with the opening of Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London this winter. Sitting on historic Hanover Square, in the heart of London’s most stylish neighbourhoods, where fashion, media, art, and business intersect, the new property is a discreet, sleek and intimate sister property to the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park.

Mandarin Oriental Mayfair

The property comprises 50 guestrooms and 78 private residences, offering hotel guests and residents an oasis of calm and Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service alongside a vibrant atmosphere in the public spaces. It will house the first namesake Akira Back restaurant in the UK from Michelin Star award winning Chef Akira Back, as well as his ‘ABar Lounge’ concept.  There will also be an urban spa, focussed on renewal and recalibration.

“We are incredibly excited to open a Mandarin Oriental hotel in the heart of such an iconic location. Mayfair has such a rich history and pedigree within luxury, fashion and art and is continually evolving. This is a wonderful parallel for our new property, which will introduce delightful touches for which Mandarin Oriental is loved, but in a more intimate and informal setting. We feel that our warm, club-like atmosphere, which flows throughout the hotel, is set to make Mandarin Oriental Mayfair a new destination of choice in the area,” says Susanne Hatje who joins as General Manager direct from the iconic Mandarin Oriental, New York.

Design and Interiors
Designed by internationally renowned Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (the talent behind the Lloyd’s building and the ‘Cheesegrater’ in London, as well as the Pompidou Centre in Paris), the building’s design has a rich historic context, given its location on the corner of Mayfair’s oldest square.

A strong sense of place has inspired the interior design of the hotel’s public spaces, created by Tokyo based studio, Curiosity, who have based their concept on ‘a hub of nature and art’. As an homage to the hotel’s cultural and creative neighbours, artworks by local British artists feature throughout the hotel with one-off furniture pieces curated by Curiosity’s founder, Gwenael Nicolas.

Restaurants & Bars
Chef Akira Back makes his UK debut at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair. Born in Korea and raised in Aspen, Colorado, Michelin Star award winning Chef Akira Back brings a sense of adventure and boundless creativity to his culinary creations. Spring Mountain Ranch State Park

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park

Like many historic locales found throughout the Silver State, some of Nevada’s oldest history traces back to areas early explorers and pioneers were drawn to. In the scorching Mojave Desert heat, many pioneers were not drawn to the Spring Mountains for their spectacular scenery or even shady valleys, but for the water supply. The uncharacteristic bevy of natural cold springs in the area are what initially drew people to the picturesque valley in the 1830s, and interestingly enough, continue to do so to this day.

This lush oasis proved invaluable to exhausted pioneers forging West, following the Spanish Trail. This heavily-depended-upon pioneer stopover proved to be a reliable place to rest and stock up on supplies required for the remainder of their journey West.

By the 1870s, the area had attracted James Wilson and George Anderson, who had recently acquired a large amount of funds after their working ranch was purchased by a former business partner. With deep pockets and serious ambition, Wilson and Anderson took over the property, maintaining the two existing buildings and land. Additionally, James’ wife Annie and her two sons James Jr. and George Jr. occupied the land and expanded the existing cabin on-site during the 1870s. Tragedy struck in the early 1880s when Annie mysteriously vanished and was never seen or heard from again. James also dies in 1906, passing the ranch onto James Jr. and George Jr., who eventually sold the ranch in 1929.

 Spring Mountain Ranch State Park

The next owner of the ranch—Williard George—had even mightier dreams when getting hold of this iconic property. As a big-time fur coat maker for the Hollywood elite, George had plans to purchase the Spring Mountain Ranch and turn it into a chinchilla ranch to support his business. Though not difficult to predict, his grand idea eventually failed and the ranch turned hands again, this time to radio-turned-movie star Chet Lauck.

When the Wilson family originally got hold of the property in the 1870s, the blacksmith shop and original expanded cabin were the only structures on-site, rivaling some of the oldest buildings in the state of Nevada. When Chet Lauck moved on-site, he constructed the main house in 1948, which serves as State Park Headquarters for the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area today. By the 1950s, Spring Mountain Ranch commanded the attention of Hollywood stars—both foreign and domestic—due to its alluring remoteness and exotic beauty.

German movie star Vera Krupp honed in on Spring Mountain Ranch State Park property in 1955, after divorcing from coffee guru Alfred Krupp in Germany. With a brand new, immaculately constructed mansion on her hands, Vera was in heaven. Here, she spent her days rockhounding, hosting parties, ranching with the boys, and living life to the fullest in the Spring Mountains until she fell ill and needed to relocate to be closer to adequate medical care. Despite a serious personal interest in selling the property to the Nevada State Parks system in order to preserve the property, Howard Hughes snapped up the Spring Mountain Ranch in 1967.

Visiting Spring Mountain Ranch State Park Today

Skip the crowds at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and head for Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, which offers the same experiences without thousands of people. With six babbling springs on the property, Spring Mountain Ranch State Park owns all the water rites, and that alone is worth more than all 520 acres of land and all the buildings put together. Crazy, right? Be sure to take notice of the natural amount of water on the property, which is what makes such a deliciously manicured lawn possible for your enjoyment. Think about it: a lawn in the middle of the Mojave Desert? Not exactly something most people living or visiting in the region can enjoy—at Spring Mountain Ranch, this is arguably the largest, though simplest, attraction.

Reserve a large amphitheater-style area that is equipped to host 200 people, discover amazing hiking loops throughout the park (complete with charming picnic areas with featuring shade, barbecues and tables) and be sure to swing through the historic Main Ranch House for an even more detailed glimpse of the owners who once lived here. Ask about Living History Programs, Summer Theater, and special events like “Yoga on the Lawn” or “Paint with a Ranger” offered throughout the year.

InterContinental Greece brand to debut in Crete

May 18, 2022 –

IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, is proud to announce the signing of InterContinental Resort Crete – marking the luxury brand’s debut on the Greek island.

InterContinental Greece

Set to open in spring 2023, IHG is developing this unique hotel in partnership with Henderson Park, the private equity real estate firm, and Hines, the international real estate firm.

InterContinental Resort Crete will feature 205 guest rooms, all boasting private verandas – and half featuring private jacuzzies – as guests are offered the brand’s signature slice of InterContinental life while enjoying their stay in one of Europe’s leading resort destinations.

Providing idyllic views over Mirabello Bay, the hotel may be directly accessed from a seafront promenade, making it the only property in Agios Nikolaos to offer such great accessibility to its guests. It is ideally located less than an hour’s drive from Crete’s capital Heraklion, and Heraklion International Airport.

Willemijn Geels, VP Development Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “InterContinental is the world’s first and largest luxury hotel brand and has been renowned by guests as the epitome of luxury hotel experience for the past 75 years. We are delighted to be partnering with Henderson Park and Hines to introduce the brand in Crete and look forward to bringing our shared vision to life.

Philippe Couturier, Managing Director at Henderson Park, said: “Our success in attracting the InterContinental brand, one of the world’s leading luxury hotel names, to commit to this resort in Crete is a strong endorsement for its quality and appeal, as well as the huge potential we believed it offered from the outset. InterContinental Resort Crete is an exciting addition to Henderson Park and Hines’ Greek hospitality portfolio, and we hope that this agreement will mark just the first stage of building a rewarding long-term relationship with IHG at this exceptional property.”

Paul Gomopoulos, Senior Managing Director and Country Head of Hines in Greece added: “We’re proud to be working with IHG Hotels & Resorts on this truly unique property. Our joint venture has established a strong track record in the Greek hospitality market, and we are delighted to partner with IHG and look forward to harnessing the power of its global enterprise and utilising its market-leading expertise.

“With a prime location and unrivalled facilities, InterContinental Resort Crete will be the first choice of guests seeking a luxury stay on the island. There are many exciting developments planned for Crete, and we’re confident that our new hotel will be at the heart of the island.”

The interior of InterContinental Resort Crete is inspired by elements of the sea, air and rock, and enriched with local history, materials and craft, offering guests the ultimate combination of peace and relaxation. The entrance lobby, lounge and reception will feature an exposed rock face lit from above by a water-filled skylight, drawing from the island’s scenic coastal character.

When it comes to relaxing, the hotel will offer something for every guest with four restaurants, three bars and a range of facilities including a pool terrace, indoor spa, infinity pool deck and rooftop pool. There will also be a wellness and fitness leisure centre, while those looking to work can visit the extensive, fully equipped range of meeting spaces.

Crete is one of Greece’s leading destinations with more than six million visitors thanks to its picturesque beaches, pristine natural beauty, exquisite cuisine and thousands of years of culture and history, including Minoan Era sites such as the Knossos Palace.
