The 28-storey, 220-key Waldorf Astoria Sydney is now taking shape in AW One Circular Quay’s mixed-use development, One Circular Quay. From here, views take in the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.

The hotel joins a brand portfolio of more than 30 hotels, with 20 more in the pipeline, worldwide. This Sydney opening will mark the brand’s entry to Australasia and join six other Waldorf Astoria properties in the Asia Pacific region.

Waldorf Astoria hotels all promise to pair landmark locations with world-class cuisine and personalised service.

“As the first Waldorf Astoria property to debut in Australia, Waldorf Astoria Sydney signals Hilton’s commitment to expanding our luxury portfolio to the world’s most sought-after destinations,” said Matt Schuyler, chief brand officer, Hilton.

“Our highly personalised, elegant service and iconic environments are at the heart of every hotel, and we look forward to delivering unforgettable experiences to our guests in Sydney.”

Guy Phillips, senior vice president of development, Asia and Australasia, Hilton, added: “Hilton is thrilled to partner with AW One Circular Quay for the entry of the Waldorf Astoria brand into Australasia, which marks a significant milestone in the growth of our luxury portfolio.”

“The introduction of Waldorf Astoria to Sydney underscores our development strategy of organically bringing our world-class brands to discerning travellers in key global markets.”

Designed for guests and locals

With its location at 1 Alfred Street in the One Circular Quay development, Waldorf Astoria Sydney will adjoin a 61-level luxury apartment tower and place guests within walking distance of attractions including Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Royal Botanic Gardens and Museum of Contemporary Art.

The hotel is being designed by Tokyo-based Kengo Kuma & Associates and Sydney-based Crone Architects to fuse cutting-edge design with contemporary living.

On completion, the hotel will house 179 guest rooms and 41 suites reflecting the signature Waldorf Astoria aesthetic, along with an array of public spaces and the Waldorf Astoria Spa.

The property will add to Sydney’s gastronomic scene with two original restaurant concepts and a highlight of the hotel is set to be its rooftop bar commanding views over Sydney Harbour. The brand’s signature space, Peacock Alley, will serve as the hotel’s central gathering space.

Meliá Hotels Vietnam expands with Vinpearl partnership

Meliá Hotels Vietnam expands with Vinpearl partnership

April 19, 2022 – Burgeoning hotel group, Meliá Hotels International, is set to become one of the largest international hotel brands in Vietnam through a new collaboration with the country’s largest domestic hotel owner, Vinpearl.

Meliá Hotels Vietnam

Under the agreement, the leading Spanish hotel group will take over the management of 12 hotels and resorts already opened and in operation, in top destinations across the nation.

“We believe in creating strong and strategic regional partnerships with companies that have a deep connection to the locations they serve,” said Gabriel Escarrer, Vice Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International. “The Vinpearl properties and destinations at the heart of this agreement are a wonderful complement to the roots we’ve already established in Vietnam.”

Meliá’s latest move will make it the second-largest hotel group in Vietnam in terms of the number of rooms. The rapidly expanding company first entered Vietnam back in 1999 with the opening of Meliá Hanoi. They currently have six properties in operation with six hotels in the pipeline in popular tourist hotspots throughout the country. This partnership will increase Meliá’s room count in Vietnam to 8,000, boosting their numbers to 24 hotels and resorts, with 8 hotels under operation and 16 more on the way.

In addition to Meliá Hotels and Resorts, the existing portfolio includes two other brands, Sol by Meliá and INNSiDE by Meliá. In this new arrangement with Vinpearl, the properties will be known as Meliá Vinpearl hotels in order to emphasize the unique personality and strength of this partnership.

“Collaborating with international partners in running our properties will effectively facilitate Vinpearl in joining world-famous hotel networks and contribute to raising the bar for Vietnamese tourism,” said Mr Thai Thanh Nhat Quang, CEO of Vinpearl Hotel. “Through this cooperation, Vinpearl and Meliá Hotels International also expect to deliver a variety of high-class hotel service experiences to millions of domestic and international tourists.”

The global hotel brand has built a portfolio of 380 hotels in more than 40 countries since its founding in Palma De Mallorca in 1956. In Southeast Asia, Meliá currently operates 20 properties and has a pipeline of 20 hotels in Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.

“We see a huge potential for growth in Vietnam, particularly in the luxury hospitality industry,” said Ignacio Martin, Managing Director Southeast Asia at Melia Hotels International. “While COVID-19 may have brought international travel to a standstill, we are confident that the country will see growth in tourism in the future, as well as a rise in domestic travel.”

The 12 five-star Meliá Vinpearl properties will complement Meliá’s existing portfolio, by expanding into new locations. The first hotel to come into the fold was Vinpearl Quang Binh. The property is now under Meliá management and will be rebranded as Meliá Vinpearl Quang Binh in March 2022. The coastal location catapulted to fame several years back when the world’s largest cave was discovered in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. Despite this magnet, the area has been relatively untouched by international hotel brands.

Vinpearl Hotel Hue is also now under Meliá management and will be unveiled as Meliá Vinpearl Hotel Hue in May 2022. The hotel holds a prime position in Vietnam’s former imperial capital city, Hue, with views over the popular destination’s fabled Perfume River.

The other hotels under this strategic alliance include sites such as Thanh Hoa and Hai Phong near the country’s capital Hanoi; Nghe An and Ha Tinh along the North Central Coast, and Tay Ninh in the south. The group will expand under Meliá Vinpearl into locations where Meliá already has properties, such as Danang, as well as cultivating the new ground in destinations where the group currently has no presence.

The remaining 10 properties are scheduled to complete their migration into the new Melia Vinpearl portfolio under the management of Meliá Hotels International group during the first half of 2022.

Long renowned for its Spanish hospitality, Meliá intends to inculcate the same spirit of warmth and passion in every one of its Vinpearl properties. “At Meliá we prioritize each guest’s wellbeing and, through our personalized service approach, develop authentic connections with all who stay,” said Martin. “This is our way and what we will bring to each Melia Vinpearl property.”

At the same time, the group plans to elevate sustainability as a priority in each hotel. Meliá Hotels International was recently named the most sustainable hotel brand in Europe and Spain for the third consecutive year by the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment, the most comprehensive assessment in the world.

Conrad Hotels & Resorts Italy

Conrad Hotels Resorts Italy – Debuts on the Sardinian Coast

April 19, 2022 – Hilton today celebrates the opening of the highly-anticipated Conrad Chia Laguna Sardinia, marking the luxury brand’s debut in Italy. A prime location on Sardinia’s pristine coastline, the hotel overlooks Chia Bay and is nestled between the golden sands of both Monte Cogoni Beach and Dune di Campana Beach. The 107-room resort offers a secluded retreat for travelers seeking total ease and relaxation along with exclusive guest amenities and privileged access to all that the larger Chia Laguna Resort has to offer. Conrad Chia Laguna Sardinia not only marks the brand’s inaugural opening in Italy but also represents Conrad’s expanding global portfolio of distinctive hotels and resorts.

Conrad Hotels Resorts Italy

Simon Vincent, executive vice president and president, EMEA, Hilton, said, “Conrad Chia Laguna Sardinia is a stunning addition to our luxury portfolio in Europe – and Hilton’s third hotel on the island. Sardinia’s natural beauty makes it a desirable destination for discerning luxury travellers, and we’re thrilled to partner with Italian Hospitality Collection once again to introduce the hotel to Hilton’s guests from around the world. With more than 10 new hotels poised to join our Italian portfolio this year in locations including Rome, Padua and Venice, we continue to see considerable growth momentum in Italy, demonstrating the strength and resilience of Hilton’s brands in a dynamic market.”

Immersed in Nature
Perched on the southern-most tip of the Mediterranean island, the resort is surrounded by awe-inspiring natural beauty. Sand dunes, coastal flora and fauna and pink flamingos give way to both Monte Cogoni and Dune di Campana, renowned as Italy’s most beautiful beaches and found on either side of the resort. These spectacular vistas decorated with hues of natural green and blue are visible from every corner of the property – with rooms, suites, restaurants and pools boasting panoramic views across the iconic bay and lagoon. Chia is a protected habitat to wildlife and is home to countless species as well as wild herbs such as mint, rosemary and thyme which often fill the coastal air with their favourable scent.

Bringing the Outside In
The surrounding natural beauty is reflected in the property’s interior thanks to a unique design concept by Studio Marco Piva – Milanese masters of hospitality design. Inspiration comes from the hotel’s elevated coastal location above the bay with natural materials and neutral tones featured throughout resulting in a harmonious blend of elegance and Mediterranean simplicity. The approach combines contemporary design with local materials such as Sardinian “Biancone di Orosei” marble, a calcareous rock derived from ancient coral and fossils that has a subtle sandy hue. These locally sourced rocks were used to create terraces, seamlessly blending the resort into its surroundings. The hotel lobby features elements of the Sardinian culture, inviting guests to fully experience the location’s cultural background with details such as wall coverings of traditional Sardinian fabrics and furniture decorated with ropes, representing the destination’s nautical roots.

Authentic Flavours to Suit All Tastes
Conrad Hotels Resorts Italy offers something for families and couples alike, with the guest rooms divided into two areas dedicated to each type of guest, featuring dedicated swimming pools, private gardens and pathways alongside two restaurants to suit every palette. La Terrazza serves a menu of Mediterranean and international cuisine in an interactive setting where guests can observe the cooking process alongside panoramic views from the al fresco terrace. Sa Mesa – set in an olive grove – features local specialities with a contemporary twist, offering foodies an authentic experience under the twinkling Mediterranean night sky.

The on-site Conrad Spa serves as calm haven with an extensive treatment menu and rooftop solarium – where breath-taking views overlooking the entire resort and surrounding landscapes can be enjoyed from a series of pools.

Dino Michael, senior vice president and global category head, Hilton luxury brands said, “We’re thrilled to introduce Conrad Hotels & Resorts in Italy as the latest marquee opening for the brand following notable openings in Shanghai and Tulum early this year. Located in a destination famous for its turquoise coastline and picturesque mountainous views, Conrad Chia Laguna Sardinia will provide our highly discerning guests with authentic, impactful experiences through Conrad’s renowned purposeful and passionate service.”

Marcello Cicalò, group director of operations, Italian Hospitality Collection, said, “We are proud to be taking our partnership with Hilton to the next level, having begun last year with the launch of Baia di Chia Resort Sardinia, Curio Collection by Hilton. Conrad Chia Laguna Sardinia will offer exclusive, superlative experiences in a unique location brimming with history and culture, set in the magnificent natural surroundings of southern Sardinia. Our partnership with Hilton is a real boost, increasing the international profile of our resort and Sardinia as a travel destination, and providing a real opportunity to relaunch tourism on the entire island.”

Conrad Hotels Resorts Italy is part of Hilton Honors, the award-winning guest loyalty program for Hilton’s 18 distinct hotel brands. Members who book directly have access to instant benefits, including a flexible payment slider that allows members to choose nearly any combination of Points and money to book a stay, an exclusive member discount, free standard Wi-Fi and the Hilton Honors mobile app.

April 14, 2022 – Lisbon Cruise

Lisbon Cruise – Silversea’s Silver Dawn is launched

Silversea Cruises has officially named its 10th ship, Silver Dawn, in Lisbon. Executives from Royal Caribbean Group®, Silversea Cruises, and Fincantieri, as well as local dignitaries and esteemed guests, celebrated the milestone with a formal ceremony and gala dinner. An expression of Silversea’s rapid expansion, Silver Dawn becomes the cruise line’s third new ship to debut in nine months. The launch of Silver Dawn also marks the debut of Otium, travel’s most indulgent new wellness programme, as well as the next iteration of Silversea’s S.A.L.T. culinary programme.

FIRST: THE NAMING CEREMONY MARKS SILVER DAWN’S OFFICIAL DEBUT

After Royal Caribbean Group’s customary bagpipe performance, which opened the formal naming ceremony, performers took to the stage, entertaining attendees with a performance that weaved a narrative from the 2021 launch of Silver Moon to the modern day and the launch of Silver Dawn. Singers recited the national anthems of the U.S.A., Italy, and Portugal, before a religious leader blessed the ship and dignitaries delivered speeches. The newly named Godmother of Silver Dawn, Nilou Motamed—an influential food and travel editor, tastemaker, and television personality—subsequently cut the ribbon to trigger a champagne bottle to smash on the ship’shull, signalling the end of the ceremony.

“Celebrating the naming of Silver Dawn in Lisbon marked an incredibly proud moment for all involved,” said Jason Liberty, President and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group. “I thank and congratulate Roberto Martinoli and our entire team, including Captain Failla and thecrew, as well as everyone at Fincantieri, our ship building partners. Silver Dawn is a jewel in the Silversea fleet and speaks to Royal Caribbean Group’s commitment to delivering the best vacation experiences in a responsible way.”

“An evolution of our unique take on luxury, Silver Dawn is the third Silversea ship to be named in the last nine months,” said Roberto Martinoli, President & CEO, Silversea Cruises. “As well as S.A.L.T., our immersive culinary programme, Silver Dawn enriches guests’ travels with Otium, our indulgent new wellness programme, which is inspired by the ancient Roman lifestyle. She really is magnificent. I extend my gratitude to Jason Liberty and all involved at Royal Caribbean Group, as well as to the team at Silversea, Fincantieri, and Captain Failla and his crew—our most valuable asset. Moreover, I proudly welcome Nilou Motamed as the Godmother of Silver Dawn.”

NILOU MOTAMED: GODMOTHER OF SILVER DAWN

An Emmy-nominated television personality and former editor-in-chief of some of the world’s leading culinary brands, including Food & Wine and Epicurious, Nilou Motamed has been shaping the conversation in food and travel for more than 20 years. Born in Iran, raised in Paris and New York, Motamed is fluent in four languages — and believes “food is a language of its own, one in which everyone can find comfort, compassion, and community.” Her passion for culinary adventures and far-flung cuisines has found a perfect match in Silversea’s S.A.L.T. programme, which the New York resident first experienced with its launch in 2021.

“It’s a great honour to have been selected as the Godmother of Silver Dawn and to have been on board for her naming ceremony in Lisbon,” says Motamed. “Growing up in multiple countries has helped me recognize that one of our deepest common bonds, wherever we go, is food. Like many of Silversea’s guests, I always pair my cultural explorations with culinary ones. That’s why I’ve loved seeing the world through Silversea’s S.A.L.T. programme. I’ve dedicated my career to celebrating authentic, local cuisines and cultures. For me, nothing is more rewarding than connecting with people over a shared meal.”

“An authority in the world of food and drink, Nilou is a curious, intelligent traveller,” continues Martinoli. “Her mission to delve deeper into cultures through food, to truly understand places and their people, reflects that of Silversea’s culinary programme, S.A.L.T.. It is this strong spirit of discovery, this commitment to self-enrichment and complete cultural immersion, that makes Nilou the perfect Godmother for our newest ship. Aboard Silver Dawn, our guests will discover the world with purpose, while journeying in Silversea’s trademark level of comfort.”

Hungary travel restrictions

April 13, 2022 – Greece travel restrictions

Greece is to remove all remaining Covid-related travel restrictions on 2 May, in time for its peak summer tourist season. The nation joins a list of 15 other European countries, including Sweden, Madeira and Cyprus, which have dropped entry rules as infection rates stabilise.

Greece travel restrictions – To remove all remaining travel restrictions

The Mediterranean country is expecting high numbers of visitors this year, with officials predicting revenues reaching 80% of 2019 levels, a record year before the pandemic brought travel to a halt.

Measures to be removed include vaccine certificates, recovery certificates and the requirement to wear masks in indoor public places from next month.

Greece’s Minister for Health, Thanos Plevris said that Covid had stabilised in Greece, allowing the country to proceed with the suspension of the protection measures, but he emphasised that the measure were being suspended, not abolished, and that the rules would be reviewed in September.

Travellers will no longer be required to take a pre-travel test, quarantine or provide proof of vaccination to enter the country. On the ground, vistors will no longer have to wear a mask in indoor spaces such as hotel lobbies, or show vaccine certificates to gain entry to certain venues.

Greece travel restrictions

Covid infections in the country have fallen in recent weeks, with authorities recording 15,000 infections and 64 deaths on 12 April. Out of a population of 11 million, some 72% are fully vaccinated.

Greece’s summer tourism season typically begins after the Orthodox Easter, which this year falls on 24 April.

April 12, 2022 –  Fujairah Beach Resort

Emaar Hospitality Group has announced it will bring its opulent Palace brand to Fujairah. The opening of Palace Beach Resort Fujairah this quarter comes as part of the Dubai group’s expansion programme in the emirate.

Emaar Palace Fujairah Beach Resort to open in 2022

Emaar has already opened the Address Beach Resort Fujairah, which marked its debut in the emirate. The upcoming Palace Beach Resort Fujairah looks to continue this success.

Emaar Hospitality Group head of hospitality Mark Kirby explained: “Emaar Hospitality Group is setting its sights on the leading destinations within the UAE and this resort will mark its second opening in this Emirate. This is an important milestone in our journey, as we further expand our luxury portfolio with the country to cater to international visitors and residents of the UAE who have grown to know and love our brand.”

Palace Beach Resort facilities
The resort will feature 167 rooms and suites set by the beachfront. It will also feature its own kids club and a spa. Food and beverage wise, there will be Ewaan for Arabic and international dining, along with Al Bayt Lounge.

Kirby added: “With its majestic landscape combined with a rich heritage, Fujairah is fast emerging as a tourist haven that lures the most discerning travellers. We look forward to welcoming guests to experience premium luxury at Palace Beach Resort Fujairah.”

Emaar Hospitality Group on the move
A Dubai-born brand and part of the wider Emaar company, Emaar Hospitality Group, in recent years, has started to move outside its base emirate.

Emaar Hospitality Group has an intrinsic connection to Dubai. In the glistening heart of Dubai Downtown stand the likes of Address Sky View, Palace Downtown and Address Fountain Views, all Emaar properties that come together to create an iconic postcard cover.

Fujairah Beach Resort – Properties such as the Palace Beach Resort Fujairah, Vida Bahrain and Address Istanbul mark the group’s expansion outside of Dubai.

In an interview with Hotelier Middle East, in November 2021, Kirby explained: He said: “I don’t think there’s a sudden explosion of development. I think Emaar has always had a very well thought out plan. Unlike some global hotel companies, we’re not wanting to massively grow. It’s all about strategic growth. Address is a precious brand. It’s a homegrown brand and we have to treat it with care. We’re careful with who we partner with and we have to protect the brand values. Yes, it looks like a sudden explosion of openings, but it’s been planned for some time.”

With an anticipated conversion in July 2022, Royal Palm Galapagos, Curio Collection by Hilton will represent the first international hotel brand name with a presence in the destination and will adhere to Hilton’s global environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy known as Travel with Purpose.

Hilton Galapagos Island Owned by Serinatura S.A. and celebrated for its tradition and legacy in the community of the Galapagos, the existing Royal Palm Galapagos hotel immerses guests into a pristine natural environment on Santa Cruz. Royal Palm Galapagos is the only hotel with a Miconia and Escalesia Reforestation Program and a Rain Harvesting program helping to ensure the destination remains resilient for generations of travelers to come.

“At Hilton, we recognize that we have a critical responsibility to protect the communities where we serve, which is reflected in our ESG strategy, Travel with Purpose. We look forward to working with this legendary property to continue to protect this incredible destination, and to further programs that allow our guests to travel to locations such as this, sustainably and responsibly,” said Jean Garris Hand, vice president, global environmental, social and governance, Hilton.

The Hilton Effect Foundation, the company’s global philanthropic arm that seeks to advance Hilton’s Travel with Purpose goals, has been engaged in projects across the region, including partnering with organizations such as The Nature Conservancy to protect native Ecuador fish species and Galapagos Conservancy to feed and protect the critically endangered Floreana Giant Tortoise.

March 31, 2022 – New Novotel Melbourne hotel

A multi-million dollar investment to transform an existing property into a new Novotel hotel has today been unveiled.

New Novotel Melbourne hotel opens in april 2022

Developed by GCP Hospitality and operated under Accor’s midscale Novotel brand, the new Novotel Melbourne Preston emerges following an extensive refurbishment and rebrand.

Rising seven levels and offering captivating views of the Dandenong, the hotel comprises 383 guestrooms, suites and fully self-contained studio apartments and is ideally positioned on Bell Street at Preston – home to eclectic pockets of vintage shops, cafés, bars and a diverse range of restaurants.

GCP Hospitality CEO and Co-Founder, Christophe Vielle, said: “The opening of Novotel Melbourne Preston is a crucial milestone for GCP Hospitality as it demonstrates our dedication to expanding our hotel portfolio in Australia. Combining comfort, convenience and boasting a great location within easy reach of Melbourne’s CBD and top attractions, Novotel Melbourne Preston is poised to be an exciting destination for business travellers and tourists alike.”

Novotel has one of the largest international brand footprints across the Pacific with more than 40 hotels in key metropolitan and leisure destinations.

Accor Pacific CEO, Sarah Derry, said: “We are delighted to introduce our Novotel brand to Melbourne’s inner-north. Novotel Melbourne Preston is a celebration of innovative interior design, thoughtful detail and, importantly for this location, will provide great food and beverage options for our loyal guests and the local community. The hotel has been tailored to suit smart, successful business and leisure travellers who value great guest service and leading design.”

Melbourne-based architecture and design studio, Architectus, were engaged to create contemporary and sophisticated spaces throughout the hotel, including re-designed guestrooms, a designer reception and lobby area, a brand-new café Stampton & Co and restaurant The Stampton.

Taking inspiration from the intertwining lively, urban commercial area to the west of the hotel and spacious, relaxed residential area to the east, the hotel’s design context boasts a rich mixture of contrasting textures and materiality, along with a relaxed yet lively combination of colours.

The ground floor of the hotel has been activated with the addition of two new reception spaces, new grab and go Stampton & Co café, as well as an assortment of seating arrangements and furniture, offering guests a range of options from a quick set down, lounge area, co-working and informal meeting spaces, plus large meeting tables with integrated power. Finishes include custom-designed carpets, ceramic floor tiles laid in various directions, formats and tones, as well as custom timber screens, dropped timber ceilings, and curtains to define different spaces.

Guestrooms have been designed to maximise a sense of light and space, with custom design carpets and bespoke wall graphics of commissioned photography from the local area. Loose furniture adds warmth and pops of colour throughout the rooms and is reflected in the custom-designed vanities and mirrors in the bathrooms. All rooms also feature modern technology and facilities including a Smart TV, multiple USB hubs, workspace, in-room safe and minibar on demand.

The hotel will also be home to a new onsite restaurant, The Stampton, when it opens in April 2022. Serving a simple yet delicious all-day dining menu of fresh and local homestyle food with a bistro edge, the restaurant has been carefully designed to marry the rustic charm of a farmhouse with Melbourne’s urban hospitality scene. The restaurant’s comfortable and stylish indoor / outdoor spaces will transition seamlessly from day to night, and evoke a sensory experience though quality touches, handmade elements and a focus on ambience and a convivial marketplace atmosphere.

The hotel’s 16 meeting and events spaces have also been refreshed and renovated with new carpets, curtains, reupholstered chairs and an AV upgrade.

March 31, 2022 – Armani Hotels Diriyah

Armani Hotels & Resorts and Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA) have announced plans for a signature Armani Hotel to be built in the city of Diriyah within Saudi Arabia.

Armani Hotels Diriyah – new property in Saudi Arabia

With resemblance to Armani Hotels & Resorts’ current hotels in Dubai and Milan, the property will be managed by Emaar Hospitality Group.

The 300-year-old site of Diriyah is located just 15 minutes from Riyadh’s centre.

The area is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, At-Turaif, the valley and lush palm groves of Wadi Hanifah, and will soon include the Diriyah development, an acclaimed pedestrian-centric project that preserves the rich history and culture of Saudi Arabia.

Upon completion, Diriyah will comprise 13 unique districts inclusive of museums, cultural institutions, fine dining, residences, hospitality offerings, office space, retail and outdoor attractions.

“Armani Hotel Diriyah allows me to interpret my idea of lifestyle and hospitality in a particularly subtle and embracing way.

“After celebrating the tenth anniversary of the opening of the Armani Hotels in Milan and Dubai, I am ready to take on this exciting new challenge.

“I am inspired by this initiative and delighted to be part of a project of such wide geographical and cultural scope.”

Armani Hotels Diriyah – The third Armani property globally, Armani Hotel Diriyah represents a new interpretation of Armani hospitality, conversing with the unique architecture and landscape of the destination.

Armani Hotel Diriyah, developed by Diriyah in collaboration with Giorgio Armani and his in-house interior design team and the architects who are involved in the design of the development, is characterised by essential lines that enhance the precious materials utilised, and a subtle interplay of volumes, light and shadow — perfectly in line with the aesthetics and landscape of Saudi Arabia.

Jerry Inzerillo, group chief executive of Diriyah Gate Development Authority, commented: “It is an honour to partner with Armani Hotels on this prestigious project.

“Their elegant and forward-thinking approach to modern hospitality will bring a new dynamic to Diriyah’s hospitality offering and bring with it an exciting guest experience to the kingdom.

“As we develop what will become one of the world’s great gathering places, rich in culture, history and authenticity, we are proud to partner with brands such as Armani who demonstrate such a timeless approach to hospitality.”

Overlooking Diriyah’s ultra-luxury hospitality and retail quarter, the hotel will include 70 luxuriously designed rooms, two restaurants and a high-end spa, with suites having their own spa and a swimming pool, offering a variety of wellness, hospitality and relaxation experiences.

The hotel is connected to approximately 18 exclusive self-contained ultra-luxury Armani Branded Residences designed and furnished by Armani – with spacious interiors and outdoor pools, landscaped terraces and rooftops.

Abu Dhabi natural history

NEW home of Abu Dhabi natural history to be completed in 2025

Abu Dhabi natural history

March 30, 2022 – Abu Dhabi natural history –  Abu Dhabi has unveiled plans for the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, which will feature some of the rarest wonders of natural history ever found. Visitors will travel on a 13.8-billion-year journey through time and space, which will include a thought-provoking perspective into a sustainable future for planet Earth.

New home of Abu Dhabi natural history to be completed in 2025

The new museum, currently under construction and due to be completed at the end of 2025, will be located in the emirate’s Saadiyat Cultural District, which is establishing itself as one of the world’s leading cultural centres. A highlight of the new museum’s collection will be the world-famous ‘Stan’, a remarkable, mostly complete 39-foot-long (11.7 metres) Tyrannosaurus rex, which is one of the best preserved and most studied fossils of this iconic predator from the Late Cretaceous Period. Known by scientists around the world, years of scientific studies of ‘Stan’ have furthered our knowledge of countless aspects of T. rex. Now that ‘Stan’ has a new home at the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, this 67-million-year-old dinosaur will be in the care of expert scientists, and will continue to contribute to education and research and inspire future explorers.

‘Stan’ will be joined by an extraordinary Murchison Meteorite specimen, which famously crash-landed in Australia more than 40 years ago and has since revealed to scientists new information about the early solar system. Containing a huge range of organic ‘stardust’ compounds as well as pre-solar grains which formed over 7 billion years ago – long before our current solar system existed – the meteorite provides ancient insight into the very building blocks of life.

The museum’s collection will feature numerous significant artefacts as part of its curatorial vision, as well as fascinating experiences being created by a dedicated team in Abu Dhabi, supported by strategic partnerships with world leading scholars and natural history experts.

Conceived and developed by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) in partnership with Miral, Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of destinations and experiences, the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi will be a scientific research and teaching institution and an educational resource for learning about the evolving story of our planet, aiming to ignite a life-long passion for the natural world in visitors of all ages.

According to HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, nurturing awareness of how we are impacting the planet has never been more important. “Natural history has a new home in Abu Dhabi. A new museum which tells the story of our universe through some of the most incredible natural wonders known to mankind. These are awe-inspiring gifts from nature that we are proud to share with the world –  unlocking millions of years of knowledge to not only advance scientific discovery but to inspire our children to protect our planet’s future,” said HE Al Mubarak. “As we nurture a new generation of global advocates that are incredibly curious and passionate about natural history, we are fulfilling our vision to enrich lives and make Abu Dhabi the place for research, research, collaboration and discovery.”
