St. Regis headed for London following latest signing

The St. Regis London is expected to welcome its first guests in 2023, offering a highly-personalised guest experience on the corner of Bond Street and Conduit Street.

“This is a pivotal moment for St. Regis Hotels & Resorts as we bring this cherished brand to the United Kingdom.

“St. Regis offers an exquisite experience inspired by the exceptional private retreats of its founding family, the Astors, whose commitment to excellence, sophisticated style, and passion for innovation continue to define the guest experience today,” said George Fleck, vice president and global brand leader, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts.

“We are delighted to bring the brand’s timeless legacy, cherished traditions and bespoke service to one of the finest addresses in London, and look forward to becoming the city’s most glamorous destination for locals and travellers alike.”

Plans call for an extensive 90-million-pound redevelopment and transformation of the former Westbury Mayfair Hotel, with the addition of an eighth floor.

The hotel, which is expected to open with 196 elegant rooms and suites, will be designed by Peter Newman-Earp of Morrison Design with interiors by Richmond International.

Furthermore, the property is set to receive an extension to the rear of the hotel, creating enhanced public areas, along with renovations to the façade of the building and the drop-off area outside of the main entrance.

Israel allows entry of travellers

Israel allows entry of travellers

February 22 2022 – Israel will allow unvaccinated tourists entry for the first time since the pandemic began as infections and deaths caused by the coronavirus decline, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced.

Israel allows entry of travellers in 2022

“We are seeing a consistent decline in morbidity data,” Bennett said. Israel shut its borders to travellers in early 2020 as the coronavirus spread worldwide. “It is time to gradually open what we were the first in the world to close,” the Prime Minister said.

The Jewish state was also an early trailblazer of a national vaccine rollout and among the first countries to demand a vaccination certificate, which it called the green pass, to enter a range of facilities.

Under new rules taking effect on March 1, tourists will need to take a PCR test before boarding a flight to Israel and a second one upon landing. Israeli citizens will only be required to take the test upon arrival.

More than 10,000 new cases of Covid-19 were reported last week in Israel, down from a high of more than 85,000 daily cases in late January. A total of 9,841 people have died from the illness. An attempt to open the borders to vaccinated visitors last November foundered after just a few weeks because of the fast-spreading Omicron coronavirus variant.

Museum of the Future opens in Dubai

airline news

museum-of-the-future-dubai

February 22 2022 – The Museum of the Future has opened in Dubai, welcoming guests to what promises to be one of the most exiting attractions in the destination.

Museum of the Future opens in Dubai

Located next to the Emirates Towers on Sheikh Zayed Road, it opens on the historically significant 22/02/2022.

A gateway to the world 50 years from now, the landmark development will contribute to a better humanity and stronger global economy by demonstrating how next-generation solutions – incorporating everything from artificial intelligence to augmented reality – can enhance our lives.

The building is an “architectural and engineering marvel, confidently straddling the past and the future and applying advanced technology to traditional artforms,” according to authorities in the United Arab Emirates.

It also ‘speaks Arabic’ – the facade is a canvas for the poetry of sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum rendered in the calligraphy of Mattar bin Lahej.

Of the three quotes enveloping the facade, one translates to: “The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it and execute it. It isn’t something you await, but rather create.”

The form is futuristic, with the building hoping to “open a new path away from the high-rise towers that dominate skylines everywhere,” especially in Dubai.

The development was conceived by Killa Design and is composed of over 1,000 individual fiberglass and stainless-steel exterior elements.

Outside, the museum has a garden with 100 plant species reflecting the United Arab Emirates’ heritage and biodiversity.

Trees and plants, from ghaf and sidr, to palm and acacia trees, are all sprouting from the green plateau where the building stands.

A release ahead of the opening said: “The museum builds on the visionary culture that has transformed the United Arab Emirates’ into one of the most advanced nations in the world in less than 50-years.

“We are a showcase for the spirit of courage, optimism and innovation that propels Dubai forward.

“Like our home city, the museum is a place of tolerance, inviting varied cultural, philosophical, social and spiritual outlooks.

“Our goal is to provide light in dark times: in an age of anxiety and cynicism about the future, we are showing that things can and must progress.”

Furthering a global intellectual movement, the museum is also the headquarters for the city’s Great Arab Minds initiative that aims to identify 1,000 exceptional Arab talents across key fields.

The Museum of the Future is an initiative from the Dubai Future Foundation.

The organisation was formed in 2016 by sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, prime minister of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai.

The museum claims it will be a gateway to a future world, crafted by visionary designers, artists and filmmakers.

It combines elements of exhibition, immersive theatre and themed attractions.

Visitors will have the chance to engage with this game-changing technology.

Each floor of the museum is designed like an expansive, interactive movie set, brought to life by expert storytellers, technologists and visionary artists.

Topics in focus include the future of space travel and living, climate change and ecology, health, wellness and spirituality.

Aside from ground-breaking innovations, there will also be special workshops and talks from the world’s greatest minds.

Children aged three to ten can enjoy an open-world experience at the Future Heroes environment, a dedicated area designed to encourage little ones to tap into their potential.

February 18 2022 – routes-americas-to-return-to-chicago, which is held in a different location each year, brings together airlines, airports and tourism authorities to discuss air service strategy and future networks.

Routes Americas to return to Chicago next year

Over the past three years, more than 875 new air services across the Americas are connected to meetings at the event.

Having previously hosted the 2014 world route development forum, Routes World, Chicago Department of Aviation will be hosting the sixteenth edition of the regional event serving the Americas next year.

The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA), manages Chicago’s two major airports – O’Hare and Midway International Airports.

The organisation’s commitment to welcoming back visitors and ensuring sustained future growth has been shown through the large-scale investment it is making in its airports, such as the O’Hare 21 airport development programme, which includes the expansion of Terminal 5.

The move represents the largest terminal project at O’Hare International Airport since the terminal was originally built.

At Midway, a near $400 million modernization program includes upgraded concessions featuring local cuisine, a recently expanded security checkpoint and enhancements to the terminal parking garage.

Speaking at this year’s Routes Americas, Steven Small, director of Routes, said: “Renowned as a destination to do business, Chicago will be the perfect location to enable the air service development community to continue conversations that will be instrumental in defining future air connectivity.

“Routes Americas 2023 will provide a unique opportunity for the city to showcase the significant infrastructure developments to the region’s leading aviation stakeholders.”

Routes Americas will take place on March 21-23 next year at the Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk.

Interestingly, the hotel’s design draws on the West Coast Modernist movement and the culture of this part of LA, while floor-to-ceiling windows blur the lines between indoors and outdoors.

Guests will be able to experience two dining concepts by Chef José Andrés and ThinkFoodGroup: an open-air rooftop dining destination featuring a Latin- and Asian-inspired menu, as well as poolside options, and a second restaurant dedicated to Spanish flavours and southern California’s farm-fresh ingredients. Both culinary concepts are to be located on the tenth floor, close to a lobby bar celebrating the spirit of the desert and the Pacific Ocean.

Radisson hotel Madagascar properties

Radisson Blu Hotel, Antananarivo Waterfront, Radisson Hotel Antananarivo Waterfront and Radisson Serviced Apartments Antananarivo City Center all join the portfolio.

Antananarivo, is also known as “Analamanga” or the “City of Thousand” referring to the thousand soldiers appointed in the seventeenth century by the king, to protect the palace locally known as “Rova”, on the highest hill of the city.

With its palaces such as the Rova of Antananarivo dating back to the 19th century and the nearby Andafiavaratra Palace, museums, colonial-architecture, and bustling markets, it is a charming and historical city.

Located just beyond the outskirts of northern Antananarivo lies the Royal Hill of Ambohimanga, the country’s only cultural UNESCO site and a place of great significance.

It includes the ruins of a fortified royal city as well as a burial site, and it remains an important place of pilgrimage for the people of Madagascar.

Centrally located in a private area within the tree-lined waterfront, Radisson Blu Hotel, Antananarivo Waterfront is close to the recently developed premier business district which is surrounded by various shops, entertainment and businesses.

The hotel’s 168 modern rooms and suites are filled with natural light and overlook the captivating city with waterfront views.

Tim Cordon, senior area vice president, Middle East & Africa at Radisson Hotel Group, said: “We are thrilled to be opening our first three hotels in Madagascar, showcasing two of our fastest growing brands and a varied offering from hotel to serviced apartments.

“We are proud to be expanding our presence across the Indian Ocean with a collection of hotels we truly believe will have a positive impact on the Madagascan economy and together with the wonderful team at Madagascar’s tourism board, we expect to attract more travellers to this beloved island.”

Also located in Antananarivo, guests can look forward to experiencing authentic Madagascan hospitality in the 30-room Radisson Hotel Antananarivo Waterfront.

Reflecting the Radisson brand’s signature Scandinavian aesthetic, the hotel’s rooms and suites feature natural materials such as beautiful wooden details, combined with Madagascan-inspired architecture, while boasting picturesque lake and garden views.

The 56 spacious and bright studios and apartments at Radisson Serviced Apartments Antananarivo City Centre, filled with natural light and views of the surrounding hills, offer the ideal home-away-from-home for guests traveling for business, leisure or extended stays.

The convenient in-room features include a kitchenette, minifridge and flatscreen TV. With a neutral colour palette and modern touches, the studios and apartments were designed to provide the ultimate tranquillity.

February 16, 2022 – Virgin Voyages, Richard Branson’s epic new cruise line, celebrated the long-awaited grand opening of Terminal V at PortMiami yesterday, ringing in the occasion with a mermaid-studded soiree.

Both ships will sail on a mix of multi-night itineraries to some of the most irresistible destinations in the Caribbean, each with a stop at Virgin Voyages’ signature Beach Club in Bimini.

Sir Richard Branson, joined by Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Virgin Voyages’ CEO Tom McAlpin, made a splash with a memorable ribbon cutting ceremony marked by mermaid aerialists and a grand entrance via Virgin branded electric Moke vehicles.

Virgin Voyages celebrates grand opening of New Terminal V

With a street address of 718 N Cruise Blvd. – cleverly earmarked to celebrate Sir Richard Branson’s birthday on July 18 – the opening of Virgin Voyages’ own cruise terminal represents a major milestone in the brand’s history and the first time Scarlet Lady sailed from her new home.

“Coming to this beautiful new terminal and seeing Scarlet Lady in her home port here in Miami has been such an incredible experience. The team at Virgin Voyages has created a stunning building that delivers on our commitment to being better stewards of the earth with its LEED Gold Certification,” said Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group.

Terminal V, an impressive three-story building on the northwestern corner of PortMiami, brings even more magic to the city with its unobstructed skyline views of Biscayne Bay, downtown and Edgewater. Yesterday, a little more than one year after the groundbreaking ceremony, Virgin Voyages invited local city officials and brand partners to celebrate the grand opening of the 132,000 square foot structure.

“We’ve always strived to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary, and Terminal V gives us greater opportunity to elevate the Sailor experience from the moment you see the AHOY sign to the time you disembark. Scarlet Lady deserves a home as beautiful as she is, and we cannot wait for our Sailors to begin their voyage at Terminal V,” said Virgin Voyages’ CEO, Tom McAlpin.

The geometric design, a palm grove where land meets sea, was inspired by Miami’s iconic palm trees and the area’s historical origins (formerly used for harvesting coconuts). The concept was developed by the award-winning, global architecture and landscape firm Arquitectonica and built from the ground up by Suffolk Construction. Terminal V’s rooftop resembles the edges of a palm canopy with angular cutouts that allow natural light to stream through. Enveloped by more than 1,000 palm trees, Terminal V features soaring floor-to-ceiling windows, natural skylights, and lush indoor landscaping that offers Sailors both a grand and warm welcome on their voyage.

Further inspired by the brand’s design ethos of the “Modern Romance of Sailing,” Terminal V’s interiors give a nod to mid-century design and are punctuated with emerald and ruby jewel tones. The space also incorporates changing LED screens, local artwork by the nonprofit organization Art in Public Places, and an al fresco terrace for Sailors to take in the sea breeze before embarkation. Outside, an expansive “Sail the Virgin Way” sign and dramatic red lighting mirror the city’s lights.

Every Sailor is treated like a RockStar at Virgin Voyages, but for Sailors who’ve booked suite accommodations, they’ll gain access to Terminal V’s VIP entrance, expedited security screening and an exclusive pre-boarding lounge. The new cruise terminal also features a special Crew-only lounge where Virgin Voyages’ team can unwind, further demonstrating the brand’s commitment to creating the best gig ever for its employees. Rounding out the design are designated areas for drop offs, ride sharing and provisioning, all working together to provide a seamless shore-to-ship experience.

Terminal V illustrates Virgin Voyages’ commitment to preserving the environment, protecting our oceans and fulfilling its mission of creating an “Epic Sea Change for All” as one of the only LEED Gold certified buildings in PortMiami. Materials were meticulously selected with sustainability in mind, from the color of the pavers in the entrance way to the glass. Even the air conditioning and electrical systems were planned to reduce Terminal V’s impact on the planet.

Scarlet Lady, Virgin Voyages’ first ship and the winner of Cruise Critic’s “Best New Cruise Ship for 2021” Award, will call Terminal V her home year-round while Valiant Lady will join in the winter of 2022.
