December 24, 2021 – Zuiderdam – Holland America Line’s Zuiderdam Resumes Service from Port of San Diego; Second Ship from California and Sixth Back to Cruising

Holland America Line’s Zuiderdam

returned to service today from Port of San Diego in California, the second Holland America ship to resume service in San Diego since the industrywide pause.

Holland America Line’s Zuiderdam resumes cruising from San Diego today.

Zuiderdam‘s crew celebrated the return in holiday spirit with sleighbells ringing and Santa and his elves on hand to open embarkation and welcome guests back on board. Zuiderdam joins Koningsdam, which resumed service in San Diego Oct. 10. Holland America Line now has six ships cruising again in the Caribbean, Mexico and along the Pacific Coast of the United States.

“San Diego is an important homeport for us, and we are excited to have two ships back in full-time operation here with the restart of Zuiderdam today,” said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line. “We are proud to be part of the San Diego community, which has continued to show us tremendous support throughout our restart. There’s no better way to kick off Zuiderdam‘s season than with a holiday cruise full of joyful guests and our grateful crew who are happy to have them back on board.”

Zuiderdam‘s first cruise is a 10-day “Mexico and Sea of Cortez” that will be followed by Panama Canal departures and a grand 35-day South Pacific sojourn and Pacific cruise. Koningsdam sails a series of seven-day cruises to the California Coast or Mexico and two longer Hawaii voyages that run through April 3, 2022. Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam each make one call at San Diego in spring 2022.

Earlier in the week on Dec. 19, while remaining alongside at San Diego’s B-Street Cruise Terminal, Zuiderdam took part in the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights with an illuminated “Ho Ho Ho” on the ship’s side to show community support.

About Holland America Line in San Diego:
Holland America Line has been homeporting from the Port of San Diego since the 1990s. For the upcoming 2021-22 season, the cruise line will bring more than 81,000 guests to the city, which will result in more than $35 million in direct spending.

Operationally, each ship visit directly contributes $364,000 to the local economy in provisioning (fuel, food, flowers, piano tuning, supplies), port taxes, and spending. When Koningsdam and Zuiderdam call at San Diego, both ships will connect to shore power, reducing the ships’ carbon footprint.

Throughout the years, Holland America Line has been actively involved with more than 30 nonprofits in San Diego County through giving, shipboard lunches and cruise donations, including La Jolla Playhouse, San Ysidro Health and Girl Scouts San Diego.

December 22, 2021 – AIDAcosma cruise ship – AIDA cruises takes delivery of the new cruise ship.

First voyage departs February 26, 2022 // Inauguration ceremony in Hamburg on April 9, 2022

On December 21, 2021, AIDA Cruises took delivery of its newest cruise ship AIDAcosma in Bremerhaven from the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. It is the company’s second newbuilding powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) – currently the maritime sector’s most advanced technology for reducing emissions.

Felix Eichhorn, President of AIDA Cruises, said at the ceremony, “Today marks an important milestone on our journey to emission-neutral cruising. With AIDAcosma and her sister ship AIDAnova, two of the most innovative cruise ships in the world belong to our fleet in terms of sustainable cruising as well as the very special guest experience and product diversity.”

AIDAcosma cruise ship

A variety of vacation experiences await guests on board AIDAcosma. One of the highlights is the Ocean Deck. This wonderful new area extends over four decks and offers an all-round panoramic view of the sea. The extensive sunbathing area invites guests to sunbathe and chill out during the day and in the evening. The large infinity pool at the stern of the ship provides cooling.

Guests young and old have plenty to do on board – be it on the bouldering wall, on the racer, climbing the rope towers or on the balance course. The new Fun Park with its large indoor playground offers plenty of variety.

The gourmet variety too is being enriched: Summery, light delicacies are served at the Beach House Restaurant. The specialty restaurant Mamma Mia is also new and offers homemade pasta and fresh Italian cuisine with on-site service. The brewhouse gets an outdoor grill with a magnificent sea view.

In addition, AIDAcosma scores with features popular with AIDAnova, such as the Beach Club, the Theatrium with its 360° stage, the TV studio and the spacious Body & Soul Organic Spa. Culinary guests are spoiled in 17 restaurants and 23 bars and cafés.
From the end of February, Hamburg will be the first “home port” for AIDAcosma. There the first of altogether six metropolis voyages starts on February 26, 2022. The 7-day cruises can be booked now.

On April 9, 2022, the champion athlete Kristina Vogel will ceremoniously christen the new ship in Hamburg. Guests of the subsequently starting christening voyage to the Mediterranean can experience this special event on board. The two-week christening voyage, including the ceremonial christening, can also be booked from now on, taking passengers to either Mallorca (until April 23, 2022) or Barcelona (until April 22, 2022). Further highlights of the itinerary include Lisbon, Cadiz and Malaga. More details on the christening event will be announced shortly.

From April 23 to October 15, 2022, AIDAcosma will offer voyages from Palma and Barcelona. The one-week highlight itinerary “Mediterranean Treasures” will also include Florence, Rome and Corsica. In the fall, the ship sets course for its sunny winter home of Dubai.

The new AIDAcosma voyages can be booked now at travel agencies, at the AIDA Customer Center by calling 0381/202 707 07 or at www.aida.de.

Royal Caribbean Alaska

December 8, 2021 – Royal Caribbean Alaska – Announced this week that adventurers can set course for Alaska with their choice of four world-class cruise ships in summer 2023. Three bold, returning favorites, Ovation, Quantum and Radiance of the Seas, will be joined by Enchantment of the Seas to offer families and all travelers a variety of ways to experience the Last Frontier and its majestic glaciers, breathtaking wildlife and charming towns. Now open to book, the new, far-reaching lineup of 7-night cruises will sail from Seattle, Washington; Vancouver, British Columbia; and Seward, Alaska between May and September 2023.

Royal Caribbean Alaska

Following summer 2022, Royal Caribbean’s boldest Alaska season yet, the cruise line’s return in 2023 will be its second consecutive year with four ships in the region. From Mendenhall Glacier to the Inside Passage, to onboard memory-making thanks to unique experiences such as simulated skydiving on RipCord by iFly and taking in awe-inspiring views through acres of glass, vacationers have in store cool thrills from one day to the next.

Royal Caribbean Alaska – Ovation and Quantum of the Seas
Cruising from: Seattle

Both Ovation and Quantum will deliver unparalleled, signature adventures against the jaw-dropping backdrop of Alaska’s picturesque landscapes for the second consecutive summer, sailing from Seattle. Whether from North Star – a world-recordholder as the highest viewing deck on a cruise ship – or the RipCord by iFly skydiving experience, guests will have panoramic views of the scenic fjords, sweeping mountains and pristine wilderness – all from on board.

On Ovation’s cruises, departing on Fridays, travelers can discover the best of Alaska from one charming town to the next. Extended stays also offer adventure seekers more time to explore in Skagway, Alaska, where one can retrace the steps of the historic Klondike Gold Rush and visit a restored 19th-century railroad depot; and state capital Juneau, Alaska, which offers dogsledding across Mendenhall Glacier and explorations of centuries-old mining trails. Plus, vacationers can head to the road less traveled at Ward Cove near Ketchikan where they can take in the unspoiled scenery along the Tongass Narrows and the wildlife that calls it home, like sea lions, bald eagles and porpoise.

Royal Caribbean Alaska

Departing on Mondays, Quantum’s stunning itineraries will bring travelers up close to the massive Dawes Glacier after sailing through the impressive Endicott Arm, alongside visits to four coastal communities, including Ketchikan, Alaska, and Victoria, British Columbia. When heading ashore, travelers can look forward to immersing themselves in the local culture while at destinations like Sitka and Icy Strait Point, Alaska, home to the rich history of the Tlingit and activities ranging from kayak island-hopping to whale watching and fishing.

In between exploring storied destinations, guests can enjoy both award-winning ships’ memorable Royal Caribbean experiences. From the FlowRider surf simulator and rock climbing wall to the SeaPlex, the largest indoor activity complex at sea – which features bumper cars, a full-size basketball court, roller-skating rink and more – vacationers of all ages can get their adrenaline pumping. To wind things down after an action-packed day, travelers can kick back at the Vitality Spa and the indoor or outdoor pools that double as front-row seats to see the spectacular surroundings the region offers. Guests can also delight their palates with a world of flavors at restaurants like American steakhouse Chops Grille, the Asian-inspired Izumi or Jamie’s Italian before catching the cruise line’s original entertainment productions.

Royal Caribbean Alaska Radiance and Enchantment of the Seas
Cruising from: Seward and Vancouver | Vancouver

Radiance will, once again, sail alternating southbound and northbound itineraries that depart from Seward and Vancouver. Travelers will have the opportunity to discover the region’s magnificent landscapes firsthand when visiting Icy Strait Point, Sitka and Skagway, and as they sail the Inside Passage and by Hubbard Glacier.

Royal Caribbean Alaska

The thrills continue on board Radiance with an exhilarating, 40-foot-tall rock climbing wall, poolside movie nights under the stars and guest-favorite dining venues, such as Chops Grille, Giovanni’s Table and Izumi. Plus, on deck are endless views through expansive ocean-facing glass elevators and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Enchantment makes its way to the Pacific coast for its debut Alaska season, sailing roundtrip from Vancouver. Vacationers have in store more glaciers than one, Hubbard Glacier and Tracy Arm fjord, and inspiring destinations like Haines, Ketchikan – the gateway to the wild landscapes and seascapes – Skagway and Juneau.

Royal Caribbean Alaska

At each destination, guests can make lifelong memories on a variety of once-in-a-lifetime excursions. The experiences run the gamut from dogsledding in Skagway, alpine off-roading with an all-terrain vehicle, canoeing, kayaking and soaring to new heights on a helicopter ride for a bird’s-eye view of the mountains and glaciers. A day of thrills can end with unplugging and unwinding on board Enchantment at the indoor and outdoor pools and whirlpools, Vitality Spa, and a lineup of bars, lounges and restaurants – from Park Café to Chops Grille.

Aloha to the Pacific

Ovation, Quantum and Radiance of the Seas will head to the idyllic islands of Hawaii, where vacationers can discover its renowned rainforests, waterfalls and postcard-perfect beaches. On the way to Alaska, Ovation and Quantum will offer a 9- and 10-night sailing, respectively, that starts with island hopping from Oahu, Kailua-Kona and an overnight in Maui for two full days of adventure. In October 2023, Ovation will offer a 9-night cruise from the Pacific Northwest to Hawaii, complete with three island visits and an overnight in Maui. Sailing from Honolulu to Vancouver, Radiance will welcome guests to an 11-night cruise beginning with an overnight in Oahu and then continuing with visits to Maui and both the leeward and windward coasts of the Big Island, before crossing the Pacific Ocean.

December 6, 2021 – Carnival travel advisor commission – Carnival Corporation’s North American Brands Show Appreciation For Travel Advisor Community And Plan To Maintain Commission Rates Through 2023

Carnival travel advisor commission

Carnival Cruise Line, Cunard, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and Seabourn
Kick Off Holiday Season with Message of Loyalty to Travel Advisors

Kicking off the holiday season and showing its appreciation for the travel advisor community’s loyalty and commitment, Carnival Corporation’s North American brands announced today that they will maintain travel advisors’ current commission tiers earned through 2023. The five brands from the Corporation include Carnival Cruise Line, Cunard, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and Seabourn.

The lines had previously announced that commission tiers would be maintained through 2022, so today’s announcement extends this protection for an additional year.

Commissions are typically commensurate with sailed booking volumes per line. With this announcement, the five Carnival Corporation North American lines are ensuring that travel advisors will continue to earn commission at their current rates for the next two years without their commission percentage changing.

“The Carnival Corporation family of great cruise lines stands together in our commitment to support our travel advisor partners as our industry progresses to the full return to guest service,” said Arnold Donald, president and CEO of Carnival Corporation.

“In honor of the holiday season where we take the opportunity to think about all that we’re grateful for, I speak on behalf of each of our entire team when I say that we truly appreciate our continued partnership with the travel advisor community.

We are maintaining commission tiers through 2023 as one more way to thank them for their support over this last year by providing peace of mind and confidence knowing their efforts will be compensated at the rate they have worked so hard to earn.”

Carnival Cruise Line, Cunard, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and Seabourn are members of Carnival Corporation’s World’s Leading Cruise Lines family of nine cruise brands, which also includes AIDA Cruises, Costa Cruises, P&O Cruises Australia, and P&O Cruises UK.

Costa Toscana, New LNG-Powered Ship for sustainability – first cruise in March

cruise news

blank

blank

blank

blank

December 3, 2021 –Costa Toscana – Costa Cruises Takes Delivery of Costa Toscana, New LNG-Powered Ship

Costa Cruises confirms its commitment to sustainable innovation, with the Costa Group’s third ship powered by liquefied natural gas, the most advanced technology  available in the maritime industry to reduce emissions.

Costa Toscana

Costa Toscana’s first cruise will depart on 5 March 2022 from Savona, with a one-week itinerary in the Western Mediterranean.

At the Meyer shipyard in Turku (Finland), Costa Cruises has taken delivery of its newest ship,  Costa Toscana,  powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), the maritime sector’s most advanced technology for reducing emissions.

The Costa Group – which includes the Costa Cruises and AIDA Cruises brands – was the first in the world to pioneer  liquefied natural gas on cruise ships. Its LNG-powered ships include AIDAnova and Costa Smeralda, already in service; Costa Toscana, delivered today; and AIDACosma, coming soon.
LNG represents a breakthrough in improving the environmental performance of cruise ships, both at sea and during calls in ports. Its use enables the almost complete elimination of sulfur oxide emissions (zero emissions) and particulate matter (95-100% reduction), while also significantly reducing nitrogen oxide emissions (direct reduction of 85%) and CO2 (reduction of up to 20%).

“Costa Toscana reinforces our commitment to sustainable  innovation by further contributing to the use of LNG applied to cruise ships, a technology that we pioneered. It is an innovation that is part of a constantly evolving path of ecological transition. Indeed, we are also working on testing further innovations, such as fuel cells and batteries, with the aim of eventually achieving  the first cruise ship with net zero emissions,” – said Mario Zanetti, President of Costa Cruises. “At the same time, thanks to her excellent and innovative features and services, Costa Toscana will be able to attract new cruise guests,  supporting us in consolidating our presence in the Mediterranean and our gradual restart plan”.

Costa Toscana’s first cruise will depart from Savona, Italy, on March 5, 2022, with a week-long itinerary visiting Marseille, Barcelona, Valencia, Palermo and Civitavecchia/Rome. Following her debut, the new flagship will remain deployed in the Western Mediterranean throughout the year. During the summer season, she will call at Savona, Civitavecchia/Rome, Naples, Ibiza, Valencia, Marseille, while during the autumn season Palma de Mallorca will replace Ibiza.

Costa Toscana is a veritable travelling “smart city“. In addition to  being powered by LNG, the ship features a series of cutting-edge technological innovations designed to further reduce environmental impact. The entire daily water requirement is met by transforming seawater using desalination plants. Energy consumption is minimized thanks to an intelligent energy efficiency system. In addition, 100% separate waste collection and recycling of materials such as plastic, paper, glass and aluminum will be carried out on board, as part of an integrated approach aimed at implementing circular economy projects.

The driftwood used to furnish the islands of the new Archipelago restaurant has been collected thanks to the “Guardians of the Coast“, the environmental education program for the protection of the Italian coastline promoted by the Costa Crociere Foundation. For every dinner served at Archipelago, Costa Cruises will donate part of the proceeds to the Costa Cruises Foundation to support environmental and social projects.

Costa’s new flagship is a tribute to Tuscany, the result of an extraordinary creative project, curated by Adam D. Tihany, designed to enhance and bring to life in a single location the best of this wonderful Italian region, which gives its name to the ship, its decks and main public areas.

The furnishings, lighting, fabrics and accessories are all Made in Italy, and have been designed specifically for the Costa Toscana by 15 partners who are highly representative of Italian excellence. The on-board offer will fit perfectly into this extraordinary context: from the Solemio Spa to the entertainment areas; from the themed bars, in collaboration with major Italian and international brands, to the 21 restaurants and areas dedicated to the “food experience”.

Comfortable and elegant, the over 2,600 cabins also perfectly reflect Italian style and taste. The “terrace over the sea” cabin’s category will offer a splendid outbuilding where guests can have breakfast, sip an aperitif or simply enjoy the view.

South Africa cruises – demand grows too fast

cruise news

November 16, 2021 – Cape Town is struggling to keep up with the demand for the destination coming from cruise lines and passengers, said Kendra Stoffberg, chief of staff at Wesgro, a promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape.

South Africa cruises

“In the cruise season that was cancelled (because of the pandemic), there were nearly 90 ships that were booked to come into the Port of Cape Town. The previous year it had been around 60. The numbers are nearly doubling on an annual basis. We can’t develop the cruise terminal quickly enough,” Stoffberg told Cruise Industry News.

“I think it’s led by a general kind of swing that we’ve seen in tourism around the world. People are no longer just interested in ‘tick box exercise touring,’ they are really looking for more niche experiences, more offbeat locations,” she explained further.

The Cape Town Cruise Terminal was built a few years ago and recently refurbished to be able to accommodate more cruise ships at a time. At press time, the terminal had 32 ships booked to arrive from Nov. 30 through the end of May 2022.

Cruise lines scheduled to come in this season include Norwegian Cruise Line, Ponant, MSC Cruises, Azamara, Silversea Cruises, Regent, Crystal Cruises and Hapag-Lloyd. The season will be opened with the 408-passenger Europa on Nov. 30, the first ship to bring passengers to the terminal – a launch delay caused by the pandemic.

Typically, cruises from Cape Town last approximately six to 16 days, but the homeport also sees some world cruises – like the ones operated by Silversea, Cunard and Regent.

Sune’ Cornelius, Wesgro’s cruise business development manager for Western Cape, said that the target market for cruises out of South Africa varies.

“It is a mixture. Cruising is becoming a very important family holiday. It used to be that older people and wealthier people (would cruise), but I think it’s become more affordable, especially after the COVID pandemic,” she said.

According to her, Norwegian and MSC cruises typically target the South African market, while the more expensive luxury cruise lines “definitely target international cruise guests or guests that are looking for expedition cruising and world cruises.”

The country is now looking to position itself as an expedition cruise line destination, according to Stoffberg.

“We’ve got a lot of smaller ports along the coastline, which would be amazing destinations for expedition cruising. We’re looking to expand that footprint of cruise tourism so that we don’t just bring cruise ships to the standard ports of call, but capitalize on the fact that we are at a location for the more adventurous traveler, to open up a lot of those smaller ports along our coastline. That hasn’t been done before,” she said.

The draw for expedition cruise lovers is in having a large and “very different” coastline, as well as two climates, Stoffberg explained.

“We’ve got both the Mediterranean and the tropical offerings in terms of destinations,” she said. “That’s our plan going forward, to position ourselves as a destination for expedition cruising.”

Carnival news: all of its U.S.-based ships will be back in guest operations by March 2022

cruise news

November 12, 2021 – On the heels of the rave reviews of its newest ship Mardi Gras, Carnival Cruise Line today announced that its third Excel-class ship – to be named Carnival Jubilee – will be delivered in 2023 and based in Galveston, Tex.

Carnival news

The announcement about Carnival Jubilee was made the same day that Carnival confirmed that all 22 of its U.S.-based ships will be back in guest operations by March 2022. Nineteen ships had been confirmed by February, and now Carnival Sensation will restart from Mobile, Ala. effective Mar. 5, Carnival Ecstasy will restart from Jacksonville, Fla. effective Mar. 7, and Carnival Paradise will restart from Tampa, Fla. effective Mar. 12.

“Carnival was the first cruise line to offer year-round cruising from Galveston in 2000, and we have continued to grow our presence and support of the Port of Galveston’s expansion, so we are thrilled to bring our brand-new Carnival Jubilee to Texas and the greater southwest region,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “This beautiful, innovative ship will bring an entirely new cruise experience to our guests, and we’ve got some great surprises to fun it up in ways we know they are going to love.”

Carnival Jubilee will be the third in the Excel-class for Carnival, joining sisters Mardi Gras, sailing from Port Canaveral since earlier this year, and Carnival Celebration, which will be delivered in late 2022 and based in Miami. The ships utilize a liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology platform. Carnival Corp. pioneered the introduction of LNG fuel in the passenger cruise sector as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and compliance throughout its global operations. Mardi Gras is the first LNG-powered cruise ship to operate in North America, and more information about the technology can be found in this video.

However, this new Excel-class ship will not be the first Jubilee to sail from Galveston. As it gets ready to celebrate its 50th birthday in 2022, Carnival has resurrected some of the names of its previous ships that were popular with guests at the company’s inception – such as Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration, and now, Carnival Jubilee. Celebration was the first year-round ship positioned in Galveston in 2000 and was soon joined by Jubilee in 2002. So now, just more than 21 years later, this new Carnival Jubilee – four times larger than her predecessor – will make her debut at the port ushering new ways for the next generation of cruise enthusiasts to have fun.

The cruise ship will be sailing out of the Port of San Francisco to various sought-after destinations including Mexico, Hawaii, the California Coast, Alaska and the Panama Canal on five- to 15-day cruises available for booking through 2023.

“Princess is proud to have our sixth MedallionClass ship back to provide sought-after cruise vacations,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president. “It’s inspiring to see guests enjoying real vacations again, and to watch our teammates deliver such meaningful and memorable Princess vacations.”

Earlier this month another Princess cruise ship, Majestic Princess, arrived in San Francisco for an overnight port call, marking the first cruise to bring guests to San Francisco since the industry pause. Long-time partners from the Port of San Francisco welcomed the cruise line back, recognizing the financial impact to local businesses. Now, with Ruby Princess’ arrival as the city’s hometown cruise ship, small and family-owned waterfront establishments will continue to benefit.

“The Port of San Francisco is proud to be the home port of Ruby Princess,” said Elaine Forbes, Executive Director of the Port of San Francisco. “For over fifty years Princess Cruises has sailed from the Port of San Francisco connecting our local merchants, Fisherman’s Wharf, PIER 39 and our iconic City to communities all-around the world.”

Princess MedallionClass vacations deliver the ultimate in effortless, personalized cruising. It begins with the Medallion™, a quarter-sized, wearable device that enables everything from touch-free boarding to locating loved ones anywhere on the ship, as well as enhanced service like having whatever guests need, delivered directly to them, wherever they are on the ship.

In addition, guests can share their favorite cruise moments using MedallionNet, the best WiFi at sea, and also stay connected with friends and family back home, work remotely anywhere on the ship, quickly post content and stream favorite movies and shows.

All fully vaccinated guests must also produce a negative, medically observed COVID-19 test (PCR or antigen) taken within two days of their embarkation on all Princess sailings.

Cunard announces new itineraries on Queen Elizabeth for 2022

cruise news

October 28, 2021 – Cunard announces new itineraries on Queen Elizabeth for 2022. Cunard has announced that a series of new itineraries sailing on Queen Elizabeth between February and May 2022 will go on sale in November.  All sailings will depart from Southampton and will include a voyage in search of the Northern Lights, journeys to the Canary Islands and the Western Mediterranean as well as a grand voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, through the Panama Canal and on to Vancouver, Canada.

The new itineraries will replace the existing published schedule.   Cunard continues to work very closely with authorities in all the destinations visited to ensure compliance with local health and entry requirements.  Unfortunately, based on the most recent advice for cruise guests, and given the complexities of many of the international destinations involved, it will not be viable to maintain Queen Elizabeth’s existing schedule and all departures from 20 February to 17 May 2022 inclusive are now cancelled.

Cunard President Simon Palethorpe says, “We hope our guests will be inspired to find a little adventure with these new itineraries.  In a single short programme, they offer fantastic variety from the opportunity to experience the wondrous Northern Lights, to sun kissed Mediterranean shores, to a transit of the Panama Canal.

To all guests affected by the cancelled voyages we are sorry for the disappointment this will cause and we hope to welcome many back on board when we return to Japan in 2023.”

Guests booked on the affected cancelled voyages will be offered a full refund or future cruise credit worth 125% of the standard deposit terms, and 100% of any additional monies paid.

Travelers can take in four of the world’s stunning wonders along the way in Central and South America, including Chichen Itza in Cozumel, Mexico; the largest art deco sculpture in the world, Christ the Redeemer, in Rio de Janeiro – where they’ll celebrate New Year’s Eve – and the largest waterfall system on the planet, Iguazu Falls near Buenos Aires, Argentina. One of the most iconic symbols of ancient Inca civilization and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Machu Picchu, awaits in Peru, while sunshine and glamour will welcome guests in Los Angeles.

  • Middle East Treasures and Marvels of the Med Expedition
    May 9 – July 10, 2024 – Three continents, 44 destinations, four wonders
This expedition begins in glamorous Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and brings many of history’s greatest mysteries, myths and legends to life. There are also less-traveled places to explore, such as Greece’s Olympia, once a sanctuary site to honor Zeus and the location of the first Olympic games. The journey only continues to even more destinations known for their storied history — like Split, Croatia, and Cannes and Provence in France.
  • Capitals of Culture
    July 10 – Sept. 10, 2024 – Three continents, 40 destinations
The final leg of the Ultimate World Cruise is an immersive, cultural experience that begins in the Mediterranean and heads north. Museums, theaters and galleries line the streets of St. Petersburg, Russia, while larger-than-life fjords await in Norway. Guests can reflect on their epic voyage in the geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon in Iceland before visiting New York on their way back to Miami.

October 22, 2021

The Okavango Spirit, a houseboat that will give visitors a new way to view the abundant game and wildlife of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, is due to be launched in April 2022 by Natural Selection.

The houseboat will spend its nights moored along the banks of the Okavango River in an area that is recognised as being among the quietest and most peaceful in the Delta, home to numerous hippos and crocodiles.

Okavango Spirit will offer seven en-suite cabins (four doubles and three twins), each with a private viewing deck. The houseboat can accommodate 14 guests and is ideal for families with children aged six and older. The upper deck has a dining area, small lounge, bar, and sundeck.

The houseboat operates year-round and offers two- and three-night stays. Guests will be met by their guide at Shakawe airstrip in northern Botswana, a one-hour charter flight from Maun International Airport, and are then taken on the 20-minute drive to the houseboat.

Each day, guests will have the opportunity to board smaller game-viewing boats to enjoy activities in the area, including bird watching, boat safaris, and a visit to Tsodilo Hills.

Tsodilo Hills is a World Heritage Site 50km southwest of Shakawe, home to more than 4 000 San Bushman paintings. Several walking trails provide routes around the painting sites.

Guests can also cross the border into Namibia for a morning game drive in Bwabwata National Park on day three of the three-night itinerary.

It is recommended that guests pair their Okavango Spirit booking, which starts at US$7 700 for exclusive use of the boat for the first seven guests, with a stay at one of the other Okavango Delta camps nearby, also owned by Natural Selection. These include Hyena Pan Camp, Sable Alley, Skybeds (only open April-October), The Jackal & Hide, and Tuludi Camp – all located in Khwai Private Reserve – and Mapula Lodge.

Holland America Line welcomes princess Margriet as godmother

Holland America Line has confirmed that when Rotterdam is named next spring, princess Margriet of the Netherlands will be the godmother of the ship.

The news sees a continuation of a tradition that began in the 1920s.

Holland America Line’s connection to the House of Orange goes back nearly a century to prince Hendrik launching Statendam III in 1929.

Since then, members of the Dutch royal family have launched 11 more Holland America Line vessels throughout the years, including princess Margriet who named Prinsendam (1972), Nieuw Amsterdam III (1983), Rotterdam VI (1997) and Oosterdam (2003).

“We are deeply grateful that princess Margriet will once again act as godmother to a Holland America Line ship, carrying on a long tradition with the royal family that continues to honour our Dutch roots,” said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line.

“We look forward to commemorating the occasion where it all started for Holland America Line.”

The maiden cruise departs October 20th next year from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and embarks on a 14-day transatlantic journey to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
