Loyalty schemes entice flyers

As more countries open up their borders, and air travel becomes more accessible, some airlines are ramping up their frequent-flyer programmes to entice their clients back on board.

Jeffrey Harrison, Marketing Manager SA of Lufthansa Group, says air traffic and the travel industry have been affected on an unprecedented scale and, with it, all travellers are affected.

blank“We are doing our best to adapt our services and offers to the circumstances. For the most loyal members who may not have been able to earn the necessary points lately to renew their status, Miles & More offers a range of promotions and goodwill measures to its frequent flyers.”

Lufthansa has extended its Miles & More status renewal to all members, says Harrison. “If you didn’t or don’t manage to renew your status in 2020 and 2021, we will renew your status for one year until February 2023. If you achieve your status renewal by the end of 2021 as normal, your status will, of course, remain valid until February 2024. We’ll help you to do so this year with further promotions to reward your flight activities with additional HON Circle miles, and the validity of your status will be adjusted automatically until the beginning of February 2022.”

Relaunched SAA is offering a Voyager double miles promotion and extension of the validity of Voyager miles.

The airline will extend the validity of Voyager miles that are due to expire on March 31, 2022 until March 31, 2023. Simon Newton-Smith, SAA’s Interim Executive: Commercial, says the airline is looking at incentives based on Voyager miles. “We are looking to make the Voyager mile programme more flexible, and are trying to find ways to be more creative.”

Delta Air Lines CEO, Ed Bastian, in a recent letter to SkyMiles members, outlined actions, resources and policies the airline is putting in place to address challenges customers have been facing as they return to travel. Medallion Members who are currently earning status by travelling in 2021 will receive elevated benefits for the 2022 Medallion year. Delta is also extending the ability for award travel on Delta to count toward tier status until December 31, 2022. All SkyMiles members will continue to earn at an accelerated rate on most tickets until December 31, 2021.

“After an unprecedented year, we are thrilled to see so many of our loyal members back in the skies and reuniting with loved ones.”

Members of British Airways Executive Club, whose point collection renewal date is between January and March 2022, will receive another year of their current status. BA’s press office confirmed that no member would lose their tier status, regardless of how many tier points they had earned. The airline has also applied a 25% reduction in the thresholds to achieve various tiers until June 2022: 225 tier points for bronze, 450 for silver and 1 125 for gold.

October 19, 2021 – The 52 airlines that operate from Brussels Airport will serve a network of 130 European and intercontinental destinations, including several new destinations.

4 new destinations, 6 new routes

In addition to the traditionally popular destinations such as Madrid, Barcelona and Geneva, several new destinations are added to the offer. TUI fly will add Havana (Cuba) to its catalogue, while Transavia will fly to the Austrian ski resort Innsbruck. Air Belgium, which has started to operate from Brussels Airport a few days ago, has been flying between Brussels and Mauritius twice a week since 15 October. And from 15 December, the Belgian airline will connect Brussels Airport to Curaçao via Punta Cana, which is also served by TUI fly.

With several new routes departing from Brussels Airport, the capacity to certain destinations will increase: Corendon Airlines will now serve Antalya (Turkey), Las Palmas, Tenerife (Canary Islands) and Hurghada (Egypt). Brussels Airlines will also fly to Kiev (Ukraine).

Resumed flights and increased frequencies

Many airlines had to suspend flights to certain destinations during the Covid crisis. With the arrival of the winter season and the lifting of travel restrictions, several destinations are returning to Brussels Airport’s offer, such as Bangkok (Thai Airways International), Egypt (TUI fly, Brussels Airlines and Corendon Airlines), the Cape Verde Islands (TUI Fly) and Pisa (Ryanair).

Other airlines are upping the frequency to some intercontinental destinations. Air Canada will now operate a daily service to Montreal. Emirates will carry passengers from Brussels Airport to Dubai 10 times a week. And ANA will increase its service to Tokyo to two flights a week.

A great choice of destinations for all tastes!

October 19, 2021 -MORE THAN DOUBLING CAPACITY TO OFFER THE MOST SEATS OF ANY AIRLINE FROM THE UKRAINE

Wizz Air, Europe’s fastest growing and a leading low-cost airline in Ukraine, announces today its major expansion in the Ukrainian market, with a doubling of capacity.  This expansion comes as a result of Ukraine signing the Open Skies agreement with the EU yesterday, on 12 October 2021.

The airline announces allocation of 5 new modern, state-of-the-art to its base at Kyiv International Airport. The new Airbus 321 aircraft will join the fleet from the beginning of summer season. With this investment, Wizz Air is more than doubling the airline’s capacity at Kyiv International Airport offering passengers 12 new routes from Kyiv to the long-awaited destinations, such as Paris Beauvais, Brussels-Charleroi, Eindhoven, Nice, Barcelona, Madrid, Alicante, Malaga, Porto, Palma De Mallorca, Chania-Crete, and Basel Mulhouse Freiburg.

Furthermore, Wizz Air also announces the allocation of 2 new Airbus 321 aircraft at its Lviv base starting from the summer season as well. The new aircraft will support operations of 9  new routes to Paris Beauvais, Madrid, Eindhoven, Barcelona, Brussels-Charleroi, Nice, Treviso, Athens, and Thessaloniki.

With these new allocations, Wizz Air more than doubles its capacity in the Ukraine, and increases its fleet to 8 aircraft in Kyiv International Airport and to 3 aircraft in Lviv International Airport.  In addition, the airline will also invest to bring more travel opportunities for passengers traveling from Odesa and Kharkiv, as the airline is adding new routes from Odesa to London Luton, Pardubice, Athens, and from Kharkiv to Thessaloniki and Pardubice. Moreover, Wizz Air expands the frequency of 25 routes already operated from the Ukraine.  .

Seats for all routes are already available on wizzair.com or on the airline’s app for fares as low as UAH 809 / EUR 24.99*

This large-scale expansion of WIZZ operations in Ukraine will enable the airline to achieve 120% growth in summer season 2022. This will make Wizz Air the largest airline providing direct seats from the Ukraine.  The newly allocated capacity of over 1,4 million  seats per year will further contribute to the Ukrainian aviation market and to the creation of over 288 new direct jobs with Wizz Air further  supporting 1050 additional local jobs in associated industries .

Wizz Air started operations in Ukraine in 2008 and since then the airline has carried over 11 million passengers in Ukraine. By basing new aircraft at its Kyiv and Lviv bases and commencing new services, Wizz Air further underlines its commitment to Ukrainian market,  bringing truly affordable air travel services to even more travellers. With today’s announcement, WIZZ brings more all-time favourite European destinations even closer to passengers from Ukraine, offering in total 117 routes to 21 countries from 6 Ukrainian airports.

Speaking at the press conference in Kyiv, Robert Carey, President of Wizz Air Group said: “Today marks a major expansion of Wizz Air in the Ukraine and brings great news for Ukrainian travellers, as well as those who wish to visit the country. Thanks to the new EU Open Skies agreement, we are delighted to announce that we will more than double our capacity to the Ukraine, with the addition of 5 new aircraft to our base in Kyiv and 2 new aircraft in Lviv. These additional aircraft will allow us to launch  26 new routes from Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa and Kharkov and increase frequencies on 25 existing routes from the Ukraine. In total, Wizz Air will operate 117 routes to 22 countries from the Ukraine, including 11 total based aircraft.  Committed to the Ukrainian market, more based aircraft and more low fare routes mean more jobs, and more support to ramp up tourism in Ukraine.  In addition to giving more Ukrainians the chance to travel thanks to our low fares, this investment will further stimulate the local economy, and the aviation and tourism sectors.

We look forward to welcoming more passengers on board our modern aircraft with great service.”

Denys Kostrzhevsky, Head of the Board of Directors of the “Kyiv” International Airport, added:Wizz Air has been our strategic partner for many years. Today’s news is another testament to our strong relationship. We are glad together with Ukrainian citizens that from now on they will have even more opportunities to travel from IEV. And we will continue to care about the best and more comfortable service for our passengers.

Wizz Air was one of the first airlines to introduce a new era of sanitized travel, with enhanced hygiene measures to ensure the health and safety of passengers and crew across its network. Click here to view Wizz Air’s health and safety video.

By adding WIZZ Flex to a booking, passengers can rest assured that if circumstances change, or they simply wish to travel on a different date or to a different destination, that they will be able to rebook on any WIZZ flight of their choice. This provides an  extra layer of protection and peace of mind for passenger bookings during these uncertain times.

October 18, 2021 – Delta to launch new Los Angeles, New York and Orlando flights to Panama

Delta will launch new nonstop flights to Panama City, Panama (PTY), from Los Angeles and Orlando on Dec. 18, and from New York-JFK on Dec. 20. Delta will also add a second Saturday flight from Atlanta on Dec. 18.

  • Launching new Los Angeles (LAX), New York (JFK), and Orlando (MCO) service to Panama City in December 2021, plus additional flight from Atlanta (ATL)
  • New flights and increased service grows Delta’s capacity to Panama by 80% since December 2019

Delta will launch new nonstop flights to Panama City, Panama (PTY), from Los Angeles and Orlando on Dec. 18, and from New York-JFK on Dec. 20. Delta will also add a second Saturday flight from Atlanta on Dec. 18.

In total, Delta will offer 13 weekly flights between four U.S. cities and Panama this winter, the most we’ve operated to the country since launching flights in 1998.

“From its breathtaking beaches and vibrant culture to its competitive economy in Latin America, Panama is a highly sought destination for business and leisure travelers alike,” said Luciano Macagno, Delta’s Managing Director – Latin America, Caribbean and South Florida. “With our new direct flights from our L.A. and JFK hubs that offer significant U.S. connectivity, as well as the demand from the local Orlando community, we’re looking forward to introducing Delta’s signature hospitality and exceptional onboard experience to more customers planning their next trip.”

Customers transiting through LAX can connect to 48 U.S. cities, while JFK offers flights to 46 U.S. cities. At LAX, Delta is investing $1.86 billion to modernize and upgrade Terminals 2 and 3 and connect them to the Tom Bradley International Terminal. The central head house is set to open in Q1 2022. Additionally, the Delta-funded JFK Terminal 4 redevelopment program will make JFK travel more convenient for customers by summer 2023 – with 10 new gates, an additional domestic baggage claim carousel and the consolidation of all of Delta’s JFK operations into Terminal 4.

New L.A. and Orlando service – Delta’s only international flight at MCO – will both operate once-weekly on the 199-seat Boeing 757 aircraft and the 180-seat Boeing 737-900, respectively. New JFK service will operate on the 160-seat Boeing 737-800 three times per week, increasing to four times in March 2022.

In addition to Main Cabin, all aircraft offer a spacious First Class cabin and extra legroom in Delta Comfort+. All customers will enjoy in-seat power outlets for their devices, Wi-Fi available for purchase and free mobile messaging, and personal seat-back entertainment screens featuring a wealth of premium content, including curated playlists and podcasts from Delta’s partnership with Spotify.

QANTAS BRINGS FORWARD INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS TO 1 NOVEMBER

airline news

blank

blank

blank

blank

October 15, 2021 – Qantas will bring forward the restart of its international flights by two weeks to 1 November 2021 after the Federal and New South Wales governments today confirmed borders will now reopen on that date.

The national carrier has also welcomed the decision by the NSW Government to remove quarantine arrangements for fully vaccinated arrivals, which is in line with many countries around the world.

Qantas will operate up to five return flights a week from Sydney to London and up to four return flights a week from Sydney to Los Angeles with its Boeing 787 Dreamliners from 1 November. More flights will be added to meet demand, if needed. Flights to London will operate via Darwin until at least April 2022.

These initial flights are limited to Australian citizens, permanent residents and their immediate families and parents in line with Australian Government requirements.

Flights to other destinations including Singapore, Fiji and Vancouver are still scheduled to commence from 18 December 2021 with other destinations to restart in the new year – however, in light of the shift to remove quarantine requirements for fully vaccinated travelers arriving in New South Wales, the Qantas Group is looking at bringing forward some additional destinations from Sydney if possible.

Flights from 1 November are now on sale. Passengers who have already booked to travel to and from Los Angeles or London and want to travel earlier can make a fee-free date change to their flight on the ‘manage my booking’ section of qantas.com (a fare difference may apply).

CEO COMMENTS

Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said: “Bringing forward the reopening of Australia to the world and removing quarantine requirements for fully vaccinated travelers entering New South Wales is a massive step towards life as we knew it.

“In just a little over two weeks, Australians around the world can fly into Sydney and people from around Australia can leave on trips they’ve been waiting almost two years to take. We hope other states will do the same once they reach the 80 per cent target.

“We have thousands of our pilots and cabin crew wanting to get back to work and they will be thrilled at today’s announcement. It will still be a long time before international travel returns to normal but this is a fantastic start

United Plans Largest Transatlantic Expansion in its History, Including 10 New Flights and Five New Destinations Debuting Summer 2022

airline news

blank

blank

blank

blank

October 15, 2021, Airline sets course to destinations not served by any other North American carrier in Amman, Jordan; Azores, Portugal; Bergen, Norway; Palma de Mallorca, Spain and Tenerife, Spain

United today announced the largest transatlantic expansion in its history, including 10 new flights and five new, vogue destinations – Amman, Jordan; Bergen, Norway; Azores, Portugal; Palma de Mallorca, Spain and Tenerife in the Spanish Canary Islands. All of the new routes – which are set to begin in Spring 2022 – are not served by any other North American carrier. Additionally, next year, United will add new flights to five popular European destinations: Berlin, Dublin, Milan, Munich and Rome. Lastly, United will launch seven routes that were interrupted due to the pandemic to Bangalore, Frankfurt, Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, Nice and Zurich. Flights are subject to government approval.

“Given our big expectations for a rebound in travel to Europe for summer, this is the right time to leverage our leading global network in new, exciting ways,” said Patrick Quayle, senior vice president of international network and alliances at United. “Our expansion offers the widest range of destinations to discover – introducing new, trendy locales that our customers will love, as well as adding more flights to iconic, popular cities.”

Amman, Jordan

United will begin new capital to capital service between Washington, D.C. and Amman, Jordan starting May 5. Customers will be able to explore the numerous historical sites in and around Amman, as well as visit Jordan’s other top destinations including Petra, the Dead Sea and the Wadi Rum desert. United will be the only North American carrier flying direct to Amman with service three times weekly with a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal

United will add a third Portuguese destination to its global network with brand new flights between New York/Newark and Ponta Delgada in the Azores beginning May 13. The carrier will offer the most flights between the U.S. and Portugal of any North American airline and will be the only airline to fly to the Azores from the New York metro area. This daily service joins United’s existing flights to Porto, which will return in March, and Lisbon, which the airline is currently operating from New York/Newark and will resume from Washington, D.C. next summer. United will fly a brand-new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft featuring United’s new signature interior with enhanced seat back entertainment with Bluetooth connectivity and overhead bin space for every customer.

Bergen, Norway

Beginning May 20, United will become the only U.S. carrier to fly to Norway with flights launching between New York/Newark and Bergen. United will offer three times weekly service on a Boeing 757-200, allowing customers to experience Bergen’s surrounding mountainous landscape and breathtaking fjords. United will be the only carrier to fly to Bergen from the U.S.

Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain

United is expanding its Spanish beach getaway destinations with three times weekly flights between New York/Newark and Palma de Mallorca in the Balearic Islands, launching June 2 with a Boeing 767-300ER. This will be the first and only flight between the U.S. and Mallorca and will add to United’s existing service to Madrid and Barcelona.

Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain

Travelers looking for an additional new beach destination can enjoy the stunning black and white sand beaches of Spain’s Canary Islands with United’s new flight from New York/Newark to Tenerife. United will be the only airline to fly direct between the Canary Islands and North America with three-times weekly service launching June 9 with a Boeing 757-200. Along with the new service to Palma de Mallorca, United will fly to more Spanish destinations from North America than any other airline.

Expanded European Service

United is also adding flights to some of Europe’s most iconic cities in anticipation of a resurgence in visitors. Next spring United will add:

  • New daily flights between Denver and Munich – joining existing service from Denver to Frankfurt and London which is expected to resume in March. United is the only U.S. airline to offer transatlantic service from Denver.
  • New daily flights between Chicago and Milan, joining existing seasonal flights between Chicago and Rome. United will be the only airline to offer a direct flight between Chicago and Milan, adding to its existing service between New York/Newark and Milan.
  • New daily capital to capital service between Washington, D.C. and Berlin, joining our other service to Berlin from New York/Newark. United is the only U.S. airline with direct flights to Berlin.
  • An additional daily flight from New York/Newark to Dublin and Rome.

Three weeks before inaugural flight: pent-up demand for Eurowings offer to Prague

airline news

blank

blank

blank

blank

October 14, 2021 – Germany’s largest holiday airline ready to start services from Prague on 31 October

  • Thousands of tickets already sold in the Czech Republic: for individuals and local tour operators

  • Germany’s largest vacation airline will initially offer 14 new nonstop connections from Prague for holidaymakers and business travelers

  • The Czech Republic’s top favorites for the current autumn/winter season: Canary Islands and southern Spain

  • Eurowings the first airline to return to radio and television advertising in the Czech Republic

  • Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof: “We offer top quality products and services at affordable prices”

Eurowings has successfully started spreading its wings in Prague: shortly after flights were available for booking, Germany’s largest holiday airline already sold thousands of tickets in the Czech Republic to private and business travelers as well as local tour operators. Eurowings will open a new base of operations in the Czech capital at the end of October 2021 and initially offer 14 new nonstop flights from Prague. The first flights will take off on 31 October from Prague to Fuerteventura and Bristol (UK).

The Czech Republic’s top favorites for the current autumn and winter season are the Canary Islands and Southern Spain. The highest Eurowings bookings from Prague to date include Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Málaga. Connections to Athens (Greece), Barcelona (Spain) and Copenhagen (Denmark) are also very popular as people remain eager to travel.

Eurowings flights can be booked from €29.99 (764 CZK) with just a few clicks on the eurowings.com website or via the Eurowings app. A local Eurowings website will shortly be launched meaning all Eurowings flights will be available for booking in the Czech language soon.

“We are very pleased that our new offers have been so well received from day one. This boosts our confidence that we have exactly made the right choice with launching our operations from such a highly attractive city like Prague,” said Jens Bischof, CEO of Eurowings. “Eurowings will offer Czech customers top quality products and services at affordable prices to serve the existing pent-up demand for flights,” Bischof emphasized.

Innovative new services such as customers being able to choose a free middle seat (starting at €10/254 CZK) next to them have bolstered Eurowings’ top position among the European airlines. “Customers across Europe appreciate having a little more breathing room at their seat, whether for reasons of comfort or hygiene,” said Bischof. “The empty middle seat brings a feeling of business class even to back rows and has already been booked by Czech customers several hundred times just in the last few weeks.” Eurowings is the first airline to return to radio and television advertising in the Czech Republic since the start of the pandemic. The airline will invest more than 1 million Euros (25 mio. CZK) across several advertising channels to support its market launch in Prague.

The free middle seat, super-flexible rebooking options (up to 40 minutes before departure) and all the other customer benefits Eurowings is offering do not go unrecognized.  Just recently, the Lufthansa Group airline was awarded “Triple Gold” at the German Customer Awards: for best price-performance ratio, best customer service and highest customer satisfaction ratings.

October 14, 2021 – Riga. The most popular airBaltic destinations for the upcoming winter season are Dubai, Tenerife and Lisbon. Overall, Paris and Berlin remain among the most popular year-round destinations of the company.

Martin Gauss, Chief Executive Officer of airBaltic: “Today travelling in Europe is once again possible, and a growing number of passengers are already planning their trips up to two months in advance and more. While offering safe flying experience, we hope to see the trend of high passenger demand continuing into the coming winter season.”

In addition, an increasing number of passengers have made reservations for winter skiing trips. Top skiing destinations include Munich, Milan or Geneva among others.

Currently airBaltic offers more than 70 direct destinations from Riga. airBaltic launched direct flights between Riga and sunny Tenerife (Spain) on September 4 and to Dubai (United Arab Emirates) on September 27.

Latvian airline airBaltic announces that it will introduce mandatory Covid-19 vaccination for its entire staff as of November 15, 2021. As vaccination rates grow across the world, the airline sees that as the fastest way out of the pandemic.

Martin Gauss, Chief Executive Officer of airBaltic: “We will go for 100% mandatory vaccination of all our staff by November 15. We are proud that already 87% of our employees are vaccinated or immune against Covid-19. airBaltic has a 5-star Covid-19 safety rating, and we aim to continue to provide the safest flying experience not only for our passengers but also for our employees.”

This decision will also ensure undisrupted operations as an increasing number of countries require proof of vaccination for air crews. As of November 15, if the employee is unable to present the relevant Covid-19 or recovery certificate, the staff member will be suspended from work without pay.

Overall, airBaltic currently employs 1 366 people, including 200 pilots and 342 cabin crew. airBaltic was among the first companies in Latvia to implement state-provided Covid-19 vaccination at the workplace.

Health and safety:

The safety and health of our passengers is airBaltic’s top priority. airBaltic has introduced strong health measures and the flight operations follow the recommendations issued by authorities. To read more about the airBaltic health measures, please visit airBaltic website: https://www.airbaltic.com/en/health-measures.

New Ryanair Base At Venice Marco Polo Airport

airline news

blank

blank

blank

blank

October 14, 2021 – Ryanair, Europe and Italy’s No.1 airline, today (6th Oct) announced its newest Italian base in Venice Marco Polo with three new Boeing 737 8-200 “Gamechanger” based aircraft, representing an investment of $300m alongside the introduction of 18 new routes (24 total) significantly enhancing Venice’s domestic & international connectivity to 12 European countries from Summer 2022.

Ryanair’s new Venice Marco Polo base will deliver:

  • Three new 737 “Gamechanger” based aircraft ($300m investment)
  • 100 new direct jobs
  • 18 new routes
  • 24 routes in total (16 international / 8 domestic)
  • Over 160 departing flights per week

Ryanair’s new base at Venice Marco Polo represents our commitment to the Veneto region, where Ryanair has already opened a two aircraft base this year in Venice Treviso (operating 48 routes) and Verona Airport with today’s announcement of 2 new routes to Porto and Palma from Summer 2022. Today’s annocument further demonstrates Ryanair’s ability to rebuild the Veneto region’s tourism industry as we will now operate 86 routes from Summer 2022 at Venice Marco Polo, Venice Treviso and Verona.

With 24 routes to choose from at Venice Marco Polo, passengers can now book a well-deserved summer getaway, flying at the lowest fares to exciting destinations such as Barcelona, Gdańsk, Helsinki, Lisbon, and Stockholm. To celebrate the opening of its new Venice Marco Polo base, Ryanair has launched a seat sale with fares available from just €19.99, which must be booked by midnight Friday, 8th October, only on the Ryanair.com website.

Ryanair’s Director of Commercial, Jason McGuinness, said:

As Europe and Italy’s largest airline, we are delighted to open our newest Italian base at Venice Marco Polo with three new 737 “Gamechanger” aircraft, further strengthening the long-standing cooperation between Ryanair and the SAVE Group. Today’s announcement of 86 routes (20 new) for the Veneto region demonstrates Ryanair’s ability to rapidly rebuild Italian tourism.

As Ryanair takes delivery of 55 new B737 8-200 ‘Gamechanger’ aircraft this winter, we are delighted to announce that three of these will be based in Venice Marco Polo for Summer 2022, which represents a $300m investment in Venice Marco Polo Airport. These new aircraft will deliver a total of 24 destinations, including 18 new connections and 100 new jobs in an environmentally sustainable manner.

As consumer confidence returns, we call on the Italian Government to scrap the municipal tax for all Italian airports, which is damaging the competitiveness of Italian airports versus their European counterparts. The axing of this tax would facilitate a rapid recovery in Italian air traffic and jobs thanks to Ryanair’s low fares and long-term growth plan.

To celebrate our new Venice Marco Polo base, we are launching an unmissable seat sale, with prices starting from just €19.99 (available until midnight Friday, 8th Oct). A much-deserved getaway is only a click away, so to avoid disappointment, we advise customers to act fast and book directly on www.ryanair.com before these amazing low fares are snapped up!

Camillo Bozzolo, Commercial Director Aviation SAVE Group, said:

“The activation of Ryanair’s new base in Venice strengthens the carrier’s presence in our territory, accelerating the resumption of traffic started at the beginning of June with the opening of the Treviso base. For the SAVE Group, this represents confirmation of the centrality of the airports managed in the development strategies of the main carriers, which will speed up the recovery of pre-pandemic traffic volumes.

Thanks to the 3 aircraft that will be based at Marco Polo, the offer of outgoing destinations aimed at our catchment area will expand, thus connecting more and more niche destinations that will enrich the network of destinations served by the airport.”

IATA Travel Pass Adds Six More airlines

airline news

blank

blank

blank

blank

October 13, 2021 – Etihad Airways, Jazeera Airways, Jetstar, Qantas, Qatar Airways and Royal Jordanian have announced that they will be implementing the IATA Travel Pass in a phased rollout across their networks.

The five carriers join Emirates Airline as IATA Travel Pass implementation pioneers.

IATA’s director general, Willie Walsh said that: “After months of testing, IATA Travel Pass is now entering the operational phase. The app has proven itself to be an effective tool to manage the complex mess of travel health credentials that governments require. And it’s a great vote of confidence that some of the world’s best known airline brands will be making it available to their customers over the coming months.”

IATA Travel Pass is a mobile app that can receive and verify a range of COVID-19 test results and digital vaccines certificates. Currently vaccine certificates from 52 countries (representing the source of 56% of global air travel) can be managed using the app. This will increase to 74 countries, representing 85% of global traffic, by the end of November.

Go to www.iata.org for more.

Download of IATA Travel Pass app

The IATA Travel Pass app is now available for download on the Apple Store and Google Play but travelers will not be able to use it unless their airline is part of a trial. If your airline is participating in one of these trials, they can provide you with instructions on how to use IATA Travel Pass.

Join the IATA Travel Pass Initiative

Please complete this form if you are an airline or a laboratory and you would like to join the IATA Travel Pass initiative.

How it helps?

The IATA Travel Pass provides:

  • Governments with the means to verify the authenticity of tests or vaccinations and the identity of those presenting their certificates.
  • Airlines with the ability to provide accurate information to their passengers on test requirements and verify that a passenger meets the requirements for travel.
  • Laboratories with the means to issue certificates to passengers that will be recognized by governments, and
  • Travelers with accurate information on test requirements, where they can get tested or vaccinated, and the means to securely convey the results/certificates to airlines and border authorities

How it works?

IATA Travel Pass is a mobile app that helps travelers to store and manage their verified certifications for COVID-19 tests or vaccines. It is more secure and efficient than current paper processes used to manage health requirements (the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis, for example). This is important given the potentially enormous scale of testing or vaccine verifications that will need to be securely managed.

IATA Travel Pass Initiative

To re-open borders without quarantine and restart aviation governments need to be confident that they are effectively mitigating the risk of importing COVID-19. This means having accurate information on passengers’ COVID-19 health status.

Informing passengers on what tests, vaccines and other measures they require prior to travel, details on where they can get tested and giving them the ability to share their tests and vaccination results in a verifiable, safe and privacy-protecting manner is the key to giving governments the confidence to open borders.

To address this challenge IATA has launched IATA Travel Pass.

IATA Travel Pass consists of four key modules:

MODULES FUNCTIONALITIES
Registry of Health Requirements
  • Enables passengers to find information on travel, testing and vaccine requirements for their journey
  • Powered by IATA Timatic
Registry of testing/vaccination centers
  • Enables passengers to find testing centers and labs at their departure and/or arrival location that can conduct COVID-19 tests in accordance with the type of test required for their journey
Lab App
  • Enables authorized labs and test centers to securely send test results or vaccination certificates to passengers
Travel PASS App
  • Enables passengers to (1) create a ‘digital passport’, (2) verify their test/vaccination meets the regulations & (3) shares test or vaccination certificates with authorities to facilitate travel.
  • Can be used by travelers to manage travel documentation digitally and seamlessly throughout the travel experience.

October 8, 2021 – India’s Jet Airways could return to the skies by early next year, according to an investor consortium that is pulling the carrier out of insolvency.

“Jet Airways 2.0” plans to begin domestic operations, starting with service between Delhi and Mumbai, in the first quarter of 2022, according to Murari Lal Jalan, lead member of the Jalan Kalrock Consortium, consisting of Dubai-based Jalan and London-based Kalrock Capital. Short-haul international operations would follow in the back half of 2022.

Jet Airways, then India’s second-largest carrier, suspended all operations in April 2019 due to lack of funding. The Jalan Kalrock Consortium had the winning bid to acquire the airline, and its resolution plan was approved this summer by the National Company Law Tribunal.

The consortium’s plans are to have 50 aircraft for Jet Airways within three years and more than 100 in the next five years, according to Jalan. It already has hired more than 150 employees and plans to add more than 1,000 more over the next fiscal year.

The new Jet Airways will be headquartered in Delhi rather than Mumbai, its previous headquarters location.

October 8, 2021, Customers of both airlines will benefit from convenient access to more than 65 global codeshare destinations

RwandAir’s new Kigali – Doha nonstop flights from December will provide a seamless travel experience connecting Africa to the world

Doha, Qatar – Qatar Airways and RwandAir have signed a comprehensive codeshare agreement to offer travellers more choice, enhanced service and greater connectivity to more than 65 destinations across Africa and the rest of the world. As part of the deal, the Rwandan flag carrier will also launch new non-stop flights between their Kigali hub and Doha from December.

The agreement benefits travellers from across the globe who fly with both airlines, which expands each carrier’s route network. Passengers can enjoy the simplicity of purchasing connecting flights on both airlines using one seamless reservation system, that simplifies ticketing, check-in, boarding and baggage-check processes for the entire journey.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said “We share a very close and collaborative bond with Rwanda and welcome RwandAir’s new non-stop service between Kigali and our home in Doha. With this comprehensive codeshare agreement, we are committed to deliver greater choice and connectivity to our customers in Africa and around the world. The new partnership will help position Qatar Airways in the region and complement our African expansion strategy. As we brace ourselves to meet significantly increased demand for long-awaited travel, I see dynamic partnerships like this one helping to steer travel, tourism and trade firmly on the path to recovery.”

RwandAir Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Yvonne Makolo, said: “This is a major milestone for RwandAir and marks the beginning of an exciting new journey with Qatar Airways. We are also immensely proud to welcome Doha to our route network, connecting customers with Qatar’s hub and further expanding their flight map.

“This codeshare agreement will give our customers significantly more choice and flexibility, allowing RwandAir to strengthen its global presence and build on its strong and loyal African customer base.

As we continue to grow out of the pandemic, this partnership represents yet another extremely important step on our recovery runway, and we hope to deliver more commitments like this to our customers in the very near future.”

The new codeshare partnership will enable customers to book attractive offers across different continents like the U.S., Europe and Asia, and enable customers to fly to different cities like New York, Washington D.C., Dallas and Los Angeles, London, Zurich and Madrid, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. The agreement will further increase Qatar Airways’ footprint in Africa, with access to destinations such as Bujumbura, Kinshasa and Lubumbashi.

Additionally, the airlines recently announced loyalty partnerships giving RwandAir Dream Miles and Qatar Airways Privilege Club loyalty members access to each other’s destinations with the opportunity to accrue and redeem miles across their reciprocal route networks. Customers will also have access to the airlines’ airport lounges at their hubs in Doha and Kigali.

The national carrier of the State of Qatar continues to rebuild its network, which currently stands at over 140 destinations. With more frequencies being added to key hubs, Qatar Airways offers unrivalled connectivity to passengers, making it easy for them to change their travel dates or destination as required.

A multiple award-winning airline, Qatar Airways was announced as the ‘Airline of the Year’ at the 2021 World Airline Awards, managed by the international air transport rating organisation, Skytrax. It was also named ‘World’s Best Business Class’, ‘World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge’, ‘World’s Best Business Class Airline Seat’, ‘World’s Best Business Class Onboard Catering’ and ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’. The airline continues to stand alone at the top of the industry having now won the main prize for an unprecedented sixth time (2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2019 and now 2021). The airline’s hub, Hamad International Airport (HIA), was recently recognised as the ‘Best Airport in the World 2021’, by the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2021.

In addition to this, Qatar Airways has become the first global airline to achieve the prestigious 5-Star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating by Skytrax. This follows the success of HIA as the first airport in the Middle East and Asia to be awarded a Skytrax 5-Star COVID-19 Airport Safety Rating. These awards provide assurance to passengers across the world that the airline’s health and safety standards are subject to the highest possible standards of professional, independent scrutiny and assessment.
