IHG® Hotels & Resorts, one of the world’s leading hotel companies, has announced the signing of a Management Agreement with Dallah Real Estate Company for a Hotel Indigo Jeddah – Resort in Durrat Al Arus. With this signing, IHG continues to expand its lifestyle portfolio in the country to cater to the future demand from new guest segments, seeking authentic Arabian experiences through Hotel Indigo’s neighbourhood story. No two hotel Indigo can be the same, as each has its own specific neighbourhood story embedded in the design, food and service. 

Due to open in early 2026, the Hotel Indigo Jeddah Resort will be located in Durrat Al Arus, a recreational neighborhood north of Jeddah, and will be a leisurely drive away from the main city. The resort will be a part of a mixed-use development project consisting of a budding residential community, vast water frontage and man-made lagoons. Located along the Red Sea Coast, Hotel Indigo Resort in Durrat Al Arus will also be a perfect destination for guests to enjoy an active waterfront.

IHG and Dallah Real Estate Company, will work in collaboration with renowned design studios and research agencies to weave the ‘Neighbourhood Story’ into the DNA of the hotel. The unique aesthetics of the resort and its service styles will immerse guests into the authenticity of the destination, its local culture, character and history.

Along with boldly-designed 271 rooms, the resort will also feature 50 private pool villas, an expansive wellness facility, and home-grown food and beverage concepts that will not only offer a unique perspective to dining in Saudi Arabia – but also catch the interests of foodies and critics alike.

Staying true to engaging with the neighbourhood, Dallah Real Estate Company has also partnered with 17Sixty – a marine adventure company that will enable the guests of Hotel Indigo, and residents of Jeddah, to experience marine flora and fauna like never before, keeping sustainability at its core. The company will also provide thrilling water sports activities to the guests.

New international and domestic destinations announced by American from New York and Boston, including new long-haul service to Doha, Qatar.

Starting next summer, American and JetBlue will fully co-locate at LaGuardia’s new Terminal B, making it easy for customers to connect between both airlines.

FORT WORTH, Texas — JetBlue (NASDAQ: JBLU) and American Airlines (NASDAQ: AAL) today announced that customers in New York and Boston will have more reasons to make the Northeast Alliance (NEA) their preferred travel provider as the airlines add new routes, improved schedules and enhanced product offerings. Nine new routes go on sale this week across both airlines in New York and Boston. With these new routes, the NEA offers more frequencies in New York and Boston than any other airline.

“A new year brings new opportunities for the Northeast Alliance to add more JetBlue flying in New York and Boston and to deliver on the customer benefits we’ve promised since first announcing this innovative partnership,” said Joanna Geraghty, JetBlue’s president and chief operating officer. “As we look ahead to 2022, the NEA is poised to deliver incredible growth, which will bring more of our award-winning service and low fares to travelers in the Northeast as, together with American, we create a true third competitor in the region.”

Record-setting service in New York and Boston

With the addition of new destinations, new markets and added frequencies on variety of existing routes in New York and Boston, JetBlue and American are on track for a record-setting year in the Northeast in summer 2022.

“As we welcome customers back to travel, the Northeast Alliance is delivering on promises to offer customers more choices and travel benefits,” said Robert Isom, American Airlines president. “We’re excited to offer our New York and Boston customers even more frequencies and destinations when they travel next year.”

At New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), the NEA will offer up to 300 daily departures. Along with the introduction of JetBlue’s new Vancouver service, the airline will also add frequencies on a variety of existing routes between JFK and:

  • Aruba (AUA): Up to 4x daily.
  • Atlanta (ATL): Up to 4x daily.
  • Cancun, Mexico (CUN): Up to 4x daily.
  • Detroit (DTW): Up to 2x daily.
  • Guayaquil, Ecuador (GYE): Up to 2x daily.
  • Kingston, Jamaica (KIN): Up to 5x daily.
  • Minneapolis–St. Paul (MSP): Up to 2x daily.
  • Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ): Up to 4x daily.
  • Raleigh–Durham, North Carolina (RDU): Up to 3x daily.
  • Saint Lucia (UVF): Up to 2x daily.
  • Providenciales, Turks and Caicos (PLS): Up to 2x daily.

As part of the customer-focused NEA, in 2022, American will enhance its global reach with new nonstop service between JFK and Doha, Qatar’s Hamad International Airport (DOH), becoming the only U.S.-based carrier to serve the Middle Eastern destination.

In the past year, American has provided New York customers with new international travel options, including JFK to Santiago, Chile (SCL); Tel Aviv, Israel (TLV); Athens, Greece (ATH) and Delhi, India (DEL).

At LGA, the NEA will offer nearly 200 daily departures, which includes JetBlue tripling their departures compared to 2019. Along with the introduction of JetBlue’s new Portland, Maine (PWM), service, the airline will also add frequencies on a variety of existing routes between LGA and:

  • Boston (BOS): Up to 15x daily.
  • Charleston, South Carolina (CHS): Up to 3x daily.
  • Jacksonville, Florida (JAX): Up to 3x daily.
  • Nashville, Tennessee (BNA): Up to 3x daily.
  • New Orleans (MSY): Up to 2x daily.
  • Orlando, Florida (MCO): Up to 5x daily.
  • Tampa, Florida (TPA): Up to 3x daily.
  • Savannah, Georgia (SAV): Up to 2x daily.

American has also added new LGA routes to Houston (IAH); Kansas City, Missouri (MCI); Oklahoma City (OKC); and Omaha, Nebraska (OMA). The airline has also added more seats to routes to St. Louis (STL), RDU and BNA. Bolstered by the NEA, American has strengthened its offering at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) with better frequencies to hub airports.

As part of the LaGuardia redevelopment project, American is completing its move of operations to the new Terminal B, Western Concourse starting today. The airline will no longer operate out of the old Central Terminal Building, which has been home to American’s operation since the 1960s. Additionally, JetBlue will be fully operating out of LaGuardia’s Terminal B when completed in summer 2022, providing easy connections for customers traveling on the Northeast Alliance. The LaGuardia Terminal B redevelopment includes a new 1.3-million-square-foot terminal with 35 gates, an array of New York City-inspired shops and dining options, permanent pieces of art by leading artists, and a one-of-a-kind water feature.

Beginning in June, customers in Boston will enjoy greater connectivity with six new U.S. domestic routes and two new options to Canada. With these new routes, the NEA will serve 46 of the top 50 U.S. domestic mainland markets from Boston. Tickets will be available for sale starting Dec. 20.

In Boston, American today announced new nonstop service operated on Embraer E175 aircraft between Boston and:

  • Halifax, Nova Scotia (YHZ): 1x weekly.
  • Louisville, Kentucky (SDF): Up to daily.
  • Memphis, Tennessee (MEM): Up to daily.
  • Pensacola, Florida (PNS): 1x weekly.
  • Traverse City, Michigan (TVC): 1x weekly.

These new routes follow recently announced American routes from BOS to Columbus, Ohio (CMH); Cincinnati (CVG); Indianapolis (IND); Wilmington, North Carolina (ILM); STL; and Toronto (YYZ).

Along with JetBlue’s introduction of new service to Vancouver and Asheville, the airline will add even more flying between BOS and Reagan National Airport (DCA) with up to 16 daily departures. Additionally, service at Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) will return in summer 2022 with up to five daily flights between BWI and BOS starting June 9.

In summer 2022, the NEA will offer more than 200 daily departures at BOS, with JetBlue operating more than 150, to more nonstop destinations than any other carrier.

Today British Airways has revealed the initial destinations for its new Gatwick subsidiary, which will start flying from March 2022. Tickets to 35 short-haul destinations will also be on sale from Tuesday 14 December.

The airline announced its intention to create a short-haul standalone business at Gatwick in August, similar to its operation from London City Airport, which operates under the British Airways name but exists as an entirely separate entity. The offshoot will launch later in 2022, with short-haul services at Gatwick being operated by mainline BA until the new entities’ Air Operators Certificate is issued. BA short-haul flights will start operating from Gatwick at the end of March, with three Airbus short-haul aircraft initially, ramping ramp up to 18 aircraft by the end of May.

The subsidiary will herald the airline’s return to short-haul flying from the London airport, which had been suspended as a result of Covid-19 in Spring 2020. During the pandemic, several routes were moved to Heathrow airport, some of which will return to Gatwick, as well as being maintained at Heathrow to give customers choice, including Faro, Ibiza, Malaga, Marrakech and Tenerife. In addition, other new routes will be added at Gatwick including Athens, Berlin, Madrid, Milan Malpensa and Santorini.

The new services will be branded and known as British Airways*. Customers will receive the same high level of service they expect of British Airways as well as enjoying the benefits of travelling with the UK’s flag carrier including a generous baggage allowance, free water and snacks, free seat selection at -24 hours and frequent flyer benefits which include lounge access.

Club Europe customers will also receive complimentary food and drink and Euro Traveller customers who want to order additional food will benefit from access to the airline’s ‘Speedbird Café‘, which features a selection of products from a range of carefully selected British brands.

Tickets, which will go on sale at ba.com today, and start from £39* each way with fares competitive with those of Gatwick no-frills carriers. British Airways Holidays also has a number of packages to these destinations, starting from £119.** The airline will continue to prioritise flying to and from the most convenient destinations across Europe.

The creation of a new British Airways short-haul organisation means Gatwick customers will benefit from access to a premium service from the UK’s flag carrier at competitive prices. We are looking forward to bringing a short-haul network back to Gatwick, with a fantastic flying team in place, to serve our customers from London’s second hub airport, which we feel sure will be a success.”

The city will run several events to celebrate this special announcement inviting visitors and residents to enjoy Sanlúcar’s delicious cuisine and unique wine. The city is rich with natural resources thanks to its proximity to the Guadalquivir River and the natural reserve of the Doñana National Park, which are both an inspiration for the city’s food culture and the legendary horse races that take place on a long stretch of beach in August.

Two elements of the food culture of Sanlucar which have been highlighted in the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy celebrations are Sanlúcar king prawns and the region’s Manzanilla wine (straight from the heart of the Jerez Region). Sanlúcar’s king prawns are one of the most renowned gastronomic treasures of Andalucía and are farmed in the mouth of the Guadalquivir River adjacent to the Doñana National Park.

This prawn carries an intense and rich flavour mainly thanks to the characteristics of the waters in which it grows. At present, these delicate prawns have an official quality brand called Langostino de Sanlúcar (King Prawn of Sanlúcar) which recognises the prawns caught on the coast of the lower Guadalquivir River. In 2020, 146,00 kilograms of these prawns were sold in the Sanlúcar de Barrameda fish market.

The celebrated counterpart, the Manzanilla wine, is a variety of fino sherry made around the port of Sanlúcar de Barrameda and is produced under the Spanish Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) of Manzanilla-Sanlúcar de Barrameda DOP since 1964. In Spanish, chamomile infusion is called “manzanilla”, and thus this wine gets the name because of its flavour said to be reminiscent of such an infusion. The sherry is manufactured using the same methods as a fino and results in a very pale, dry wine.

Visitors looking to discover the city and its culinary scene during its year as Spanish Capital of Gastronomy should look out for its main gastronomic treasures:

  • Tortillitas de camarones: This simple yet delicious tapa uses small fresh prawns to create fritters that are best served piping hot.
  • Acedías and tapaculos: two of the city’s most famous fish best served fried and to be eaten by hand.
  • Arroz con Pato: one of the lesser-known dishes that are popular among the locals of Sanlúcar. It is made from products sourced in the estuaries and areas bordering the river. The star is blue duck that is eaten in sauce or with rice hence the name ´Rice with Duck’.
  • Guisos Marineros: seafood stews are especially famous in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. They come in many shapes and sizes made with cuttlefish, king prawns, monkish and many other delicacies caught just off the coast.
  • Las Papas Aliñás: one of the most recognised potato dishes in Cádiz. Its main characteristic is that it is served “warm” and not cold like most potato salads. It is a type of potato salad that optimises simple, local ingredients.

The title of Spanish Capital of Gastronomy will be held by Sanlucar de Barrameda from 01 January to 31 December. Huelva (2017), Leon (2018), Almeria (2019) and the region of Murcia (2020 and 2021) are among the Spanish cities that have previously held this annual recognition that celebrates food and tourism since its first edition in 2012.

In addition to the ability to redeem and earn points/miles, eligible premier MileagePlus and Velocity members will also receive the following benefits when flying on United and Virgin Australia worldwide:

The partnership will also triple Virgin Australia’s reach into the U.S., with customers accessing United’s vast domestic and international network, connecting at United’s multiple Australian gateways.

Another 4 hotels are committed to open by 2025 under this dual branding. In the future, the number of Cosmos Hotels that will be a member of Radisson Individuals could increase. Radisson Individuals offers independent hotels and regional chains the opportunity to be part of the global Radisson Hotel Group platform, and benefit from the Group’s global reach, while retaining the freedom to maintain their own uniqueness and identity.

Laboratory tests suggested the twice-a-day antiviral, called Paxlovid, will still offer a ‘robust’ response against the variant.

Pfizer Inc.  today announced final results from an analysis of all 2,246 adults enrolled in its Phase 2/3 EPIC-HR trial of its novel COVID-19 oral antiviral candidate PAXLOVID™.

These results were consistent with the interim analysis announced in November 2021, showing PAXLOVID significantly reduced the risk of hospitalization or death for any cause by 89% compared to placebo in non-hospitalized, high-risk adult patients with COVID-19 treated within three days of symptom onset.

In a secondary endpoint, PAXLOVID reduced the risk of hospitalization or death for any cause by 88% compared to placebo in patients treated within five days of symptom onset, an increase from the 85% observed in the interim analysis.

The EPIC-HR data have been shared with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as part of an ongoing rolling submission for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).

“This news provides further corroboration that our oral antiviral candidate, if authorized or approved, could have a meaningful impact on the lives of many, as the data further support the efficacy of PAXLOVID in reducing hospitalization and death and show a substantial decrease in viral load. This underscores the treatment candidate’s potential to save the lives of patients around the world,” said Albert Bourla, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Pfizer.

“Emerging variants of concern, like Omicron, have exacerbated the need for accessible treatment options for those who contract the virus, and we are confident that, if authorized or approved, this potential treatment could be a critical tool to help quell the pandemic.”

Completion of  the longest architectural project in the world is now estimated in 2030, but surrounding apartments might need to be demolished in order to finish it. Amazing, right?

It is La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. The date of completion of the Sagrada Familia has been postponed many times. It is one of the longest architectural projects in the world and if the finish date is met, construction will have taken 147 years. The main facade and its crypts, where Gaudí himself is buried, are listed as a Unesco World Heritage site.

Municipal authorities expect to collect €36 million, about $39 million, from the foundation over the next decade to help pay for improvements, maintenance and other costs in the surrounding area.
The year 2026 will mark the centenary year of the death of Gaudí and they want to celebrate this anniversary by completing the Sagrada Familia. However, there are two things which won’t be finished by 2026: the artistic part and the surroundings of the Basilica.

The next phase of construction might mean the demolition of people’s homes to make way for a sprawling new staircase and a grand surrounding area, up to 200-feet wide and stretching across two blocks, leading up to the main entrance 16 feet above the sidewalk.

In Barcelona, visitors to Sagrada Familia pay between $22 and $36 each to take the tour, generating 95% of the foundation’s revenue. The foundation had revenue of $113 million last year, up from about $87 million in 2018. Residents estimate about 1,000 homes would be demolished to make way for the expansion.

The city says no final plans have been made and all options are on the table. The city’s master plan currently allows for demolition of buildings in the two blocks south of the main entrance.

During the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization held in Madrid (Spain), it was announced – with the corresponding honors – the villages that stand out for being outstanding models of how being sources of opportunities and engines for the sustainable development from tourism. In total, 170 cities of 75 different countries applied for the title, and the Cusco village of Ollantaytambo was one of the 44 cities selected to be part of this prestigious list.

The criteria for the election of the best tourist villages were the number of cultural and natural resources, the promotion and conservation of cultural resources, the economic, social, and environmental sustainability, the tourist potential and development and integration of the value chain, the governance and prioritization of tourism, the infrastructure, the connectivity, and the health and safety.

This fortress or ceremonial center is considered a treasure for the architecture and engineering. In the past, it worked as a military center due to its strategic placement, apart from being a religious and agricultural location by spotlighting its rocks platforms built at more than 4-meters height.

The village is located in the province of Urubamba, at 80 kilometers of the city of Cusco (you can arrive there in one hour, approximately, by taxi or train) and is constantly visited by tourists who are on their way to the Historical Sanctuary of Machupicchu. In Ollantaytambo, you will also find remains of the village that, despite the time, still preserves houses, streets, and transit channels from the Tahuantinsuyo era.

Ollantaytambo is open to the public from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You can do the journey in group with a tourist guide that lasts around two hours. Do not forget to visit the interior of the Temple of the Sun or the Ñusta Font. These attractions are breathtaking.

From the 44 cities selected as the best tourism villages, only 6 are from South America. In such way, Ollantaytambo is also listed as the best tourism village of the continent.

London, UK: Following comprehensive analysis and research, the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has launched a new groundbreaking report which provides clear recommendations to governments and identifies four key digital solutions to restore international mobility.

The inaugural report provides guidance and calls on governments to adopt a more internationally coordinated response to COVID-19 for the Travel & Tourism sector and implement digital solutions that will facilitate the resumption of safe and stress-free international travel.

Following World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, WTTC has identified four of the most widely used digital COVID vaccination certificates (EU Digital COVID Certificate, ICAO Visible Digital Seal, DIVOC, and SMART Health Cards), and urges governments to accept these major international standards as proof of COVID-19 status, whilst working towards a single global solution.

The report, ‘Digital Solutions for Reviving International Travel’, shows how international travellers, whether fully vaccinated or testing negative, would then have a globally recognised digital COVID certificate that would enable them to travel freely and safely anywhere in the world.

This critical report addresses the current global challenge posed by the existing patchwork of policies and processes, which are not only complex and unsustainable, but also further hinder the recovery of an already struggling sector.

To address this governments should create their own ‘Digital Travel Portal’, allowing travellers to electronically share their digital COVID vaccination or test certificates with their destination before they begin their journey.

After booking their trip, travellers would simply go to the online portal managed by the destination, where their digital COVID certificate would be uploaded, verifying the status online and in seconds, avoiding confusing processes and long queues.

Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO, said: “WTTC has been calling on governments to implement a globally coordinated response since the beginning of the pandemic. Today’s report offers the key to harmonise and safely reopen international travel.

“It is governments’ responsibility to ensure there is a safe, secure, simple and digital system in place to restore international mobility. WTTC is recommending a single global portal that recognises the main digital passes currently in use worldwide and acts as a one stop shop for travellers and governments. 

“We can use the pandemic to leapfrog technologies and allow contactless travel with embedded data on vaccination and testing status”.

Along with WHO, this innovative report and recommendations also draws on guidance from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Organisation for Economic Co-operation & Development (OECD) and commitments made by Governments at the G7 and G20 for solutions to revive safe international travel.

According to WTTC’s research, in 2020, when the pandemic brought international travel to an almost standstill, more than 62 million jobs were lost, and the sector’s contribution to the global GDP fell by a staggering US$ 4.5 trillion.

These losses have affected the many millions of livelihoods who rely on thriving Travel & Tourism, while also significantly impacting the global economy and development.

December 13, 2021 – Buta Airways Azerbaijan to Saudi Arabia – launching special flights to two cities of Saudi Arabia – Riyadh and Dammam.

Flights to Riyadh will be launched from November 27 and will be performed on Saturdays. Flights to Dammam will be performed from November 26 on Mondays and Fridays.

Taking into account the restrictions imposed and rules introduced due to the epidemiological situation of the country, the Airline offers tickets only at two fares – “Standard” and “Super”.

Both fares include free seat selection and airport check-in options.

Tickets for these flights are available on the official website of “Buta Airways” (at the “Super” and “Standard” fares), as well as at the official agencies of the Airline (only at the “Super” fare). The cost of tickets starts from 55 euros.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, these flights will be served via Terminal 1 of the Heydar Aliyev International Airport both for departures and arrivals.

Only passengers who are allowed to fly under the current epidemiological restrictions will be accepted on these flights.

The citizens of Azerbaijan planning to travel to Saudi Arabia must be eligible to enter the territory of the country. The rules for entering Saudi Arabia during COVID-19 pandemic are available on the Airline’s website at https://www.butaairways.az/ru/covid/saudi-arabia

The list of clinics in Azerbaijan where you can take COVID-19 test can be found on the Airline’s official website at https://www.butaairways.az/en/covid/clinics

When travelling from the cities of Saudi Arabia to Azerbaijan, passengers can get tested for COVID-19 in any state-accredited clinic or laboratory that conducts PCR testing. It is recommended to have a QR code embedded on the certificate confirming its authenticity. This will help to speed up the formalities at the airport.

Test results for COVID-19 must be valid 72 hours prior to flight departure.

December 13, 2021 –IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement with Bao Quan Co., JSC to open Crowne Plaza Vinh Yen City Centre in 2022.

The 170-room hotel is located in the heart of Vinh Yen – the capital of Vinh Phuc Province – and brings Crowne Plaza’s distinctive design style that integrates business and leisure. It will feature contemporary design-led spaces inspired by local influences and a rich cultural history, while offering exciting dining destinations and innovative spaces to blend work and play.

Situated 30 minutes from Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport, Crowne Plaza Vinh Yen City Centre is ideally located for business travellers.
