Valencia world design capital 2022

blank

blank

November 15, 2021 – The World Design Organisation (WDO) has recently announced that Valencia is to be granted the prestigious title:

Valencia World Design Capital 2022

This is the first time a Spanish city has received this accreditation and recognises the city’s uses of design as a tool to stimulate economic, social, cultural, and environmental development.

The designation highlights Valencia for the quality of its Mediterranean design and marks the beginning of a series of cultural events aimed to consolidate this legacy of design focusing on six strategic hubs in which action can be taken via design: health and wellbeing; education; innovation and economy; heritage and identity; equality, inclusion and diversity; and sustainability.

The “unanimous” decision from the WDO was based upon “the precision, rigour and professionalism” of Valencia’s candidature. Xavi Calvo, strategic co-director of the candidacy for Valencia, believes that design will ‘accelerate the processes of social transformation’ and hopes to embrace the opportunity in the fullest. Valencia has provided a plan and itinerary for their proposed projects that includes everything from industrial designs to stunning architecture. It will be in line with the city’s cultural agenda so that the public can be as involved with the works as much as possible.

Every month there will be one of four types of events taking place based upon a new theme: exhibitions, congresses, workshops, and conferences. The content of these events will be centred around pressing topics such as climate change, Mediterranean design, gender equality in design, the history of design, industrial development, design and nature, among others. Projects include DNA Ceramics, the Design Map, two projects entitled Lo por venir and Trampolín for the occupational inclusion of people with disabilities as well as many others that enhance the value of Valencian design heritage.

November 15, 2021 – United is the only North American airline offering direct flights from Jordan to the U.S.

Amman is one of five new destinations United will serve next summer as part of the airline’s largest-ever transatlantic expansion

United flights to Jordan

United is giving customers the chance to check the cultural and natural wonders of Jordan off of their travel bucket lists in 2022, as tickets go on sale today for the airline’s brand-new flights between Washington D.C./Dulles and Amman. United is the only North American airline offering direct flights to Jordan from the U.S., and the first flight takes off on May 5, 2022 (these flights are subject to government approval).

“We’re expecting next summer to be one of our busiest ever for transatlantic travel, and we know our customers have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to visit unique and memorable international destinations,” Patrick Quayle, senior vice president of international network and alliances at United. “We’re thrilled to make it easier for more travelers to have the chance to swim in the Red Sea, visit the Wadi Rum desert and simply experience Jordan’s vibrant history and culture.”

Amman is one of five brand-new transatlantic destinations United will launch service to next summer. Other new destinations include Bergen, Norway; Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain; Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal; and Palma de Mallorca, Spain. In addition, United will start four new routes to popular European destinations including Chicago to Milan, Italy; Denver to Munich, Germany; Washington D.C.to Berlin, Germany; and Boston to London, England. Customers are already eagerly planning summer getaways; since these new flights were announced last month, the airline is receiving hundreds of bookings for them each day.

“United Airlines’ launch of non-stop service between Amman and Washington D.C. will further the close economic and cultural ties between Jordan and the United States,” said Dina Kawar, Jordan’s Ambassador to the United States. “We look forward to many years of success, and the boost to Jordan’s tourism economy this new service will bring, and we will remain committed to ensuring the success of this new route into Amman.”

“The U.S. Embassy in Amman is committed to supporting U.S. investment in Jordan and the promotion of U.S.-Jordan relations. We welcome the announcement of this new flight as it will further expand the opportunities for Americans and Jordanians to connect our cultures and promote tourism and economic opportunities,” said U.S. Ambassador to Jordan, Henry T. Wooster.

United is planning to fly its largest transatlantic schedule in its history next summer with nonstop flights to 30 European destinations – more than any other North American carrier. United is adding additional flights to Berlin, Dublin, Milan, Munich and Rome; and will launch several routes that were interrupted due to the pandemic including Frankfurt, Nice and Zurich. The airline also recently announced the addition of five new flights to London Heathrow.

United’s capital-to-capital service to Amman builds upon recent transatlantic growth in Washington D.C., including the first ever nonstop to Lagos, Nigeria launching at the end of this month. United will operate flights to Amman three times weekly with a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner which includes lie-flat United Polaris® business class seats with all aisle access and the United Premium Plus® cabin.

“United Airlines’ nonstop flight from Washington, D.C., to Amman will serve as an important new gateway between our nations’ capitals, catering to both business and leisure passengers on the brand-new route,” said Carl Schultz, acting vice president of airline business development for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. “We look forward to adding yet another option for our customers in the National Capital Region as we continue to diversify our growing line-up of international destinations.”

Carnival news: all of its U.S.-based ships will be back in guest operations by March 2022

November 12, 2021 – On the heels of the rave reviews of its newest ship Mardi Gras, Carnival Cruise Line today announced that its third Excel-class ship – to be named Carnival Jubilee – will be delivered in 2023 and based in Galveston, Tex.

Carnival news

The announcement about Carnival Jubilee was made the same day that Carnival confirmed that all 22 of its U.S.-based ships will be back in guest operations by March 2022. Nineteen ships had been confirmed by February, and now Carnival Sensation will restart from Mobile, Ala. effective Mar. 5, Carnival Ecstasy will restart from Jacksonville, Fla. effective Mar. 7, and Carnival Paradise will restart from Tampa, Fla. effective Mar. 12.

“Carnival was the first cruise line to offer year-round cruising from Galveston in 2000, and we have continued to grow our presence and support of the Port of Galveston’s expansion, so we are thrilled to bring our brand-new Carnival Jubilee to Texas and the greater southwest region,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “This beautiful, innovative ship will bring an entirely new cruise experience to our guests, and we’ve got some great surprises to fun it up in ways we know they are going to love.”

Carnival Jubilee will be the third in the Excel-class for Carnival, joining sisters Mardi Gras, sailing from Port Canaveral since earlier this year, and Carnival Celebration, which will be delivered in late 2022 and based in Miami. The ships utilize a liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology platform. Carnival Corp. pioneered the introduction of LNG fuel in the passenger cruise sector as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and compliance throughout its global operations. Mardi Gras is the first LNG-powered cruise ship to operate in North America, and more information about the technology can be found in this video.

However, this new Excel-class ship will not be the first Jubilee to sail from Galveston. As it gets ready to celebrate its 50th birthday in 2022, Carnival has resurrected some of the names of its previous ships that were popular with guests at the company’s inception – such as Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration, and now, Carnival Jubilee. Celebration was the first year-round ship positioned in Galveston in 2000 and was soon joined by Jubilee in 2002. So now, just more than 21 years later, this new Carnival Jubilee – four times larger than her predecessor – will make her debut at the port ushering new ways for the next generation of cruise enthusiasts to have fun.

Latest travel advice Colombia

October 12, 2021 – In the first stage, only tourists from the EU and other countries with mutual vaccination agreements with Israel, will be allowed to visit.

The Israeli government is expected to announce that foreign tourists will be readmitted into the country from November 1. In the first stage, only tourists from some 40 countries, mainly EU countries, which have mutual vaccination agreements with Israel, will be allowed to enter Israel.

Only people who have had at least two vaccinations and have not passed six months since their second vaccination, or have had the third booster vaccination, will be allowed into Israel. These conditions will greatly reduce the number of tourists who qualify. Both groups and individual tourists will be allowed into the country.

In the second stage, Israel hopes to sign a mutual vaccination agreement with the US, which will allow in tourists from some states such as New York and California.

The Ministry of Health has yet to decide if it will demand that tourists from the US will also need to undergo a serological test to determine whether they have adequate levels of Covid antibodies. The Ministry of Health understands that such a test could act as a deterrent and may not stick by the demand. Such a test will not apply to tourists from Europe, under the mutual agreement with the EU.

The Ministry of Health is also considering allowing all vaccinated tourists to enter Israel from November 21, except from countries that require a visa to visit Israel.

As with all Israelis returning to Israel, foreign tourists will be required to show a negative tests from within 72 hours before boarding their flight and to take another PCR test on landing at Ben Gurion airport. They must remain in isolation until receiving those test results (within 24 hours).

Under the Israeli government’s plans, tourists in groups will be allowed into Israel, if they have gone more than six months since their second vaccination. Such groups will be limited to a maximum of 1,000 entering the country per day and these tourists will be required to undergo antigen tests at the entry to sites that they visit.

Under the plan, Israel will accept vaccinations recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) including the various Chinese vaccinations but not Russia’s Sputnik vaccination.

The Ministry of Health said, “As soon as the plan is finalized, we will approve it for publication in an organized fashion.”

Where in the world Australia

Where can it be?This amazing picture is Wave Rock. One of Australia’s biggest waves is also the furthest from any ocean rising 15 metres above the outback plain. Over 2,700 million years in the making, today it’s a popular tourist destination.

Located near the Wheatbelt town of Hyden, getting there from Perth is a pleasant 340-kilometre drive (approximately three to four hours) through picturesque rolling farmlands to wide vistas of wheat and canola fields.
This 110-metre long multi-coloured granite cliff is shaped remarkably like a huge wave about to crash onto the bush. Pose on the rock face and surf the giant wave or see it from a different perspective by following the walk trails around the base and over the top.

Hotel Indigo Belgrade – opens 1st hotel in Serbia

hotel news

blank

blank

blank

blank

November 11, 2021 – Hotel Indigo, IHG Hotels & Resorts’ boutique hotel brand, has opened its first hotel in Serbia, Hotel Indigo Belgrade. True to the brand’s ethos, Hotel Indigo Belgrade takes its design cues from the local neighbourhood and pays homage to the city’s storied past.

Hotel Indigo Belgrade

The capital city of Serbia is home to a brilliantly diverse blend of cultures and architectural styles, with a fascinating history stretching back for millennia, and Belgrade is increasingly gaining popularity amongst a new generation of visitors. As the meeting point of two rivers, the Sava and the Danube, Belgrade was a highly connected crossroad between east and west Europe, used by traders, missionaries, tourists, ambassadors, and craftsmen who made their way through the continent by boat. Disembarking in the capital, travellers from various empires including the Romans, the Goths, the Huns, the Ottomans, and the Austro-Hungarians often left their own particular imprint on the city. These impressions can be experienced through local attractions such as the Belgrade Fortress, a historic complex comprising of the old citadel and Kalemegdan Park where visitors can gaze over the confluence of the two rivers.

Just as no two neighbourhoods are alike, no two Hotel Indigo hotels are alike. Like its Old Town surroundings Hotel Indigo Belgrade’s architecture showcases the mishmash of cultures and styles born from the city’s fascinating history. Centrally located in the main pedestrian area, between Kneza Mihailova and Čika Ljubina streets, sitting above luxury retail stores, the hotel has 46 boutique bedrooms with two distinctive room styles to choose from. Drawing inspiration from the Brutalist architecture that is very apparent in Belgrade, the hotel’s Brutalism-inspired room style has concrete walls contrasted with unique artwork and textiles with unusual geometric shapes. The Art Deco room was designed to evoke the Art Deco period of the city with the use of muted pastel colours and arches in the headboard to mimic the design influence of this prominent era.

Upon entering the hotel, guests will be greeted by an eye-catching reception, which has been specially designed to mimic the shape of a local monument, Knez Mihailo, with locally made Serbian rugs hanging above. The use of gold throughout the lobby, reception area and lift is inspired by the nearby National Museum which was originally built as a bank. If guests look closely, the walls of the lift are covered in hidden poems by some of the nation’s most famous poets. The hotel’s living room pays homage to the coming together of trade routes with an eclectic mix of styles through the ages, from Pirot rugs, a national treasure from Southern Serbia, to 70’s inspired floor lamps. November 11, 2021 – American Airlines and JetBlue’s Northeast Alliance Will Give Customers Access to the Largest Flight Schedule on the Most Connected Network in 2022

The NEA has increased competition, created the most frequencies in New York and is transforming business travel in high-frequency markets

  • The NEA has created the largest flight schedule in New York and Boston than any other airline, offering consumers more flight choices in 60 markets from New York and 49 markets from Boston.
  • In December, American and JetBlue will offer lie-flat seats on all transcontinental routes from New York and Boston, offering the most lie-flat seats of any airlines for a premium travel experience from the Northeast.
  • In 2022, the NEA has 18 new international routes launched or planned to meet increased travel demand.
  • American is introducing Main Select, which will provide business customers more flexibility, convenience and comfort starting on flights in the Northeast, and then throughout its network.

FORT WORTH, Texas — In 2022, customers will experience the full benefits of the Northeast Alliance (NEA) between American Airlines and JetBlue, including the most flight choices in dozens of markets from New York and Boston, lie-flat seats on all transcontinental routes and a robust international network. In addition, American will reimagine business travel in 2022 with the launch of Main Select for business travelers.

“The NEA is open for business, providing customers the most frequencies in New York, the best routes across key business markets and reciprocal status benefits,” American’s Chief Revenue Officer Vasu Raja said. “With lie-flat seats offered in all transcontinental markets and a robust international network that includes the launch of 10 new routes, the NEA is spurring competition in New York and transforming travel beyond the northeast.”

The innovative alliance between American and JetBlue continues to increase competition in the Northeast.

“The NEA has already supercharged competition in the Northeast by providing more choices and better service for customers,” said Scott Laurence, head of Revenue and Planning at JetBlue. “We were able to deliver on more consumer benefits, including most recently, more JetBlue flying out of LaGuardia than ever before, and reciprocal elite benefits.”

Easiest way to travel the East Coast

The NEA has created more frequencies in New York than any other airline, offering consumers access to nearly 60 markets, and more than 48 markets from Boston. And with a retimed 2022 schedule in high-frequency markets such as from Boston (BOS) to Washington, D.C. (DCA) and New York (LGA) to DCA, the NEA will offer customers the most convenient service on key business routes.

Recently, JetBlue added its code to several international flights on American’s network and continues to add its code to further domestic and international flights.

Customers can now easily connect from an American flight to a JetBlue flight and vice versa through New York (JFK) as the two airlines are now offering codeshare connections to nearly 600 origin and destination markets.

Since January, the NEA has brought more service to customers in New York and Boston, including 58 new routes, increased frequencies on more than 130 routes and codeshare on 175 routes. The NEA has also created reciprocal codeshare on the largest connecting markets from JFK.

The return of international travel

While other airlines try to make old routes new again, American has continued to operate its international schedule during the pandemic. Bolstered by the NEA, American is currently the fastest growing international carrier in New York. The alliance connects the Northeast to almost 150 worldwide destinations, including 10 new international routes from American.

These routes include new service from New York’s JFK to Tel Aviv, Israel (TLV), which launched in May; JFK service to Athens, Greece (ATH), which launched in June; and JFK service to Delhi, India (DEL), which launches on Nov. 12.

In its January 2022 schedule, American will also upgauge aircraft on its New York routes to Medellin and Cali, Colombia, offering more seats to the popular South American destination.

Blue Extra, meet Main Select

American is reimagining travel for business customers. In 2022, American will launch Main Select in key business markets, continuing American’s decades of premium business service by operating high-frequency routes between LGA to DCA, LGA to Chicago (ORD), BOS to DCA and in additional markets such as Dallas/Fort Worth and Los Angeles. Main Select takes the stress out of business travel with refundable fares, priority boarding, priority check-in, choice of all seats in Main Cabin at time of booking including Main Cabin Extra, and free same-day flight changes.

With this new innovative fare product for business customers across the country, American will be retiring the airline’s Shuttle product, which was only available on select routes in the Northeast.

“We are revamping the high-frequency travel experience to meet the needs of today’s business customers,” Raja said. “That means creating an easy and seamless travel experience that has the amenities they want, the flexibility they need and a network that offers access to any destination they want to go.”

Business customers can purchase a Blue Extra fare when flying on JetBlue high-frequency routes, including LGA to BOS, operated exclusively by JetBlue. Blue Extra conveniently offers same-day flight switches, Even More® Speed at select airports and early boarding, making business travel a breeze.

Status perks on both airlines

Earlier this fall, American’s AAdvantage status members and JetBlue’s TrueBlue Mosaic members began receiving their benefits when traveling either carrier, including priority boarding, priority security and free checked baggage allowances.

For those TrueBlue Mosaic members who want to choose an aisle or a window seat, these preferred seats are now available for selection at the time of purchase.

Dyvig Badehotel — Nordborg, Denmark
The Dyvig Badehotel stands between lush countryside and the Baltic Sea on the island of Als in southern Denmark. The delight of this small hotel – featuring just 17 rooms and 4 suites – is bound up with the tranquility of its waterside location. This is a place to escape from the bustle of life and, perhaps, time itself. The chef, Christian Lebech, concocts seasonal menus for the gourmet restaurant highlighting local produce, in particular seafood. The hotel’s brasserie offers typically Danish specialties, such as the stjerneskud, or ‘shooting star’ open sandwich.

Thornbury Castle — Gloucestershire, England
To defy Henry VIII: such was the ambition of Edward Stafford, Duke of Buckingham, who had Thornbury Castle built in the southwest of England, not far from Gloucester. This imposing mansion is a glorious example of Tudor architecture, and its proud silhouette asserts a nearly original appearance. Massive yet private, welcoming yet filled with history, the establishment is an invitation to enjoy serenity with a taste of British heritage, in rooms worthy of the royal family itself. Chef Carl Cleghorn prepares vegetables from the castle’s own gardens and sources produce from local farms, offering a menu of traditional dishes and vegetarian options.

Ballynahinch Castle — Connemara, Ireland
With a low mountain range as a backdrop, verdant forests nestling all around, and the calm waters of River Owenmore flowing below, Ballynahinch Castle is as pretty as a postcard. Located in western Ireland, this castle achieves the prodigious feat of being both majestic and welcoming, sophisticated yet simple. The wide bow windows of its cozy rooms offer views of the Irish countryside like landscape paintings. The chef, David Bodas Gutierrez, combines his understanding of traditional cookery with his knowledge as a nutritionist, demonstrating at every turn that gourmet cuisine can also be wonderfully balanced.

The spa is also striking for its wide-open spaces: it offers 300 m2 / 3229 ft2 of well-being, ideal after a day of hiking or skiing. Michelin star-rated chef Franck Reynaud adores his region, and brings out the best of its traditional flavors through his cep puddings and truffled potato purées, among many other specialities. Opening scheduled for December 2021.

Maison Décotterd — Montreux, Switzerland
At the heart of the Swiss Riviera, this gourmet restaurant is located in the former Bellevue hotel, at the heart of the prestigious Glion catering school. It offers a sublime panorama over Lake Geneva and the Alps in a Belle Époque atmosphere in keeping with the magnificent style of the building. With two Michelin stars, chef Stéphane Décotterd has been committed to sourcing wholly local ingredients since 2018. Each morning he sets out to gather fresh herbs to flavor pike, tench and char as part of an approach to cookery that he describes as “resolutely responsible and bold, but never fixed, just like the waters of the lake which so inspire me.”

Brindos Lac & Château — Anglet, France
Just a few minutes from Biarritz Airport, Château de Brindos has been recently renovated and is scheduled to reopen in the spring of 2022. From its reception spaces to each of its 29 rooms and suites, it proudly reasserts its Spanish and Moorish identity and upholds the festive atmosphere that the spot has cultivated since its earliest beginnings. The private 12-ha / 30-acre lake is not only perfect for contemplation: it also accommodates ten floating suites, each a dreamy refuge. Two swimming pools – one indoor and one outdoor – and a vast spa complete the picture. The restaurant features Basque cuisine, cheese and wine, as well as fresh produce from the Atlantic coast.

Stonehaven Le Manoir — Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Canada
This is the Canada of your dreams, where forests merge with lakes: the Stonehaven is a bastion of elegance at the heart of the Laurentides. Founded in 1908, the hotel was recently renovated to highlight the Art Deco spirit of its early years. Its Italian garden is one of the crown jewels of Quebec, and each of its 34 spacious yet cozy rooms are equally idyllic. In the restaurant, French chef Éric Gonzalez combines fresh, local products with the classic specialties of his native country. Experience a moment suspended in time at the heart of one of the most spectacular regions of La Belle Province.

Alex Lake Zürich — Zürich, Switzerland
This hotel offers an incomparable view over Lake Zurich, and indeed seems to float on the water. Its 42 suites and two penthouses are beautifully light-filled, with wide picture windows and elegant, streamlined interior design in light colors. In the restaurant, chef Tino Staub seeks to bring as many ingredients as possible “from the farm to the table,” combining foods cultivated within the hotel’s kitchen garden with flavors from around the world. A member of the Swiss group The Living Circle, like the Relais & Châteaux establishment Castello del Sole Beach Resort & Spa in Ascona, Hotel Alex Lake respects nature with its ecological approach and aims to eliminate all use of plastic by 2023.

Restaurant Saisons — Lyon, France
At the heart of a century-old park in western Lyon, Château du Vivier is home to Restaurant Saisons. The establishment is a showcase for Institut Paul Bocuse, a prestigious international school for hotel management and the culinary arts. The talented young team of Saisons is led by three-star chef Florian Pansin, alongside the Meilleur Sommelier de France Gaëtan Bouvier, and the Meilleur Ouvrier de France Davy Tissot, winner of the 2021 Bocuse d’or. They pass along their expertise and enthusiasm by cultivating the talents of tomorrow, across 70 different nationalities. Together they offer a touching culinary experience: the ingredients of the moment – as the restaurant’s name suggests – are selected from the best local farmers or the restaurant’s kitchen garden, and accompanied by exceptional vintages to thrill gourmets seeking a combination of tradition and modernity.

November 10, 2021 –  Hilton (NYSE: HLT) has signed a franchise agreement with Gefest Group, one of the largest real estate developers in the Odessa region, to build a new 145-room resort on the beachfront in the popular port city of Odessa, Ukraine. The hotel, due to open in spring 2025, will be managed by Cyprus based Millennium Hospitality and located near the famous Arcadia entertainment area.

Hilton Odessa

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, EMEA, Hilton said, “There is clear opportunity for growth in Ukraine, with two hotels set to join our portfolio alongside Hilton Kyiv. Growing international interest in Odessa and robust domestic demand make Hilton Odessa an important addition to our European pipeline. We are pleased to be working with Gefest Group to introduce our flagship brand to southern Ukraine.”

Pantelis Boumbouras, founder & president of Gefest Group said, “We are excited to announce our new development in Odessa, working with Hilton to bring an impressive resort that will appeal to both domestic and international travellers. With our experience in developing hotels and real estate in Odessa and a partnership with a global brand such as Hilton, we look forward to welcoming guests to Hilton Odessa.”

Vasilis Boumbouras, CEO of Gefest Group said, “Our company is a leader in commercial and residential construction in the region and we strive for innovation and green designs in our buildings. We are aiming to develop one of the best Hilton hotels in the world, both in terms of ambiance and in the quality of materials used. We pay attention to the finest details which will make the guest’s experience unique and memorable.”

In recent years Odessa has led the charge for Ukraine’s growing tourism industry. Domestic travellers from Ukraine, as well as international visitors from Europe, North America and Central Asia choose the port city of Odessa for its 19th century architecture, energetic culture and stunning Black Sea beaches.  As the largest trade centre in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Odessa’s position as a commercial hub means that business travel is also a key driver for growth in the city.

Spread across two buildings, décor for the hotel and its guest rooms will take inspiration from the natural environment, bringing the neutral sandy tones and rugged textures from Odessa’s beautiful coastline to the hotel’s interiors.  With two swimming pools — one indoor and one rooftop pool — offering stunning views overlooking the coast, the new build hotel will also provide direct access to Odessa’s fine sandy beaches. Guests will be able to choose from four restaurants and bars, two of which will be situated on the beachfront. The hotel will also feature an entire floor dedicated as a conference centre with an approximate total area of 800m2 including a 300m2 ballroom, an executive floor with an executive lounge on the rooftop and 600m2 wellness centre with a heated pool, gym, beauty salon and other leisure facilities.

Hilton Odessa will be located a short walk from the popular resort area of Arcadia, home to Arcadia Beach and its entertainment complex with many restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Further north along the coast, visitors will find the Botanical Garden of The Odessa State University, and several pristine beaches along the Black Sea coast, which are easily accessible through the city’s health route, which originates near the city centre and continues for over 15km along the coast, beyond the location of Hilton Odessa.  The city centre is less than 15 minutes from the hotel by car at a distance of just 6km, where travellers can see the world-famous Potemkin Stairs and Vorontsov Lighthouse.

Hilton Odessa joins a growing portfolio of hotels in the Ukraine, including Hilton Kyiv. Hilton Odessa will be part of the award-winning Hilton Honors guest loyalty programme, allowing more than 118 million members who book directly with Hilton to earn Points for hotel stays and experiences, plus instant benefits including contactless check-in with room selection, Digital Key and Connected Room.

The hotel will be located at Vannyi Lane and will also have a seafront building on Primorskyi Lane. It joins more than 140 Hilton Hotels & Resorts properties trading or under development across Europe.

Thanksgiving Travel to Rebound Almost to Pre-Pandemic Levels in 2019

blank

November 10, 2021 – Thanksgiving Travel – Airports and roads may seem jam-packed this year as AAA predicts 53.4 million people to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, up 13% from 2020. This brings travel volumes within 5% of pre-pandemic levels in 2019, with air travel almost completely recovering from its dramatic fall during the pandemic, up 80% over last year. As restrictions continue to lift and consumer confidence builds, AAA urges travelers to be proactive when making their travel plans this holiday season.

Thanksgiving Travel

“This Thanksgiving, travel will look a lot different than last year,” said Paula Twidale, senior vice president, AAA Travel. “Now that the borders are open and new health and safety guidelines are in place, travel is once again high on the list for Americans who are ready to reunite with their loved ones for the holiday.”

With 6.4 million more people traveling this Thanksgiving coupled with the recent opening of the U.S. borders to fully vaccinated international travelers—people should prepare for roads and airports to be noticeably more crowded.

“International travel re-opening will allow people to reconnect with friends and family and explore new places, while also giving a much-needed boost to the economy,” continued Twidale. “But it also means airports will be busier than we’ve seen, so travelers must plan for long lines and extra time for TSA checks.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released its recommendations for holiday gatherings and related travel, saying that the best way to minimize COVID-19 risk is to get vaccinated if you’re eligible. However, everyone’s situation is unique and therefore, AAA urges anyone considering gathering or traveling for Thanksgiving to consult CDC guidance before finalizing holiday plans.

This year’s forecast marks the highest single-year increase in Thanksgiving travelers since 2005, bringing travel volumes close to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Despite gas costing over a dollar more per gallon than this time last year, 90% of people plan to travel by car as their preferred mode of travel. Although the car is still the most popular choice for travelers, a greater share will opt to travel by air and other modes such as bus, train or cruise this year. Whether you plan to do so by car or plane, it’s important to know how to navigate the new travel landscape to avoid unnecessary stress and challenges on the way to your Thanksgiving destination.

Be Proactive. Book flights, car rentals, accommodations and other activities as early as possible. Prices are not going down and are still somewhat impacted by the limited capacity of flights and staffing challenges faced by many industries. Consider working with a travel advisor who can make any last-minute changes to travel plans, explore travel insurance options and help plan a trip that meets your needs and comfort level this holiday season.

  • Air—Even with air travel seeing a boost this year, AAA finds that the average lowest airfare is 27.3% less than last year coming in at $132. Tuesday and Wednesday are still the most expensive and heaviest travel days with Monday being the lightest and least expensive. Those wanting to book last-minute travel will find the best fares about two weeks prior to Thanksgiving but keep in mind availability may be limited.
  • Hotels—Mid-range hotel rates have increased about 39%, with average nightly rates ranging between $137 and $172 for AAA Approved Hotels.
  • Car Rentals—Daily car rental rates have increased 4% compared to last Thanksgiving at $98. Over the summer, consumers experienced high costs and limited availability of rental cars in some markets, due to the semi-conductor chip shortage impacting automakers. While this shortage has subsided, it is possible it could return as the holidays near.

Be Patient. The roads and airports will be busy so plan ahead.

  • Arrive at the airport early so you’ll have plenty of time to get through longer TSA lines and other travel checkpoints. For domestic travel, AAA suggests 2 hours ahead of departure time and 3 hours for international.
  • Consider booking a flight during non-peak travel periods to cut down on wait times.
  • Hit the road when there’s less traffic and allow for extra time when traveling to your destination.

Be Prepared. For the 48.3 million Americans hitting the road, make sure you and your vehicle are ready for the trip ahead as AAA expects to respond to over 400,000 for help over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. If your vehicle has been sitting idle, AAA suggests getting an inspection to check key components like the battery, fuel system, tires, brakes and fluid levels. These systems are particularly vulnerable to deteriorating if a vehicle sits too long without proper care or maintenance.

Be Protected—Both You and Your Trip If you plan to travel during the holidays, it’s essential to do so safely and understand how to protect yourself, your loved ones and your investment while traveling. Also, as travel restrictions remain in flux, it’s essential to know requirements and recommendations based on your vaccination status, where you’re traveling from and your destination. AAA’s COVID-19 Travel Restrictions Map and TripTik.AAA.com are also helpful resources travelers may use for free to understand closures, recommendations and requirements when traveling in the U.S.

  • Travel insurance—AAA highly recommends travel insurance to cover unexpected delays or trip interruptions. It is best to consult the expertise of a travel advisor who can guide you on the coverage options available for your specific trip, including if your destination requires visitors to carry travel insurance.
  • Clean accommodations—When booking a place to stay, look for accommodations that prioritize cleanliness and have implemented additional housekeeping standards since the start of the pandemic. Earlier this year, as part of its Diamond designation, AAA enhanced its housekeeping evaluation to include objective, scientific validation of the cleanliness of common surfaces throughout hotels. Hotels that meet these new standards are now recognized as Inspected Clean and a current listing can be found here.
  • Safe travel = smart travel—Everything from airports to restaurants to attractions will be busier this Thanksgiving, which means more people congregating. Masks are still required for everyone on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States and in U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations. The CDC also recommends everyone wear a mask indoors in public if they are in an area of substantial or high transmission.
  • Domestic and international travel guidelines—As of November 8, the U.S. opened its borders to fully vaccinated travelers. The CDC has updated its guidance to reflect these changes. When traveling within the U.S., fully vaccinated travelers do not need a negative viral test or to self-quarantine. For international travel, refer to the CDC for specific guidelines.

Thanksgiving Travel – travelers Headed to Big Cities and Beaches This Thanksgiving

AAA Travel continues to see a strong recovery that began over the summer and will continue into the holiday season. AAA booking data reveals that big cities and tropical destinations are topping travelers’ list this Thanksgiving both domestically and abroad:

Roads Will Be Bustling

INRIX, in collaboration with AAA, predicts drivers will experience the worst congestion heading into the holiday weekend as commuters leave work early and mix with holiday travelers. Major metro areas across the U.S. could see more than double the delays versus typical drive times, with drivers in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and New York City likely to experience more than three times the delays.

“Thanksgiving is one of the busiest holidays for road trips and this year will be no different even during the pandemic,” says Bob Pishue, Transportation Analyst, INRIX. “Drivers around major metros must be prepared for significant delays, especially Wednesday afternoon. Knowing when and where congestion will build can help drivers avoid the stress of sitting in traffic.”

Expected Number May Change

AAA notes that the actual number of holiday travelers could fluctuate as we approach Thanksgiving. If there is an increase in reported COVID-19 cases, some people may decide to stay home, while others may note the progress in vaccinations and make last-minute decisions to travel. AAA recommends working with a travel advisor who can help you plan a vacation that meets your needs and comfort level this holiday season. To get started and to learn more, visit AAA.com/Travel.

Forecast Methodology:

In cooperation with AAA, IHS Markit—a world leader in critical information, analytics and expertise—developed a unique methodology to forecast actual domestic travel volumes. The economic variables used to forecast travel for the current holiday are leveraged from IHS Markit’s proprietary databases. These data include macroeconomic drivers such as employment, output, household net worth, asset prices including stock indices, interest rates, housing market indicators, and variables related to travel and tourism, including prices of gasoline, airline travel and hotel stays.

Historical travel volume estimates come from DK SHIFFLET’s TRAVEL PERFORMANCE/MonitorSM. The PERFORMANCE/MonitorSM is a comprehensive study measuring the travel behavior of U.S. residents. DK SHIFFLET contacts over 50,000 U.S. households each month to obtain detailed travel data, resulting in the unique ability to estimate visitor volume and spending, identify trends and forecast U.S. travel behavior—all after the trips have been taken.

The travel forecast is reported in-person trips. In particular, AAA and IHS Markit forecast the total U.S. holiday travel volume and expected mode of transportation.
