Meeting With King Tut! It was 100 years ago that the amazing Tutankhamun tomb was discovered

Meeting with King Tut

Meeting with King Tut

Meeting With King Tut! Egypt is celebrating the centennial of the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb!

A grand Conference is taking place in Luxor from the 4th to the 6th of November this year, featuring keynote speaker, the renowned Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawas.

Meeting with King Tut

The opening session will be presented by Lord and Lady Carnarvon who are the descendants of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon, the sponsor of Howard Carter’s excavation for the discovery of Tutankhamun tomb 100 years ago.

Meeting with King Tut: The celebration will spot the light on the iconic discovery by contextualizing it and presenting the latest research on the Youngest King Tutankhamun, his tomb and its contents. Be part of the great event, and let us help you with the travel arrangements.

Conference details: British Archaeologist and Egyptologist Dr. Howard Carter led the excavation mission who discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb in November 1922.

Meeting with King Tut: As a result of the quantity and spectacular appearance of the burial goods, the tomb attracted a media frenzy and became the most famous find in the history of Egyptology.

Tutankhamun became one of the best-known pharaohs, and some artefacts from his tomb, like the golden funerary mask, are among the best-known artworks from ancient Egypt.

The tomb of Tutankhamun, tomb number KV62 in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, is the burial place of the youngest Pharaoh King Tutankhamun who reigned c. 1334–1325 BC.

Besides the king’s Mummy, the tomb contains his coffin, furniture, clothing, jewellery and over 5,000 items. which gives an insight into the material culture of wealthy ancient Egyptians Pharaohs, despite the relatively small tomb due to the premature death of Tutankhamun.

The Grand Egyptian Museum will have a dedicated area to exhibit all the belongings of King Tutankhamun all in one place for the first time in history.

Qantas Sydney to Tonga – weekly flights to this tropical destination

Qantas Sydney to Tonga

Qantas Sydney to Tonga

August 23, 2022 – Qantas Sydney to Tonga – weekly flights to this tropical destination

Qantas is expanding its South Pacific presence with the addition of Tonga to its network, offering a new tropical destination for Australian travellers to explore.

Qantas Sydney to Tonga

Following the recent reopening of Tonga’s borders, Qantas will fly weekly between Sydney and Nuku’alofa’s Fua’amotu Airport. The four and a half hour flights will be the only direct services between Australia and Tonga.

Qantas has been operating services since December 2020, supported by the Australian Government’s Pacific Flights Program. These flights have maintained critical passenger and freight links while international borders were closed. From today, passengers can book a flight directly on qantas.com with services operating every Thursday to Tonga.

Qantas Sydney to Tonga: The inclusion of Tonga to the international network follows the recent commitment of weekly services to Samoa as Qantas grows its presence in the South Pacific Islands off the back of strong holiday travel demand.

Qantas will initially operate one flight a week with a A330 aircraft between Tonga and Sydney alongside the Samoa service.

Qantas Sydney to Tonga are on sale at Qantas.com starting from $866 return. Qantas Frequent Flyers can earn and redeem Qantas Points on Tonga flights as well as earn status credits.

Quotes from a Qantas spokesperson

“Since the opening of Australia’s border, we have seen strong demand across our Qantas operated South Pacific services. In fact, Fiji is 50 per cent higher than pre-COVID demand, Noumea is 13 per cent higher and flights to Samoa are performing ahead of expectations.

“These flights will help Australian-based South Pacific Islanders visit family and friends back home, as well as providing travel hungry Australians a choice of Pacific neighbours to explore.

“We anticipate the Tonga services will be well-supported by both Tongan nationals and Australians and are excited to help strengthen family and community connections as well as boost tourism opportunities to this beautiful Pacific Island kingdom.”

International flights are subject to government and regulatory approval.

Scheduled to open in 2025, the prestigious 244-room InterContinental Pyeongtaek will be the first global hotel brand in the Gyeonggi Province city and form a key part of its exciting future expansion plans and long-term ambitions.

InterContinental Pyeongteak

The original plan for the project was to introduce another leading IHG Hotels & Resorts brand, voco Hotels, in the form of voco Pyeongtaek.
The result of a partnership between IHG Hotels & Resorts and Seraphim Development, the property will be ideally located for the growing number of leisure visitors to the area who are seeking a taste of The InterContinental Life, as well business travellers visiting the large number of major corporations in the vicinity, and guests of the nearby US military base, Camp Humphreys.

The introduction of the InterContinental brand to Pyeongtaek follows the city’s strong recent economic growth which has seen increased investment from tech-driven businesses, improvements to its infrastructure, and a steep rise in its population.

<span class=Sae Youn Park, Project Director, Seraphim Development Group commented: “Over the past two years the needs of Pyeongtaek have changed, so we have worked closely with the team at IHG Hotels & Resorts and city officials to reconsider the future needs of its residents and visitors. This led us to make the landmark decision to bring the world’s largest luxury hotel brand to Pyeongtaek.

“We have been able to redesign the development to fit the needs of a luxury hotel, and the City Planning Division has incorporated the enhanced requirements into the masterplan. InterContinental Hotels & Resorts is the ideal brand for this project due to its exceptional reputation in Korea and around the world, and guests will be able to experience modern luxury, wonderful design, and a global flavour through the brand’s hallmarks.”

The new property will be the fourth InterContinental hotel in Korea and promises to be a destination in its own right thanks to its distinctive style and ambience. It will welcome city residents and travellers at its wide range of restaurants and bars, and rooftop pool with stunning views of the surrounding areas, as well as provide ample meeting space for functions and events.

Serena Lim, Vice President, Development, South East Asia and Korea, IHG said: “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Seraphim Development to grow the InterContinental brand in Korea, which has a long tradition in the country. InterContinental Pyeongtaek will become our fourth InterContinental hotel in Korea, and joins a growing global portfolio that’s taking the brand to new and exciting destinations.

“For long term sustainable growth, it’s important we have the right brands in the right location with the right owner, and in bringing InterContinental to Pyeongtaek we’re showing how well we’re adapting with the times and looking ahead to deliver the right experience for travellers to this fast-growth tech-driven city.”

Singapore Food Festival

Singapore Food Festival

August 16, 2022 – Singapore Food Festival 2022 set to cook up a storm with a Festival Village and over 70 experiences

The annual Singapore Food Festival (SFF) returns for its 29th edition from 24 August to 11 September 2022, with a feast of over 70 gastronomic experiences based on the pillars of heritage, contemporary and innovation. For the first time since the pandemic, SFF 2022 offers a sumptuous spread of in-person experiences, including a Festival Village with over 25 food establishments and a special 9-course dinner, as well as an array of workshops, tours, and exclusive menus at partner restaurants.

Foodies residing outside Singapore can also enjoy a taste of authentic local fare through SFF activations in select countries and virtual masterclasses, or go behind-the-scenes to learn more about the lives of local chefs and brands through SFF-exclusive video content on the festival site.

Ms Teyi Guo, Director, Retail & Dining, Singapore Tourism Board, said: “The Singapore Food Festival has always been a celebration of our multi-cultural local cuisine, and a global platform for our chefs, bartenders and food personalities.

As international travel resumes, we are excited to bring SFF back to its usual format, with engaging in-person programming so visitors can fully experience the international palate of our city. We encourage everyone to come and experience Singapore cuisine in a new way through our exciting line-up of both in-person and virtual experiences.”

Singapore Food Festival Programming Highlights

This year’s line-up, with the theme ‘Real Foodies Only’, comprises several components: the Festival Village, limited-time menus at partner restaurants, tours and workshops, virtual offerings, as well as overseas activations.

The Festival Village will bring together over 25 culinary and beverage brands at the Bayfront Event Space from 31 August to 11 September 2022 for the Singapore Food Festival. Over 25 food establishments will serve familiar favourites with an innovative twist, such as Jelebu Dry Laksa’s signature dish topped with Boston lobster and tiger prawns.

Singapore’s hottest food truck The Goodburger is set to sizzle with Blue Lotus Eating House on a SFF-exclusive plant-based Golden Chilli Crab Burger, while the newly-minted Michelin Bib Gourmand stall One Prawn & Co will collaborate with heritage brand Hock Lian Huat to present a thick, silky prawn bisque with shrimps, mussels and clams (above), alongside a ngoh hiang (five-spiced meat rolls) platter.

The Chef Arena situated within the grounds of the Festival Village will present a special 9-course dinner created by top culinary masters featured in SFF 2022’s virtual masterclasses, complete with a Martell Noblige cocktail created by Juan Yi Jun, the head bartender of No Sleep Club.

Complementing the food offerings is a curated line-up of workshops for those who prefer to get hands-on. Foodies can learn the art of mixing spices from 3rd generation owner, Jeya Seelan from traditional spice stall Jeya Spices; as well as gather Thermomix tips to whip up delicious meals with cookbook author Annie Xavier and passionate home bakers.

There will also be a Marketplace featuring a curated selection of merchandise and an Entertainment stage presented by Tiger Beer.

Beyond the Festival Village, various restaurants island-wide will offer festival-exclusive dishes. In an ode to the melting pot of cultures in Singapore, Two Men Bagel House will present a bagelwich (left) packed with the aromatic flavours of Chinese, Indian and Malay curries; while Italian meets Malay at Italian-inspired restaurant and bar Dopo Teatro with its sambal goreng pizza.

In a meeting of old and new, deli veteran Steeple’s Deli will collaborate with new-school Park Bench Deli for a 1-day pop-up at Steeple’s Deli, featuring sandwiches that incorporate the former’s mouth-watering corned beef and the latter’s pastrami.

Foodies with a sweet tooth must try the Teh Halia flavoured ice cream or the guava sorbet with sour plum powder by Made With Passion[1] brands The Ice Cream & Cookie Co. and Creamier.

For foodies with an adventurous streak, various tours and workshops are happening around the island during the festival period. Foodies can also sign up for a plant-based cheese and gin pairing workshop by Nut Culture and Brass Lion Distillery, for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the distillery and an introduction to the botanicals that make up their Singapore Dry Gin (left).

For those who crave interactive drama, learn to make comfort foods of the 60s’ while being regaled with stories by grandpas and grandmas, in an immersive theatrical workshop by Oh! Stories.

The 191 spacious guest rooms and nine suites feature a modern, thoughtful design characterized by warm wood tones reflecting the tropical dry forest vegetation typical for the area, bright and cheerful colors, flooded with natural light and weaving in uniquely Colombian character. Each room features technology-enabled work surfaces, open closets to alleviate fears of leaving clothes behind, relaxing bathrooms, and LED TVs. Additionally, through the first-of-its-kind, longstanding partnership with Marriott Hotels and TED, guests will have access to specially curated in-room TED content to enjoy during their stay.

“We are thrilled to bring Marriott Hotels to Barranquilla and continue expanding our global footprint in enriching destinations,” said Jason Nuell, Senior Vice President, Premium Brands, Marriott International. “The Marriott Hotels name is synonymous with hospitality, earning the trust of travelers around the globe, and Barranquilla Marriott Hotel is poised to continue the brand’s living legacy with its sophisticated spaces, exceptional service, and elevated experiences.”

Barranquilla Marriott Hotel features two restaurants and one bar, inviting guests to experience local culture through food, music, and the Colombian hospitality. Amira Restaurant, whose name pays homage to the women who have enriched the culinary culture of the city, delights diners with elevated local cuisine, featuring dishes made from local products, adding creative twists. Meira Café showcases a coffee ritual, a wide array of Colombian coffee flavors, and local breads and pastries. The Rum Room offers guests unique tastings and pairings in a space dedicated to liquors produced in destinations that grow sugar cane. Available to Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite, Titanium Elite, and Ambassador Elite members as well as paying guests, M Club – a brand signature across Marriott Hotels globally – is an exclusive space to rest, recharge, and refocus, every day at any time. A range of complimentary food and beverage options featuring hot breakfast, evening drinks and hors d’oeuvres, and premium beverages are offered throughout the day. Additional amenities include a state-of-the-art fitness center, laundry service, outdoor swimming pool, and special accommodations for four-legged guests.

Designed to foster collaboration, the hotel’s Next Gen Meeting Spaces can adapt to a variety of formats and group sizes. With over 19,000 square feet of meeting space including a ballroom for 750 people, the hotel is the perfect destination for business or social gatherings.

“We are pleased to welcome global travelers and locals alike to our new hotel with an enriching experience inspired by the local and cheerful culture of the city of Barranquilla,” said Marcela Steffens, General Manager, Barranquilla Marriott Hotel. “Offering a prime location whether traveling for business or leisure or a blend of the two, we look forward to delivering excellence at every turn with heartfelt service.”

Nestled in the Caribbean Coast, Barranquilla, also known as “The Golden Gate of Colombia”, is one of the five most important cities in Colombia and a major tourist destination for both locals and travelers. The city is recognized for being the birthplace of renowned musicians, writers, athletes, and fashion designers, as well as being the venue for the main cultural event in Colombia – Carnival of Barranquilla – for five days full of magic, music, color, and joy that is celebrated every year. Barranquilla is the largest city on the Caribbean coast, located next to the delta of the Magdalena River and close to the Caribbean Sea, serving as a port for river and maritime transportation. To the north of Barranquilla, there are some of the best Colombian beaches, with soft sand and crystal-clear waters.

Barranquilla Marriott Hotel will participate in Marriott Bonvoy – the award-winning travel program from Marriott International – allowing members to earn and redeem points for their stay at the new hotel, and at other hotels and resorts across Marriott Bonvoy’s extraordinary portfolio of brands. With the Marriott Bonvoy app, members enjoy a level of personalization and a contactless experience that allows them to travel with peace of mind.
