Havila Voyages confirms May start date for second ship

April 25, 2022 –

The ship, which was due to start operating on 7 April, is being built at the Tersan shipyard in Turkey, where it is currently unable to carry out sea trials due to challenges with an electric motor.

The CEO of Havila Kystruten, Bent Martini commented: “I apologise to those passengers who have been looking forward to exploring the Norwegian coast on Havila Castor. We very much look forward to welcoming them on board in future and are contacting them to discuss an alternative voyage.”

Havila Voyages

Martini goes on to confirm that Havila’s first ship, Capella, has been well received and that both Havila Capella and Havila Castor are now almost fully booked throughout the summer season.

“We have had alot of feedback from satisfied guests who are enjoying the good food and large cabins and appreciate the ship’s large windows showcasing the regions she sails through. They are also giving us positive comments about the high standard of service and comfortable accommodation onboard.”

Delays for Havila Polaris and Havila Pollux

Martini continues “We assume that Havila Polaris will start operating in the third quarter and Havila Pollux in the fourth quarter of this year. At this stage we are unable to confirm the exact dates but are doing everything we can to ensure we can put these ships into operation as quickly as possible, for the benefit of all who will travel and work on board.”

A new agreement has been made with the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications, responsible for Havila’s coastal contract, who have confirmed they are not demanding replacement ships are put in place during these delays.

Utopia of the Seas – new cruise ship Spring 2024 – powered by LNG

Utopia of the Seas

Utopia of the Seas – construction begins on new Royal Caribbean ship.

April 19, 2022 – Coming Spring 2024, the Sixth Oasis Class Ship Will be the First of its Class Powered by LNG

A new adventure has begun: Construction on the sixth ship in Royal Caribbean International’s revolutionary Oasis Class is now underway in Saint-Nazaire, France. The cruise line revealed the name of the upcoming ship, Utopia of the Seas, at the steel-cutting ceremony that took place in the Chantiers de l‘Atlantique shipyard.

Utopia of the Seas

Come spring 2024, the first Oasis Class ship powered by LNG (liquefied natural gas) will be a bold evolution of the class of ships that changed the industry more than a decade ago.

“We are excited to begin construction on Utopia of the Seas,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean International. “On the sixth Oasis Class ship, vacationers can look forward to the signature combination of Royal Caribbean experiences and many brand-new adventures that has and will continue to make the Oasis class of ships the ultimate vacation for guests of all ages.”

At the ceremony, Utopia’s first piece of steel was cut to mark the start of the 30-month journey that is the construction process. Representatives from Royal Caribbean and Chantiers de l’Atlantique attended the milestone event, including Jason Liberty, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group; and Laurent Castaing, General Manager, Chantiers de l’Atlantique.

Royal Caribbean’s game-changing Oasis Class redefined cruising with the introduction of Oasis of the Seas in 2009.

Today, these ships are known as the ultimate vacations for families and travelers of all ages. With the recent debut of Wonder of the Seas, the renowned class continues to push what is possible with innovations across every aspect of the cruise experience – from unparalleled thrills to original entertainment, and now a transition to cleaner energy.

By introducing the first LNG-powered Oasis Class ship, the cruise line will take yet another step toward a clean-energy future after its first LNG ship, Icon of the Seas, debuts in fall 2023.

The use of the cleanest fossil fuel available to cruise ships today and additional environmentally friendly applications on board Utopia will boost energy efficiencies and further reduce emissions overall.

Learn more details about Utopia at a later date on Royal Caribbean’s website.

April 14, 2022 – Lisbon Cruise

Lisbon Cruise – Silversea’s Silver Dawn is launched

Silversea Cruises has officially named its 10th ship, Silver Dawn, in Lisbon. Executives from Royal Caribbean Group®, Silversea Cruises, and Fincantieri, as well as local dignitaries and esteemed guests, celebrated the milestone with a formal ceremony and gala dinner. An expression of Silversea’s rapid expansion, Silver Dawn becomes the cruise line’s third new ship to debut in nine months. The launch of Silver Dawn also marks the debut of Otium, travel’s most indulgent new wellness programme, as well as the next iteration of Silversea’s S.A.L.T. culinary programme.

FIRST: THE NAMING CEREMONY MARKS SILVER DAWN’S OFFICIAL DEBUT

After Royal Caribbean Group’s customary bagpipe performance, which opened the formal naming ceremony, performers took to the stage, entertaining attendees with a performance that weaved a narrative from the 2021 launch of Silver Moon to the modern day and the launch of Silver Dawn. Singers recited the national anthems of the U.S.A., Italy, and Portugal, before a religious leader blessed the ship and dignitaries delivered speeches. The newly named Godmother of Silver Dawn, Nilou Motamed—an influential food and travel editor, tastemaker, and television personality—subsequently cut the ribbon to trigger a champagne bottle to smash on the ship’shull, signalling the end of the ceremony.

“Celebrating the naming of Silver Dawn in Lisbon marked an incredibly proud moment for all involved,” said Jason Liberty, President and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group. “I thank and congratulate Roberto Martinoli and our entire team, including Captain Failla and thecrew, as well as everyone at Fincantieri, our ship building partners. Silver Dawn is a jewel in the Silversea fleet and speaks to Royal Caribbean Group’s commitment to delivering the best vacation experiences in a responsible way.”

“An evolution of our unique take on luxury, Silver Dawn is the third Silversea ship to be named in the last nine months,” said Roberto Martinoli, President & CEO, Silversea Cruises. “As well as S.A.L.T., our immersive culinary programme, Silver Dawn enriches guests’ travels with Otium, our indulgent new wellness programme, which is inspired by the ancient Roman lifestyle. She really is magnificent. I extend my gratitude to Jason Liberty and all involved at Royal Caribbean Group, as well as to the team at Silversea, Fincantieri, and Captain Failla and his crew—our most valuable asset. Moreover, I proudly welcome Nilou Motamed as the Godmother of Silver Dawn.”

NILOU MOTAMED: GODMOTHER OF SILVER DAWN

An Emmy-nominated television personality and former editor-in-chief of some of the world’s leading culinary brands, including Food & Wine and Epicurious, Nilou Motamed has been shaping the conversation in food and travel for more than 20 years. Born in Iran, raised in Paris and New York, Motamed is fluent in four languages — and believes “food is a language of its own, one in which everyone can find comfort, compassion, and community.” Her passion for culinary adventures and far-flung cuisines has found a perfect match in Silversea’s S.A.L.T. programme, which the New York resident first experienced with its launch in 2021.

“It’s a great honour to have been selected as the Godmother of Silver Dawn and to have been on board for her naming ceremony in Lisbon,” says Motamed. “Growing up in multiple countries has helped me recognize that one of our deepest common bonds, wherever we go, is food. Like many of Silversea’s guests, I always pair my cultural explorations with culinary ones. That’s why I’ve loved seeing the world through Silversea’s S.A.L.T. programme. I’ve dedicated my career to celebrating authentic, local cuisines and cultures. For me, nothing is more rewarding than connecting with people over a shared meal.”

“An authority in the world of food and drink, Nilou is a curious, intelligent traveller,” continues Martinoli. “Her mission to delve deeper into cultures through food, to truly understand places and their people, reflects that of Silversea’s culinary programme, S.A.L.T.. It is this strong spirit of discovery, this commitment to self-enrichment and complete cultural immersion, that makes Nilou the perfect Godmother for our newest ship. Aboard Silver Dawn, our guests will discover the world with purpose, while journeying in Silversea’s trademark level of comfort.”

First Cruise Ship Set to Return to Canada as Country Reopens Cruising After Two-Year Absence

Holland America Line’s Koningsdam Calls at Victoria and Vancouver April 9 and 10 with local governments holding celebratory events

Holland America Line will be the first cruise line to return to Canadian cruising following a more than two year industrywide pause due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Koningsdam will call at Victoria, British Columbia, Saturday, April 9, restarting the cruise industry in Canada. The following day the ship will end its current seven-day cruise at Port of Vancouver, its homeport for the summer Alaska season.

Koningsdam

Holland America Line’s Koningsdam to be first ship to cruise Canada in more than two years.

“We are thrilled to be the first cruise line back into Canada after such a long absence, and we look forward to celebrating a great moment for everyone who loves to travel and for those in Canada and Alaska whose livelihoods depend on tourism,” said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line. “Holland America Line has a robust schedule of cruises that explore Canadian ports on both coasts with Alaska, Hawaii, transatlantic and Canada and New England itineraries.”

Koningsdam’s call at Victoria marks 905 days since a cruise ship has visited the port, and it also will be a maiden call for the ship. To mark the milestones, Antorcha and local government officials will be on hand in both Victoria and Vancouver to celebrate the return to Canadian cruising and address the importance Canada and Alaska to Holland America Line.

In 2022, six Holland America Line ships will call at Victoria and Vancouver for the Alaska cruise season. In total, the six ships will make 45 calls at Victoria and bring nearly 75,000 guests to the port, and 76 cruises begin or end at Vancouver, welcoming approximately 140,000 guests.

For Canada and New England cruising on the East Coast, two ships return in May and cruise between Boston, Massachusetts, and Quebec City or Montreal, Quebec. Nieuw Statendam and Zaandam offer itineraries ranging from seven to 24 days to more than 12 Canadian ports.

In total for 2022, Holland America Line operates 141 cruises on eight ships in Canada with more than 250,000 guests visiting both coasts.

Holland America Line has been exploring the world since 1873 and was the first cruise line to offer adventures to Alaska and the Yukon nearly 75 years ago. Its fleet of premium ships visits nearly 400 ports in 114 countries around the world, offering an ideal mid-sized ship experience. A third Pinnacle-class ship, Rotterdam, joined the fleet in July 2021.

The leader in premium cruising, Holland America Line’s ships feature innovative initiatives and a diverse range of enriching experiences focused on destination exploration and personalized travel. The best live music at sea fills each evening at Music Walk, and dining venues feature exclusive selections from Holland America Line’s esteemed Culinary Council of world-famous chefs.

Costa Cruises restart from Genoa with 45 calls

cruise news

Costa Cruises restart:

blank

April 8, 2022  –  Costa Cruises restart with 45 calls in 2022.

In 2022, Costa Firenze will visit Genoa every Thursday until the end of November for a total of 45 calls, offering cruises in the Western Mediterranean, with the return of free visits in the ports of call.
Costa Firenze’s debut in Genoa was the occasion to host an on-board event on the future of the cruise tourism in Genoa, and to sign with the city’s institutions the “Manifesto for value-driven, sustainable and inclusive tourism”.

Today, Costa Cruises restarts with Costa Firenze made her debut in Genoa, inaugurating the restart of Costa’s cruises from the city.

In 2022 the Italian company, which started cruising in July last year, will call at Genoa every Thursday until the end of November 2022, for a one-week Western Mediterranean itinerary, which also includes Marseille, Barcelona, Cagliari, Palermo and Civitavecchia/Rome. In addition to Costa Firenze, from November 13th until the end of the year, Costa Luminosa will also be in Genoa every Sunday, again for one-week cruises in the Western Mediterranean.

Costa Cruises restarts from Genoa:

In 2022 Costa will be in Genoa for a total of 45 calls, after only a few calls in 2021 and 2020 due to the Covid emergency. In 2023 Costa expects a further growth of her presence in Genoa, thanks to the arrival, every Friday from April to November, of Costa Toscana, the new Liquefied Natural Gas-powered ship of the fleet.

Costa Cruises restarts today – there will be another important innovation on board of Costa Firenze, as her guests will be able to visit Genoa freely, either by taking part in the excursions organized by the company, without the need for the “bubble” that protected them from contact with the external people, or independently, getting off the ship on their own. The new regulations, which came into force on April 1st, will be applied to all destinations, subject to compliance with any requirements imposed by local authorities.

“After a two-year pause, Costa Cruises restarts and  are finally returning regularly with our cruises to Genoa. We are doing so with a new-generation ship, Costa Firenze, and an even richer product that will allow to explore our destinations in the best possible way” – said Mario Zanetti, President of Costa Cruises. “Costa Firenze, as well as the other ships in the fleet, offers the opportunity to generate shared value in the territories, and contribute to creating models of future development that are sustainable and able to multiply growth opportunities for the territory. I am thinking, for example, of projects such as cold ironing, i.e., the use of land-based energy for ships calling at ports.”

Costa Firenze’s first call was an opportunity to talk about the enhancement of the territory, port facilities and sustainable innovation, during a conference entitled “The future of cruise tourism and the Genoa model”, hosted on board and attended by representatives of the institutions and companies involved in cruise activities in the port of Genoa, including the President of the Liguria Region, Giovanni Toti, and the Mayor of Genoa, Marco Bucci.

We are proud and honored to host the debut of this marvelous cruise ship in Genoa: today Costa Cruises sails again from Genoa  said the President of the Liguria Region, Giovanni Toti – This event, after the very difficult period we experienced with the health emergency, also marks the restart of the entire sector, in which Liguria is a leaderIn the last two years Costa Cruises has not lost ground but, on the contrary, has invested in health protocols in order to be prepared for this challenge, facing a season that we are convinced will be extraordinaryThe forecasts for this year see a growth that exceeds +110% of passengers compared to 2021: important figures, which make us confident in a strong recovery of the cruise sector, despite the effects of the ongoing conflict that we hope will soon find a diplomatic solution. Liguria has all the credentials to be ready to seize all the opportunities for development related to cruises, with the main Ligurian cities ready to welcome those who want to visit our wonderful land in the coming weeks and months”.

Cruises has always been a strategic sector for Genoa thanks to its ability to generate employment and bring tourists to our city – said the mayor of Genoa, Marco Bucci. “Everything, however, must take place under the sign of sustainability. For this reason, we are pleased that Costa is promoting, also through its Manifesto, a conscious and sustainable tourism. We are ready to give our support”.

Costa Firenze, built at Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera and dedicated to the Florentine Renaissance, is a 135,000-ton ship with 2,136 guest cabins. With 13 different restaurants and 8 bars, the food and wine offer is among the widest in the fleet.

There are plenty of outdoor spaces to fully enjoy the sailing experience. Families with children will be able to choose between different activities to do on board, including a water park and an adventure park, and couples will find a private spa, swimming pools and various spaces to enjoy a moment of privacy. The offer of excursions available has been redesigned to explore hidden and less frequented gems, and to enjoy the most authentic traditions, flavors and colors.

Stricter environmental measures for cruise ships in Canada

cruise news

Stricter environmental measures for cruise ships in Canada

blank

blank

blank

April 07, 2022 – Stricter environmental measures for cruise ships in Canada

This week, the government of Canada, in coordination with industry, announced new environmental measures for cruise ships in Canadian waters that exceed international standards.

For the 2022 season, cruise operators will implement stricter environmental measures regarding greywater and blackwater (greywater is defined as the drainage from sinks, laundry machines, bathtubs, shower stalls or dishwashers and blackwater is defined as the wastewater from bathrooms and toilets).

The measures include:
  • Prohibiting the discharge of greywater and treated blackwater within three nautical miles from shore where geographically possible
  • Treating greywater together with blackwater before it is discharged between three and 12 nautical miles from shore to the greatest extent possible
  • Strengthening the treatment of blackwater between three and 12 nautical miles from shore using an approved treatment device
  • Reporting to Transport Canada compliance with these measures as they relate to discharges made within Canadian waters.

These measures will better protect Canada’s oceans and the marine environment and will support the work that is underway to conserve 25 percent of Canada’s oceans by 2025 and 30 percent by 2030. Although currently only in effect for 2022, the government of Canada plans to make these changes permanent.

In a statement, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), said, “Transport Canada’s announcement [Monday] regarding new environmental measures is a result of ongoing dialogue with the cruise industry and reflects the industry’s commitment to environmental stewardship and continually advancing environmental sustainability practices.”

It continued: “CLIA cruise line members have instituted industry policies that in many cases are more comprehensive than national and international regulations on wastewater discharges. For example, CLIA members must implement a mandatory CLIA policy to not discharge untreated sewage in the ocean, anywhere, anytime, under normal operations even though international regulations allow such discharges within specific guidelines.

Many CLIA members’ ships are equipped with Advanced Waste Treatment Systems (AWTS), and all new ship builds will use AWTS, which treat wastewater to a tertiary level, a higher standard than wastewater treatment facilities in some coastal cities in both the United States and Canada.”

Canada Cruising Resumes

As announced in early March, cruising in Canada was OK’d cruising from the start of April. Health measures in place include all crew and passengers being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and passengers being required to take a COVID-19 molecular test within 72 hours before boarding a cruise ship or taking an antigen test within one day of boarding a cruise ship.

“CLIA applauds Canada’s decision to welcome cruise ships back for a 2022 season,” the association said this week. “This decision allows the tourism sector to start rebuilding the 30,000 jobs and more than $4 billion in economic activity that were generated by the cruise industry across Canada prior to 2020, while strengthening connections to neighbouring regions.”

P&O Ferries suspension

March 18, 2022 – P&O Ferries suspension

A look at how the halting of services will affect those who are planning to travel.

P&O Ferries suspension

All the company’s ferry services are currently suspended. P&O normally operates 14 services a day between Dover and Calais, three between Liverpool and Dublin, and seven on the increasingly important freight route between Larne in County Antrim and Cairnryan in Dumfries and Galloway. There is also normally an overnight ferry from Hull to Rotterdam. This has been cancelled, along with all other services.

I am due to travel shortly – what do I do?

On the Dover-Calais route there is plenty of capacity for those looking to take a car over to France. Rival operator DFDS has ferries running every 40 minutes or so to Calais or Dunkirk.

P&O ticket holders are being directed to these services, and DFDS is accepting P&O tickets.

In its latest posting, P&O says: “If travelling on our Dover/Calais route please arrive at the port as booked and we will arrange to get you away on an alternative carrier as quickly as possible. Once at the port please make your way to the DFDS check-in booths.”

P&O Ferries suspension: Those hoping to take ferries to Ireland face having to switch ferry company, and to buy a new reservation. Stena Line runs from Cairnryan to Belfast while Irish Ferries operates from Holyhead to Dublin.

Those travelling from Hull to Rotterdam face the biggest disruption and longest drives. Stena offers Harwich to the Hook of Holland – the nearest replacement for those needing to travel urgently. P&O will have to refund passengers for crossings not taken.

What about freight and P&O Cruises?

With not many car drivers travelling on ferries right now, the biggest disruption to services will be to truck operators. Queues of trucks have already built up in Kent. The company accounts for about 15% of UK freight movements so some knock-on effects can be expected, and trade to Ireland will be affected.

P&O Ferries suspension: P&O Cruises is owned by Carnival, and is therefore completely unaffected by this.

How long is this going to last?

P&O has said the disruption will last several days. It is unclear how long it will take the company to remove existing staff who are understandably furious at their treatment.

The RMT union has instructed members to stay onboard their vessels once they have docked or risk being “locked out” of their jobs.

“We are digging in for the long haul. We are determined to fight,” RMT spokesperson Geoff Martin said.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen how long it takes the company to train up the new agency staff that have reportedly been brought in to replace them. If other support workers at the affected docks refuse to work with the company, this could easily escalate into a protracted dispute.

I have a booking for my summer holiday or credit voucher I have not yet used – what does this mean to me?

The company is still trading, and has made it very clear that it is not going into liquidation. In theory this means nothing has changed and the company should honour your summer booking and allow passengers to use credit vouchers that they accepted in lieu of cancelled trips last year. If the company did collapse, future reservation and voucher holders would then face a battle to recoup their funds. Travel insurers and credit card companies would be expected to step in for some (but not all) customers.

I am disgusted at the way the company has behaved. Can I cancel my summer booking?

Possibly. Passengers who booked the company’s most expensive Fully Flexi, and the medium priced Standard Flexi tickets are refundable, meaning passengers could cancel without financial penalty. Those who booked the cheapest Saver tickets are stuck with non-refundable tickets. There would be nothing to stop you cancelling but it would be at your expense.

Will the company face a mass boycott?

It is highly likely. By Thursday afternoon many had expressed their outrage on Twitter. Car drivers are important, but for a boycott to really have an effect it would have to include freight operators. They typically care less for employee rights but equally many will be frustrated at the way the company has gone about this. Truck drivers have described waiting hours at Calais with no P&O staff in sight. – P&O Ferries suspension –

March 16, 2022 – Canada reopens to cruise ships

SEABOURN IS SET TO EXPLORE ALASKA AND BRITISH COLUMBIA AND CANADA AND NEW ENGLAND IN 2022 AS CANADA REOPENS PORTS TO CRUISE SHIPS

Following the recent announcement from Transport Canada allowing the safe resumption of cruising to visit Canadian ports, Seabourn, the ultra-luxury ocean and expedition cruise line, is finalizing plans for its 2022 scheduled voyages to Alaska and British Columbia in this summer and Canada and New England in the fall.

 Canada reopens to cruise ships

The new guidance paves the way for Seabourn guests to sail for the first time in two years on these popular itineraries that include stops in various Canadian ports throughout the summer and fall.

“We welcome this new guidance from the Canadian government that will allow our guests to visit beautiful ports in Canada again,” said Josh Leibowitz, President of Seabourn. “We look forward to returning to these amazing destinations and offering our travelers a world of experiences on land and at sea. With only 458 guests on board the Seabourn Odyssey, these voyages to Canada this summer space is very limited.”

In 2022, Seabourn will offer a selection of voyages on both the eastern and western sides in Canada.

Canada reopens to cruise ships:

Alaska and British Columbia
From May through September 2022, Seabourn Odyssey will sail to Alaska and British Columbia with a series of seven-day voyages between Vancouver and Juneau. Each seven-day cruise can be combined to create a 14-day round-trip Vancouver voyage. In addition, the ship will sail four 10- and 11-day round-trip voyages from Vancouver. Each voyage will include spectacular glacier experiences in places like Glacier Bay, Hubbard Glacier or Tracy/Endicott Arm, and will also offer the popular Ventures by Seabourn program of expedition-style experiences led by the onboard expedition team.

Canada and New England
Beginning late August 2022, Seabourn Quest will explore the vivid beauty of autumn along the eastern side of Canada with a series of 12-day voyages to Canada and New England. The ship will sail between Montreal and Manhattan in New York City, with one 12-day Canadian Autumn cruise with heavy Canadian content sailing round-trip from Montreal on September 22. With the season cooling, the ship will head south in late October from Montreal on a 14-day Atlantic Coast Harbors cruise to Miami.

Seabourn represents the pinnacle of ultra-luxury travel. Our all-inclusive, boutique ships offer all-suite accommodations with oceanfront views; award-winning dining; complimentary premium spirits and fine wines available at all times; renowned service provided by an industry-leading crew; a relaxed, sociable atmosphere that makes guests feel at home; a pedigree in expedition travel through the Ventures by Seabourn program and two new ultra-luxury purpose-built expedition ships coming in 2022 and 2023.

Seabourn takes travelers to every continent on the globe, visiting more than 400 ports including marquee cities and lesser-known ports and hideaways.

Guests of Seabourn experience extraordinary offerings and programs, including partnerships with leading entertainers, dining, personal health and wellbeing, and engaging speakers.

Australia cruises will resume from April 1st

March 16, 2022 – Australia announced it would lift its entry ban for international cruise ships next month, effectively ending all major COVID-related travel bans after two years and boosting a tourism industry hit hard by the pandemic restrictions.

Australia cruises will resume from April 1st

Australia banned the entry of cruise ships in March 2020, when they were the source of about 20% of Australia’s early coronavirus infections. The vessels became a flashpoint in its pandemic response after symptomatic passengers were allowed to disembark in Sydney, many of whom later tested positive.

The federal government said it would not renew the current ban beyond April 17 as the country begins to live with the coronavirus after reaching higher vaccination levels. Last month, Australia fully reopened its airports to vaccinated international travellers.

Before the pandemic, Australia welcomed more than 600,000 cruise ship passengers across its ports from almost 350 vessels in 2019, according to official data, a major source of revenue for the country’s A$60 billion ($43 billion) tourism industry.

“I can’t wait to see our cruise terminals once again filled with arriving international passengers, getting this important industry ship-shape and back out on the water once more,” Minister for Home Affairs Karen Andrews said in a statement.

The further ease in restrictions come amid the threat from the highly contagious BA.2 sub-variant of the Omicron coronavirus strain, which authorities have warned could double daily infections in the next four to six weeks.

Panoramic Vltava River Cruise in Prague

Panoramic Vltava River Cruise in Prague

To enjoy another view of Prague, embark on a typical small boat covered with wood, whose interior decoration is of 19th century inspiration.

The itinerary includes a last preserved arch of the Judith Bridge, Old River canals, water bunkers, as well as many “scenery” of the historic core of Prague. A refreshment is included.

Vltava River Cruise

Admire Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, Kampa Island and other highlights of Prague from the water on a popular Vltava River boat trip.

An absolute must with guaranteed 365° panoramic views of Prague Castle, Lesser Town, Old Town and the Jewish Quarter and of course the gorgeous gothic Charles Bridge and its dark high rising towers. Cruises are available throughout the whole day. Early morning sunlight, midday sun, golden sunsets, or enjoy an evening cruise and marvel at the spectacular twilight of the city.

The medieval town was built along the shallowest river shores and among hills which offers quite a unique view of the capital. A trip along the river truly is a must when visiting the city and gives you a new perspective of Prague.

MSC Cruise from New York

March 9, 2022 – MSC Cruises has announced that for the first time it will base one of its ships in New York and operate year-round sailings.

MSC Cruise from New York – MSC Meraviglia will homeport in the Big Apple from April 2023

MSC Meraviglia will homeport in the Big Apple from April 2023 for year-round cruises to the Caribbean, Bermuda, New England and Canada.

Many of the cruises from New York will visit Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve – a private island destination in the Bahamas.

The deployment is set to enhance MSC Cruises’ presence in the North American market by complementing the rich choice of ships and itineraries sailing from both Miami and Port Canaveral/Orlando in Florida and will give guests the opportunity to extend their holiday with a stay in New York either before or after their cruise.

Gianni Onorato, chief executive of MSC Cruises, said: “New York is one of the most incredible and vibrant destinations in the world so by adding the city as a year-round homeport for MSC Meraviglia we are greatly enhancing our offering in North America.

“The itineraries will have a very strong appeal not only for our guests in the United States but also for international holidaymakers and given the huge range of intercontinental flights to and from the Big Apple, these sailings will be accessible to guests from all around the world.”

Options are available for guests to book additional days before or after their holidays at sea to make the most of the city that never sleeps.

“We designed our mix of itineraries to take advantage of New York’s geographic flexibility, so that our guests can soak up the sun in the Caribbean during the spring and winter seasons, head to Bermuda during the summer or go north to see Canada’s natural beauty in the autumn.

“And of course, for those guests that wish to discover New York there is the option to do so pre or post their cruise to really make the most out of their holiday.”

March 7, 2022 – Costa Toscana, the newest Italian-flagged ship in the Costa Cruises fleet, has departed Savona on her maiden cruise.

Cruise travel in Italy, Costa Cruise departs on maiden voyage

Costa Toscana is a latest-generation ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), the most advanced technology currently available in the maritime sector to reduce emissions.

“Costa Toscana is an innovative ship that which fully interprets the new cruise experience, including the exploration of destinations, on which we have been working in recent months.

“The departure of Costa Toscana also represents a new step in the journey that will bring our fleet back to full capacity this summer.

“Our restart will bolster an ecosystem that before the pandemic generated an annual economic impact of €12.6 billion in Europe, including €3.5 billion in Italy alone, with over 63,000 jobs,” said Mario Zanetti, president of Costa Cruises.

“We are seeing an increasing demand for our cruises.

“Furthermore, as the general situation improves, we expect a simplification of our enhanced health and safety protocols, based on our ongoing monitoring of the pandemic.

“The work we are carrying out in this direction with the authorities is already well advanced.

“I believe that cruises will soon be back to normal, with new protocols that will allow our guests to fully enjoy the experiences on board and ashore, with the return, for example, of free excursions for guests”.

Costa Toscana marks the restart of the Costa Cruises fleet after the pandemic pause.

In fact, after Costa Toscana, seven more ships will return to operation, joining those already in service, until this summer, when the entire fleet of 12 ships will be operational again.

Carnival Freedom, previously announced as redeploying to Port Canaveral, Fla. in April 2022 to replace Carnival Elation, will continue to operate 4- and 5-day itineraries from Port Canaveral and itineraries will soon be open through Apr. 29, 2023.

While Carnival completes the swap of existing reservations to the new ship assignments and provides equivalent accommodations, the itineraries will remain closed for sale, and reservations will not be accessible for up to three weeks. Once the process has been completed, an email confirmation will be sent to guests, or to travel advisors, and the new reservation will be available for viewing on Carnival.com. The new ship assignments and itineraries will also open for sale at that time.

Presiding over the ceremony were Giuseppe Torrente, Shipyard Director for Fincantieri; and His Excellency Monsignor Tasca, Archbishop of Genoa.
