Denmark and Sweden and Norway drop covid rules

February 3, 2022 – Denmark and Sweden and Norway drop covid rules.

Almost all rules are non and void as of February 8 in Sweden and Norway. Denmark already opened up a few days ago. Denmark has lifted all of its domestic Covid-19 restrictions, including the wearing of face masks, making it the first European Union country to do so.

Nightclubs have reopened, late-night alcohol sales have resumed, and the Danish coronavirus app is no longer needed to enter venues.

While cases are still relatively high, the authorities say the virus no longer qualifies as a “critical threat”.

That is due to the country’s high vaccination rate, experts say.

Denmark and Sweden and Norway drop covid rules

Enough people have been vaccinated. In Norway the temporarily lock down has been removed.

Many other European countries are also opening up.

New_Zealand_Reopen

New Zealand to gradually reopen borders to travellers

blank

New_Zealand_Reopen

February 03, 2022, Officials in New Zealand have confirmed the country will begin to reopen its borders in the coming weeks.

New Zealand to gradually reopen borders to travellers

However, the process is not expected to be completed until October at the earliest.

Earlier plans to reopen the country were shelved as the Omicron variant of Covid-19 spread around the world.

Borders have been closed, apart from a short-lived travel bubble with Australia, for nearly two years in response to the pandemic.

“With our community better protected we must turn to the importance of reconnection,” explained prime minister, minister Jacinda Ardern.

“Our businesses need skills to grow.

“Exporters need to travel to make new connections.”

The border will initially open to vaccinated New Zealand citizens and visa holders coming from Australia, then from the rest of the world, and finally to all other vaccinated visitors.

Travellers will still have to self-isolate at home for ten days, but will no longer have to pass through space-limited managed isolation facilities, known as MIQ.

Fully vaccinated New Zealanders and other eligible travellers from Australia will be able to enter New Zealand without staying in MIQ from February 27th.

Two weeks later, they can come from all other countries.

Critical workers and skilled workers will be eligible to enter New Zealand from this date.

The working holiday scheme will also resume.

Ardern said the two-week gap will enable public health systems to adjust for the likelihood of more cases in the community, and will allow the border systems to “keep scaling up in the safest way possible”.

From April, 5,000 international students and other eligible temporary visa holders will be allowed to enter.

After that, the border opens to Australians and other travellers who do not require a visa to enter New Zealand.

All other international visitors will be allowed to enter New Zealand from October.

Bali reopens to foreign travellers

blank

Bali_reopen_borders

February 02, 2022, Indonesia’s holiday island of Bali will start welcoming back travellers from all countries from later this week, officials said, more than three months after announcing it was open to selected nationalities.

Bali reopens to foreign travellers

Though Bali officially opened to visitors from China, New Zealand, and Japan among other countries in mid October, there has since been no direct flights, tourism minister Sandiaga Uno said. The reopening follows similar announcements by Thailand and the Philippines, which put quarantine waivers on hold in December over initial uncertainty about vaccine efficacy against the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

The decision comes despite a steady rise in Indonesia’s COVID-19 cases this month, despite having brought outbreaks under control in the second half of last year. Health authorities have attributed the increase to Omicron. Known for its surfing, temples, waterfalls and nightlife, Bali drew 6.2 million foreign visitors in 2019, the year before COVID-19 struck, but tight pandemic border restrictions devastated tourism, which is usually worth 54% of its economy.

Taiwan lantern festival

Taiwan Lantern Festival is back!

blank

Taiwan lantern festival

February 2 2022 – The streets and night skies of Kaohsiung will be bathed in light as the city stages the 2022 Taiwan Lantern Festival, with this year’s event drawing on both tradition and modern innovation to mesmerise visitors to the city.

Taiwan Lantern Festival is back!

The Flying Phoenix lantern will light up Kaohsiung in 2022 Taiwan lantern festival. The festival, which will run for 28 days from February 1, will for the first time provide a model for collaboration between artisans who use time-honoured methods to construct traditional lanterns and cutting-edge artists from around the world.

Spread throughout the National Kaohsiung Centre for the Arts at Weiwuying and the city’s Love River Bay district, the festival will provide interactive experiences for visitors to learn about how traditional lantern art can be passed down to modern generations at the same time as harnessing advanced exhibition technology, such as high-speed, low-latency 5G for remote artistic displays.

First staged in 1990, the annual lantern festival is inspired by traditional folk celebrations on the fifteenth day of the first month, according to the lunar calendar, and to mark the end of the Lunar New Year. For centuries, people from China have marked the arrival of the New Year by carrying paper lanterns through their darkened streets, with the designs becoming far more elaborate and adventurous in recent years.

This year, Kaohsiung will be aglow with works by artists keen to put forward their own interpretations of light.

The event’s signature work is a cross-border collaboration that brings together lantern designer Benson Lu and renowned calligrapher Dong Yangzi. Together, they have created a work that transforms the Chinese character “feng,” which means phoenix, into an illuminated pheasant that is native to Taiwan spreading its wings atop a mountain.

Lighting up Kaohsiung, the Flying Phoenix lantern will use the aesthetics of lighting to communicate the message of effective urban governance, and increase awareness of Kaohsiung City around the world.

The artists and organizers of the festival hope visitors will be able to put the difficulties of the last year behind them, at least temporarily, and enjoy an occasion that will be a unique feast for the senses.

February 2, 2022  – Qantas will resume its daily nonstop service from Perth to London, from 27 March.

Qantas To Re-Launch Perth-London Nonstop Service

Due to restrictions imposed in Western Australia, the relaunch was delayed. However, the move had been anticipated earlier.

As a result, Qantas has used Darwin as an alternate departure airport.

It will be the same 236-seat B787-9s with 42 business class, 28 premium economy seats and 165 regular economy seats used for the flight.

The service which commences on 27 March, will be operated with the following schedules. Flights are now on sale.

  • QF10 departs London Heathrow at 1155, arriving in Perth at 1140 the following day. Flight time is 16 hours 45 minutes.
  • QF9 departs Perth at 1850, arriving in London Heathrow at 0505 the next day. Flight time is 17 hours 15 minutes.

Qantas has been flying nonstop to London since 2018 and plans to establish nonstop Sydney-London flights as part of Project Sunrise in the coming years.

Qantas had chosen the Airbus A350-1000 to fly nonstop from Sydney to London or Sydney to the rest of Europe in 2019.

However, due to the pandemic, the launch of a nonstop flight from Sydney to London has been put on hold.

Qantas must offer nonstop flights to Europe to compete with the several indirect airlines that operated over the kangaroo route before the pandemic.

Due to the pandemic, more changes remain possible and any limitations that governments may enforce.

Ryanair

Dublin Schedule by Ryanair – largest schedule launched with 120 Destinations and over 900 Flights Per Week

Dublin Schedule by Ryanair

February 1, 2022  – Dublin Schedule by Ryanair – 120 Destinations & Over 900 Flights Per Week

Ryanair, Europe’s no.1 airline announced its largest ever summer schedule from Dublin Airport, with 120 destinations and over 900 weekly flights available for its Irish customers this summer. This record-breaking schedule, which includes fantastic sun getaways to Spain, Portugal, Italy, including Sardinia & Sicily as well as exciting destinations in the Greek islands, Croatia and regional France.

Dublin Schedule by Ryanair

Ryanair will also increase its investment with the basing of a 33rd aircraft at Dublin Airport this summer, representing a further $100m investment and bringing its total investment at Dublin Airport to $3.3bn. Ryanair also confirmed today that it will create 30 direct jobs as a result of this additional aircraft based in Dublin.

Dublin Schedule by Ryanair: With an additional 22 routes compared with Summer 2019 and over 900 flights departing to over 120 destinations every week, this increased connectivity will delivery much needed inbound tourism while also giving Irish holiday makers an abundance of travel choices to top European destinations like Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia and Portugal.

After 2 years of stop\start ineffective travel restrictions, the daa have finally been given the tools to incentivise travel with its Traffic Recovery Support Scheme (TRSS) which was recommended by the Aviation Task Force in their report of July 2020.

This investment by Ryanair in its largest ever Dublin schedule is a direct result of the recently launched Traffic Recovery Scheme by the daa.

With many airlines cutting capacity and routes this summer, Ireland must lower access costs as it competes with regions and airports in other EU countries for a diminished pool of airline carriers in Europe which will shrink total short haul seats in Europe by up to 15% this summer.

Dublin Schedule by Ryanair – Ryanair is the only airline in Europe adding capacity in significant volume with the delivery of 67 new Gamechanger Aircraft (delivering -40% noise emissions, -16% fuel emissions, +4% seats) before the start of summer 2022.

If Ireland is to hold on to this capacity and connectivity then the TRSS scheme must at a minimum be extended by the Government into the winter ‘22/23 season to ensure that Irish inbound tourism, particularly post summer, secures the capacity, connectivity and tourists which are vital to the growth of the Irish economy.

To celebrate this exciting announcement, Ryanair has launched a limited-time seat sale with fares available from just €29.99 for travel until the end of June 2022 and if your plans change so can your booking, with our zero-change fee offer.

These fares are sure to be snapped up quickly, so make sure to log onto Ryanair.com before midnight Sunday, 23rd January and make up for the lost summers of 2020 and 2021 with a well-deserved summer getaway.

Across the continent, we’re seeing growing owner interest in our Collection brands, which allow hotels to maintain an independent look and feel, while benefiting from Hilton’s commercial systems and global customer base. We look forward to welcoming guests in the historic centre of Florence.”

Westmont Hospitality Group added, “We are excited to strengthen further our relationship with Hilton following our highly successful collaborations both in Italy and around the world. Originally built in 1792 as one of the first hotels in Florence that has also hosted Leo Tolstoy and Maria Callas among its former guests, the fully renovated Anglo American Hotel Florence will retain its historic and elegant grandeur while enjoying the added consistency and global recognition of the Curio Collection brand.”

Hilton joins a strong consortium including US-based fund, Oaktree; Westmont Hospitality Group, a strategic investment partner and operator and Unicredit S.p.A., the project’s senior lending bank. The project is held by a newly established real estate investment fund managed by Milan-based Castello SGR, one of Italy’s premier real estate management companies. The renovation will follow the parties’ commitment to ESG investment, with a particular focus on sustainability. The main emphasis will be on the restoration of the property in keeping with its architecture and history; the restoration of original finishes and utilisation of existing materials will make up a key part of the sustainability strategy.

The hotel will feature distinctly local offerings in a stunning setting, exemplifying the Curio Collection flair for authentic, curated experiences. Situated in the historic city centre, two blocks from the famous Arno River in a tranquil neighbourhood of central Florence, the elegant hotel reflects the history and the charm of the city with romantic Tuscan shutters and a sun-drenched interior courtyard typical of classic Italian villas.

Anglo American Hotel Florence, Curio Collection by Hilton is less than 15 minutes by foot to renowned palaces, churches, and museums — all replete with Renaissance art, including the works of the great masters such as Giotto, Brunelleschi, Botticelli, and Michelangelo, and the beautiful architecture that Florence is famed for. Top nearby attractions include the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Piazza Duomo, the Uffizi Palace and Gallery, the Accademia Gallery, and the Ponte Vecchio, the beautiful bridge spanning the Arno river.

After enjoying a delicious breakfast at the hotel and a day exploring all that Florence has to offer, guests may relax and enjoy a drink in the hotel’s outdoor courtyard, and dine at the hotel’s elegant restaurant, with Tuscan menus inspired by local flavours, traditions and seasonal ingredients. The hotel is also equipped with a bar, gym, and three meeting rooms able to accommodate up to 90 people.

The Florence train station is within walking distance from the hotel and connects the city through high-speed trains to Bologna, Rome, and Milan. The hotel is also located close to foreign consulates including the U.S., the Polimoda Fashion School and numerous corporate firms.

Anglo American Hotel Florence, Curio Collection by Hilton will join the award-winning Hilton Honors guest loyalty programme, allowing more than 123 million members who book directly with Hilton to earn Points for hotel stays and experiences. In addition, instant benefits include Digital Key, enabling Hilton Honors members to use their smartphone to book their stay, select their room, check in, and unlock their door.

February 01, 2022 – River cruise specialist, VIVA Cruises, has already welcomed its 2022 season with two cruises along the Rhine, which returned to Düsseldorf this year. With these sailings, VIVA Cruises becomes the only river cruise line operating every single month of 2022 – with no winter break.

VIVA Cruises unveils new themed cruises for 2022

It is running new art, cultural and wellness themed cruises from January to March this year on board VIVA TIARA, VIVA MOMENTS and SWISS RUBY.

VIVA TIARA, fully renovated in 2020, has 13 scheduled departures of its four-night “Arts, Culture and Culinary Delights” until March, which will be visiting the cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp. VIVA MOMENTS is running two different four-night itineraries along the Rhine focused on wellness and relaxation – Wellness trip Middle Rhine and Wellness trip Rhine-Main – all of them starting and ending in Düsseldorf.

Finally, SWISS RUBY, with capacity for just 88 guests, is offering a series of 7-night “Crime cruises” to Berlin and Düsseldorf. The rest of the VIVA Cruises fleet will be starting the season in March.

Andrea Kruse, COO of VIVA Cruises, said: “Our new themed cruises are being so well received by our international customers – bookings are growing day by day. MSC And Lufthansa Offer To Buy ITA Airways

February 01, 2022 – ITA Airways, the successor to Alitalia as Italy’s national carrier, has stated that MSC, a Swiss-Italian shipping corporation, and Lufthansa, have shown an interest in purchasing a controlling stake in the state-owned company.

MSC And Lufthansa Offer To Buy ITA Airways

MSC Group, which encompasses container shipping and logistics operations in addition to cruises, said late Monday in a statement that the merger will exploit efficiencies in both passenger and cargo, adding that Lufthansa has already expressed interest.

MSC and Lufthansa have both sought a 90-day exclusivity period to review ITA Airways’ financial data, during which time the state-owned airline will be unable to deal with other companies.

When ITA was launched in October of last year, its chairman Alfredo Altavilla told reporters that the company would seek a partnership with a larger airline by the end of 2022 since it is too small to compete on its own.

Altavilla also stated that he recognised synergies with freight, one of the most profitable areas of the business.

ITA Airways has been seeking an industrial partner, and a successful end to the MSC-Lufthansa business might assure the airline’s future as it replaces the faltering Alitalia.

ITA, or Italy Air Transport, was formally formed last October when insolvent flag carrier Alitalia landed its final flight, bringing to an end a 74-year commercial history marked by a succession of ignominious corporate dealings that failed to restore the carrier to health.

Former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi rejected an offer by KLM-Air France to acquire Alitalia, citing its strategic importance, only to give it over to a group of reluctant Italian investors, who finally sold a 49-percent stake to Abu Dhabi Etihad in 2014. By 2017, Alitalia has declared bankruptcy for the second time in a decade.

According to the Italian publication Il Post, several corporations have recently expressed interest in acquiring ITA Airways, which currently has a fleet of 52 aircraft and plans to expand to 105 by 2025.

MSC is the world’s largest container shipping line. It also has a cruise company, MSC Cruises, and operates in the aviation industry by leasing cargo planes to transport goods.

According to Il Post, acquiring a part in ITA Airways would be immensely significant for MSC since the shipping business would no longer have to rely on external airline operators.

Lufthansa, Europe’s largest airline in terms of aircraft, would be the company’s fourth investment in a smaller European carrier, following Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings.

Several media reports stated recently that Lufthansa was ready to make a deal on its own to purchase a 40% interest in ITA, which launched last October with a fleet that was less than half the size of its predecessor Alitalia.

According to Reuters, the news of the expression of interest evoked an initial positive reaction from Italy’s National Air Transport Federation (FNTA), which described MSC and Lufthansa as “two excellent partners who could guarantee future growth to ITA with an excellent international positioning.”
