Bulgari Hotels & Resort announced that an agreement has been signed with owner and developer Gary Safady, for a new luxury resort in Los Angeles. The new Bulgari Resort, scheduled to open in 2025, is set to be the second Bulgari property in the US, following the opening of the Miami property in 2024. The Bulgari Resort Los Angeles is expected to be the twelfth property in the Bulgari Hotels & Resorts collection.

The Bulgari Resort Los Angeles, located in the Santa Monica Mountains, less than five miles from Rodeo Drive, will be nestled amongst 33 acres of a stunning hillside park, surrounded by natural wildlife and remarkable views. Plans call for 58 rooms and suites, eight private estates and the signature Bulgari Il Ristorante – Niko Romito – as well as a 10,000 square foot Spa, a state-of-the-art-gym, offering Bulgari’s exclusive Workshop training method, a cinema and an exclusive eight-seat sushi bar.

A good portion of the hotel’s guest rooms and suites will be located in secluded bungalows studded across the eastern half of the property, adjacent to the property’s carefully curated amenities.

The Resort’s eight residential properties will range in size from 12,000 to 48,000 square feet, each with private land of at least one acre and as large as five. The unrivaled topography of Los Angeles’ canyons, allows for vast open space and privacy, giving each home a distinctive setting while preserving the area’s ridgeline and protecting its flora and fauna.

Drawing inspiration from the surrounding natural environment, the contemporary architecture of the building will be curated by the well-known South African design firm Studio SAOTA, while the Milanese architectural firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, that designed all the other Bulgari Hotels projects, will bring Italian design to the building’s interiors.

Additionally, the Bulgari Resort Los Angeles’s landscape design will be created by the award- winning Swiss landscape architect firm, ENEA, known for its work on the internationally recognized Tree Museum as well as his design of the Bulgari Hotel Beijing iconic garden. The combination of these internationally recognized design firms is set to create one of the most integrated, environmentally sensitive developments that the community and the City of Los Angeles has been presented with in a generation.

The resort, formerly known as The Retreat, will be built in line with the most stringent environmental criteria certified by LEED and only the highest sustainable building practices will be used to ensure minimal environmental impact.

The project is subject to the final approvals of the City Council and Planning Authorities of the City of Los Angeles.

Bulgari’s CEO Jean-Christophe Babin said: “We are extremely happy and proud to announce the signing of definitive agreements to develop the new Bulgari Resort in Los Angeles, the capital of cinema and art which has always been a major Bulgari inspiration from the time of Liz Taylor to the most recent Academy Awards. The new Bulgari gem represents an extraordinary achievement for the brand to establish in such a key destination for the luxury industry. Following the signing of Bulgari Hotel Miami Beach, we are excited to expand into the US market providing our remarkable Roman jeweler hospitality experience.”

Bulgari Resort Los Angeles’ developer Gary Safady adds: “We are delighted to partner with Bulgari Hotels & Resorts to bring the most sophisticated and luxurious retreat to Los Angeles. Bulgari is the epitome of luxury lifestyle and we look forward to creating an unparalleled experience of indoor/outdoor living through our enclave of suites, bungalows and private homes that truly embrace and support the surrounding environment and wildlife. The eight extraordinary private estates will be available for sale in the near future.”

Safady adds: “As part of our ongoing commitment to the City of Los Angeles, the surrounding community and the environment, we will be supporting several non-profit initiatives in Los Angeles, including but not limited to, a seven-figure contribution as part of our effort to ensure this project continues its focus of using business as a force for good.”

Chris Hannan, Executive Secretary for the Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council, AFL-CIO notes of the project: “I, along with the Building Trades Council, stand side-by-side with Gary Safady to bring the exciting Bulgari Resort Los Angeles to life. As a former union card holder, Gary has continued to demonstrate his long-time commitment to working families and we look forward to constructing this resort with him on this environmentally friendly project that we trust will fund hundreds of good union jobs, bring money to the city, preserve open canyon space, and welcome the community to engage with the project.”

LTI announces the world’s best luxury hotel brands 2021

hotel news

LTI – Luxury Travel Intelligence – has taken the past 12 months to apply the perfect assessment process: a rigorously defined algorithm that measures the performance and values of luxury hotel brands.

This year, our algorithm has 131 touch points relevant to the luxury hotel sector. Each has its own weighted score value with a total maximum accumulative score of 4736.

The touch points relate to overall brand performance, rather than the performance of individual properties. It is all about a brand’s ability to deliver: its passion, commitment, ethos and values, as well as the quality of its management and staff.

Continuing investment and how well it is executed is also a major factor, particularly regarding new properties and the refurbishment of existing ones.

This year’s results are reflected as percentages, with last year’s positions in brackets.
1. Six Senses 83.3% (1)
2. Mandarin Oriental 82.6% (5)
3. Auberge 81.8% (3)
4. Aman 81.4% (2)
5. Belmond 79.9% (4)
6. One&Only 77.0% (6)
7. Oetker Collection 75.7%  New Entry
8. Four Seasons 74.1% (8)
9. Rosewood 73.5% (7)
10. Raffles 72.7%   New Entry
11. Viceroy 72.2%  New Entry
12. COMO 71.0% (10)

Other brands that rated sufficiently to be monitored throughout the year are (in alphabetical order) Alila, Anantara, Banyan Tree, Dorchester Collection,  Firmdale,  Jumeirah,  Leela,  Oberoi,  Park Hyatt, Peninsula, Ritz Carlton, Rocco Forte, Shangri-La, Soho House, St. Regis, Taj, The Luxury Collection.

Brands that currently have less than ten properties (our minimum requirement) but rate highly when applying our algorithm are (in alphabetical order)  Airelles, Althoff Collection, Bulgari, Capella, Cheval Blanc, Maybourne, Montage, Nikki Beach, Pendry, Soneva.

SIX SPANISH RESTAURANTS FEATURED IN THE WORLD’S 50 BEST RESTAURANTS 2021

hotel news

blank

October 14, 2021 – The list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2021, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, was revealed on Tuesday 5th October in Antwerp, Flanders. The list features a fantastic selection of the world’s best restaurants based in over 25 countries and territories – with an incredibly impressive six restaurants being located in Spain.

Having been placed at number 49, Azurmendi in the Basque Country feels as if visitors are entering the Spanish chef Eneko Atxa’s home. Eneko provide a gastronomic experience in which the flavour and the beauty of each preparation are always linked to the landscape and the culture that shaped it. azurmendi.restaurant

At number 20, the 12-course tasting menu at Diverxo in Madrid takes diners through innovative, Asian-inspired dishes such as Iberian pork dumplings filled with Spanish broth and Korean gochujang with grilled cuttlefish and yellow pepper pil-pil. With twists and surprises at every turn, having a meal at Diverxo is like stepping inside Dabiz Muñoz’s limitless imagination. diverxo.com

The chef, Aitor Arregui, of Elkano in Getaria, placed at number 16, says his father claimed that to buy the best fish, one has to look the animal in the eyes and see that it still retains the brightness that means it is fresh. Today, his son and family run one of the most prestigious grills in the Basque Country and Spain. restauranteelkano.com

Mugaritz, San Sebastian, number 14 on the list, is exciting, avant garde and highly innovative. The creative dining experience developed by chef Andoni Luis Aduriz aims to open minds; his plates are designed to be more about providing a unique experience rather than being enjoyed by diners – a fine example of this is the gelatinous pork tendon that arrives mid-way through the experience. mugaritz.com

The contemporary techniques, daring combinations and the drive to surprise diners are among the features that Disfrutar, Barcelona, the restaurant placed at number five, embrace. Oriol Castro, Mateu Casañas and Eduard Xatruch create dishes such as panchino (a fluffy bun) stuffed with caviar and sour cream, or multi-spherical pesto with tender pistachios and eel, are designed to ‘please, surprise and excite’. disfrutarbarcelona.com

The top Spanish restaurant on the list, at number three overall, is Asador Etxebarri, found in the lush foothills of the Spanish Basque Country. It has been housed in the same rustic stone building since the 1990s. With sprawling views of mountains and grazing cattle visable from its terrace, where the welcome snacks are served, the restaurant is at one with history and nature. Victor Arguinzoniz is recognised with the Estrella Damm Chefs’ Choice Award 2021. asadoretxebarri.com

Three weeks before inaugural flight: pent-up demand for Eurowings offer to Prague

airline news

blank

blank

blank

blank

October 14, 2021 – Germany’s largest holiday airline ready to start services from Prague on 31 October

  • Thousands of tickets already sold in the Czech Republic: for individuals and local tour operators

  • Germany’s largest vacation airline will initially offer 14 new nonstop connections from Prague for holidaymakers and business travelers

  • The Czech Republic’s top favorites for the current autumn/winter season: Canary Islands and southern Spain

  • Eurowings the first airline to return to radio and television advertising in the Czech Republic

  • Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof: “We offer top quality products and services at affordable prices”

Eurowings has successfully started spreading its wings in Prague: shortly after flights were available for booking, Germany’s largest holiday airline already sold thousands of tickets in the Czech Republic to private and business travelers as well as local tour operators. Eurowings will open a new base of operations in the Czech capital at the end of October 2021 and initially offer 14 new nonstop flights from Prague. The first flights will take off on 31 October from Prague to Fuerteventura and Bristol (UK).

The Czech Republic’s top favorites for the current autumn and winter season are the Canary Islands and Southern Spain. The highest Eurowings bookings from Prague to date include Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Málaga. Connections to Athens (Greece), Barcelona (Spain) and Copenhagen (Denmark) are also very popular as people remain eager to travel.

Eurowings flights can be booked from €29.99 (764 CZK) with just a few clicks on the eurowings.com website or via the Eurowings app. A local Eurowings website will shortly be launched meaning all Eurowings flights will be available for booking in the Czech language soon.

“We are very pleased that our new offers have been so well received from day one. This boosts our confidence that we have exactly made the right choice with launching our operations from such a highly attractive city like Prague,” said Jens Bischof, CEO of Eurowings. “Eurowings will offer Czech customers top quality products and services at affordable prices to serve the existing pent-up demand for flights,” Bischof emphasized.

Innovative new services such as customers being able to choose a free middle seat (starting at €10/254 CZK) next to them have bolstered Eurowings’ top position among the European airlines. “Customers across Europe appreciate having a little more breathing room at their seat, whether for reasons of comfort or hygiene,” said Bischof. “The empty middle seat brings a feeling of business class even to back rows and has already been booked by Czech customers several hundred times just in the last few weeks.” Eurowings is the first airline to return to radio and television advertising in the Czech Republic since the start of the pandemic. The airline will invest more than 1 million Euros (25 mio. CZK) across several advertising channels to support its market launch in Prague.

The free middle seat, super-flexible rebooking options (up to 40 minutes before departure) and all the other customer benefits Eurowings is offering do not go unrecognized.  Just recently, the Lufthansa Group airline was awarded “Triple Gold” at the German Customer Awards: for best price-performance ratio, best customer service and highest customer satisfaction ratings.

New Ryanair Base At Venice Marco Polo Airport

airline news

October 14, 2021 – Ryanair, Europe and Italy’s No.1 airline, today (6th Oct) announced its newest Italian base in Venice Marco Polo with three new Boeing 737 8-200 “Gamechanger” based aircraft, representing an investment of $300m alongside the introduction of 18 new routes (24 total) significantly enhancing Venice’s domestic & international connectivity to 12 European countries from Summer 2022.

Ryanair’s new Venice Marco Polo base will deliver:

  • Three new 737 “Gamechanger” based aircraft ($300m investment)
  • 100 new direct jobs
  • 18 new routes
  • 24 routes in total (16 international / 8 domestic)
  • Over 160 departing flights per week

Ryanair’s new base at Venice Marco Polo represents our commitment to the Veneto region, where Ryanair has already opened a two aircraft base this year in Venice Treviso (operating 48 routes) and Verona Airport with today’s announcement of 2 new routes to Porto and Palma from Summer 2022. Today’s annocument further demonstrates Ryanair’s ability to rebuild the Veneto region’s tourism industry as we will now operate 86 routes from Summer 2022 at Venice Marco Polo, Venice Treviso and Verona.

With 24 routes to choose from at Venice Marco Polo, passengers can now book a well-deserved summer getaway, flying at the lowest fares to exciting destinations such as Barcelona, Gdańsk, Helsinki, Lisbon, and Stockholm. To celebrate the opening of its new Venice Marco Polo base, Ryanair has launched a seat sale with fares available from just €19.99, which must be booked by midnight Friday, 8th October, only on the Ryanair.com website.

Ryanair’s Director of Commercial, Jason McGuinness, said:

As Europe and Italy’s largest airline, we are delighted to open our newest Italian base at Venice Marco Polo with three new 737 “Gamechanger” aircraft, further strengthening the long-standing cooperation between Ryanair and the SAVE Group. Today’s announcement of 86 routes (20 new) for the Veneto region demonstrates Ryanair’s ability to rapidly rebuild Italian tourism.

As Ryanair takes delivery of 55 new B737 8-200 ‘Gamechanger’ aircraft this winter, we are delighted to announce that three of these will be based in Venice Marco Polo for Summer 2022, which represents a $300m investment in Venice Marco Polo Airport. These new aircraft will deliver a total of 24 destinations, including 18 new connections and 100 new jobs in an environmentally sustainable manner.

As consumer confidence returns, we call on the Italian Government to scrap the municipal tax for all Italian airports, which is damaging the competitiveness of Italian airports versus their European counterparts. The axing of this tax would facilitate a rapid recovery in Italian air traffic and jobs thanks to Ryanair’s low fares and long-term growth plan.

To celebrate our new Venice Marco Polo base, we are launching an unmissable seat sale, with prices starting from just €19.99 (available until midnight Friday, 8th Oct). A much-deserved getaway is only a click away, so to avoid disappointment, we advise customers to act fast and book directly on www.ryanair.com before these amazing low fares are snapped up!

Camillo Bozzolo, Commercial Director Aviation SAVE Group, said:

“The activation of Ryanair’s new base in Venice strengthens the carrier’s presence in our territory, accelerating the resumption of traffic started at the beginning of June with the opening of the Treviso base. For the SAVE Group, this represents confirmation of the centrality of the airports managed in the development strategies of the main carriers, which will speed up the recovery of pre-pandemic traffic volumes.

Thanks to the 3 aircraft that will be based at Marco Polo, the offer of outgoing destinations aimed at our catchment area will expand, thus connecting more and more niche destinations that will enrich the network of destinations served by the airport.”

Tourists in Romania preferred outdoor tours this Summer

airline news

blank

Figures from Romanian tourism website Romanian Friend show interesting changes in the way foreign tourists visiting Romania spent their holiday this Summer during the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite lower numbers, clear trends can be seen such as a surprising preference for tours in nature as well as a – predictable – reluctance to travel in larger groups.

Before Covid, foreign tourists were usually interested in visiting our country’s top attractions such as Bran (Dracula Castle, Peles and Corvin Castle, Sighisoara Citadel and Transfagarasan Highway. The Old Towns of Brasov, Sibiu and Bucharest for its nightlife were top – crowded – destinations.” says Marius Iliescu, tour guide and founder of Romanian Friend.

But now figures from the booking website for tours in Romania showed travellers from all over the world, particularly from Europe and the US, had a clear preference for trips in nature, outside major cities or crowded hotspots. Hiking tours in the Carpathian Mountains, multi-day trips to experience village life in the regions of Transylvania and Maramures and wildlife watching trips saw a significant increase. It seems tourists visiting Romania became weary of visiting ‘tight’ attractions and crowded places like they used to in the past.

Of a total of 9,673 tours booked by international tourists totalling 18,472 people (38% less than in 2019) for June – September, 61% were for tours in nature such as hiking compared to 39% in 2019 and 36% in 2018. We were anticipating this trend after the Coronavirus lockdowns, but weren’t expecting these kind of numbers. This shift was more noticeable with tourists from the UK, US and Belgium for example, but less so with those from Germany, Netherlands or the Nordic countries.”

Travel industry research show that international flights to European destinations in July and August reached only 40% of pre-pandemic levels. Changing travel or entry conditions likely contributed to low demand. Until 1 June, Romania was open for tourism only for European Union residents which discouraged overseas travellers from the US, Canada or Asian countries from making holiday plans months in advance like they used to. Luckily, vaccinated travellers and those unvaccinated coming from a yellow-list country but with a negative PCR test were not required to quarantine upon entering Romania.

The uncertainty regarding conditions of travel had a significant impact on the average number of days in advance tourists booked their tours. In 2019 the average was 18 days in advance, going as high as 20 for US tourists. In 2021 this number was down to only 6 days, with numerous tours booked 1-2 days in advance.

The combination of Covid safety rules, travel uncertainty, private tours and short notice bookings was a major challenge this season. “Despite our efforts to encourage advance bookings and having a very friendly cancelation policy of 1 day advance notice, most tourists were reluctant to commit until the very last minute. Besides the expected cancelation and rescheduling requests, we also had to decline a significant number of booking requests because all our guides were already booked. So lots of people who contacted us missed having the experiences they wanted on their holiday in Romania – which was very unfortunate for everyone.” adds Iliescu.

Another trend that emerged this year was that people preferred to travel in smaller groups. In 2019, 31% of all bookings were for groups of 4 or more (families, friends, etc.) while in 2021 this number was down to only 12%. People who knew each other no longer travelled together like they used to. The flipside of this was a 34% increase in solo travellers asking to join existing tours which created delicate situations. “Even if most of our clients informed us they’re vaccinated, they were weary of mixing with strangers and preferred private trips” adds the founder.

Despite all these challenges, the Romanian company was happy to see their eco-friendly and responsible tours getting a much needed boost after last year’s shock. ”Supporting local communities through an inclusive, vertical model of tourism has been our mission since we started in 2017. We’re happy to see one positive side-effect from this whole Covid situation especially small businesses were the hardest hit. And I think people also realized the beneficial impact spending time in nature has after being deprived of it. So we’re happy to help them discover Romania’s natural beauty – our country is known as Europe’s last wilderness reserve for good reason!” says the founder who is also a wellbeing and mindfulness coach.

A land of diverse landscapes and heroic history, Vietnam compels travelers with its beauty and charm. Thanks to its well-preserved heritage and ancestral beliefs, the country shines best and serves as a dream destination worth exploring. Phoenix Voyages offers a program for groups in the Ao Dai Museum, offering a scenic and pleasant encounter of the nation’s bountiful culture.

Opened in 2014, The Ao Dai Museum displays an elegant collection of over a hundred Ao Dai tunics, a symbol of Vietnamese culture, and the country’s national costume (Ao = dress, Dai = long). This tunic is still widely worn today by women at important events. The exhibition was put together by the famous Vietnamese fashion designer Si Hoang, perfectly honoring its value and heritage. The abundant greenery surrounding the museum contrasts the city’s dynamism, with beautiful gardens, a lotus pond, bamboo bridges, and traditional houses that complement its tranquil ambiance.

Inside the exhibition, visitors will admire the Ao Dai showcased in each historical period, from ancient to modern times. The oldest costume dates back to the 17th century. Worn by royal members, famous artists, and actresses, clients can immerse themselves in the stories surrounding these tunics and their owners.
The allure of this program is not just limited to its Ao Dai collection but also the beauty and serenity of the grounds. We plan team-building activities in the tranquil gardens around the pond. In addition, we can organize a lunch inside the gardens, with separate tables, arranged for a maximum of about 60 people.
The Ao Dai Museum is an ideal setting for a unique cultural MICE activity. It allows a discovery of the rich heritage of Vietnam in a peaceful atmosphere.
