Fly Arna: Armenia’s New National Airline, Backed By Air Arabia

airline news

blank

October 4, 2021 – Armenia is teaming up with Air Arabia to launch a new national airline. It has now been decided that the airline will be named “Fly Arna.” Further details, including the fleet, destinations, and timeline, will be announced “in due course.” Regardless, it sounds like all parties are serious about this concept.

If Armenia is going to launch an airline, this definitely seems like the way to go about it — the government can leverage Air Arabia’s expertise in launching a successful airline, rather than focusing on prestige and politics (though I’m sure that will find a way to seep in as well).

Disney World Is Celebrating Its 50th Anniversary

hotel news

News from around the world

blank

On Oct. 1, 1971, Walt Disney World Resort welcomed guests to “The Most Magical Place on Earth” for the first time; 50 years later, “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” commemorates the decades of memories and ushers in a future of continued excitement with a spectacular combination of Disney nostalgia and new, over-the-top experiences. For five decades, millions of guests have visited the theme park resort to ride iconic attractions, see their favourite characters, and feel that unparalleled Disney magic.

Disney is celebrating its anniversary with an 18-month-long event, which kicked off this week with the grand opening of new night time spectaculars, restaurants, and a “Ratatouille”-themed ride. At Epcot, a recently expanded France pavilion offers a new, family-friendly attraction, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and a tasty restaurant, La Crêperie de Paris. Also at Epcot, a new night time spectacular, “Harmonious,” celebrates the unifying power of Disney music and storytelling by highlighting beloved films that take place around the globe. The show uses fireworks, massive LED panels, choreographed fountains, and much more to breathe new life into the songs Disney fans know and love.

At Magic Kingdom Park, another incredible night time spectacular debuted on Oct. 1. “Disney Enchantment” takes guests on an inspiring and moving adventure featuring favourite stories through fireworks, music, lighting, and projections on Cinderella Castle and Main Street, U.S.A.. Over at Animal Kingdom, guests can find new daytime entertainment — “Disney KiteTails” — with flying windcatchers and kites depicting animals from Disney movies.

In all four theme parks, guests can spot the golden sculptures that make up the Disney Fab 50 Character Collection. And at night, each park’s icon transforms into a “Beacon of Magic,” illuminated in the “EARidescent” glow that’s shining on decorations, merchandise, Mickey and pals’ new celebratory outfits, and even food and beverage offerings during the event.
Speaking of food and beverage, there are plenty of delicious and delightful options across the resort, ranging from retro-inspired theme park classics to tasty new cocktails. At Magic Kingdom Park, guests can find treats influenced by 1970s attractions, like The Toad Burger inspired by Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, the Happy Haunts Milkshake inspired by the Haunted Mansion, and Squids Revenge inspired by 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Other 50th anniversary treats are also available across the theme parks, hotels, and Disney Springs. There’s even a new Magical Beacon Cocktail served at locations throughout Walt Disney World — the perfect drink to mark the occasion. Out-of-this-world Space 220 restaurant opened this month in Epcot, offering a stellar experience aboard the Centauri Space Station, and at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, guests can find the new Steakhouse 71 restaurant.

And there’s even more magic to come. Throughout the 50th anniversary celebration, guests can look forward to more exciting openings, including the highly-anticipated Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, set to open on March 1, 2022, and the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind indoor coaster, set to open at Epcot some point in 2022.

September 7, 2021 – Travellers from Kenya will now be allowed into the United Kingdom from next week after Britain revised its Covid-19 travel list in a fresh boost for tourism, which is currently in its peak season.

The UK moved Kenya from its Red List to Amber along with seven other countries –Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Oman, and Bangladesh.

Travellers arriving in the UK from countries on the Red List are denied entry while returning Britons must submit to 10 days of mandatory quarantine in hotels. UK nationals are barred from travelling to those countries.

Kenya was placed in the Red List in April following the spread of the highly contagious Covid-19 Delta variant in the country, dealing a blow to the tourism sector.

The revision, announced by British Transport Secretary Grant Shapps on Friday, offers a boost to the Kenyan hospitality

Most recently, flights to Tbilisi in Georgia as well as to Ekaterinburg and Krasnodar in Russia were added to the program in July. Since August, Eurowings has also been connecting Cologne/Bonn with Armenia’s capital Yerevan for the first time, and since September Düsseldorf with Kiev in Ukraine. More and more travellers are benefiting from direct connections to their home countries. In total, the Eurowings route network includes connections to more than 100 destinations in Europe.

Flights can be booked as of now via the Eurowings website or the Eurowings app from 119.99 euros. The prices apply to one-way connections.

Emirates and Qantas extend partnership to help boost international travel

airline news

blank

October 4, 2021 – Qantas and Emirates have announced they will extend their cornerstone partnership for another five years, meaning customers and frequent flyers of both airlines will have access to an expansive joint network, and millions of reward seats to travel across Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the UK.

The agreement was signed by Emirates President Tim Clark and Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce at the International Air Transport Association Annual General Meeting in Boston.

The airlines have existing approvals from regulators to operate a joint business until March 2023. Qantas and Emirates will seek re-authorisation from relevant regulators, including the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, to continue the core elements of the partnership including coordination of pricing, schedules, sales and tourism marketing on approved routes until 2028. The deal includes an option to renew for another five years beyond that.

Together, both airlines are making millions of reward seats available for frequent flyers to access more than 100 destinations to using their Qantas Points or Skywards Miles, which many have been stockpiling throughout the pandemic.

For Emirates customers, the deal provides access to over 55 Australian destinations that Emirates does not fly to, and Qantas customers are able to fly on Emirates to Dubai and access over 50 cities in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, that Qantas does not fly to.

As Qantas and Emirates recover from the impact that COVID-19 has had on their respective businesses, the partnership will continue to deliver financial upside for both airlines.

CEO Commentary

Sir Tim Clark, President Emirates Airline, said: “The extension of our partnership with Qantas is testament to its success. It also reflects our commitment to ensure customers travelling to and from Australia, a market which we have served for 25 years, continue to have the best connections and frequent flyer benefits. Despite the challenges of the past 18 months, today’s announcement reinforces that Emirates is here for the long-haul.

“Our partnership seamlessly connects travellers to over one hundred destinations globally on our joint network, and offers a coordinated premium experience such as access to points and lounges. As borders re-open, we look forward to restoring our Australian flight schedules including our popular A380 services, and to welcoming customers to experience our best-in-class partnership for many more years to come.”

Qantas Group CEO, Alan Joyce, said: “This marks the continuation of one of the most significant bilateral partnerships in aviation. We called it ‘seismic’ when it launched in 2013 and it has been, especially in terms of what it’s meant for over 13 million people who have travelled on flights that form part of the deal.

“The premise of our partnership with Emirates has always been that no airline can fly everywhere but combined we can fly to most of the places our joint customers want to travel to. And that we treat each other’s customers as our own.

“We know the international aviation market will take years to fully recover so close collaboration between airline partners is going to be more important than ever.”

This year, Emirates is celebrating 25 years of flying to Australia, transporting more than 39 million passengers between Australian cities, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, and other destinations via its Dubai hub since 1996. Emirates has continued to display its strong commitment to the Australian market increasing the size of its operations from three flights a week when it initially launched in 1996 in Melbourne, peaking to over 100 flights per week prior to the pandemic.

Benefits of Qantas and Emirates partnership

Since 2013, more than 13 million passengers have travelled on the joint network, travelling more than 87 billon kilometres.

On average more than 13,000 Emirates passengers have travelled on Qantas’ domestic and regional services within Australia each month.

Together, Qantas and Emirates provide customers with more than 100 codeshare destinations including:

  • 38 codeshare destinations in the UK and Europe, including Rome, Zurich and Barcelona
  • 55 codeshare destinations in Australia and New Zealand
  • 13 codeshare destinations in Africa and the Middle East
  • 2 codeshare destinations in Asia

Raffles Launches ‘Hybrid’ Hotel Model in Cambodia

hotel news

blank

October  1, 2021 –

Phnom Penh’s “Grande Dame” Raffles Hotel Le Royal has reopened its northern wing as an alternative state quarantine (ASQ) site for guests undertaking the mandated 14-day quarantine.

Among other significant changes, Café Monivong, in the hotel’s west wing, has now been replaced by Le Phnom 1929, an all-day dining venue inspired by the Parisian-style brasserie. It specializes in French and Western cuisine. Executive Chef Joel Wilkinson serves up French classics such as escargot, liver parfait, beef bourguignon, duck confit and onion soup, all paired with fine wines. Prime cuts of imported steaks, a melt-in-your-mouth beef or salmon tartare, and a seafood tower are also part of the menu. Comfort foods, Asian cuisine and vegetarian dishes are also on offer.

The menu at Le Phnom 1929 will be restricted to room service-only for ASQ guests, but the restaurant will be available to non-ASQ visitors who are to be hosted separately in the hotel’s Heritage Wing. Visitors arriving from abroad are offered a range of contactless in-room options at Raffles. The ASQ itinerary includes “virtual” classes for children, birthday parties, masterclasses such as cocktail-making, and family cinema evenings.

Raffles Hotel Le Royal’s Elephant Bar
Each room at Le Royal has a balcony overlooking tropical gardens and swimming pools. Visitors staying at the hotel as part of the ASQ program will be provided private airport transfers, a full-board dining experience, 24-hour medical services and PCR tests.

Good to know: The hotel underwent a one-year renovation in 2019; returning guests will notice brighter interiors, Segafredo coffee machines, USB charging stations, and Simmons pillow-top mattresses, among the new features. All bathrooms have been renovated with Italian tiling and rain showers, though some retain their claw-foot bathtubs. Bathroom amenities are now supplied by Sodashi, an Australian brand of high-performance skincare products.

The courtyard remains the centerpiece of the property, its two swimming pools surrounded by tropical gardens of frangipani, and shaded by giant century-old trees.

The grounds on which the hotel was built was an artisan colony where the classical Rinpa school of Japanese painting was founded around 400 years ago by Hon’ami Koetsu, a Japanese artist, calligrapher, poet, landscape designer and tea master, considered one of the most influential artists of the 17th century. Rinpa played a significant role in nurturing artists and craftsmen over the years. He had a strong influence on the development of traditional Japanese art and culture.

Paying homage to the Takagamine area’s history, which was also the source of water for washi papermaking, the hotel has been designed by the BLINK Design Group. The facets of traditional Japanese art are on display throughout the property—from exquisite lacquerware at the entrance, bamboo art pieces in the restaurant, ceramics artifacts in the spa, to karakami decorative paper in the guestrooms.

Peak Suite at ROKU KYOTO LXR Hotels & Resorts
The Peak Suite at Roku Kyoto (ROKU KYOTO LXR Hotels & Resorts)
Infusing traditional Kyoto design and modern Japanese aesthetic in earthy tones, the 114 guestrooms offer views of natural landscapes. The expansive Roku Suite offers views of the mountains along the Tenjin River, while the Takagamine mountains can be observed from the Peak Suite. While each of the Garden Deluxe rooms have a private onsen with a garden, the Poolside Deluxe rooms are located near the spa and provide direct access to the outdoor onsen thermal pool via a private terrace.

The Roku Spa offers a selection of therapies and treatments, including an original blend of aromatherapy oils infused with the essence of “Kitayama sugi,” a Japanese cedar tree native to the northern Kyoto area. Guests can relax in the hotel’s year-round natural onsen pool, work out in the 24-hour fitness center, or practice yoga or meditation on the lawn.

The French Restaurant Tenjin is named after the Tenjin river. Guests can tuck into dishes made from locally sourced seasonal ingredients. At the Chef’s Table within the restaurant, guests can witness the chefs at work as they present a seasonal course menu served with a special technique, inspired by the history and culture of the Rinpa school. At the bar, guests can sip on signature cocktails made with local ingredients or enjoy afternoon tea. Alternatively, guests can lounge at the “Engawa”, where they can listen to the sounds of the river by the indoor patio while enjoying the views.

The concierge team at the hotel will enable guests to experience the hidden treasures of Kyoto through various activities and services. Guests can opt for the Omuro 88 Temple Pilgrimage guided by a priest, create traditional ceramic art, learn “kintsugi”—the art of restoring pottery with gold, or try papermaking by hand with water sourced from the Tenjin River, as it had been done in the ninth century.

Qantas is happy to announce that international travel in Australia restarts ahead of schedule

airline news

blank

October 1, 2021 – Qantas will bring forward the restart of its international flights to 14 November 2021, following the Federal Government’s announcement that Australia’s borders will open in November.

The national carrier will operate three weekly return flights between Sydney and London and three weekly return flights between Sydney and Los Angeles with its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. These two destinations have been the most searched on qantas.com in recent weeks. More flights will be added to meet demand, if needed.

Fares are now on sale for Australian citizens, permanent residents and their immediate families and some visa holders. Fares start from $1662 return for Sydney-Los Angeles and $1869 return for Sydney-London.

All flights on both routes for the first week will be ‘Points Planes’, meaning frequent flyers can access uncapped Classic Flight Reward seats across all cabins. Seats on these flights will also be available as regular flight bookings.

Once the Federal Government announces the exact date that Australia’s international borders will reopen in November, the commencement dates for these two routes may need to be updated. Flights will be brought forward if its earlier than 14 November or moved to later in the month if necessary. Customers booked on these flights will have the flexibility to make ‘fee free’ date changes for travel until 31 December 2022 (a fare difference may apply). If flights are cancelled customers may also be eligible for a refund or credit voucher.

As previously indicated, all passengers on Qantas’ international flights will be required to be fully vaccinated with a TGA-approved or recognised vaccine (some exemptions for medical reasons and children). They will also be required to return a negative PCR COVID test 72 hours prior to departure.

Customers on these flights will be required to home quarantine for seven days on arrival into Australia, in accordance with the requirements from the Federal and New South Wales governments.

At this stage, all other international routes that  were scheduled to resume from 18 December 2021 will continue as planned, although the Group has the flexibility to add additional routes if other states and territories decide to open their borders earlier and reduce quarantine requirements to seven days at home, or less.

International flights remain subject to Government and Regulatory approval.

Qantas will continue to operate government-sponsored repatriation services as required, helping to bring Australians home from around the world, including home quarantine trial flights.

CEO COMMENTS

Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said: “The early reopening of Australia’s international borders will mean so much to so many people and it’s made possible by the amazing ramp up of the vaccine rollout.

“We know Australians can’t wait to travel overseas and be reunited with their loved ones, and literally thousands are waiting to come back home, so this faster restart is fantastic news. It also means we can get more of our people back to work, sooner.

“We welcome the Federal Government’s decision and the work by the New South Wales Government to facilitate the home quarantine approach that makes this feasible. We look forward to other States and Territories getting on board.

“We’d already sold out some of our international flights for December and seen strong demand on flights to and from London and Los Angeles, so we’re confident there will be a lot of interest in these earlier services.

“We know many frequent flyers have been stockpiling their points over the past 18 months to use on an overseas flight, so we’re making more seats available to be booked with points alone.

“Beyond the initial rush, the ongoing demand for international flights will hinge largely on what the quarantine requirements are. The shift to seven day home quarantine for fully vaccinated Australians with a negative test is a great step towards reducing this closer to what is becoming standard in many countries overseas, which is a test and release program.”

Emirates unveils latest Dubai Expo 2020 livery

airline news

blank

Emirates has revealed a head-turning A380 livery dedicated to carrying the messages of Dubai Expo 2020 worldwide.

A bold departure from the airline’s traditional white and gold paint scheme, the bright blue aircraft livery features large-scale graphics in vivid green, orange, pink, purple and red.

The scheme runs across the fuselage and all the way up to the tail and fin, interlaced with the distinct ring-shaped Expo 2020 Dubai logo.

Special ‘Dubai Expo’ and ‘Be Part of the Magic’ messages run across both sides of the fuselage.

The engine cowls also carry the Expo 2020 Dubai messages and dates of the event.

The Emirates red belly branding, which can be only seen when the aircraft is flying overhead, has been replaced by the opportunity-themed orange ‘Dubai Expo’ branding.

It is not just a decal, but a complete paint project, and is by far the largest the airline has ever embarked on.

The paint on A6EEU, the aircraft chosen for the livery, was completely stripped.

After that, eleven colours were applied on the aircraft in a careful, methodically sequenced manner.

A ‘wild spray method,’ electrostatic spray guns and conventional cup guns were used to put on the different colours, using over 2,500 sqm of tracing and masking material.

Decals were then applied on the engine cowls and, as well as the image of the Emirates cabin crew holding the message boards adjacent to the aircraft’s exits.

The process of painting the livery design and applying the decals took 16 days and 4,379 man-hours to complete.

airline news

Gulf Air has commenced a commercial service between Bahrain and Tel Aviv.

Flight GF972 took off from Bahrain International Airport at 10:40 on Thursday and arrived at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv later this same day.

The inaugural flight carried officials from Bahrain Tourism & Exhibitions Authority, the National Communications Centre and members of the executive management from the airline.

The flight is the start of two weekly services between Bahrain and Israel, deploying the newest Airbus fleet operated by the national carrier of Bahrain.

During an arrival event at Ben Gurion Airport, Gulf Air acting chief executive, Waleed Al Alawi, said: “Today we are making history by connecting the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Israel with scheduled commercial flights.

“The double weekly flights are just the start, and we will periodically assess the commercial performance to upgrade frequencies whenever feasible and required.”

Back in December, Gulf Air signed five commercial agreements with five different Israeli aviation-related companies.

These included a comprehensive memorandum for a potential joint codeshare and commercial cooperation with El Al, a general sales agent agreement with TAL Aviation and a line maintenance agreement with Israel Aerospace Industries, among others.

andBeyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge to open in 2022

andBeyond Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp in Tanzania is to undergo an extensive rebuild.

The property will emerge with a brand-new identity as andBeyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge.

“andBeyond Grumeti was originally built in the early 1990s,” explained Niall Anderson, andBeyond chief operating officer, Africa lodges.

“While it has since undergone two refurbishments, when the Grumeti River burst its banks and the lodge was flooded in April 2020, we decided that it was time for a comprehensive rebuild.”

With interior design by Fox Browne Creative and architectural design by Jack Alexander, the rebuild will utilise the existing footprint of the former structure to redefine the classical tented camp look in a form that will least impact the natural landscape.

“We feel that what has always set the lodge apart is its magnificent setting on a tributary of the Grumeti River,” added Anderson.

“Our brief to the design team was to create spaces that would bring guests even closer to these riverside views, connecting them to nature while ensuring a sense of understated luxury.”

Drawing inspiration from the natural setting, the main guest areas will form a single sweeping arc that will follow the contours of the river, creating a series of sitting and dining areas that will flow naturally together.

The design will provide shelter from the environment while retaining a wide open and natural feel.

More than doubled in size, the guest suites will feature raised ceilings and taller doors, allowing for an abundance of natural light.

Canvas, banana fibre and hardwood cladding will add a layer of richness and call to mind the design of the original camp.

Guest suites will now also feature deep baths and indoor showers, as well as extensive outdoor decks with private plunge pools.

A family suite, which features an additional attached bedroom, will also be added to the lodge offering.

All buildings will be constructed from lightweight steel frames clad in canvas and sustainably sourced local hardwood.

An extended selection of experiences is also being developed in time for the launch of the lodge, which will reopen on June 6th next year.

Nepal reopens all border points enabling foreigners to visit through land routes

blank

September 30, 2021 – The Nepali government has decided to reopen all the border crossings for the movement of Nepali and foreign nationals, as the South Asian country has been reporting fewer COVID-19 cases in recent days, a Nepali minister said Wednesday.

The move ended a months-long ban on foreigners visiting Nepal through land routes that was imposed after the second wave of the coronavirus hit the country in April.

Following the cabinet decision on Tuesday evening, “fully vaccinated foreigners can travel in Nepal after being tested negative for coronavirus either through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or antigen tests,” Nepal’s State Minister for Health and Population Umesh Shrestha told Xinhua.

The decision came at a time when new COVID-19 cases in Nepal have come down to less than 2,000 per day in recent days from a record high of 9,317 on May 11.

On Tuesday, the country logged 1,036 new infections and five deaths, taking the total cases to 786,577 and the death toll to 11,053.

Nepal has a total of 35 border crossings with India and two border points with China.

On June 21, Nepal’s Health Ministry imposed a blanket ban on foreign nationals visiting the country through land routes.

Shrestha said the decision to relax the cross-border movement of foreigners was taken to give a boost to the country’s tourism which has been hit hard amid the pandemic. “We can attract vaccinated Indian tourists through the land routes,” he said.

Indian nationals have been allowed into Nepal in the past days despite the blanket ban still in place.

“Due to cross-border family, social and cultural relations, we have been allowing Indian nationals to visit Nepal if they are fully vaccinated or they could produce PCR negative for coronavirus,” said Phanindramani Pokharel, spokesperson for Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs. Enditem

Colombia’s Post-Outbreak Tourism Strategy Focused on Six Cities

blank

Colombia’s national focus on environmental sustainability isn’t just a tourism strategy, it’s national policy. Now officials at ProColombia, the country’s destination marketing agency, are using that mandate as a roadmap to form tourism-rebuilding initiatives following the pandemic’s outbreak.

ProColombia is focusing promotional programs on six regions that showcase the country’s world-leading biodiversity and distinctive cultural attractions and experiences rooted in Colombia’s indigenous music, gastronomy, artistry and historic sites.

“We are committed to a new way of working with the country’s regions to position Colombia as ideal for international travellers by empowering new segments such as nautical, archaeological and community-based tourism,” said Flavia Santoro, president of ProColombia.

Travel to the destination is rebounding strongly following the outbreak, Santoro said, led by visitors from the U.S. Colombia has hosted 172,000 American visitors to date in 2021, a 16.6 percent increase over pandemic-stricken 2020.

“This makes the U.S. the only country with positive numbers of travelers to Colombia between 2020 and 2021,” said Santoro. “Colombia is well-connected to the U.S. and has already recovered more than 60 percent of the [airline] connectivity we had in February of 2020.”

Colombia reopened its borders to international flights on September 21, 2020, after launching a national pandemic recovery plan that includes “the implementation of biosafety parameters for travellers,” said Santoro.

Since last year, 13 new airline routes between Colombia and the United States have been announced, connecting U.S. cities including Miami, Newark, New York and Orlando with Bogota, Medellin, Cali and Cartagena, Colombia.

Safe Passage

Santoro said Colombia’s health and safety measures have enabled travellers to safely return to the country. She said 38 million vaccines have been applied in Colombia, whose population totals 50.4 million residents. “The country has made it easy for travellers to enter Colombia,” Santoro said.

Indeed, Colombia’s entry process is relatively simple. Visitors are not required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result to enter the country. Travelers who experience coronavirus symptoms during or 14 days after their inbound flight are required to report it to the local health authorities and isolate immediately.

Special Six

In terms of tourism promotion, Santoro said ProColombia is focusing on six regions of the country. “We are concentrating on attracting tourism that benefits not only travellers, but travel companies, the environment and the community,” Santoro said.

The Greater Colombian Caribbean, described by officials as the land of Nobel Prize-winning Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez, features rainforests, snow-capped peaks and desert dunes, and is home to cities including Cartagena, Santa Marta, Barranquilla and San Andres Island.

The Western Andes region is highlighted by Colombia’s coffee route and features mountains, exotic birds and flower-covered valleys in cities including Medellin and Pereira. Described as the centre of Colombia’s colonial past and its struggle for liberation, the eastern Andes region is distinguished by soaring mountains and expansive national parks in Bogota, Villa de Leyva and Bucaramanga.

“We are concentrating on attracting tourism that benefits not only travellers, but travel companies, the environment and the community.” – Flavia Santoro, president of Pro Colombia. (Photo by Brian Major)

Colombia’s Massif region encompasses paramos, volcanoes and the country’s largest rivers, with accessible evidence of ancient Colombian civilizations in archaeological parks and indigenous communities in the Popayan and Pasto regions. The Colombian Amazon is an immense centre of biodiverse rainforests and white water rapids.

Described by officials as Colombia’s “best-kept secret,” the country’s Pacific coast features rainforests leading to the ocean where visitors can view humpback whales and sea turtles. The region has a distinctive African heritage maintained by the present-day residents of Cali, Nuquí and on Gorgona Island.

The natural and cultural attractions combine with practical advantages, Santoro said. “Colombia is the most biodiverse country per square meter in the world according to the United Nations,” she said. “We also have connectivity, accessibility, a favourable exchange rate and a culture of service.”
