Emirates airlines to operate extra flights for upcoming Hajj season

June 23, 2022 –

With the significant demand for air travel during Hajj, Emirates is deploying extra flights to ensure more connectivity for the scores of pilgrims making their way to the Holy City of Makkah. Emirates will be operating special flights to Jeddah and Medina during the upcoming Hajj season to carry pilgrims for this special period.

Emirates airlines

Emirates will be deploying 31 additional flights to Jeddah and double daily flights to Medina from 23 June to 20 July to help transport pilgrims to carry out one of the key pillars of Islam. These services will run in parallel with Emirates’ regularly scheduled services.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has greatly expanded its Hajj participation this year to nearly a million pilgrims. This year, Emirates has seen strong demand for Hajj travel from Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Turkey, Egypt, Ethiopia, Malaysia, the UK, US, UAE and Algeria.

The special services are available to travellers holding a valid Hajj visa. Pilgrims must also be under the age of 65, hold a valid vaccination certificate with a vaccine authorised by the Saudi Ministry of Health, and must also carry a negative PCR test done within 72 hours of departure.

Given the significance of the once-in-a-lifetime Hajj experience, the airline’s teams have been working hard to ensure that every detail of the pilgrim’s experience is aligned with the tenets of their faith.

From the moment pilgrims step onto the aircraft, a range of initiatives have been planned in keeping with the values and traditions of the Hajj journey.

Extra provisions to accommodate Hajj traveller needs such as ablution cleansing rituals, unperfumed towels, advising passengers while en route to Jeddah about when they have entered Al Miqat zones (state of sanctity) and changing of Ihram robes through special PAs, and other arrangements have been planned to ease their journey and ready them for the rest of their pilgrimage. Emirates’ award winning ice system will also feature a special Hajj video that covers safety, general formalities and information about performing the Hajj pilgrimage. Pilgrims will also be able to tune into the Holy Quran channel, in addition to other religious content.

On flights from Jeddah, passengers can check-in up to 5 litres of holy water (Zamzam), which will be placed in special areas in the cargo hold.

Direct flight Washington DC and Cape Town -3 weekly flights by United proposed

Direct flight Washington DC and Cape Town

Direct flight Washington DC and Cape Town

May 27, 2022 -Proposed nonstop flights from Washington Dulles to Cape Town will create a long-overdue, direct route supporting critical diplomatic and thriving economic ties between the legislative capitals

Washington D.C. to Cape Town is the most in-demand route between the U.S. and South Africa without nonstop service

Direct flight Washington DC and Cape Town

United Airlines announced today it has filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for three weekly nonstop flights between Washington, D.C. and Cape Town, South Africa. If approved, United’s flights will become the first nonstop service ever between Washington D.C. and South Africa’s legislative capital, Cape Town. This long-overdue route will benefit important government-to-government connections and increase communication and commerce with a region that has strong cultural ties to South Africa.

United’s Direct flight Washington DC and Cape Town would begin Nov. 17, 2022, and operate on 787-9 aircraft, maximized to meet consumer demand and benefit both U.S. and South African travelers. If approved, the flights between Dulles and Cape Town will connect 55 cities across the United States to Cape Town, representing more than 90 percent of the entire U.S. travel demand to Cape Town. United’s Washington Dulles hub is a gateway to the nation’s capital and elsewhere, operating more than 230 daily flights to nearly 100 destinations around the world – including more than 10 world capitals and new service to Accra, Ghana and Lagos, Nigeria.

“From creating new jobs, to supporting key civic and aid organizations, United has taken tremendous pride in growing our family and operations in South Africa, and across the African continent,” said Patrick Quayle, United’s Senior Vice President of International Network and Alliances. “If awarded by the DOT, this historic nonstop service will significantly enhance travel options for consumers, strengthen ties between our countries legislative and diplomatic epicenters, and benefit thriving travel and tourism industries serving our respective countries.”

United has worked diligently to develop an African network to promote competition and provide affordable and consistent service options for U.S. travelers. The service will supplement United’s existing flights to four cities in three countries in Africa. It will also allow customers to connect in Cape Town to other points in South Africa, and to other countries in the southern region of the African continent with its South African based partner Airlink and their Cape Town hub.

The Washington D.C. to Cape Town route is the largest between the U.S. and South Africa without nonstop service. D.C. is the second largest point in the U.S. for Cape Town demand and holds the fifth largest South-African-born population. United’s proposed weekly flights will address this gap and complement United’s existing South Africa service between New York/Newark and Cape Town and Johannesburg, providing nearly daily service to Cape Town offered by a single carrier.

United also maintains a close relationship with the Mandela Foundation and BPESA (Business Processing Enabling South Africa) a not-for-profit company that serves as the industry body and trade association for Global Business Services in South Africa. United recently announced a collaboration with travel company Certified Africa. Certified Africa’s mission is to make travel to African countries easy, immersive, and life changing for millions of the African Diaspora across the United States.

KLM adds 16 new destinations in India

May 17, 2022 -KLM and IndiGo, India’s leading airline, have signed a codeshare agreement that enables customers to book KLM tickets to 16 new destinations in India. The agreement allows IndiGo customers to book tickets to European and US destinations within the KLM network.

KLM adds 16 new destinations in India:
The new agreement between KLM and IndiGo provides customers immediate access to the airlines’ respective networks. This constitutes a major expansion for KLM in India. KLM currently operates daily service to Delhi and five weekly flights to Mumbai. From 23 May, it will operate three weekly flights to Bangalore.

The new codeshare agreement ensures that these flights seamlessly connect with IndiGo’s extensive network in India, including cities such as Hyderabad, Jaipur, Goa and Chennai, ensuring the passengers have access to key business centres as well as popular holiday destinations.

Pieter Elbers, president & CEO KLM: “We’re very pleased with this new agreement with IndiGo. Now that the world is reopening, our partnership with IndiGo will allow us to offer customers more business and leisure destinations in the booming and thriving Indian market.

Thanks to these partner networks, we offer an increasing range of connections with the world. This agreement is an important step forward for both airlines on the way to further recovery. IndiGo is a successful airline with a modern fleet and, just like KLM, it has won many customer satisfaction awards.”

The new agreement with IndiGo offers passengers all sorts of opportunities to explore the diverse natural and culture wonders of India. With its expansive network in the United States, KLM offers a wider array of flight options to many people in India wishing to travel to the US, and vice versa.

IndiGo is amongst the fastest growing low-cost carriers in the world. IndiGo has a simple philosophy: offer fares that are affordable, flights that are on time, offering a courteous, hygienic, and hassle-free travel experience. With its fleet of 275+ aircraft, the airline is operating over 1,000 daily flights and connecting 70 domestic destinations and 24 international destinations.
