The coolest House of Gucci film locations – The first pictures released from Ridley Scott’s latest project, House of Gucci starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver, give a glimpse of glamour, style – and wonderful locations to inspire your next ski trip

The coolest House of Gucci film locations

Lady Gaga shines in the Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci, telling the story of the 1995 murder of fashion scion Maurizio Gucci. So where are these cool film places and can we visit them.

During filming in the Italian Alps, Adam Driver as Gucci and Lady Gaga as the ‘Black Widow’ Patrizia Reggiani were photographed sporting an Eighties après-glam style that might just become the inspiration for post-pandemic skiing in the new Roaring Twenties.

As well as turtlenecks, furry hats and excessive gold jewellery (Gaga was also snapped in a red leather catsuit – see below), we wonder if fondues and Gitanes might be on the way back too. It also got us thinking about where we’ll be going. Here we check out one destination that we know at least some of the film is being shot in, and, in honour of Gucci himself, round-up the four other coolest destinations in the Italian Alps, from the Aosta Valley in the west to the Dolomites in the east.

1) The coolest House of Gucci film locations

Gressoney-Saint-Jean

This pretty village in the Aosta Valley is standing in for St Moritz in the film, where Gucci and Reggiani had a chalet. Like neighbouring Gressoney-La-Trinité, Gressoney-Saint-Jean has barely been troubled by the passage of time – making it ideal for nostalgic post-lockdown skiing. Hotels along the valley, including Lo Scoiattolo and Nordend, tend to be snug chalet-style affairs, heavy on wood, stucco and soft furnishings. From nearby Staffal, the lift pass offers access to the vast and underappreciated Monterosa ski area, which is known across Europe for its heli-skiing and vast off-piste. Lingering red runs cross three dreamy valleys to resorts such as powderhound-favourite Alagna and charming Champoluc, where eco-adventure CampZero represents a new kind of alpine stay around these parts.

2) The coolest House of Gucci film locations

Cortina d’Ampezzo

Gucci and Reggiani, who was also known as ‘the Liz Taylor of luxury labels’, surely frequented Cortina d’Ampezzo, the most chi-chi of the Italian resorts and a favourite of Taylor herself. There may be a few more Russian and Milanese influencers these days, but Cortina still has some of the most fabulous fur-clad people-watching in the Alps – ideally over a beluga lentil and scallop stew on the terrace of El Camineto restaurant, before retreating to the extravagantly domed spa of the Cristallo hotel, crisply renovated since the era when Klaus Kinski and Brigitte Bardot frequented the Monkey bar. Just out of town, the four-table Aga was a pioneer in the local zero-mile foraging movement when it was opened in 2015 by Noma alum Oliver Piras and his wife Alessandra Del Favero.

3) 1) The coolest House of Gucci film locations

Alta Badia

It’s barely an hour down the road from Cortina to Alta Badia, a valley of six villages that share an ancient Ladin language and culture based around subsistence farming. These days, that translates into unfussy but seriously good locavore food along the valley – from agriturismos such as the 200-year-old Maso Runch to St Hubertus, with three Michelin stars for its cook-the-mountain philosophy. While hotels lean towards woodsy-rustic – like the Kolfuschgerhof in little Colfosco – newer stays have been mixing things up in recent years, including the Adler Lodge eco-retreat, with its onsen-like thermal baths. There’s serious off-piste skiing along the valley, and access to the Dolomiti Superski area with about 745 miles of pistes running to Cortina and beyond.

4) The coolest House of Gucci film locations Merano

Gorgeous, craggy South Tyrol is both homely and forward-thinking – a Germanic area with an ancient tradition of nature-gazing and buying local, powered largely by renewable energy. The best place to get a sense of it is the Merano basin, known for its geothermal spa resorts even in the days when Ezra Pound and Franz Kafka would come to take the crisp air. Most spectacular is the Miramonti Boutique Hotel, south of the Merano 2000 ski resort, all angular timber and faintly steaming infinity pools overlooking an epic mountainscape. To the south, the delightful village of Lana is home to two beautiful mod-rustic stays: the eight-room 1477 Reichhalter, with its buzzing bar in a renovated Tyrolean inn, and Villa Arnica, an elegant 10-bedroom mansion with a citrus-sharp pool in a lush garden.

5) The coolest House of Gucci film locations Courmayeur

On the Italian side of Mont Blanc, Courmayeur has some of the best off-piste skiing and climbing in Italy, and quieter pistes than the more illustrious Chamonix at the other end of a long mountain tunnel. There’s a quietly buzzy après-ski scene here, starting with aperitivo hour at Bar Roma, and food’s taken seriously, especially on the mountain at spots such as the cosy Rifugio Maison Vieille shepherd’s hut and Chiecco, known for its wild-boar ragu. Hotels run from smart, timber-clad Le Massif to the more simple Auberge de La Maison on the edge of town, while the futuristic Skyway Monte Bianco – the world’s most expensive cable-car project – whizzes up to the Mont Blanc massif, with links to Chamonix’s famous Aiguille du Midi station.

Travel gossip – The royal treatment – A king who flies excited soccer supporters!

King flies football supporters  – Willem-Alexander flies fans from Feyenoord to Prague. The Feyenoord fans in the midday flight to Prague looked surprised when they saw their co-pilot.

The Royal Treatment

Feyenoord fans on the 12:15 p.m. flight to Prague looked surprised when they saw their co-pilot. None other than King Willem-Alexander personally flew the Rotterdammers to the Czech capital.

One Feyenoord supporter managed to snap a pic of the King behind the “wheel” of the KLM plane. “I honestly think he’s for Feyenoord now,” the supporter said to Rijnmond Sport. The King is a known’ Ajax supporter. “But his wife, Queen Maxima, is for Feyenoord. That compensates a bit,” the supporter said. “Isn’t this beautiful? I think it’s really fun! We’re going to make this a great party.”

I honestly think he is now for Feyenoord,” a supporter told RTV Rijnmond, who managed to take a picture of the swinging king in the cockpit. “I couldn’t get very close, because a security guard stopped me.”

King Willem-Alexander is known as an Ajax fan and he couldn’t resist making some jokes about the intercom. “Yes, that’s nice, I think it’s funny,” said the supporter. At Schiphol, the travelers had no idea that they were on a unique flight.

Who else gets the royal treatment? The King is extremely interested in flying. In 1985 he obtained his Private Pilot’s Licence (Second Class), followed by his Commercial Pilot’s Licence (with an Instrument Rating) in 1987.

November 23, 2021- Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment on AirBNB.  I wonder if Mr Big will make an appearance?

Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment on AirBNB

In celebration of the upcoming release of the HBO Max Original And Just Like That…, the highly-anticipated new chapter of Sex and the City, the award-winning actress and producer is opening the doors to Carrie Bradshaw’s New York City brownstone, in partnership with Airbnb and Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

  • Hopeless romantics can sip Cosmopolitans, type pensively at their laptop and chat with friends on a circa-2000 cordless phone at Carrie’s Upper East Side apartment.
  • For the first time ever, guests will enjoy unique access to the style icon’s closet (tutu, too!), alongside fab and friendship-centric experiences like brunch in Chelsea and a fashion-focused photoshoot.

It’s been 20+ years since unlucky-in-love advice columnist Carrie Bradshaw stepped into our lives – in stilettos, no less – on Sex and the City. As anticipation builds to revisit the beloved character in her newest chapter, And Just Like That…, Sarah Jessica Parker is adding Airbnb Host to her repertoire and offering fans a once-in-a-lifetime stay at Carrie’s apartment – lust-worthy closet included.

Sarah Jessica Parker will host two, one-night stays for up to two guests each at a recreation of Carrie’s brownstone on November 12 and 13 for only $23* a night, in honor of the 23 years since we were first introduced to the fashion-forward icon and her friends.

“The Carrie Bradshaw character is near and dear to my heart, and revisiting her world for the continuation of the Sex and the City story has been such a joy,” said Parker. “I’m excited for our audience to experience Carrie’s New York like never before and walk in her shoes, quite literally, for the first time.“

A stay at Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment –

So we couldn’t help but wonder…what would a night at Carrie’s look like? During their stays, guests will be immersed in a quintessentially Carrie experience with:

  • A virtual greeting at check-in from Sarah Jessica Parker herself, and a narration reminiscent of each episode’s thought-provoking intro.
  • The opportunity to descend the steps of her brownstone and stroll the streets of Manhattan (splash from a city bus not included).
  • Cosmopolitans for a toast.
  • The chance to admire and play dress-up in Carrie’s iconic closet, complete with her favorite looks (like the Patricia Field tutu she wears in the opening credits), designers, and of course, shoes!
  • A styling session and photoshoot where guests can channel their inner fashionistas.

To celebrate Carrie’s return to television screens, Airbnb will make a one-time donation to The Studio Museum in Harlem, a contemporary art museum championing the work of artists of African descent.

Salt Bae – Gold Plated Steak anyone?

blank

blank

Just opened in London – Salt Bae is a chef artist and has a very unusual way of salting and covering his steaks with gold.

Salt Bae – Gold Plated Steak

The price of such a steak rises above 1000 euros, but imagine your pictures on Instagram.  Apparently, Salt Bae even feeds you if so desired!

All in all, a surreal experience and critics don’t know what to make of it.

More about Salt Bae

Gökçe became famous from a series of viral Internet videos and memes. His fame came from a viral video, “Ottoman Steak”, posted on 7 January 2017.

The video shows him cutting meat and sprinkling salt on it in a “suavely” way.

The video of him lovingly preparing an Ottoman steak, posted on January 7, 2017, has to date garnered more than 16 million views.

His strangely sensual meat videos soon evolved into a series of viral memes, with viewers taking particular delight in the flamboyant way Nusret sprinkled a handful of salt crystals at the end of the clip.

His beginnings:

He started working as an apprentice in Turkish steakhouses aged only 12.

In his twenties, Gökçe picked up sticks to go to Buenos Aires, to learn more about their beef and the art of butchery.

The more he learnt about steak, the more his dream to open a restaurant intensified – and he did exactly that.

He opened his first Nusr-Et steakhouse in Istanbul in 2010.

The brand grew, and he opened restaurants across the Middle East, including in Ankara, Doha and Dubai.

It was then that Gökçe shot to viral internet fame – and it allowed him to open a total of 13 restaurants within the year, expanding into America and Greece.

In September of 2021 he opened a restaurant in London and now has his sights set on Saudi Arabia.

A Prada in the desert?!

blank

blank

Prada in the desert?

It has become a cult destination – and even Beyonce and The Simpsons are fascinated!
In the middle of the West Texas desert you find this fully stocked Prada store.

Prada! In the middle of nowhere?’ So remarks Marge Simpson in an episode of The Simpsons that made a real-life but fake Prada store in Texas even more irresistible as a photo-op pitstop, following a serious boost in its allure by Beyonce, who posted a picture of herself jumping in front of it to Instagram.

The creativity of Scandinavian duo Elmgreen & Dragset gave life in 2005 to the Prada Marfa permanent artistic installation located in the middle of the Chihuahua desert, 37 miles from Marfa.

A faux store built following Prada’s boutiques aesthetic codes and provocatively conceived to naturally deteriorate with time without undergoing any external repair or restoration.

The bizarre ‘Prada store’ sits by the road in the middle of the West Texas desert and contains genuine items from the 2005 Prada collection, including 20 pairs of heels and six handbags. But you can’t buy them.

The store – called Prada Marfa after the nearby town of Marfa in the Chihuahuan desert (although it’s technically in Valentine) – is actually a permanent art installation, built in 2005 by Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset, two Scandinavian artists based in Berlin.

The Art Production Fund (APF) and Ballroom Marfa, a centre of contemporary art and culture, helped finance the project, while head designer of Prada, Miuccia Prada, handpicked the merchandise for the store’s interior.

She also gave permission to Elmgreen and Dragset to use the Prada logo.

It was originally built as a protest against the high-priced commercialism that was gentrifying U.S. cities in the 1990s. The artwork was to disappear over time and erode into the landscape before anyone could even notice it.

However, rather than fading away, the fake Prada store has been a runaway success.

Beyonce posted her Instagram picture in 2014, with no comment.

So far, it’s had over 500,000 likes.

Prada Marfa’s Simpsons cameo came in 2019, with Homer relieving himself around the back of the building after Marge’s exclamation, claiming ‘it’s on the side of the road, so by definition it is a bathroom’.

The months will be January, February, June, July, August and September, but might be extended.
