Are Millennials going to change the face of travel?

Are Millennials going to change the face of travel?

Are Millennials going to change the face of travel?

The Trend Forecast is an insight into the 10.2 million Australian travellers who engage with News Corp Australia’s brands every month.

The Forecast revealed that 87 per cent of Millennials are confident in international travel and more likely to be planning a round-the-world trip.

News Corp Australia’s managing director, food and travel Fiona Nilsson said: “The News Travel Network Trend Forecast delivers a consistent consumer survey that illustrates changes in travel over time and clearly identifies what is improving and importantly, where effort is needed to create action.”

“Our latest study reveals that Australian travellers intending to take a trip interstate remains consistent but intent to travel intrastate has been steadily falling since last year. Intent to travel internationally is growing once again, with just under 20 per cent indicating it will be the next holiday,” Nilsson said.

It also found that Millennials and Gen Z value agent expertise for certain needs as they are more likely to rely on a travel agent for budgeting, insurance and entertainment plans. The lowest price is on the agenda, but peace of mind still trumps it for now with over 50 per cent of Aussies willing to pay more to ensure a safe and fun trip.

Short-term international travel is rising quickly, with one to two weeks now the most popular length of time to travel for those planning on heading overseas.

“We are seeing that 78 per cent of travellers are now confident in international travel. While New Zealand remains firmly in the top spot for intent, the impact of that confidence is shifting intent from our neighbouring destinations toward long haul destinations, with Europe and the US moving up the rankings,” Nilsson said.

Some other key travel consumer trends that were identified included:

  • Dollars and Sense – Good value and lowest price are the core factors of importance for Australians booking their next trip, but that doesn’t mean they are willing to scrimp when it comes to safety and security. Travel providers should clearly demonstrate the value of their offers to attract interest from the majority of travel-intending Aussies. With over half of them willing to pay more for ease and safety, providing these options can drive preference and margin.
  • Good Thrill Hunting – Now that travel has become easier, Australians are ready to celebrate. Young travellers are the keenest, planning on holidaying longer and spending more than they usually would on travelling for extended periods of time. With many Australian travel intenders planning to “go all out”, the value of experts and great service is in high demand. That means a significant opportunity to build loyalty, particularly with younger travel segments.
  • Make It Meaningful – More than ever, Aussies are looking for purpose when they travel. This can manifest in different ways, but it’s ultimately about having a defining experience, not just a holiday. Humanitarian holidaying is growing, with inclusivity and sustainable practices becoming core booking factors for both Millennials and Gen Z. Immersion in local culture has superseded ticking destinations off a list, with over a quarter of travellers looking to spend time in just one place and in need of local expertise.
  • Young, Free & Keen To Mingle– Gen Z are more likely than any other generation to be looking for relaxation, self-care retreats and healing sabbatical style holidays. They prefer to travel in groups and are far less concerned about value. Instead, it’s about a trip where they can easily all go out, challenge themselves, and give back to smaller communities. Gen Z are also much more likely to turn to travel influencers, online friends and viral video for travel content, reviews and suggestions meaning that leveraging social platforms is crucial to reach this high-value segment.

10 places around the globe named after Queen Elizabeth II

10 places around the globe named after Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth Land

About 437 000 square kilometres of British Antarctic Territory was named after the monarch to mark her diamond jubilee in 2012.

The triangular segment is nearly twice the size of Britain and stretches from the South Pole to the Ronne Ice Shelf on the Weddell Sea.

Princess Elizabeth Land

Seven decades earlier in 1931, this slice of Antarctica was discovered by the British, Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition and named after the young Elizabeth, who was third in line to the throne.

Roughly covering the section south of India, it is now part of Australian Antarctic Territory.

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London

The former wasteland in east London that staged the 2012 Olympics was renamed after the queen to mark the diamond jubilee celebrating 60 years on the throne.

Queen Elizabeth memorably opened the Olympics with a sequence that appeared to show her parachuting down to the stadium with James Bond.

Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda

Straddling the equator, the east African country’s most visited national park is known for its lions, hippos, elephants, crocodiles and leopards, along with volcanic cones and crater lakes.

The 1 978-square-kilometre park was renamed after a visit by the monarch in 1954.

The Queen Elizabeth II September 11th Garden, New York

The tiny park in Hanover Square was created to remember the 67 British victims of the 2001 terror attacks in the city but was renamed in 2012 when it was rededicated as the memorial site for all the Commonwealth victims.

The monarch officially opened the garden in Lower Manhattan in 2010.

Queen Elizabeth Islands, Canada

The Parry Archipelago was renamed in 1953 to mark the coronation. The northernmost cluster of Canada’s islands include Ellesmere Island, the world’s 10th biggest.

Despite their vast size at 419 061 square kilometres, the Arctic islands have a population of just 400. At the top of Ellesmere sits Alert, the northernmost settlement in the world.

The Queen’s Terminal, London Heathrow Airport

The new £2.5-billion Heathrow Terminal 2 was officially opened by the monarch in 2014. Around a quarter of Heathrow’s passengers fly through T2.

The sovereign never actually used the terminal; there is a plush VIP terminal used by heads of state elsewhere in the airport.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Hong Kong

Once the largest general hospital in the Commonwealth, the facility in Kowloon opened in 1963 when Hong Kong was still a British colony. The monarch’s husband, Prince Philip, laid the foundation stone.

Hong Kong’s biggest hospital is the prime treatment centre for civil disasters and helicopter-transferred patients.

Queenstown, Singapore

Queenstown was the first new town built on the city-state island to cope with its booming population and was named to mark the 1953 coronation.

Around 100 000 people live in the 20-square-kilometre area. Developed as a self-contained community, it houses largely older, original residents in high- and low-rise blocks.

Elizabeth Quay, Perth

Intended to showcase the Western Australia capital on an international stage, the new area contains a mixture of luxury hotels, apartments, office blocks and restaurants.

The man-made Swan River inlet officially opened in 2016. The new entertainment and leisure precinct was billed as “the place to be, see and do” in Perth.

‘Spanish Stonehenge’ emerges from drought-hit dam

‘Spanish Stonehenge’ emerges from drought-hit dam

‘Spanish Stonehenge’ emerges from drought-hit dam

Caceres, Spain – A brutal summer has caused havoc for many in rural Spain, but one unexpected side effect of the country’s worst drought in decades has delighted archaeologists – the emergence of a prehistoric stone circle in a dam whose waterline has receded.

Officially known as the Dolmen of Guadalperal but dubbed the “Spanish Stonehenge”, the circle of dozens of megalithic stones is believed to date back to 5000 BC.

It currently sits fully exposed in one corner of the Valdecanas reservoir, in the central province of Caceres, where authorities say the water level has dropped to 28% of capacity.

“It’s a surprise, it’s a rare opportunity to be able to access it,” said archaeologist Enrique Cedillo from Madrid’s Complutense University, one of the experts racing to study the circle before it gets submerged again.

It was discovered by German archaeologist Hugo Obermaier in 1926, but the area was flooded in 1963 in a rural development project under Francisco Franco’s dictatorship.

Since then it has only become fully visible four times.

Dolmens are vertically arranged stones usually supporting a flat boulder. Although there are many scattered across Western Europe, little is known about who erected them. Human remains found in or near many have led to an often-cited theory that they are tombs.

Local historical and tourism associations have advocated moving the Guadalperal stones to a museum or elsewhere on dry land.

Their presence is also good news for Ruben Argentas, who owns a small boat tours business. “The dolmen emerges and the dolmen tourism begins,” he told Reuters after a busy day spent shuttling tourists to the site and back.

But there is no silver lining for local farmers.

“There hasn’t been enough rain since the spring… There is no water for the livestock and we have to transport it in,” said Jose Manuel Comendador. Another, Rufino Guinea, said his sweet pepper crop had been ravaged.

Climate change has left the Iberian peninsula at its driest in 1 200 years, and winter rains are expected to diminish further, a study published by the “Nature Geoscience” journal showed.

Video of low landing Wizz Air at Skiathos Airport, Greece, goes viral

A video of a Wizz Air Airbus A321neo (registered HA-LZT) landing at Skiathos Airport in Greece is currently going viral on social media. The footage, captured on 5 August, shows the A321neo landing from flight W68447 from Naples, Italy.

Wizz Air’s low landing

Tourists and plane spotters are surprised to see the aircraft approaching the runway barely passing the perimeter fence. The jet blast is blowing away sand and dust, and a sun hat.

Surprisingly, the local authorities don’t seem to do much to prevent access to the dangerous area. Back in June, an elderly man was blown into the sea due to the jet blast of a departing aircraft and in July, a British woman suffered brain injuries after she was knocked onto the ground by another aircraft that was taking off.

A YouTube channel by the name “GreatFlyer” posted a video of the aircraft landing. The video starts with the flight coming in towards the island. The camera then zooms and shows the boats sailing in the sea to show how low the flight is. As it approaches land, the flight’s altitude sees a continuous sharp decline and finally skims right above the onlookers’ heads before touching down the runway.

Plane spotting is a nice hobby, but keep it safe…

World cruise for 2025

For the fourth year running, a world cruise by Regent Seven Seas Cruises has sold out in record time, with the sailing being completely reserved prior to officially opening for bookings on June 15, 2022.

It underscores how for some the cost of living crisis is something that is happening to other people.

6 undiscovered rooftop bars in London

Head upwards to see a London few other visitors get to enjoy – that’s the advice that Blue Badge-qualified tour guide Paul Metcalfe gives his guests.

‘There are now dozens of rooftop bars and restaurants in London, each with a different atmosphere and each with views even locals don’t know about,’ he says.

Head upwards to see a London few other visitors get to enjoy at the city’s rooftop bars. One option is The Rooftop bar at The Standard hotel (pictured) – it’s positioned by St Pancras and King’s Cross stations so it makes a great first or last pit stop if you’re visiting London by train

6 undiscovered rooftop bars in London:

A top tip is Radio Rooftop Bar, perched on the tenth floor of the ME hotel on the edge of Covent Garden in the West End.

The ‘big four’ sights of St Paul’s Cathedral, the Shard, the London Eye and Big Ben are all in view from the terrace. Non residents can book tables for everything from eggs benedict at breakfast to champagne cocktails at night. DJs play chill-out sets as the sun goes down (radiorooftop.com).

Even closer to the heart of town is Hotel Indigo on Leicester Square. Up on the ninth floor there’s a sleek bar and dining room plus a wrap-around terrace with tables looking down on the bustle below. Service begins with mid-morning brunch and runs through to candlelit, post-theatre dinner (lsqrooftop.com).

A livelier rooftop experience is on offer just south of the River Thames and National Theatre near Waterloo. Up to 600 guests can squeeze on to the huge terrace of Bar Elba where colourful awnings and strings of fairy-lights make nights seem magical.

Marble Arch Mound closed after 6 months

Marble Arch Mound closes after 6 months

Marble Arch Mound closes after 6 months

A new tourist attraction in London that was mocked from the second it opened is now closing to visitors.

The Marble Arch Mound is closing just six months after it first opened, CNN reported, ending a saga of ridicule and confusion that has followed it since it started welcoming visitors.

The attraction, which reportedly cost £6 million (about $8.1 million) to build, was billed by the city of Westminster as a temporary and “unique opportunity to look out over the area from a new perspective as the Council and its partners start to transform the District.”

But from the moment it opened, the public was confused.

Marble Arch Mound

The Marble Arch Mound promised visitors a lush, green hill that would rise more than 80 feet high, providing visitors with sweeping views of Hyde Park and bustling Oxford Street. But in reality, those who showed up were greeted with what appeared to be an unfinished project and an absence of shops and a cafe that were advertised but nowhere to be found.

Crowds queue to see the Marble Arch Mound on the final day before its closure. The artificial hill in central London has been called “London’s worst tourist attraction” and is closing down permanently.

In July, a spokesperson for the architecture firm that built the attraction told The New York Times that changes in the planning forced them to make the mound smaller and steeper, making it harder to plant the vegetation they had envisioned.

Ahead of its closure, Twitter came out in full force, taking one last opportunity to mock the failed project.

“Excellent horticulture is not easy, but makes all the difference. For the price of this ‘attraction’ we could have funded a generation of world class horticulturalists, who might just make things like this actually work,” one person, who said they were a curator at the Cambridge University Botanic Garden, tweeted over the weekend.

Another man tweeted: “went to pay my respects to the Marble Arch Mound before it closes – rip you big lump of mud, still not quite clear why you were built.”

While travellers to the UK will no longer be able to visit the mound itself, they can still seek out greenery in England’s many picturesque small towns.

April 5, 2022 – Most Instagrammable Hotel in the World

The Shore Club Turks and Caicos has been crowned “The Most Instagrammable Hotel in the World” for 2022, following up on its victory last year, making it Luxury Travel Advisor‘s first-ever repeat champion.

Following six rounds of voting, where we started with 64 hotels from across the world broken down into four regional brackets, we have finally named a winner. In its Final Round matchup, The Shore Club took down Wildwaters Lodge by securing 51.42 percent of the vote.

What’s most impressive is over 145,000 people voted in the round (with the breakdown being 74,637 in favor of The Shore Club and 70,509 for Wildwaters Lodge). The champ came out of the Latin America and Caribbean bracket, while the runner-up represented Europe and Africa.

Honorable mentions this year belong to Marina Bay Sands, the champion of the Asia, Indian Ocean and South Pacific bracket, and Hotel NH Collection New York Madison Avenue, which came out of the North America bracket.

Prior to its final round matchup, The Shore Club Turks and Caicos faced tough competition in the semifinals against Hotel NH Collection New York Madison Avenue (the North America winner), edging out the property with just under 51 percent of the vote (4,475 to 4,306). In an earlier close contest, it topped Mexico’s Wayam Mundo Imperial with just over 51 percent of the vote 2,778 to 2,626). The hotel previously knocked down Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal in the Round of 16, receiving just over 60 percent of the vote.

The Shore Club had won the first round against Vista Encantada Spa Resort & Residences and followed it up with a win over Conrad Tulum in Round 2. The most popular location for Instagram shots at The Shore Club Turks and Caicos is on the hotel’s Colonnade Pool Swings. We, and you all, clearly see why!

Clifford Tower – forbidden for 340 years!

Forbidden for 340 years!

Clifford Tower now shows parts that were forbidden for 340 years!

Built for Henry III between 1245 and 1272, the Tower had a stunning £5million makeover, which took over 19 years (!).

Clifford Tower

Off-limits for 340 years, now you can see the  unusually luxurious fixtures and fittings, including England’s first flushing loo since Roman times. Rhere’s now a viewing platform at the top affording visitors amazing views of the city.

The transformation of what was York Castle’s 800-year-old keep has been 19 years in the making, with English Heritage’s head properties curator Jeremy Ashbee tasked with the project shortly after he joined the preservation charity in 2003.

‘Nothing beats standing on the spot where history happened,’ states English Heritage’s website, but since a fire that gutted the property in 1684, visitors to Clifford’s Tower have had to make do with a narrow wall walk, accessed by steep steps. In effect, the two-storey tower was an open-air ruin with no floors. As Ashbee admits, it was previously a frustrating visit because so much of the building – including the royal loo – could not be reached.

The new timber viewing platform retains a hole for the elements to enter, and Ashbee is keen to stress that the innovative internal structure, supported by four timber columns, touches the sidewalls of the tower only ‘lightly.’ Visitors climb to the roof — it’s more of a suspended deck, really — via see-through steel walkways.

Experience stunning views over the ancient city and immerse yourself in centuries of history at one of York’s most iconic sites. Clifford Tower has sat at the heart of the city since the Norman Conquest, and over the years it’s been a royal mint, a medieval stronghold and a garrison in the Civil Wars. Today, a spectacular new roof deck gives unrivalled views over York’s historic skyline, with its medieval buildings and famous Minster. Inside, new walkways and staircases have opened up parts of the tower that have been off-limits for centuries, and immersive soundscapes and stories are bringing the tower’s turbulent history to life like never before.

Euston train station – new with stunning golden roof – what treasures were found during construction?

blank

London Euston station

Euston train station – treasures uncovered

London Euston station will have a golden roof, coloured bronze or gold and is part of new plans for the high-speed railway in London.
We have to wait a little before it opens, somewhere between 2031 and 2036.

In the mean time, archaeologists working on the HS2 project in Euston discovered Victorian time capsules and the remains of Captain Matthew Flinders, the Royal Navy explorer who led the first circumnavigation of Australia.

The discovery at Euston train station

Archaeologists working in West London on the HS2 project have uncovered a fascinating rare set of Iron Age potins, an early version of the coin, dating back to the 1st century BC.

The hoard of over 300 potins is a significant historical find, and was discovered in Hillingdon in August last year (2020). The find may be recognized as “treasure” under British Law.

‘The Hillingdon Hoard’ – as it has been called – dates back to the late Iron Age, during a period of change as the Romans began to establish themselves in Britain and create Londinium. The potins are based on coins struck in Marseille, France, about 2,175 years ago, which bear the left-facing head of Apollo on one side and a bull charging right on the other. The use of these early coins spread across northern Europe. In England their use was commonly linked to Kent, Essex or Hertfordshire. The term ‘potin’ refers to the base metal silver-like alloy used in coins. It is typically a mixture of copper, tin and lead.

What were the potins used for?

Historians are unclear what the potins were used for during the Iron Age, particularly as the exchange of goods and service, or bartering is thought to have been the main method of commerce at that time, nor why the coins were deposited where they were found.

Archaeologists analysing the discovery believe the potins may have been to mark the boundary of a property or as an offering to the Gods – in a woodland clearing or near a sacred spring. It is not unusual for a hoard to be found in an apparently isolated location and they may also have been buried as saving hoards or as emergency hoards in times of crisis.

The first series of potins produced in Britain, are known as Kentish Primary or Thurrock types, and are likely to have been made no later than 150 BC. Sometime before 100 BC, these rather bulky coins were replaced by thinner coins with more degenerate designs, now called Flat Linear types. Over a period of several decades, the Flat Linear potins gradually evolved into a wide variety of forms, with the depiction of the bull and the head of Apollo becoming more and more stylised. The Hillingdon Hoard is late in the Flat Linear sequence.

A hoard of a similar size, the ‘Sunbury hoard’ was discovered in 2010 but the potins were dated much earlier in the Iron Age. Potins from late in the Iron Age, similar to the Hillingdon Hoard, have been found previously but in much smaller quantities, making this find very significant.

The site in Hillingdon was undergoing archaeological excavation and analysis led by HS2’s enabling works contractor, Costain Skanska joint venture (CS JV) and the archaeologists involved were elated to make such a significant discovery. Following a storm, ground conditions changed, and revealed where the coins were buried.

Sleeping Beauty Castle- 41.200 sheets of gold leaf added!

Disney has gone all out and celebrates its 30th anniversary in style.

The launch of the festivities and found celebrations already in full swing at Europe’s number one tourist attraction.

The number 30 is emblazoned everywhere from the main entrance to the Mickey-shaped balloons sold on Main Street.

All paths still lead to the iconic pink Sleeping Beauty Castle but even this has been spruced up for the occasion, with a mammoth renovation requiring 370 gallons of paint and 41,200 sheets of gold leaf applied by hand.

Fashion designer Stella McCartney has designed Minnie Mouse’s first-ever trouser suit plus a new range of merchandise, and there’s even a specially-created celebration cocktail of tangy gin, elderflower liqueur, blackberry, green apple, grape and lemon – probably best enjoyed after you’ve finished riding the roller coasters.

Menus in the 59 restaurants across Disneyland Paris have also had a 30th-anniversary makeover.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-inspired restaurant in London – fantastic addition in Kew gardens

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-inspired restaurant in London - new in Kew gardens

February 4, 2022 – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-inspired restaurant in London – new in Kew gardens

Here’s a venue for sweet-toothed restaurant-goers to get their teeth into – an eatery that’s inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-inspired restaurant in London – new in Kew gardens

Described as a mixture between the beloved Roald Dahl novel and a ‘nature-led laboratory’, the new Family Kitchen restaurant, situated in London’s Kew Gardens, is a ‘world of fantasy’.

The children’s writer is at the heart of the interiors – fixtures such as the zany mushroom sculptures and a giant apple chair are ‘inspired by fantastical worlds in literature such as Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach’.

The ‘multi-sensory’ restaurant, which was designed by London-based Mizzi Studio and can accommodate up to 250 diners, is set beside the Children’s Garden

While Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory revolves around sugar, the mission of this restaurant goes a bit further, to ‘offer children an insight into plant types, local produce, agricultural techniques, food processing and meal preparation’. Interactive installations that teach families about the ‘origins of their food’ are dotted throughout the eatery.

At the entrance, visitors are greeted by a ‘radiating LED sun’ on one wall. There are blue seats patterned with mosaics of waves, inspired by the work of Antonio Gaudi, and raincloud-shaped hanging lights suspended from the ceiling.

The coolest House of Gucci film locations – top 5 of beautiful places

the coolest house of gucci film locations

The coolest House of Gucci film locations – The first pictures released from Ridley Scott’s latest project, House of Gucci starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver, give a glimpse of glamour, style – and wonderful locations to inspire your next ski trip

The coolest House of Gucci film locations

Lady Gaga shines in the Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci, telling the story of the 1995 murder of fashion scion Maurizio Gucci. So where are these cool film places and can we visit them.

During filming in the Italian Alps, Adam Driver as Gucci and Lady Gaga as the ‘Black Widow’ Patrizia Reggiani were photographed sporting an Eighties après-glam style that might just become the inspiration for post-pandemic skiing in the new Roaring Twenties.

As well as turtlenecks, furry hats and excessive gold jewellery (Gaga was also snapped in a red leather catsuit – see below), we wonder if fondues and Gitanes might be on the way back too. It also got us thinking about where we’ll be going. Here we check out one destination that we know at least some of the film is being shot in, and, in honour of Gucci himself, round-up the four other coolest destinations in the Italian Alps, from the Aosta Valley in the west to the Dolomites in the east.

1) The coolest House of Gucci film locations

Gressoney-Saint-Jean

This pretty village in the Aosta Valley is standing in for St Moritz in the film, where Gucci and Reggiani had a chalet. Like neighbouring Gressoney-La-Trinité, Gressoney-Saint-Jean has barely been troubled by the passage of time – making it ideal for nostalgic post-lockdown skiing. Hotels along the valley, including Lo Scoiattolo and Nordend, tend to be snug chalet-style affairs, heavy on wood, stucco and soft furnishings. From nearby Staffal, the lift pass offers access to the vast and underappreciated Monterosa ski area, which is known across Europe for its heli-skiing and vast off-piste. Lingering red runs cross three dreamy valleys to resorts such as powderhound-favourite Alagna and charming Champoluc, where eco-adventure CampZero represents a new kind of alpine stay around these parts.

2) The coolest House of Gucci film locations

Cortina d’Ampezzo

Gucci and Reggiani, who was also known as ‘the Liz Taylor of luxury labels’, surely frequented Cortina d’Ampezzo, the most chi-chi of the Italian resorts and a favourite of Taylor herself. There may be a few more Russian and Milanese influencers these days, but Cortina still has some of the most fabulous fur-clad people-watching in the Alps – ideally over a beluga lentil and scallop stew on the terrace of El Camineto restaurant, before retreating to the extravagantly domed spa of the Cristallo hotel, crisply renovated since the era when Klaus Kinski and Brigitte Bardot frequented the Monkey bar. Just out of town, the four-table Aga was a pioneer in the local zero-mile foraging movement when it was opened in 2015 by Noma alum Oliver Piras and his wife Alessandra Del Favero.

3) 1) The coolest House of Gucci film locations

Alta Badia

It’s barely an hour down the road from Cortina to Alta Badia, a valley of six villages that share an ancient Ladin language and culture based around subsistence farming. These days, that translates into unfussy but seriously good locavore food along the valley – from agriturismos such as the 200-year-old Maso Runch to St Hubertus, with three Michelin stars for its cook-the-mountain philosophy. While hotels lean towards woodsy-rustic – like the Kolfuschgerhof in little Colfosco – newer stays have been mixing things up in recent years, including the Adler Lodge eco-retreat, with its onsen-like thermal baths. There’s serious off-piste skiing along the valley, and access to the Dolomiti Superski area with about 745 miles of pistes running to Cortina and beyond.

4) The coolest House of Gucci film locations Merano

Gorgeous, craggy South Tyrol is both homely and forward-thinking – a Germanic area with an ancient tradition of nature-gazing and buying local, powered largely by renewable energy. The best place to get a sense of it is the Merano basin, known for its geothermal spa resorts even in the days when Ezra Pound and Franz Kafka would come to take the crisp air. Most spectacular is the Miramonti Boutique Hotel, south of the Merano 2000 ski resort, all angular timber and faintly steaming infinity pools overlooking an epic mountainscape. To the south, the delightful village of Lana is home to two beautiful mod-rustic stays: the eight-room 1477 Reichhalter, with its buzzing bar in a renovated Tyrolean inn, and Villa Arnica, an elegant 10-bedroom mansion with a citrus-sharp pool in a lush garden.

5) The coolest House of Gucci film locations Courmayeur

On the Italian side of Mont Blanc, Courmayeur has some of the best off-piste skiing and climbing in Italy, and quieter pistes than the more illustrious Chamonix at the other end of a long mountain tunnel. There’s a quietly buzzy après-ski scene here, starting with aperitivo hour at Bar Roma, and food’s taken seriously, especially on the mountain at spots such as the cosy Rifugio Maison Vieille shepherd’s hut and Chiecco, known for its wild-boar ragu. Hotels run from smart, timber-clad Le Massif to the more simple Auberge de La Maison on the edge of town, while the futuristic Skyway Monte Bianco – the world’s most expensive cable-car project – whizzes up to the Mont Blanc massif, with links to Chamonix’s famous Aiguille du Midi station.

November 23, 2021- Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment on AirBNB.  I wonder if Mr Big will make an appearance?

Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment on AirBNB

In celebration of the upcoming release of the HBO Max Original And Just Like That…, the highly-anticipated new chapter of Sex and the City, the award-winning actress and producer is opening the doors to Carrie Bradshaw’s New York City brownstone, in partnership with Airbnb and Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

  • Hopeless romantics can sip Cosmopolitans, type pensively at their laptop and chat with friends on a circa-2000 cordless phone at Carrie’s Upper East Side apartment.
  • For the first time ever, guests will enjoy unique access to the style icon’s closet (tutu, too!), alongside fab and friendship-centric experiences like brunch in Chelsea and a fashion-focused photoshoot.

It’s been 20+ years since unlucky-in-love advice columnist Carrie Bradshaw stepped into our lives – in stilettos, no less – on Sex and the City. As anticipation builds to revisit the beloved character in her newest chapter, And Just Like That…, Sarah Jessica Parker is adding Airbnb Host to her repertoire and offering fans a once-in-a-lifetime stay at Carrie’s apartment – lust-worthy closet included.

Sarah Jessica Parker will host two, one-night stays for up to two guests each at a recreation of Carrie’s brownstone on November 12 and 13 for only $23* a night, in honor of the 23 years since we were first introduced to the fashion-forward icon and her friends.

“The Carrie Bradshaw character is near and dear to my heart, and revisiting her world for the continuation of the Sex and the City story has been such a joy,” said Parker. “I’m excited for our audience to experience Carrie’s New York like never before and walk in her shoes, quite literally, for the first time.“

A stay at Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment –

So we couldn’t help but wonder…what would a night at Carrie’s look like? During their stays, guests will be immersed in a quintessentially Carrie experience with:

  • A virtual greeting at check-in from Sarah Jessica Parker herself, and a narration reminiscent of each episode’s thought-provoking intro.
  • The opportunity to descend the steps of her brownstone and stroll the streets of Manhattan (splash from a city bus not included).
  • Cosmopolitans for a toast.
  • The chance to admire and play dress-up in Carrie’s iconic closet, complete with her favorite looks (like the Patricia Field tutu she wears in the opening credits), designers, and of course, shoes!
  • A styling session and photoshoot where guests can channel their inner fashionistas.

To celebrate Carrie’s return to television screens, Airbnb will make a one-time donation to The Studio Museum in Harlem, a contemporary art museum championing the work of artists of African descent.

Salt Bae – Gold Plated Steak anyone?

blank

blank

Just opened in London – Salt Bae is a chef artist and has a very unusual way of salting and covering his steaks with gold.

Salt Bae – Gold Plated Steak

The price of such a steak rises above 1000 euros, but imagine your pictures on Instagram.  Apparently, Salt Bae even feeds you if so desired!

All in all, a surreal experience and critics don’t know what to make of it.

More about Salt Bae

Gökçe became famous from a series of viral Internet videos and memes. His fame came from a viral video, “Ottoman Steak”, posted on 7 January 2017.

The video shows him cutting meat and sprinkling salt on it in a “suavely” way.

The video of him lovingly preparing an Ottoman steak, posted on January 7, 2017, has to date garnered more than 16 million views.

His strangely sensual meat videos soon evolved into a series of viral memes, with viewers taking particular delight in the flamboyant way Nusret sprinkled a handful of salt crystals at the end of the clip.

His beginnings:

He started working as an apprentice in Turkish steakhouses aged only 12.

In his twenties, Gökçe picked up sticks to go to Buenos Aires, to learn more about their beef and the art of butchery.

The more he learnt about steak, the more his dream to open a restaurant intensified – and he did exactly that.

He opened his first Nusr-Et steakhouse in Istanbul in 2010.

The brand grew, and he opened restaurants across the Middle East, including in Ankara, Doha and Dubai.

It was then that Gökçe shot to viral internet fame – and it allowed him to open a total of 13 restaurants within the year, expanding into America and Greece.

In September of 2021 he opened a restaurant in London and now has his sights set on Saudi Arabia.

A Prada in the desert?!

blank

blank

Prada in the desert?

It has become a cult destination – and even Beyonce and The Simpsons are fascinated!
In the middle of the West Texas desert you find this fully stocked Prada store.

Prada! In the middle of nowhere?’ So remarks Marge Simpson in an episode of The Simpsons that made a real-life but fake Prada store in Texas even more irresistible as a photo-op pitstop, following a serious boost in its allure by Beyonce, who posted a picture of herself jumping in front of it to Instagram.

The creativity of Scandinavian duo Elmgreen & Dragset gave life in 2005 to the Prada Marfa permanent artistic installation located in the middle of the Chihuahua desert, 37 miles from Marfa.

A faux store built following Prada’s boutiques aesthetic codes and provocatively conceived to naturally deteriorate with time without undergoing any external repair or restoration.

The bizarre ‘Prada store’ sits by the road in the middle of the West Texas desert and contains genuine items from the 2005 Prada collection, including 20 pairs of heels and six handbags. But you can’t buy them.

The store – called Prada Marfa after the nearby town of Marfa in the Chihuahuan desert (although it’s technically in Valentine) – is actually a permanent art installation, built in 2005 by Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset, two Scandinavian artists based in Berlin.

The Art Production Fund (APF) and Ballroom Marfa, a centre of contemporary art and culture, helped finance the project, while head designer of Prada, Miuccia Prada, handpicked the merchandise for the store’s interior.

She also gave permission to Elmgreen and Dragset to use the Prada logo.

It was originally built as a protest against the high-priced commercialism that was gentrifying U.S. cities in the 1990s. The artwork was to disappear over time and erode into the landscape before anyone could even notice it.

However, rather than fading away, the fake Prada store has been a runaway success.

Beyonce posted her Instagram picture in 2014, with no comment.

So far, it’s had over 500,000 likes.

Prada Marfa’s Simpsons cameo came in 2019, with Homer relieving himself around the back of the building after Marge’s exclamation, claiming ‘it’s on the side of the road, so by definition it is a bathroom’.

The months will be January, February, June, July, August and September, but might be extended.
