New Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun To Open This December

September 26 2022 –

Royalton will open a new hotel in the Riviera Maya this December. The new luxury property will be called Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun and is the latest addition to a growing number of hotel openings in the area
Situated along the Riviera Maya coastline, the all-inclusive, family-friendly resort focuses on entertainment for all ages.

Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun

Travelers headed for a winter vacation to the Riviera Maya this year can look forward to staying at the brand-new Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun. The new resort will be big by Mexican Caribbean standards: with more than 1000 suites, guests will find plenty of amenities within the resort’s expansive premises. Construction of the new resort is quickly wrapping up, and the first guests will be welcomed sometime in late December.

The beachfront resort is conveniently located only 35 minutes east of Cancun International Airport and is close to other tourist hotspots like Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Its tropical surroundings – turquoise waters and palm-tree-lined shores – welcome guests to sit back and relax.
Part of the Autograph Collection by Marriott, Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun is an all-inclusive experience where the fun never stops. Entertainment options are packed into every part of the hotel: From one of the largest waterparks in the Caribbean to an excellent array of bars and restaurants, Royalton Splash is all about offering guests a good time.
Aside from extensive entertainment options, the new resort is also designed with luxury and comfort in mind. Guests can enjoy Royalton’s All-In Luxury service concept, which goes well beyond the all-inclusive offerings of other resorts. Among other things, visitors can access reservation-free dining, bowling, an indoor arcade, a fitness center, and daycare services for younger guests. Not to mention the water park, which comes with 14 monster slides.

The Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun offers guests a range of accommodation options, from unparalleled luxury to more modest comfort. With 9 room types on offer, there’s a little something for everyone. The spacious Luxury Junior Suite is ideal for small families or couples and is complete with either ocean or mangrove views.
Visitors seeking the utmost comfort and luxury can opt for the Luxury Sky Chairman Two Bedroom Ocean Front suite, the property’s most lavish offering. Sleeping up to eight people across two bedrooms, the massive space is meant to give guests expansive views of the surrounding ocean.

However, all rooms come with a private balcony and 24/7 room services. And thanks to the DreamBed technology found in all of the hotel’s beds, guests can get a good night’s rest to help them make the most of their stay.

Visitors can already book a stay at the new resort from December 20 onwards. A 6-night stay in January 2023 will set guests back $2,300 (or $386/night) when choosing the Luxury Junior Suite. A stay of the same duration in the more upscale Luxury Junior Suite Ocean Front room will cost $6,309.

The new resort also offers guests plenty of dining and drink options. There are 12 restaurants and 10 bars to choose from. Focusing on both local and international flavors, guests can enjoy a versatile dining experience during their stay.
Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean have been experiencing a hotel boom in recent times. As international travel continues to bounce back following a two-year hiatus, more hotels and resorts are popping up across the region. In addition to Royalton, AMR is betting heavily on the area, with three new hotels set to open soon. Overall, the Riviera Maya has seen the newest hotel openings, followed by Cancun and Isla Mujeres.

Rosewood Hotels and Resorts announces re-opening of Rosewood Bangkok and Rosewood Luang Prabang

September 23, 2022 –

Rosewood Bangkok and Rosewood Luang Prabang re-open while Rosewood Phuket and Rosewood Phnom Penh debut refreshed programming.

Rosewood Hotels

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts®, the ultra-luxury hospitality company that manages 30 properties worldwide, is pleased to announce the re-opening of Rosewood Bangkok in Thailand and Rosewood Luang Prabang in Laos as well as key updates for Thailand property Rosewood Phuket and Rosewood Phnom Penh in Cambodia. With a collection of eight hotels and resorts in Asia, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has robust plans to grow their presence in the region, having already announced nine future openings. With the recent re-opening of the destination to international travelers, the brand continues to focus on building unique and thoughtful programming for guests, with a focus on sustainability, wellness and food and beverage initiatives.

“We are thrilled to share the latest news around Rosewood Hotels & Resorts’ Southeast Asia properties and look forward to welcoming back international travelers to these discerning destinations as travel returns in a larger way,” said Hoss Vetry, vice president of operations, APAC of Rosewood Hotel Group. “The re-openings of Rosewood Bangkok and Rosewood Luang Prabang, coupled with exciting programming updates at Rosewood Phuket and Rosewood Phnom Penh, mark the brand’s continued establishment in the region.”

Located in the prime business and retail district of Ploenchit, Rosewood Bangkok is set to re-open its doors on September 20, 2022. The property will unveil 17 new guestrooms, wellness studios, signature suites, and “houses” that represent first-of-their-kind superlatives in the capital. The new houses feature expansive high-rise outdoor terraces with private plunge pools, state-of-the art wellness facilities and uninterrupted views of the metropolitan skyline and lush nearby parks from floor-to-ceiling windows. The hotel’s largest accommodations are the luxury residence-style houses: Nara House, Thara House and the Bannakarn House.

The design of Nara House is inspired by an apartment loft of a worldly art collector and showcases a collection of voluptuous sculptures as well as contemporary paintings produced by up-and-coming Thai artists, including a large piece specially commissioned by art authority S.A.C. Subhashok The Arts Centre. Situated on the 23rd floor, the 208-square-meter Thara House follows the same design cues as Nara House but offers even more living space and an airy ambiance, with a palette of silver and jade green. Both Nara and Thara Houses can be combined with a Premier Suite to expand these spacious accommodations into two-bedroom residences. The pinnacle of Rosewood Bangkok luxury living situated on the hotel’s top floor, Bannakarn House was inspired by a mid-century modern Mad Men lifestyle of the 1950s and 60s. It features a sumptuous lounge area, seductive alabaster cocktail bar, grand 10-seat dining table, and a full chef’s kitchen complete with a wine cooler, full-sized refrigerator, and Gaggenau appliances. Decked out with ornate moldings and artisanal accents by local craftspersons, Bannakarn House also features a commissioned figurative oil painting on canvas by Bangkok artist Amnaj Wachirasut, a separate powder room, spacious walk-in closet, and an outdoor terrace with sunbeds and a plunge pool. Bannakarn House residents have exclusive access to their own dedicated VIP elevator accessed through a private entrance.

Two exclusive Sense Studios offer a seamless wellness retreat experience – an oasis of calm sophistication for guests to unwind with Juliet balcony, temperature-control in-room treatment bed, expansive whirlpool and therapies from Sense, A Rosewood Spa.

Re-opening of Rosewood Luang Prabang

Set to re-open on October 1, 2022, Rosewood Luang Prabang, the brand’s first property featuring luxury tented accommodations, is hidden in the lush green jungle that surrounds the historic royal settlement of the ancient Laotian capital. Bordered by a riverbank, the resort offers 23 spacious accommodations including four deluxe rooms, four specialty suites, three riverside villas, six pool villas and six luxury tents, which include their own private dining areas and wrap-around decks. Lao tradition and French colonial style are sensitively woven throughout the design and architecture, including the use of indigenous materials and locally inspired artwork. Dining options consist of The Great House, a relaxed colonially influenced bistro featuring the best of local Laotian flavors, and the Elephant Bridge Bar, serving classic cocktails with a twist, made using local herbs and spices grown in the resort’s organic garden, as well as traditional Laotian bar snacks. Sense, A Rosewood Spa®, draws on locally harvested botanicals to create Laotian therapies designed to cleanse, replenish and balance the body, mind and soul. Seated next to a natural waterfall on a large open space behind The Great House, the oval shaped pool is the focal point of the property, where guests can relax on sun beds under tented cabanas.

Wellness and Sustainability News at Rosewood Phuket

Rosewood Phuket, a 600-meter beachfront property at Emerald Bay and featuring Asaya, an integrative wellness concept, will debut an array of new programming on October 1 touching on wellness, food and beverage, and sustainability.

Asaya’s new seasonal program “Fall into Wellness,” is available to both guests and locals, and offers a half-day experience dedicated to assisting participants in discovering their personal path to wellness. This program will begin with a 45-minute health and wellness consultation to determine the body’s essential wants and needs, followed by a comprehensive selection of treatments based on five different modalities to enrich the mind, body and soul: physical, emotional, fitness, skin and nutrition. The program will end with a two-course meal tailored to individuals’ dietary preferences.

With sustainability at the heart of the brand’s values, the resort has launched their Rosewood Explorers Kids Club with Movement, Culture and Sustainability as the three main pillars. Yoga classes invite children to learn about health, wellness and meditation, while the Garden Explorers program teaches young guests about the health benefits of herbs and vegetables grown on property. After learning, the Rosewood Explorers will pick from the garden to make their own green juice or plant-based lunch. As a part of the Eco Discovery Walk, children will learn about the resort’s sustainable practices and the ways people can reduce their carbon footprint. They will also understand the importance of clean and purified water, solar energy, sustainable building materials and how to harvest rainwater when they’re back at home.

Additional activities include a “Make Your Own Paper” class where kids will understand the benefits of recycling, an Ocean Life class where they learn about the property’s Coral Reef Restoration program and participate in ocean science activities and an Eco Fashion Class where children will get to design outfits from recycled materials. There are even sustainable activities for adults, including a plant-based cooking class where they’ll have the opportunity to learn about the herbs and vegetables grown at the resort and implement sustainable cooking practices.

New Food & Beverage Offerings at Rosewood Phnom Penh

Rosewood Phnom Penh, Rosewood’s Cambodian property located in the heart of Phnom Penh, is excited to bring several new food and beverage initiatives to life this Fall. The property recently solidified its reputation as one of Southeast Asia’s leading cocktail destinations through the unveiling of their Rosewood Bar Series in collaboration with The World’s 50 Best Bars. Hosted by Sora Sky Bar, the series invites guests to connect with one respected mixologist per month and has already hosted veteran bartender Hayden Lambert of Melbourne’s Above Board; Nikos Bakoulis, who helms top-ranked Greek bar, The Clumsies; famed Italian bartender Benjamin Fabio Cavagna of Milan’s 1930; industry legend Benjamin Padrón of Licorería Limantour (No. 6) in Mexico City; and Lukas Kaufmann from the Singapore’s famous 28 HongKong Street. From November 24-26, Rosewood Phnom Penh will welcome head bartender Giacomo Giannotti from world renowned Paradiso, Barcelona’s atmospheric speakeasy bar, currently ranked third on the World’s 50 Best Bars.

The property will also be relaunching their partnership with celebrity chef and Cambodian cook, Rotanak Ros, better known as “Chef Nak,” to introduce a new Khmer menu at Brasserie Louis. The exclusive menu will present ten treasured local recipes, including three royal dishes featured in Chef Nak’s upcoming cookbook, SAOY – The Forgotten Flavors of Royal Cambodian Home Cuisine (“SAOY” meaning “to eat” in the context of royalty), slated for publication in late 2022.

La Zambra Malaga

September 23, 2022 –  La Zambra Malaga

Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) announces today the opening of La Zambra, a reborn hotel destination in Málaga, Andalusia. The opening marks the completed transformation of the infamous Byblos hotel, an icon of late 20th century celebrity and indulgence. Inspired by the celebrity and luxury of its past, La Zambra joins The Unbound Collection by Hyatt and signals Hyatt’s continued focus on creating elevated experiences for guests, World of Hyatt members and customers in the world’s most desirable locations.

Nestled in the Mijas mountains and just under 2 miles (3 km) from the coastline, La Zambra invites guests to experience a one-of-a-kind stay steps away from the charming “Pueblo Blanco” of Mijas, one of the white villages of Andalusia. Ideally located 20 minutes from Málaga airport, the hotel immerses guests into surrounding landscapes, offering easy access to world-class golf courses, lush natural greenery, and the stunning beaches of the Mediterranean. Guests can enjoy the relaxing lifestyle of the local culture on visits to nearby villages, or venture along the coastline to vibrant hotspots of Fuengirola, Puerto Banús and Málaga to sample the rich culture, gastronomy, and nightlife that the region is known for.

The character of the 197 rooms and suites include warm materials and soft tones, evoking longed-for Andalusian essence with an indulgent backdrop where relaxation and fun are blurred. Four distinct dining options feature the flavors of southern Spain, while the luxurious 26,909-square-foot (2,500-square-meter) Mood Spa, offering a Turkish bath, sauna, whirlpools and 12 personalized treatment cabins, will recalibrate body and soul according to the mood preferred by every guest. This commitment to laid-back indulgence ensures a stay at La Zambra is a true expression of its history and Spanish-Mediterranean roots.

“We are delighted to open La Zambra and bring The Unbound Collection by Hyatt to Costa del Sol,” said Joost Kruissen, General Manager of La Zambra. “The Unbound Collection by Hyatt is dedicated to inspiring its guests to create their own stories – and ours is one of relaxed, rebellious luxury, thanks to the legacy of the emblematic Byblos hotel. We can’t wait for our visitors to start their own La Zambra story.”

La Zambra Malaga

Rooms with a Natural Design

La Zambra’s rebirth, led by architecture firm Estevia I Estevia, leverags the use of natural materials to effortlessly harmonize with the intimate and alluring atmosphere of the hotel’s Spanish-Mediterranean architecture. Amplified by the colors of La Zambra’s surroundings, guests will find warm terracotta and natural tones echoing through the hotel’s patios, hideaways, and shared spaces.

Each of the 197 rooms and suites display carefully crafted items, including handmade tapestries, bespoke sinks and lampshades, and ceramic vases. These custom details evoke the carefree Zambra dance that gives the hotel its name. Emphasized by natural light, warm colors, soft linens, and locally inspired furnishings, each room encourages guests to unwind in their own personal sanctuary.

Room and suite options include garden and golf course views with sunlit terraces, offering serene vistas of the surrounding landscapes. Innovative Food and Drink

The hotel’s four different dining concepts embrace the spirit of Andalusian gastronomy, combining tradition with innovation to tell unique stories about La Zambra’s locale.

Palmito’s all-day Mediterranean menu caters to diners of all ages from morning to night with one-of-a-kind displays and an incomparable setting. The restaurant’s outdoor terrace and spacious dining room are set against a backdrop of the Andalusian mountains, where guests can select from a variety of dishes to suit their tastes, from plant-based options to rotisserie grilled dishes, international favorites and sea delicacies, alongside live cooking demonstrations and tailored meal options.

Picador is a neo-taverna with a cheeky spirit in the heart of Andalusia. Calling upon local culinary flavors, the menu invites guests a respite from the ordinary with a distinctive Spanish flair in a spirited, vibrant setting where dishes are perfectly paired with a glass or two of the world’s finest wines.

Bamboleo bar offers an innovative and diverse menu of meals and snacks that combine local dishes with Asian, American, and Mexican-influenced offerings. The bar’s extensive cocktail menu celebrates the iconic moments of the Costa del Sol, helping guests make their own memories when the sun sets on the bar’s terrace.

La Bartola is an ode to authentic Chiringuitos, Spanish beach bars, that serve light snacks and lunches perfect for poolside dining. Guests will find the best of the Mediterranean with seafood tapas, salads, and authentic Andalusian dishes, paired with one of the bar’s fresh juices and smoothies while they enjoy the spontaneity that characterizes La Zambra.

Wellness and sports

La Zambra’s Mood Spa is a tranquil oasis that encourages visitors to disconnect and relax. Spa therapists guide visitors through five different wellness journeys, offering personalized treatments that immerse both body and mind. In addition, Mood Spa will offer exclusive signature treatments for body and face with elements of floating massage which allows guests to move weightlessly in a three-dimensional space creating a unique feeling of movement.

Guests can also experience peaceful movement with on-site yoga and Pilates classes, led by an expert instructor in one of the hotel’s calming studios.

For those looking for self-led activities, the on-site fitness facilities include a world-class gym fitted with the latest Technogym equipment, two tennis courts, a paddle court, and two outdoor swimming pools.

Keen golfers can make the most of their stay in one of Europe’s most popular golfing destinations, as the hotel has privileged access to two world-class golf courses located next to La Zambra and designed by renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, who has built more than 400 courses around the world. Nearby, Mijas has around 12 significant golf courses in the area and along the Costa del Sol there are 2 championship golf courses.

Inspiring Meeting and Events

Business and leisure guests alike can create their own story-worthy moments in one of La Zambra’s four meeting spaces.

The hotel’s tranquil location and natural surroundings make it an ideal choice for hosting a special occasion, from private parties to weddings. Planners will find event menus designed exclusively for their guests’ tastes and can make use of the hotel’s bars and terraces as well as an on-site nightclub to carry the celebrations into the night.

Munich’s Oktoberfest Is Underway for the First Time in 2 Years

Munich’s Oktoberfest Is Underway for the First Time in 2 Years

Munich’s Oktoberfest Is Underway for the First Time in 2 Years

September 22, 2022

Oktoberfest is officially underway after Munich’s mayor tapped the first keg over the weekend.

Mayor Dieter Reiter hammered a keg three times, tapping it to the tune of a celebratory countdown on Saturday to officially welcome the festival back for the first time since before the pandemic. The 187th Oktoberfest will take place through Oct. 3 without any pandemic-era restrictions in place.

This momentous Oktoberfest is being celebrated after two years of cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reiter told The Associated Press on Saturday the decision to bring the festivities back “was a good decision.”

“I’m glad that we can finally celebrate together,” Bavarian governor Markus Soeder told the wire service. “There are many who say, ‘Can we, can we not? Is it appropriate now?’ I just want to say one thing: We have two or three difficult years behind us, no one knows exactly what this winter will be like, and we need joie de vivre and strength.”

Oktoberfest was first held in 1810 to commemorate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria to Princess Therese. In addition to the beer, visitors this year will be treated to historical rides at the Oide Wiesn, which was initially intended to be a one-off event in 2010 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Oktoberfest, but proved so popular it became a tradition in itself.

In past years, Oktoberfest has typically drawn about 6 million visitors per year.

In June, Germany dropped all COVID-19-related travel restrictions, eliminating the need to show proof of vaccination, a negative test, or proof of recovery to enter, according to the German Missions in the United States.

Travelers who head to the country can experience so much more than its beer with Germany’s gorgeous forests, picturesque small towns, and cool upside-down railway. As a bonus: Germany is the best place in the world to work remotely from due to its cybersecurity, economic, and social conditions (and the beer doesn’t hurt).

Radisson Blu Hotel Perth opens its doors with 75 rooms

Radisson Blu Hotel Perth

Radisson Blu Hotel Perth

September 21, 2022 –  Radisson Blu Hotel Perth opens its doors.

Radisson Hotel Group is delighted to announce the opening of Radisson Blu Hotel, Perth, the Scottish city on the River Tay known as the “Gateway to the Highlands” of Scotland. The hotel occupies a landmark property that first opened in 1890 as one of the original British railway hotels.

Settled since prehistoric times and formerly known as the “capital” of Scotland because of the frequent residence in the city by the Scottish court, Perth is now a popular destination for domestic and international travelers.

Radisson Blu Hotel Perth

Visitors can enjoy time in the city’s many attractions such as museums, theatres, churches, whisky distilleries, breweries or on one of the numerous golf courses located in and around the two main parks of the city, North Inch and South Inch. The surrounding Perthshire countryside boasts breathtaking parks that attract many visitors in pursuit of outdoor and adventure sports.

Sitting within landscaped gardens, Radisson Blu Hotel Perth was originally built as one of the British Transport Hotels due to its proximity to the train station, and is a Grade II listed building, featuring beautiful architecture and grand staircases. Shortly after its original opening, the then Prince of Wales and future King Edward VII inspected and approved the hotel for a visit by his mother, Queen Victoria, who became a frequent guest.

She would often split her journeys to Balmoral Castle by visiting the hotel for lunch in her private room, and a ‘royal passage’ was created, linking Perth train station with the property.

Radisson Blu Hotel Perth features 75 guest rooms and suites, a restaurant, lobby bar, garden bar, fitness gym, treatment rooms, as well as two ballrooms, including the largest outside Edinburgh, and five large meeting and conference rooms.

The hotel’s restaurant, Victoria, will be a vibrant, social meeting place offering a spin on classic British dishes served with organic wines. The modern grill menu celebrates the beauty of the land and sea through fire, foraging, and the cultivated fields brought to life by way of seasonally inspired classics that promote sustainable, fresh, organic, and local ingredients, from grass-fed beef to foraged herbs and great farm cheeses.

General Manager, Asen Panagonov, says: “We are delighted to be bringing this much needed upscale hotel quality to Perth under the Radisson Blu brand. We aim to restore the hotel to its rightful position as the jewel of the Fair City and welcome guests for a relaxing stay within a vibrant city, surrounded by stunning scenery.

The addition of such a historic landmark property to our Radisson Blu portfolio in the UK is a great achievement. Radisson Blu Hotel, Perth is the seventh property to join our Scottish portfolio, with other hotels located in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Inverness,” comments Tom Flanagan Karttunen, Area Senior Vice President, Northern & Western Europe at Radisson Hotel Group.

With the health and safety of guests and team members as its top priority, Radisson Blu Hotel, Perth is implementing the Radisson Hotels Safety Protocol program.

The in-depth cleanliness and disinfection protocols were developed in partnership with SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing, and certification company, and are designed to ensure guest safety and peace of mind from check-in to check-out.

Hyatt Newest Caribbean All Inclusive Resort Is Open in Cozumel

Hyatt

Hyatt Newest Caribbean All Inclusive Resort Is Open in Cozumel

September 20 2022 –

The highly-anticipated new Dreams Cozumel Cape Resort and Spa has officially opened its doors

The newest all-inclusive resort on the beloved island off the Caribbean coast of Mexico welcomed its first guests this weekend.

Hyatt All Inclusive Resort

Dreams Cozumel Cape is the AMR Collection’s third resort property in Cozumel. AMR Collection is the centerpiece of Hyatt’s global all-inclusive offering.

The resort is home to 154 suites, ranging from swim-out suites to larger connecting units for families.

So what about dining?

The resort has five dining concepts: two a la carte eateries, a pizzeria, a cafe and an “international buffet.”

Cocktail spots include the ocean-view Aperitifs; the Marlin pool bar; the Preferred Club Lounge bar and the thatched-roof, toes-in-the-sand Sugar Reef beach bar.

The family-friendly resort has beach and pool volleyball, ping pong, a kids club, and a pair of pools: one main pool and another for scuba diving lessons.

Daily entertainment includes big-screen movies, theme nights, yoga classes, mixology workshops and even Spanish lessons (and, naturally, tequila tastings).

There’s also a full slate of tour operations for exploring both Cozumel and the broader Mexican Caribbean, including a focus on local culture and Mayan history.

While there isn’t a spa directly on property, guests can head to the adjacent Secrets Aura Cozumel and enjoy that resort’s 14,000-square-foot wellness destination, the Secrets Spa by Pevonia.

And adult guests at the Dreams Cozumel Cape get full access to the amenities at the Secrets Aura Cozumel, while all guests have access to the Sunscape Sabor Cozumel.

It’s yet another new addition to Apple Leisure Group’s rapidly-expanding portfolio of all-inclusive resorts in the wider Caribbean, both in the Mexican Caribbean and island destinations like Saint Lucia (home to two resorts in the pipeline).

Cozumel has been seeing rapid growth during the pandemic, with new flights from major carriers and continue hotel growth.

So far this year, passenger traffic at Cozumel’s airport stands at just over 464,000, a number that is more than 12 percent higher than the same period in 2019, before the pandemic. That’s one of the highest post-pandemic growth rates of any airport in Mexico, and nearly as strong as Cancun.

South Africa FAM trips offered by SA tourism board

South Africa FAM trips

South Africa FAM trips

September 20, 2022-  South Africa FAM trips on the agenda with the SA tourism board

Encouraged by the uptake in the travel, tourism and hospitality industries after the disruptions of the past two years, SA Tourism is scaling up the implementation of its sector growth plans. The country’s destination-marketing agency believes the moment is opportune to follow up and complement its ‘Live Again’ global campaign, with a familiariSation strategy on a grand and bold scale. This strategy is dubbed MegaFam, South Africa FAM trips  – to emphasise its scale and ambition, which is bigger than a typical destination-marketing familiarisation (Fam) campaign.

South Africa FAM trips

By definition, familiarisation involves allowing tourism industry professionals, opinion-shapers and influencers to sample a destination’s offerings, allowing them to form informed opinions on whether or not to recommend it in their various spheres of influence.

SA Tourism has taken South Africa FAM trips, tweaked and turbo-charged it, to put it to good use in amplifying our country’s brand promise that we are the ultimate destination for those seeking to re-energise, refresh and rejuvenate mind, body and spirit in the post-pandemic world.

The main thrust of the #MegaFam phase of our ‘Live Again’ growth campaign will see us invite to our shores over the coming months, some 840 carefully-selected people from varied backgrounds across all continents, time-zones, linguistic and cultural regions, professions, and social standing.

What the invitees have in common is their status as opinion-makers, thought-leaders, and agenda-setters in niche tourism markets.

They include influential travel bloggers, writers and journalists for established media, international tour operators from various regions of the world, and conversation-framers who focus on the travel needs of specific tourism niche markets such as the LGBTQIA+ community, women, and romantic-travel seekers.

Bronwen Auret, Chief Quality Assurance of South Africa of SA Tourism said about the South Africa FAM trips

“The idea is for them to come and be immersed in, to touch, feel and experience South Africa for themselves. They in turn, will be touched by our Ubuntu-centric spirit of hospitality, such that when they go back to their home countries, they won’t be able to keep quiet about their experiences here, and will want to Tweet it out loud, Instagram it boldly, blog it boisterously and of course for those in the tourism booking business; ‘sell it’ (as that old TV advert used to say)”

Examples of the invitees include a London-based French and Greek couple Stefan and Sebastien who have dedicated the past 10 years to traveling to more than 80 countries around the world, and reviewing them for the global LGBTQIA+ community on their blog ‘Nomadic Boys’. They include US-based Danny Rivers Mitchell whose ‘Black Girls Travel Too’ agency and blog curates for black women, travel experiences around the world, typically lasting a week on average.

And they include the Rwandan travel photographer Winnie Rioba, who lets her lens tell the story of the incredible destinations she has visited on the African continent.

The launch of MegaFam comes against the backdrop of recent developments that vindicate the correctness of the bold moves we have made to stimulate the tourism sector over the past year, such as the launch of the ‘Live Again’ global campaign.

Stats SA’s numbers reveal that by June this year, South Africa had received about 2.28 million international visitors, well on track towards surpassing 2021’s full-year total of just over 2.3 million.

This phase of the campaign also tallies up with growing confidence being shown in South Africa as a destination, through such moves as Air Belgium launching direct flights twice a week between Brussels, Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The significance of this move, along with Qatar Airways’ cooperation agreement with Airlink, signed a few months ago cannot be overstated. They underscore the importance of airlift in the recovery of our tourism sector.

They also bode well for SA Tourism’s ambitious target of raising international tourist arrivals beyond the 10 million per annum averaged in the three years immediately prior to the pandemic, which Auret has likened our nation’s founding president Nelson Mandela’s long walk;

“Our long walk is not ended until we match and pole-vault over this sector’s benchmark contribution to our economy’s GDP, which was 3.9 percent in 2019, yielding at least 774 000 jobs and some R 122 billion in foreign currency earnings that year.

Our walk is not ended until we vindicate the World Travel and Tourism Council in its prediction that our country’s tourism sector will grow at an average of 7.6 percent per annum, over the next decade.”

See’s again implored South Africans to put shoulder to the wheel in achieving MegaFam’s objectives by welcoming and treating the invited and other visitors to our country with our signature Ubuntu, warmth and generosity of spirit.

Sports sector contributed $2.45bn to Dubai economy in 2021

museum-of-the-future-dubai

Sports sector contributed $2.45bn to Dubai economy in 2021

September 20, 2022

The sports sector’s contribution to Dubai’s economy exceeded AED9 billion ($2.45 billion) in 2021, accounting for 2.3 percent of the emirate’s GDP for the year, said a senior official.

Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Sports Council (DSC), said the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, supported by a robust regulatory framework and an active lifestyle, has enabled the emirate to consolidate its position as the world’s preferred hub for sports in addition to being a destination for business, tourism, and education.

Chairing the third meeting of the DSC’s Board of Directors, he said the sector supports the creation of 105,000 job opportunities, accounting for 3.8 percent of the total employment in Dubai, said a Wam news agency report.

He credited Dubai’s pioneering regulatory framework and robust infrastructure for shaping the emirate’s sports sector. He noted that the government’s support for the industry is an integral priority within Dubai’s drive to become the world’s best city to live and work in.

“We are proud of the significant growth in the contribution of the sports sector to Dubai’s annual GDP. In addition to nurturing and fostering Emirati and expat athletes living in the UAE and ensuring the community’s health and happiness, the sports industry is now a significant economic contributor.

“At the DSC, we were keen to measure this growth in the contribution of sports to Dubai’s economy. In line with international best practices, we conducted a study in association with a major global consultancy. The study analysed and calculated the economic contribution of sports across different areas of the industry, including sports tourism, investment in sports training academies, sports events, and others,” Sheikh Mansoor said.

“The sports sector benefits from Dubai’s position as the world’s preferred destination for living, working, studying, and investing. The DSC supports the industry and the increase in its contribution to GDP by strengthening relations with international sports institutions and bodies. The council offers state-of-the-art facilities that support the work of local and international event organisers, which contributes to the growth of the sector.

“DSC encourages international sports stars and investors to take advantage of Dubai’s world-class facilities to open sports academies and host major world championships and training camps for various clubs, national teams and champion athletes, as well as to benefit from investment opportunities in its various fields. All these factors contributed to increasing the sector’s economic contribution and the number of employees in various related companies,” he added.

Dubai’s new sports strategy focuses on sports clubs in Dubai, infrastructure for sports facilities, e-sports, sports tourism, and sports technology, among others. It also identifies the main challenges, future development plans and strategy. The meeting also reviewed plans to develop football stadiums in Dubai and directed the concerned authorities to work on implementing them according to the approved schedule.

Air New Zealand touches down in the Big Apple

September 19, 2022 –

Air New Zealand touched down at John F. Kennedy International Airport yesterday, marking the first of its non-stop flights connecting the city of sails and the city that never sleeps.

Air New Zealand

Minister of Tourism for New Zealand Hon Stuart Nash, Chair Dame Therese Walsh and Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Greg Foran were onboard the inaugural flight, along with key tourism and travel partners. Foran says the introduction of a non-stop service between Auckland and New York connects his two favorite places.

“As one of the world’s greatest cities, Air New Zealand is proud to add the Big Apple to its list of 29 international destinations. By adding greater access to the East Coast of the US, we’re connecting our North American customers to the possibilities of 20 destinations within New Zealand as well as the Pacific and Australia, all within easy reach. This is terrific for our customers.”

The airline’s new international menu was debuted onboard NZ2, showcasing the best of New Zealand produce to the world. This features more choice in the air, so Premium customers can add the likes of seared salmon from Marlborough, free-range chicken from Waikato or bacon, and streamed green vegetables or fresh, crisp salads picked straight from orchards and fields in Gisborne, Waikato and the Manawatū.

As part of the new menu, Business Premier customers were welcomed to their dining experience with an amuse-bouche of New Zealand paua saucisson (abalone sausage) with herb cream and tomato.

Air New Zealand now serves seven destinations in North America – Chicago (from 31 October), Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver and (after much anticipation), New York City.

The first flight from New York (JFK) to Auckland (AKL) departs at 21:55 ET with an estimated flight time of 17 and a half hours.

Scandic hotel in Ski will open in 2026 – centrally located

Scandic hotel in Ski

Scandic hotel in Ski will open in 2026 – centrally located

September 19, 2022 – Scandic hotel in Ski – Scandic Hotels has signed an agreement for a new hotel in Ski outside of Oslo, Norway.  The hotel will be centrally located beside the train station and with 15 floors, it will be a new landmark in the city. In addition to 220 rooms, the hotel, which is expected to open in 2026, will also offer meeting facilities and a rooftop bar with panoramic views of the city.

Just a short train ride from Oslo lies the town of Ski in the municipality of Follo. In the coming years, Ski is expected to see strong growth through renovations of the central station and downtown area as well as the new residential areas that are emerging. With the new Follobanen railway that is expected to be completed during 2022, travel time to Oslo is also expected to be significantly shortened, making the area even more attractive to commuters.

– We are very happy to have had this opportunity to open a new Scandic hotel in Ski.  This agreement will strengthen our position in the region surrounding Oslo, which is undergoing rapid development, and at the same time create an exciting new meeting place for people who live and work in the city, says Asle Prestegard, Head of Scandic Hotels Norway.

Scandic hotel in Ski

Scandic’s new hotel will be a landmark that with its central location and proximity to Oslo will attract business and leisure travelers alike. The 15-story building will house both the hotel and offices, and it will be a new meeting hub in the city.

– We see great potential for hotels at public transport hubs. Together with Scandic, we are developing a hotel property that will have a high environmental performance and we’re extremely happy that Ski is being added to the list of cities where we’re establishing hotels, says Morten Austestad, Development Director at Bane NOR Eiendom.

Scandic hotel in Ski: When the hotel opens, like the majority of Scandic’s hotels, it will be ecolabeled according to the Nordic Ecolabel’s new, tougher environmental requirements. The hotel’s use of ecolabeled products and chemicals and 100 percent renewable electricity, the absence of single-use disposables, reduced water consumption, a climate-friendly menu and reduced food waste formed the basis for certification.

The rooms at the new hotel will be designed with circularity in mind and parts of the room interiors will be environmentally certified or made from recycled materials, most of which can be reused or recycled during renovations. The property will also be constructed according to a high environmental and technical standard with the goal to be certified according to BREEM Excellent, one of the highest levels in environmental certification for buildings.

The new hotel will further strengthen Scandic’s presence in the hotel market in the growing region around Oslo. Scandic already operates 19 hotels with a total of 4,211 rooms in and around the capital.
