Norwegian Bliss launches Alaskan cruise season

April 26, 2022 –

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has kicked off its 2022 Alaskan cruise season with Norwegian Bliss from Port of Seattle. This is the first ship to visit Alaska this season, as well as the first of five the group’s vessels to cruise the Last Frontier through October 2022.

Alaskan cruise season

The vessel will provide travellers with immersive experiences through Southeast Alaska, visiting natural wonders including the passage through the 25-million-acre World Heritage Site, Glacier Bay National Park. NCL was granted access to this natural wonder due to the company’s environmental commitments focused on air emissions, waste and wildlife protection. Other once-in-a-lifetime sites guests may visit include the majestic Mendenhall Glacier, which lies nearly 12 miles outside Juneau, Alaska and the Misty Fiords National Monument near Ketchikan, Alaska, a glacier-carved wilderness featuring snowcapped mountains and waterfalls.

NCL has a long history of cruising from Seattle to Alaska, having pioneered the route in 2001. The company is deeply committed to the region working with destination partners in Seattle and Alaska to drive immersive and responsible tourism. In conjunction with Port of Seattle, NCL Holdings, NCL’s parent company, invested $30 million to upgrade Pier 66, the renowned site where Norwegian Bliss was christened in 2018. The dual investment expanded the check-in area by 300 percent to more than 150,000 square feet. It also expanded two new passenger boarding bridges to provide a more comfortable and efficient embarkation process.

Harry Sommer, President and Chief Executive Officer, Norwegian Cruise Line said: “We have nearly three decades of history cruising Alaska, pioneering voyages to the Last Frontier from Seattle more than 22 years ago and christened the largest cruise ship in Seattle in 2018 with the debut of Norwegian Bliss. We could not be any prouder to return to our ‘second home’ and jumpstart the 2022 Alaska season with one of our most innovative ships and provide unforgettable guest experiences with some of the world’s most bucket list destinations.” Alaskan cruise season

Driving economic support in Alaska, the company partnered with and invested in Ward Cove Dock Group, transforming land, formerly designated as a superfund cleanup, or contaminated land, by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), into a sustainable, environmentally friendly and entertaining site for the community and cruise visitors.

Norwegian Cruise Line won ‘World’s Leading Cruise Line’ at World Travel Awards 2021

Through a partnership with the Alaska Native-owned Huna Totem Corporation, The company was able to complete a second cruise pier at Icy Strait Point, as well as expand the destination’s Wilderness Landing. Enhancements featured upgraded retail, and restaurants, as well as shore excursion offerings, including the world’s largest ZipRider zip line, and experiences highlighting the culture of the native Huna Tlingit people.

In 2021, as part of NCL’s Great Cruise Comeback to celebrate the restart of its operations, the brand restarted its U.S. voyages from Seattle to Alaska making its first call to Icy Strait Point and also officially welcoming the opening of the new Wilderness Landing pier and the first of two gondola systems to be completed as part of the joint investment between NCLH and Huna Totem.

Adventures in the Azuma Mountains in Japan

Adventures in the Azuma Mountains in Japan

Adventures in the Azuma Mountains in Japan

The Azuma Mountains are located on the border of Fukushima prefecture, which takes about 2 hours from Tokyo by bullet train.

The mountain range provides attractive hiking trails up to its various peaks and across its breathtaking volcanic landscapes that offer craters, marshlands, and ponds. The most popular hiking trail in the Azuma Mountains is called the Azuma-Kofukuji peak, which draws many climbers from spring to autumn each year with its great nature view.

Not only hiking but the area is also known for skiing. The area has a ski resort named Tengendai Kogen Ski Resort, where the visitors have a chance to experience Yonezawa’s puffy, weightless snow.

Channel Square, a company based in Fukushima with rich local contents, provides various guided activities such as snow trekking, powder surfing, extreme sledding, riding in a snowmobile, etc. The guides and instructors are very ready to open the area’s secrets to the visitors who venture off the regular tourist trails!

Since the mountains are series of volcanic mountains, they of course have Onsen (hotspring) in the area. Healing and relaxing your body in Onsen after enjoying the activities in Azuma will be the perfect itinerary for you.

Are you seeking for adventure in nature in a not-very-crowded areas close to Tokyo?

Perched between Yamagata and Fukushima, the Azuma Mountain Range is a powder-snow heaven dotted with indulgent hot springs. Popular with hikers in the warmer months, come winter the area is transformed into a magical place, home to steaming snow-surrounded baths, pristine slopes and the region’s legendary snow monsters. Embracing local wisdom and knowledge and part of a region still in recovery, there are local hosts, guides and instructors ready to open the area’s secrets to the visitors who venture off the regular tourist trails.

Washikura snow mountain white field experience Channel Square.

An indoor park hosting countless activities and events since the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, Channel Square has a firm place in the hearts of Fukushima residents. Now offering guided adventures in the local area, the Channel Journey project has everything from kayaking on a private lake to snow surfing on the stunning Adatara Mountain Range. Snow surfing is a fun alternative to snowboarding, a great way to make the most of the incredible powder snow and a unique sport.

For adventurers, there’s a one-day package that’s guaranteed to keep the adrenaline flowing, combining snow-surfing, trekking, extreme sledding and snowmobiling. With a specially cooked hotpot lunch to refuel in the middle and ending in the secret local hot springs, it’s a dream day in the snow.

For those focused on skiing, the 100% powder snow of Tengendai Kogen will transcend expectations. Located on the slopes of Mt. Nishi-Azuma, the region’s highest mountain at over 2,000m, the resort has 10km of slopes to choose from, with the highest course stretching 1,820m.

There is an even spread between intermediate, beginner and expert slopes, with non-groomed courses offering a taste of the wild side. Snowboarders have plenty of options here too, and with the extra-long season, there are adventures to be had for months.

Snow Monsters

As well as being great for snow sports, the incredible snow conditions of the Mt. Azuma area also create some otherworldly sights. Juhyo, known as ‘snow monsters’ are a rare and breath-taking highlight, created by snowstorms blanketing trees with layers of snow and ice.

Creating impossible forms on the mountain slopes as the season deepens, each monster has a unique and unusual form.

Often found in remote areas, a locally-guided trip from Grandeco Snow Resort can combine monster-hunting with local outdoor hot springs. Using a gondola and later snowshoes, the group can enter the world of juhyo on the slopes of Mt. Nishi Azuma.

After bidding the creatures farewell, it’s time to warm up in the beautiful baths of Nakanosawa Onsen. The hot spring town was founded nearly 400 years ago and the source is known to produce the most water in Japan, spouting 13,400 liters per minute. Known for its high sulfur levels, it’s a healing spring and allows bathers to relax deeply into its waters while surrounded by snow.

With a dozen Japanese inns to choose from, staying a little longer in Nakanosawa is a temptation visitors couldn’t be blamed for giving in to.

Radisson speeds up hotel development in Turkey to reach over 50 hotels by the end of 2023

Radisson speeds up hotel development in Turkey

Radisson speeds up hotel development in Turkey

April 25, 2022 – Radisson Hotel Group is accelerating its development pipeline targets in Turkey to reach 50 hotels by 2023 instead of 2025. In 2022, the Group plans to grow its presence in the country with 10 additional hotels and to introduce two new brands, Radisson Individuals and Radisson RED, to the Turkish market.

The Group is also allocating additional resources with the expansion of its local support team to drive further growth and reinforce its close relationship with its owners and partners.

Radisson speeds up hotel development in Turkey

In 2021, Radisson Hotel Group announced the goal to reach 50 hotels in Turkey by 2025. In that year alone, the Group signed six new hotels and opened new properties in key locations, including Bodrum, Mount Erciyes, and İzmir Aliaga. Since the start of 2022, the Group has confirmed 40 hotels and is on track to reach its target of 50 hotels by the end of 2023, supported by the launch of Radisson Individuals and Radisson RED in Turkey, and the expansion of Radisson Blu, the largest upper upscale brand in Europe.

Radisson Individuals is a key brand to support the Group’s growth locally as it appeals to independent hotels which represent over 75% of the existing hotel supply across the country. Radisson Hotel Group will open its first Radisson Individuals property in Turkey, Royan Hotel Hagia Sophia Istanbul, a member of Radisson Individuals this month.

Radisson speeds up hotel development in Turkey:
Located in the heart of the historic peninsula within walking distance of many attractions, including the Hagia Sophia, the Topkapı Palace, the Blue Mosque, and the Grand Bazaar, the hotel will offer 48 comfortable and elegant rooms and suites and two restaurants with views on the Bosphorus.

Radisson speeds up hotel development in Turkey:

The Group has also secured five new projects located in Assos, Gure, Yalova and Eskisehir which will be Radisson Individuals properties and are all scheduled to open within six to eighteen months. Radisson Hotel Group will continue cementing its position as one of the leading operators in Istanbul with almost 20 hotels in operation and under development with the opening of two new properties.

Radisson speeds up hotel development in Turkey:
In addition to the opening of Royan Hotel Hagia Sophia Istanbul, a member of Radisson Individuals, Radisson Hotel Group will welcome Radisson Hotel Istanbul Harbiye to its portfolio in the coming weeks.  A stone’s-throw away from the lively Taksim district, known as the city’s center for cultural, arts, and entertainment, the hotel will feature 90 comfortable guest rooms and be within walking distance of the city’s popular historic sights and public transport.

In line with increased demand for leisure travel, Radisson Hotel Group will also expand its footprint in Izmir with the opening of new Radisson Blu and Radisson RED hotels. Radisson Blu Hotel, İzmir Bornova will offer 220 guest rooms and Radisson RED Izmir Point Bornova will represent the introduction of the Radisson RED brand with 106 guest rooms aligned with the brand’s DNA of fashion, art, and music.“

We expect 2022 to be a record year of growth globally, and aim to reach 50 hotels in operation and under development in Turkey by the end of 2023. The recent launch of Radisson Individuals and Radisson RED in the country creates more possibilities to our guests and owners. We remain strongly committed to the country’s future tourism potential and are allocating further resources to our local teams with the addition of people within our commercial and procurement teams, as well as a new role to support our owners locally” says Elie Younes, Executive Vice President & Global Chief Development Officer.

Turkey is a key focus market, and the recent growth acceleration demonstrates the strength and relevance of all Radisson Hotel Group brands across the country. The introduction of Radisson Individuals has demonstrated a rapid success as a conversion friendly brand in a country led by independent hotels. The creation of a local role in Turkey will further support our proximity to all our existing and future partners but also demonstrates our commitment to unlock more opportunities and a clear focus on local expansion plans,” says Ramsay Rankoussi, Vice President, Development for Africa & Turkey at Radisson Hotel Group.

New Tourist Tax for Thailand 2024 Paradise awaits

Thailand lifts RT-PCR testing requirement for international arrivals from 1 May 2022

Thailand lifts RT-PCR testing requirement

Thailand lifts RT-PCR testing

April 25, 2022, Thailand lifts RT-PCR testing requirement for international arrivals from 1 May 2022

Travellers will be allowed to enter the kingdom without the pre-arrival nor arrival tests.

Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) today approved the lifting of the RT-PCR testing requirement for international arrivals beginning 1 May, 2022, and introduced two new entry schemes specifically customised for vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers.

TAT Newsroom will be providing updates in detail via www.tatnews.org once the official directives have been announced in the Royal Thai Government Gazette.

Thailand lifts RT-PCR testing requirement

New entry rules for vaccinated travellers:

International travellers who are fully vaccinated will no longer be required to show proof of a pre-arrival negative RT-PCR test nor undergo an arrival test.

They are still required to register for a Thailand Pass (via https://tp.consular.go.th/) with a Certificate of COVID-19 Vaccination and an insurance policy with coverage no less than US$10,000 (reduced from US$20,000).

Once arriving in Thailand, they will be allowed entry and are free to go anywhere  in the kingdom.

New entry rules for unvaccinated travellers:

International travellers who are unvaccinated or are not fully vaccinated will also no longer be required to show proof of a pre-arrival negative RT-PCR test nor undergo an arrival test.

They are required to register for a Thailand Pass with a 5-day hotel booking and an insurance policy with coverage no less than US$10,000 (reduced from US$20,000).

Once arriving in Thailand, they must proceed to undergo the quarantine for 5 days and undergo an RT-PCR test on Day 5.

Exception is made for unvaccinated travellers who are able to upload proof of a negative RT-PCR test within 72 hours of travel via the Thailand Pass system, they – like those fully vaccinated – will be allowed entry and are free to go anywhere in the kingdom.

While in Thailand, both vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers are advised to strictly follow health and safety standards. Travellers who are experiencing COVID-like symptoms should get tested. If testing positive, they must get the appropriate medical treatment.

New cyber resilience report for the global Travel and Tourism sector

New cyber resilience report

New cyber resilience report by WTTC

April 22, 2022- The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) launched a major new report at its Global Summit in Manila today, to help the sector’s stakeholders understand how cyber resilience is shaping the Travel & Tourism sector and plan for a safer and more robust future.

New cyber resilience report

The report, ‘Codes to resilience’, in joint efforts with Microsoft, draws on comprehensive research and in-depth interviews with cyber security experts in leading Travel & Tourism organisations such as Mastercard, JTB, and Carnival Corporation, among others.

The new cyber resilience report shows that whilst the COVID-19 pandemic has propelled the world and the sector into a more digital future, with the opportunities provided by digitalisation, new challenges have emerged, especially in cybercrime.

The inaugural report focuses on three key areas considered critical for the sector: cyber resilience, key issues and six best practices based on the lessons learnt prior to and during the pandemic.

The report goes on to show how digitalisation has become a strong enabler of business within Travel & Tourism, and given the international nature of the sector, it looks at the role of legislation around individual data protection.

According to the new cyber resilience report, more than seven out of 10 (72%)SMEs in the UK, the U.S., and Europe, have fallen victim to at least one cyberattack, and with SMEs representing 80% of all Travel & Tourism businesses, mitigating cyber risk must remain a priority for the sector.

Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO, said: “Technology and digitalisation play a key role in making the whole travel experience more seamless, from booking a holiday, to checking in for a flight or embarking on a cruise.

“But the impact of cyberattacks carries enormous financial, reputational and regulatory risk.”

This new cyber resilience report is quite critical and reveals four key issues to address in order to improve cyber protection and enhance resilience: securing identity data, securing business operations, understanding the impact of COVID-19 and managing global legislation.

According to the report, certain actions can help businesses better prepare to repel an attack, while laying the foundation to support long-term cyber resilience. Educating and training all staff, expanding risk security beyond the physical workplace, employing a zero-trust approach to cyber security, and transparency, among others, have been recommended by industry experts as good practices.

Cyber resilience is a crucial element to the future of Travel & Tourism, as cyber systems continue to facilitate and enhance activities between the sector’s stakeholders.

During a panel session at the tourism body’s Global Summit event being held in Manila today, industry leaders heard that cybercrime has cost the global economy U.S.$1 trillion and could reach a staggering U.S. $90 trillion by 2030.

According to the WTTC Economic Impact Report, in 2019, before the pandemic stopped travel in its tracks, the Travel & Tourism sector generated more than U.S. $9.6 trillion to the global economy.

However, in 2020, the pandemic brought the sector to an almost complete standstill, causing a massive 50% drop, representing a severe loss of nearly U.S. $4.5 trillion.

Digitisation has played and will continue to play a pivotal role in Travel & Tourism’s growth and recovery from COVID-19. It is therefore essential for the sector to integrate cyber security and cyber resilience to continue its recovery from the pandemic while supporting its growth in the future.

Hotel Marcel New Haven 1st net-zero hotel in the US

Hotel Marcel New Haven

Hotel Marcel New Haven

April 22, 2022 – The First Anticipated Net-Zero Hotel and First Passive House-Certified Hotel in the US Slated to Open This Spring

Hotel Marcel New Haven

The hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, will soon make history as what is believed will be the first net-zero hotel in the United States. The revolutionary hotel will utilize renewable solar power sources on site to generate the electricity needed for its common areas, restaurant, laundry, meeting rooms and 165 guest rooms and suites. Set to debut this spring, the all-electric hotel is currently accepting reservations for May 19, 2022, and beyond.

Hotel Marcel New Haven will operate independent of fossil fuels, resulting in zero carbon emissions. It is also expected to be the first Passive House-certified hotel in the country, and will be one of fewer than a dozen LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum-certified hotels in the country.

Recycling an entire building for utmost sustainability

The eco-friendly hotel is the result of the innovative vision of lead architect, developer and owner Bruce Redman Becker, FAIA, LEED AP of Becker + Becker. He purchased the building, which originally opened in 1970 as the Armstrong Rubber Company Headquarters, and modernized it with sustainability as the key focus every step of the way.

“We are all responsible for confronting the climate crisis, and that sense of obligation factored into every decision we made in creating Hotel Marcel New Haven,” said Becker. “The opening of this revolutionary hotel, which is giving new life to a New Haven landmark, is a momentous occasion for travelers, the industry and the planet. Guests will be ensured a terrific hotel experience and can relax knowing that both they, and the environment, are being cared for during their stay.”

Listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places, the iconic building, originally designed by Marcel Breuer, is a fitting destination for a new cutting-edge hotel which still nods to the building’s history. Features in the transformation of the building include a power-over-ethernet lighting system that reduces lighting energy use by more than 30%; repurposed building materials throughout, such as light fixtures and carefully restored wood-paneled walls in suites that were once the Armstrong executive offices and conference rooms; and extensive upgrades to enhance interior temperature control and air quality, resulting in the building using significantly less energy per square foot than most hotels.

Becker + Becker, along with partner Dutch East Design, retained many design elements of the original building’s Brutalist architecture with board-formed concrete and granite tile and a focus on functionality, clean lines and geometric forms. Operated by Remington Hotels, Hotel Marcel New Haven restores the former property’s structure and celebrates its storied history, while adding contemporary aspects including 7,000 square feet of meeting and event space with a penthouse courtyard.

Sustainable design meets guest comfort and travel convenience

The green design of Hotel Marcel New Haven also improves guest comfort. Triple-glazed windows provide ultra-efficient insulation to keep guest room temperatures stable, while greatly reducing noise levels. Built-in motorized sheer and blackout window shades provide a better night’s sleep. Guests and travelers on the go also have the convenience of 12 Tesla Superchargers or universal level-two chargers for their electric vehicles.

Eco-friendly food and beverage options for next-level dining

Dining offerings at Hotel Marcel New Haven further demonstrate the hotel’s sustainable experience. The on-site American restaurant and lounge BLDG (pronounced “building”) offers locally-sourced menu items served alongside biodynamic and organic wines. BLDG’s kitchen, as well as the hotel’s laundry room, run on electricity instead of natural gas. The kitchen uses induction, an energy-efficient process that ensures a more precise and even heat. In addition to the restaurant and bar, Hotel Marcel New Haven features a grab-and-go station offering sustainable snacks as well as design-focused gifts and a water filling station.

Unique brand welcomes guests to a sustainable hotel experience

Hotel Marcel New Haven joins the Hilton family under the Tapestry Collection, an upscale portfolio of more than 70 handpicked original hotels. Each Tapestry Collection by Hilton property is one-of-a-kind and features its own unique story. Hotel Marcel New Haven’s story reimagines an iconic historical building, celebrating its rich history while debuting an innovative eco-friendly travel destination.

“Hotel Marcel New Haven is a major milestone for the Tapestry Collection by Hilton brand as the first anticipated net-zero hotel in the U.S.,” said Jenna Hackett, global brand head, Tapestry Collection by Hilton. “Each Tapestry Collection property displays an original style and personality while also encouraging guests to explore local destinations. Hotel Marcel New Haven will connect travelers with the New Haven area while inspiring them to incorporate sustainability into every aspect of their stay. We look forward to celebrating this new and exciting chapter for this unique landmark with our guests.”

Hotel Marcel New Haven also offers a leading example of hotel development that advances Hilton’s Travel with Purpose program, an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy to drive responsible travel and tourism globally. Hilton is focused on paving the way toward a net-zero future and remains committed to partnering with its owners to help minimize carbon footprints and redefine sustainable travel.

Czech Republic travel restrictions eased for travellers

Travellers will no longer need to fill in an arrival form or submit proof of vaccination or a previous infection when returning from abroad. However, it is still recommended travellers to verify the conditions of transport (including proof of infectivity, i.e. test, vaccination, illness) directly with the agreed public transport carrier (plane, bus, train).

Czech Republic travel restrictions

Jan Herget, director at CzechTourism, said: “The Czech Republic has maintained its place in the world’s top ten – between Ireland and Canada. This topic is important in the marketing communication of the destination across segments, both towards the tourists themselves and especially at the level of B2B marketing, when it is necessary to assure our partners from large travel agencies or conference organisers that the Czech Republic is an objectively safe place for their clients.”

No more masks on airplanes, trains after court ruling in the USA

No more masks on airplanes and trains in the USA

WASHINGTON/CHICAGO, April 18 (Reuters) – The Biden administration will no longer enforce a U.S. mask mandate on public transportation, after a federal judge in Florida on Monday ruled that the 14-month-old directive was unlawful, overturning a key White House effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Soon after the announcement, all major carriers including American Airlines (AAL.O), United Airlines (UAL.O) and Delta Air Lines (DAL.N), as well as national train line Amtrak relaxed the restrictions effective immediately. read more

Last week, U.S. health officials had extended the mandate to May 3 requiring travelers to wear masks on airplanes, trains, and in taxis, ride-share vehicles or transit hubs, saying they needed time to assess the impact of a recent rise in COVID-19 cases caused by the airborne coronavirus. read more

Industry groups and Republican lawmakers balked and wanted the administration to end the 14-month-old mask mandate permanently.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle, an appointee of President Donald Trump, came in a lawsuit filed last year in Tampa, Florida, by a group called the Health Freedom Defense Fund. It follows a string of rulings against Biden administration directives to fight the infectious disease that has killed nearly one million Americans, including vaccine or test mandates for employers.

Judge Mizelle said the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had exceeded its authority with the mandate, had not sought public comment and did not adequately explain its decisions.

A U.S. administration official said while the agencies were assessing potential next steps, the court’s decision meant CDC’s public transportation masking order was no longer in effect. The administration could still opt to appeal the order or seek an emergency delay in the order’s enforcement.

“Therefore, TSA will not enforce its Security Directives and Emergency Amendment requiring mask use on public transportation and transportation hubs at this time,” the official said in a statement.

“CDC recommends that people continue to wear masks in indoor public transportation settings.”

The Transportation Security Administration said it will rescind the new Security Directives that were scheduled to take effect on Tuesday.

No more masks on airplanes and trains in the USA:

The ruling comes as COVID-19 infections rise again in the United States, with 36,251 new infections reported on average each day, and 460 daily deaths, based on a seven-day average – the highest number of reported total COVID-19 deaths in the world.

The White House called the ruling “disappointing.”

The CDC first issued a public health order requiring masks in interstate transportation in February 2021. The TSA issued a security directive to enforce the CDC order.

The CDC and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) declined to comment.

United Airlines, American, Delta, Southwest Airlines (LUV.N), JetBlue (JBLU.O) and Alaska Airlines (ALK.N) said masks are now optional on their planes.

“We are relieved to see the U.S. mask mandate lift to facilitate global travel as COVID-19 has transitioned to an ordinary seasonal virus,” Delta said. The World Health Organization warned against comparing the virus to an endemic illness like the flu earlier this year, noting it is evolving too quickly.

No more masks on airplanes and trains in the USA

The move could impact travel demand, which has roared back after a blip caused by the Omicron coronavirus variant. U.S. passenger traffic has been averaging about 89% of the pre-pandemic levels since mid-February, according to TSA data.

With the COVID-19 case count rising again, lifting the mandate could make some passengers wary, while prompting others to fly again.

Only 36% of Americans think it’s time for people to stop using masks and quarantines so that life can get back to normal after COVID-19, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted between Jan. 31 and Feb. 7. However, while a mere 16% of Democrats hold this view, a whopping 60% of Republicans do, according to the poll.

Delta Chief Executive Officer Ed Bastian last week acknowledged the risk, but said the airline still expected its flights to be full.

“It’s a question of individual accountability, personal accountability, making your own decisions rather than the government making decisions for people as to how to stay well,” Bastian told Reuters in an interview.

On Monday, Delta asked its employees to show “understanding and patience” as the unexpected nature of the announcement could result in “inconsistent” enforcement.

Since January 2021, there have been a record 7,060 unruly passenger incidents reported, 70% involving masking rules, according to the FAA. Thousands of passengers have been put on “no-fly” lists for refusing to comply with masking requirements.

Alaska said some passengers will remain banned, even after the mask policy is rescinded.
