Tenuta di Artimino, a new hotel in Tuscay opens its doors in April 2022

hotel news

March 28, 2022–Tenuta di Artimino

The hotel complex forms part of a former Medici estate surrounded by Tuscan countryside, and will open this spring

The Meliá Collection, a new Meliá Hotels International brand that brings together a collection of exceptional hotels with their own unique personality, has announced its latest addition: Tenuta di Artimino, a fantastic hotel complex in the heart of Tuscany, just 20 km from Florence, and scheduled to open in April to become the company’s ninth hotel in Italy.

Tenuta di Artimino

Located among the hills and vineyards of Montalbano, which was once home to an Etruscan settlement, the Villa Medici “La Ferdinanda” was built in 1596 by order of the Ferdinand I de’ Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, following a project designed by Bernardo Buontalenti. Also known as the Villa of the One Hundred Chimneys (Villa dei Cento Camini), it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013.

Next to the Villa is the hotel, built within a 17th-century Renaissance building and also accompanied by a group of lodges in the medieval village of Artimino, just 500 metres away. All in all, there are 102 rooms, suites, villas and lodges, as well as a winery, the gourmet restaurant Biagio Pignatta, the restaurant La Cantina del Redi (located in the heart of Artimino), a swimming pool, spa and large gardens and spaces for hosting events.

The rooms in Tenuta di Artimino are decorated in a Tuscan Renaissance style, with terracotta floors, wooden beams and elements using Pietra Serena, the typical Tuscan sandstone. Over the coming months, several renovation and redecoration works will be carried out in rooms and public areas to enhance the guest experience while also preserving all the historical and cultural legacy of this unique estate.

At the end of last year, Meliá Hotels International announced the launch of The Meliá Collection, a new collection of luxury hotels with their own particular personality, designed for travellers seeking both authenticity and a genuine connection with their destination.

They are carefully selected hotels, chosen either for their iconic location or historical significance, offering a choice of unique experiences designed to discover an unmistakable sense of place. The brand currently includes some of the most unique hotels in the company’s portfolio, such as the Meliá Serengeti Lodge in Tanzania, the Hacienda del Conde in Tenerife, the Hotel Villa Marquis in Paris or the Meliá Desert Palm in Dubai, among others.

The addition of Tenuta di Artimino is an important milestone for Meliá in its growth strategy in Italy, one of its top priorities in Europe, where it currently operates five hotels in Rome, Milan and Genoa. In addition to the opening of the Tenuta di Artimino, the company will also open in 2023 the majestic Gran Meliá Cordusio in Milan and its first two hotels in Sicily, the Meliá Siracusa and Meliá Taormina. The company is also continuing to explore projects in other destinations such as Sardinia and Puglia.

Located in central Italy and with its capital in Florence, Tuscany is the second most visited region in the country after Veneto. In addition to Florence, it is also home to other famous tourist attractions, such as Pisa, Siena, Lucca, Castiglione della Pescaia or Grosseto, as well as about 120 protected nature reserves.

The region is famous for its beautiful rolling hills and vast historical and cultural heritage. Origin of the Italian Renaissance, Tuscany was home to many influential figures of the time, whose legacy is preserved in some of the country’s best-known museums, such as the Uffizi Gallery and the Palazzo Pitti. The region is also famous for its wine, with its world-famous wines include Chianti, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano or Morellino di Scansano, as well as the Carmignano wine, produced by Tenuta di Artimino.

Dinner in Giant Ferris Wheel in Vienna

Dinner in Giant Ferris Wheel in Vienna

The Ferris Wheel is one of the most visited monuments in the Danube metropolis. It was built in 1896-1897 at the same time as the one of Chicago, London, Blackpool and Paris.

Today, Giant Ferries Wheel Vienna offers its visitors the opportunity to raise at a height of about 65 meters to offer a magnificent panorama of Vienna.

From the top of its 65 metres, the Ferris Wheel in Vienna is one of the largest and most famous tourist attractions of Vienna.

It was built in 1897 as a commemoration for Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, for his 50th year as the Austrian ruler, and has since offered visitors of Vienna the possibility to enjoy a splendid panoramic view over the Prater Park and Vienna old town, while making the most of a Ferris wheel ride.

Apart from during the three weeks of technical repairs in January, the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel is open all year round according to the season. The Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel proposes public tours, but it is also possible to book private tours, and even to combine them with catering services such as banquets, buffets and romantic candlelight dinners.

It is possible for groups to book private waggons on Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel for private rides. In total, six special waggons offer each enough room for 12 persons maximum: you can choose between four cocktail waggons and two luxury waggons.

The rental of special waggons offers several advantages: the equipment and comfort are superior to those of the classical waggons on the Vienna Wheel; the atmosphere is more relaxed because you have the waggon for yourself, and for that same reason, getting on and off the waggon is done without wasting time.

Dinner in Giant Ferris Wheel in Vienna

In addition, when you book special waggons the ride can be combined with onboard catering services, for example for a champagne reception or for coffee. The waggons of the Wheel can be booked for an unlimited time during opening times, the rental time is charged per started half hours.

In association with the rental of special waggons for private rides, it is also possible to book the services of a caterer onboard Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel.

This service is particularly adapted for incentives in Vienna or for special events. There is a great array of choices between the different types of services available onboard the Giant Wheel, among others luxury banquets on Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel.

In addition to ready-made offers, it is also possible to combine a ride on the Wheel with a tailor-made banquet.

Singapore has unveiled plans for the Vaccinated Travel Framework (VTF) for all travellers.

Singapore reopen – updated travel requirements

The new regulations, which replace the current Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) scheme, will come into effect on April 1st.

From next Friday, all countries will be classified either under the General Travel or the Restricted Category and border measures would be accorded by individual travellers’ vaccination status.

All countries will come under the general category to begin with, with no destination in the restricted category.

Further, it is no longer necessary to travel on a designated VTL flight, and short-term visitors will no longer need to apply for a travel pass .

They are not required to present their VTP at boarding and arrival immigration.

All vaccination certificates, regardless of country of issuance and whether digitally verifiable or not, will be accepted as proof of vaccination.

Children aged 12 years and below are exempt from the vaccination requirement.

All travellers must submit their SGAC at within three days before entering Singapore.

Michael Rodriguez, area director northern and south-western Europe at Singapore Tourism Board, commented: “The latest easing of travel restrictions is a really positive step towards Singapore’s tourism recovery.

As of 31 March, a new airline – the Dutch low-cost airline Transavia Airlines C.V. – will launch its operations at Riga Airport. The airline will operate three flights a week on the Riga – Amsterdam route, thus ensuring even better connections between the Baltic States and one of the busiest transit airports in Europe.

The national airline airBaltic will launch flights from Riga to Batumi in Georgia in May, while the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair will add two new destinations to its range of destinations: Riga – Växjö (Sweden) from 28 March and Riga – Newcastle (United Kingdom) from 1 April.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) announced today that Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels in the Americas continue to outperform in leisure, urban, drive-to, and mixed-use locations, with 48 new hotels in these brands expected to open across the Americas in 16 new markets for Hyatt in 2022 and 2023.

Hyatt expands: Hyatt Place and Hyatt House brands in the Americas will represent more than 6,400 rooms planned by year-end 2023, positively contributing to Hyatt’s industry-leading net rooms growth, which was 19.5% in 2021.

This includes growth as a result of Hyatt’s acquisition of Apple Leisure Group (ALG). The anticipated Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels in the Americas represent almost 9% of Hyatt’s total pipeline, and Hyatt will welcome more than 20 new owners to the Hyatt family.

Top-Performing Select Service Brands

Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels in the Americas continue to deliver strong performance, outperforming peers with an almost 400 basis points market share improvement in 2021 over 2019, with leisure, urban, and drive-to destinations as some of the top performing segments in 2021. “We continue to grow the Hyatt Place and Hyatt House brands in markets that matter to our guests and loyalty members, and in strategic locations where our owners and operators will see meaningful results,” Tierney continued.

March 24, 2022 – flights between NYC and Auckland – Getting to New Zealand just got easier. Today, Air New Zealand has announced its first flight from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to New Zealand will be on 17 September this year.

Flights between NYC and Auckland, New Yorkers are one flight closer to New Zealand

Landing at Auckland International Airport, the airline will operate the new route three times a week, year-round with its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The new service further deepens the alliance between Air New Zealand and United Airlines.

Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Greg Foran says with international flying on hiatus for almost two years and the New Zealand border reopening on 2 May to visa-waiver countries, this is the moment visitors have been waiting for.

“This is a breathtakingly beautiful part of the world. We’ve been keeping all the best spots, and hidden gems warm for our visitors while they’ve been gone and now, we’re ready to show them what they’ve been missing.

“The US has always been a key market for us, and this new route cements our commitment to growing opportunities for tourism between the two countries. In the six years leading up to Covid, the US visitor numbers to New Zealand doubled so we expect our much-awaited non-stop service to be incredibly strong year-round.”

flights between NYC and Auckland:
New Zealand allows its visitors to slow down. It’s home to magnificent landscapes, a tremendous amount of adrenaline-inducing activities, scenic tours, wellness retreats and world-class food and wine trails – there’s something for everyone.

flights between NYC and Auckland Departing New York at 9:55pm, customers will enjoy Air New Zealand’s award-winning cabin experience, and when they wake up they’ll be able to hit the ground running, heading off the beaten track and immersing themselves in everything New Zealand has to offer.

“Traditionally, flight numbers 1 and 2 are used for an airline’s flagship route. And that’s what New York will be – our flagship route. We’ve worked incredibly hard over the past few years to make this ultra-long-haul service a reality – it’s one of the longest routes in the world, at just over 16 hours northbound and 17 and a half hours southbound.”

There’s been a lot of thought put into the onboard experience and a particular focus on the sleep ritual for Premium customers, introducing relaxing balms and sleepy teas and snacks. For those needing help to unwind a little more, the airline will launch ‘Zentertainment’ on its inflight entertainment system to encourage a restful sleep. And before the descent into Auckland, a brunch service including a classic Kiwi flat white coffee will be offered.

Euston train station – new with stunning golden roof – what treasures were found during construction?

blank

London Euston station

Euston train station – treasures uncovered

London Euston station will have a golden roof, coloured bronze or gold and is part of new plans for the high-speed railway in London.
We have to wait a little before it opens, somewhere between 2031 and 2036.

In the mean time, archaeologists working on the HS2 project in Euston discovered Victorian time capsules and the remains of Captain Matthew Flinders, the Royal Navy explorer who led the first circumnavigation of Australia.

The discovery at Euston train station

Archaeologists working in West London on the HS2 project have uncovered a fascinating rare set of Iron Age potins, an early version of the coin, dating back to the 1st century BC.

The hoard of over 300 potins is a significant historical find, and was discovered in Hillingdon in August last year (2020). The find may be recognized as “treasure” under British Law.

‘The Hillingdon Hoard’ – as it has been called – dates back to the late Iron Age, during a period of change as the Romans began to establish themselves in Britain and create Londinium. The potins are based on coins struck in Marseille, France, about 2,175 years ago, which bear the left-facing head of Apollo on one side and a bull charging right on the other. The use of these early coins spread across northern Europe. In England their use was commonly linked to Kent, Essex or Hertfordshire. The term ‘potin’ refers to the base metal silver-like alloy used in coins. It is typically a mixture of copper, tin and lead.

What were the potins used for?

Historians are unclear what the potins were used for during the Iron Age, particularly as the exchange of goods and service, or bartering is thought to have been the main method of commerce at that time, nor why the coins were deposited where they were found.

Archaeologists analysing the discovery believe the potins may have been to mark the boundary of a property or as an offering to the Gods – in a woodland clearing or near a sacred spring. It is not unusual for a hoard to be found in an apparently isolated location and they may also have been buried as saving hoards or as emergency hoards in times of crisis.

The first series of potins produced in Britain, are known as Kentish Primary or Thurrock types, and are likely to have been made no later than 150 BC. Sometime before 100 BC, these rather bulky coins were replaced by thinner coins with more degenerate designs, now called Flat Linear types. Over a period of several decades, the Flat Linear potins gradually evolved into a wide variety of forms, with the depiction of the bull and the head of Apollo becoming more and more stylised. The Hillingdon Hoard is late in the Flat Linear sequence.

A hoard of a similar size, the ‘Sunbury hoard’ was discovered in 2010 but the potins were dated much earlier in the Iron Age. Potins from late in the Iron Age, similar to the Hillingdon Hoard, have been found previously but in much smaller quantities, making this find very significant.

The site in Hillingdon was undergoing archaeological excavation and analysis led by HS2’s enabling works contractor, Costain Skanska joint venture (CS JV) and the archaeologists involved were elated to make such a significant discovery. Following a storm, ground conditions changed, and revealed where the coins were buried.
