New York City welcomes first Motto by Hilton hotel

A new lifestyle offering

The 42-storey, 374-key Motto by Hilton New York City Chelsea is now open in the Chelsea Arts District of New York City. Hilton Worldwide’s inaugural lifestyle hotel in The City That Never Sleeps was designed by architecture and interior design firm Stonehill Taylor.

The design-led hotel – the first newbuild in Motto’s portfolio – is located a short walk from landmarks like the Flatiron Building, Madison Square Park and the High Line and within easy reach of multiple transit stations.

“We are thrilled to welcome guests to Motto New York City Chelsea, a major milestone for this quickly growing brand and perfect addition to Hilton’s burgeoning lifestyle category,” said Matt Schuyler, Hilton’s chief brand officer. “This hotel exemplifies what it means to be a lifestyle property – it is centrally located in one of the city’s most desirable areas, incorporates unique and modern design elements, and encourages guests to connect with the neighbourhood culture by providing them with authentic and locally minded experiences.”

Bassim Ouachani, general manager, added: “Chelsea is a neighbourhood unlike any other and the entire Motto Chelsea team is excited to welcome guests and locals to experience all this property has to offer. Combining unmatched hospitality, sleek and smart design, and a prime location, Motto Chelsea is sure to offer an authentic taste of all New York City has to offer.”

A reflection of the area

Guests can expect sleek and modern rooms with unobstructed views of the city, high-quality mattresses, flexible sleeping setups, smart technology and sound-absorbing surroundings. The hotel’s 19 sets of connecting rooms benefit from Confirmed Connecting Rooms by Hilton technology, simplifying travel for larger groups.

Motto by Hilton New York City Chelsea promises to celebrate the work of local artists, not least with the inclusion of a stained-glass reception desk backdrop paying tribute to the Chelsea Arts District. The hotel’s design also takes inspiration from the number 24, referencing its location on 24th Street. Design accents include the use of Chromium, the 24th element on the periodic table, and 24-karat gold.

Guests and locals can dine at the hotel’s full-service restaurant, craft bar and lounge Bar Cicchetti, designed and operated by restaurateur Fabio Viviani, which offers seasonally inspired cuisine along with craft beer and cocktails.

The lobby, Motto Commons, provides a neighbourhood gathering space complete with coffee bar, sunken conversation pit, and flexible event and meeting space with a board table. And Motto Commons’ second floor accommodates up to 150 people in a space that benefits from having an outdoor terrace.

These facilities are complemented by an onsite fitness centre featuring Hydrow equipment. Encouraging exploration of the surroundings, Motto Hosts are on hand to introduce guests to the local neighbourhood and the rest of New York City.

New Hotel Palazzo Nani in Venice – a Radisson Collection 5-star hotel

New hotel Palazzo Nani in Venice

January 24, 2022 – New hotel Palazzo Nani in Venice –

The historic Palazzo Nani, a 16th century noble building overlooking the Cannaregio Canal in Venice, has become a Radisson Collection 5-star hotel signed by Studio Marco Piva.

New hotel Palazzo Nani in Venice

Radisson Collection Hotel, Palazzo Nani Venice, is the fourth Italian structure of the Radisson Collection Hotel brand, for which Studio Marco Piva also designed the Palazzo Touring Club in Milan, inaugurated last August.

Preserving the past by designing the future: Palazzo Nani, previously house of the aristocratic Nani family, then a school, reopened its doors to the city, after the major renovation work curated by Studio Marco Piva, carried out under the supervision, and in agreement, with the Superintendence of Fine Arts and Landscape for the Municipality of Venice, as the property is subject to the protection regime for its historical value.

The new Hotel Palazzo Nani evolves the concept of luxury, giving it a cultural and refined value, combining the artistic heritage with a profound aesthetic research in which the best design integrates with the emotional and social value of the work, increasing its prestige even more.

A change of intended use that keep intact the historical and artistic value of the property, preserving and emphasizing the original structures and floors, as well as all the frescoes, magnified with the use of light.

The emotional element of the project is the lifeblood of the place: everything has been studied and designed with the intention of finding a reference to the city of Venice.

The work of Studio Marco Piva was therefore based on the dialogue between the existing on the one hand, and with the history of the place on the other, in a combination of past and future.

As part of its “Worry-Free Promise,” Holland America Line also will continue to implement best practices for COVID-19 health safety including operating vaccinated cruises and requiring a medically-supervised negative  COVID-19 test prior to cruising.

Holland America line flexible cancellation plan extended to give travelers the confidence to book a Summer Cruise”

Under the Holland America line flexible cancellation plan extended version, which was originally offered for cruises departing through the end of April, guests who make a new booking by March 31, 2022, for itineraries that depart on or before Sept. 30, can cancel for any reason and receive a Future Cruise Credit in the amount of any cancellation fees that normally would be incurred. Cancellations must be made up to 30 days before departure. Additionally, final payments for cruises through May 31, 2022, are due at 60 days instead of 75 or 90.

“We want our guests to feel confident when they book a cruise,” said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line. “We’ve seen so much excitement from guests who have cruised with us since our return. We want everyone who is looking forward to that next adventure to feel comfortable making those plans, and our ‘Worry-Free Promise’ offers that comfort.”

Cruise Healthy and Safe with TravelWell
Holland America Line will continue to operate with health and safety protocols for COVID-19 guided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization and the company’s medical team and health experts.

“By operating our cruises with protocols that are based on the latest advice and guidance of our global experts, we have seen a very low rate of cases, and in almost all instances, with mild or no symptoms,” Antorcha said. “We will keep these best practices in place because we know they are working to protect our guests, our crew, our homeports and the communities we visit.”

Those protocols include:

  • Guests must show proof of a negative viral COVID-19 test (PCR or antigen) taken within two days of embarkation.
  • Guests are required to wear masks in indoor areas, except when eating or drinking or in their stateroom. Holland America Line is recommending the use of higher-grade masks indoors (surgical or KN95).
  • Crew members are vaccinated for COVID-19 and are receiving a booster when eligible; KN95 masks are worn by shipboard teams at all times.

Holland America Line returned to cruising in July 2021 following the industrywide pause with ships in operation in the Caribbean, Mexico and California coast, having successfully completed seasons in Alaska and the Mediterranean. The remaining ships will restart cruising in spring 2022.

January 21, Ryanair has announced its largest ever summer schedule from Dublin Airport, with 120 destinations and over 900 weekly flights available to customers.

Ryanair unveils largest ever Dublin schedule

The schedule includes sunny getaways to Spain, Portugal and Italy.

The carrier also confirmed it will create 30 direct jobs as a result of adding an additional aircraft to the Dublin-based fleet.

With an additional 22 routes compared with summer 2019, Ryanair said its Dublin schedule is a direct result of the recently launched Traffic Recovery Scheme from airport operator daa.

With many airlines cutting capacity and routes this summer, the carrier said Ireland must lower access costs as it competes with regions and airports in other EU countries for a diminished pool of carriers.

Ryanair chief executive, Eddie Wilson, said: “After two years of stop/start ineffective travel restrictions, the daa have finally been given the tools to incentivise travel with its Traffic Recovery Support Scheme (TRSS) which was recommended by the aviation task force to government in their report of July 2020.

“This scheme gives Ryanair the confidence to invest in our largest ever summer schedule and largest number of based aircraft at Dublin Airport.

“The daa TRSS scheme will ensure airport charges are competitively priced versus other EU countries this summer, and Ryanair have responded by launching its largest ever investment in aircraft, connections and jobs at Dublin Airport.”

January 19, 2021 – The new Conrad-branded hotel boasts superb amenities in an unbeatable location.

Conrad debuts in Shanghai with landmark hotel

A milestone opening

Conrad Shanghai is now welcoming guests into its 66-storey, 728-room space within the prestigious tourism and business district People’s Square, close to many of the city’s biggest attractions. As well as representing a significant achievement for Hilton Worldwide in its own right, the launch further strengthens the company’s partnership with the property’s owning company, Shimao Hotel Management Group.

“We are thrilled to build on our robust luxury growth in Asia Pacific with the launch of the first Conrad in Shanghai, joining our 17 luxury hotels in Greater China with a further ten under construction,” said Alan Watts, president, Asia Pacific, Hilton.

“Our growth momentum demonstrates the strength and resilience of Hilton’s award-winning luxury brands amidst a dynamic market and sophisticated customer expectations. At the same time, it is a testament to our delivery to our partners, and the 11 trading hotels we have with the prestigious Shimao Hotel Management Group – who share our optimism for China’s luxury travel segment.”

Tyrone Tang, chairman and CEO of Shanghai Shimao Hotel Management Company and CEO of Shimao Star Hotels Group, added: “We are proud to elevate the success of our longstanding partnership with Hilton by bringing the second Conrad Hotels & Resorts property to fruition. Today’s milestone opening of Conrad Shanghai is a celebration of our achievement in our journey together. It also signifies a new chapter for Shimao Festival City that reaffirms its status as the city’s most coveted address.”

Fusing modern design with local tradition

To help create a sense of place, inspiration drawn from Chinese traditions is woven throughout the hotel’s glamorous design. Distinct design details include a Chinese rooftop cornice suspended as a lobby centrepiece, the use of this motif throughout, traditional calligraphy art and a colour palette drawing on the five elements.

Conrad Shanghai’s guestrooms come with smart connectivity, bath products by luxury brand Byredo and floor-to-ceiling windows with views over Puxi and the Bund. And its 60 luxurious suites, including a presidential suite, come with residential touches and access to the level 44 executive lounge.

The dining options here draw on global influences, from the Mediterranean coast to Paris’ bistros and China’s banquets. Cocktails are served with a view at the sky-high lounge and events are hosted in a 2,500 sq m pillarless space, including an 864 sq m ballroom and 13 meeting rooms, as well as Hu’s Penthouse and Hu’s Atelier on the 64th-floor.

“The latest addition to the Conrad portfolio in the heart of Shanghai is a shining example of how we are looking at every opportunity to bring our meaningful hospitality and intuitive service to iconic destinations,” said Nils-Arne Schroeder, global brand head for Conrad Hotels & Resorts and vice president of Luxury & Lifestyle for Hilton in Asia Pacific. “I am confident the bold design and modern sensibilities of Conrad Shanghai, paired with our personalised service, will create enriching experiences that will truly inspire luxury travellers from around the world.”

Tallinn welcomes new multifunctional cruise terminal

January 20 2022 – Located in the hustle and bustle of the biggest port authority in Estonia, the Port of Tallinn has opened the most modern and multifunctional terminal in the region.

Tallinn welcomes new multifunctional cruise terminal

Beautifully designed to reduce its negative impact on the environment, the sustainable cruise terminal can operate outside of cruise season, making the capital more accessible while reducing its environmental footprint.

A striking feature of the terminal – designed by Salto Architects – is the remarkable use of Kebony, a global leader in the production of sustainable wood, which was selected for the expansive decking and to clad the imaginative exterior.

The vast scale of the project allows for the terminal to be used to host events, such as concerts and conferences, accommodating up to 2,000 people.

The generous size also means that, even during the peak cruise season, some level of social distancing will be possible if required due to Covid-19.

Featuring tiered outdoor seating, visitors can enjoy the scenic ocean views at the highest point of the terminal.

Based in Norway, Kebony is a global leader in producing sustainable wood materials, which made it the perfect solution for this innovative project.

It created an elegant exterior which complements both the structural design and the oceanic surroundings.

January 19, 2022 -International travel chaos worldwide – BA, Japan Airlines and Emirates scramble to RESUME Boeing 777 flights after rollout was suspended near airports

International travel chaos

AT&T and Verizon have launched their 5G network across America, turning on 4,500 new towers
The network has not yet launched near some US airports due to concerns over safety

The telecoms giants agreed at the last minute on Tuesday to halt the rollout near those airports. By the time they did, international airlines had already canceled dozens of flights that were scheduled.

They were particularly worried about Boeing 777 planes which were considered most at risk.

Now, the airlines are scrambling to reverse that decision because it is still safe for the planes to fly.
The chaotic back-and-forth is trickling into other flights, causing travel headaches at airports overseas
Air India, Emirates, Japan Airlines and All Nippon all canceled flights scheduled for Wednesday.

British Airways had put passengers due to fly on 777 flights onto different aircraft to get around the fears
AT&T and Verizon are demanding to know why the FAA has not yet found a way to operate 5G safely.
The frequencies the towers work on could interfere with the frequencies used by altimeters on planes
The altimeters tell pilots how far they are from the ground when they are landing and are crucial to safety
