The Christmas Market at the Fortress Hohensalzburg boasts spectacular views as well as Austrian foods, drinks and handicrafts.

November 10, 2021 –  Hilton (NYSE: HLT) has signed a franchise agreement with Gefest Group, one of the largest real estate developers in the Odessa region, to build a new 145-room resort on the beachfront in the popular port city of Odessa, Ukraine. The hotel, due to open in spring 2025, will be managed by Cyprus based Millennium Hospitality and located near the famous Arcadia entertainment area.

Hilton Odessa

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, EMEA, Hilton said, “There is clear opportunity for growth in Ukraine, with two hotels set to join our portfolio alongside Hilton Kyiv. Growing international interest in Odessa and robust domestic demand make Hilton Odessa an important addition to our European pipeline. We are pleased to be working with Gefest Group to introduce our flagship brand to southern Ukraine.”

Pantelis Boumbouras, founder & president of Gefest Group said, “We are excited to announce our new development in Odessa, working with Hilton to bring an impressive resort that will appeal to both domestic and international travellers. With our experience in developing hotels and real estate in Odessa and a partnership with a global brand such as Hilton, we look forward to welcoming guests to Hilton Odessa.”

Vasilis Boumbouras, CEO of Gefest Group said, “Our company is a leader in commercial and residential construction in the region and we strive for innovation and green designs in our buildings. We are aiming to develop one of the best Hilton hotels in the world, both in terms of ambiance and in the quality of materials used. We pay attention to the finest details which will make the guest’s experience unique and memorable.”

In recent years Odessa has led the charge for Ukraine’s growing tourism industry. Domestic travellers from Ukraine, as well as international visitors from Europe, North America and Central Asia choose the port city of Odessa for its 19th century architecture, energetic culture and stunning Black Sea beaches.  As the largest trade centre in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Odessa’s position as a commercial hub means that business travel is also a key driver for growth in the city.

Spread across two buildings, décor for the hotel and its guest rooms will take inspiration from the natural environment, bringing the neutral sandy tones and rugged textures from Odessa’s beautiful coastline to the hotel’s interiors.  With two swimming pools — one indoor and one rooftop pool — offering stunning views overlooking the coast, the new build hotel will also provide direct access to Odessa’s fine sandy beaches. Guests will be able to choose from four restaurants and bars, two of which will be situated on the beachfront. The hotel will also feature an entire floor dedicated as a conference centre with an approximate total area of 800m2 including a 300m2 ballroom, an executive floor with an executive lounge on the rooftop and 600m2 wellness centre with a heated pool, gym, beauty salon and other leisure facilities.

Hilton Odessa will be located a short walk from the popular resort area of Arcadia, home to Arcadia Beach and its entertainment complex with many restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Further north along the coast, visitors will find the Botanical Garden of The Odessa State University, and several pristine beaches along the Black Sea coast, which are easily accessible through the city’s health route, which originates near the city centre and continues for over 15km along the coast, beyond the location of Hilton Odessa.  The city centre is less than 15 minutes from the hotel by car at a distance of just 6km, where travellers can see the world-famous Potemkin Stairs and Vorontsov Lighthouse.

Hilton Odessa joins a growing portfolio of hotels in the Ukraine, including Hilton Kyiv. Hilton Odessa will be part of the award-winning Hilton Honors guest loyalty programme, allowing more than 118 million members who book directly with Hilton to earn Points for hotel stays and experiences, plus instant benefits including contactless check-in with room selection, Digital Key and Connected Room.

The hotel will be located at Vannyi Lane and will also have a seafront building on Primorskyi Lane. It joins more than 140 Hilton Hotels & Resorts properties trading or under development across Europe.

Beijing Winter Olympics – fully prepared for in civil aviation, security, snow making and broadcasting

blank

blank

Statements from various departments exhibit full preparation for and confidence in the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics, as authorities in civil aviation, public security and broadcasting, and teams for snowmaking and meteorology said they are fully prepared.

Beijing Winter Olympics

The Global Times learned from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on Wednesday that Beijing Capital International Airport will be the only official port of entry for the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

The airport will use T3-D independent closed terminals as entry channels for international arrivals, and T3-C and T3-E terminals for international departures with closed-loop management, Sun Jianying, an official from the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, said on Wednesday.

From October 3 to November 9, a total of 85 flights related to the Olympics including 49 arrivals, 33 departures, and one freighter with a total of 2,380 passengers were processed with high efficiency and tight closed-loop control, data from the CAAC showed.

The Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau said on Tuesday that the security work for the Winter Olympics has entered the competition stage.

Some of the venues for the Beijing Winter Olympics are conducting test events and taking on other events. Since October 4, the security team at the National Sliding Center has entered closed-loop management for security work, with staff manning their posts 24 hours a day and conducting daily safety checks.

“We use the test events as a practice ground for Winter Olympic Games security and work, according to the standards and requirements of the Games,” an officer from the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau said.

The snowmaking team, the most important supporting team for snow sports, will use high technology to produce high-quality and environmentally friendly snow for the Games.

Through numerous tests, the Beijing Winter Olympics snowmaking team established the territorial parameters of the Yanqing and Zhangjiakou competition areas to create “ice-like snow” adapted to the characteristics of Beijing’s continental monsoon climate.

In order to cope with possible extreme weather, the team experimented with early snowmaking, which is to make and store snow beforehand in low temperatures and use it in the following winter.

Meteorological security is another field that the organizing committee has stressed, Wang Gengchen, head of the research team for the Beijing Winter Olympics’ meteorological security, told the Global Times on Wednesday.

Since the venues of the Beijing Winter Olympics are scattered and some of them are located in the mountains, there is a big challenge to weather forecasting, Wang said.

“The Beijing Winter Olympics has set up an experts’ team specializing in meteorology, which is strictly adopting different forecasting strategies for different venues to guarantee meteorological security refinement.

“Currently, the meteorological security experts’ team has conducted several batches of drills and has been on standby.”

In late October, China Central Television (CCTV) launched a new channel, CCTV-16, which is specially dedicated to Olympics-related programs, including live broadcasts.

As of November 7, the channel had a cumulative audience of over 56.43 million viewers, and it is available in all 31 provincial-level regions in the Chinese mainland, covering nearly 300 million subscribers.

In terms of broadcasting, the channel uses advanced 5G, 8K and artificial intelligence technologies. Currently, it broadcasts other special quality programs, as well as social and cultural activities to warm up for the Winter Olympics.

China’s State Language Commission has created the world’s largest multilingual terminology corpus for the Winter Olympics, covering eight languages and including every term related to the competition events of the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, the first of its kind in the history of language services for the Winter Olympics.

The Beijing Winter Olympics will take place from February 4-20, 2022 in Beijing, its Yanqing district, and neighboring Zhangjiakou in Hebei Province.

Thanksgiving Travel to Rebound Almost to Pre-Pandemic Levels in 2019

blank

November 10, 2021 – Thanksgiving Travel – Airports and roads may seem jam-packed this year as AAA predicts 53.4 million people to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, up 13% from 2020. This brings travel volumes within 5% of pre-pandemic levels in 2019, with air travel almost completely recovering from its dramatic fall during the pandemic, up 80% over last year. As restrictions continue to lift and consumer confidence builds, AAA urges travelers to be proactive when making their travel plans this holiday season.

Thanksgiving Travel

“This Thanksgiving, travel will look a lot different than last year,” said Paula Twidale, senior vice president, AAA Travel. “Now that the borders are open and new health and safety guidelines are in place, travel is once again high on the list for Americans who are ready to reunite with their loved ones for the holiday.”

With 6.4 million more people traveling this Thanksgiving coupled with the recent opening of the U.S. borders to fully vaccinated international travelers—people should prepare for roads and airports to be noticeably more crowded.

“International travel re-opening will allow people to reconnect with friends and family and explore new places, while also giving a much-needed boost to the economy,” continued Twidale. “But it also means airports will be busier than we’ve seen, so travelers must plan for long lines and extra time for TSA checks.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released its recommendations for holiday gatherings and related travel, saying that the best way to minimize COVID-19 risk is to get vaccinated if you’re eligible. However, everyone’s situation is unique and therefore, AAA urges anyone considering gathering or traveling for Thanksgiving to consult CDC guidance before finalizing holiday plans.

This year’s forecast marks the highest single-year increase in Thanksgiving travelers since 2005, bringing travel volumes close to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Despite gas costing over a dollar more per gallon than this time last year, 90% of people plan to travel by car as their preferred mode of travel. Although the car is still the most popular choice for travelers, a greater share will opt to travel by air and other modes such as bus, train or cruise this year. Whether you plan to do so by car or plane, it’s important to know how to navigate the new travel landscape to avoid unnecessary stress and challenges on the way to your Thanksgiving destination.

Be Proactive. Book flights, car rentals, accommodations and other activities as early as possible. Prices are not going down and are still somewhat impacted by the limited capacity of flights and staffing challenges faced by many industries. Consider working with a travel advisor who can make any last-minute changes to travel plans, explore travel insurance options and help plan a trip that meets your needs and comfort level this holiday season.

  • Air—Even with air travel seeing a boost this year, AAA finds that the average lowest airfare is 27.3% less than last year coming in at $132. Tuesday and Wednesday are still the most expensive and heaviest travel days with Monday being the lightest and least expensive. Those wanting to book last-minute travel will find the best fares about two weeks prior to Thanksgiving but keep in mind availability may be limited.
  • Hotels—Mid-range hotel rates have increased about 39%, with average nightly rates ranging between $137 and $172 for AAA Approved Hotels.
  • Car Rentals—Daily car rental rates have increased 4% compared to last Thanksgiving at $98. Over the summer, consumers experienced high costs and limited availability of rental cars in some markets, due to the semi-conductor chip shortage impacting automakers. While this shortage has subsided, it is possible it could return as the holidays near.

Be Patient. The roads and airports will be busy so plan ahead.

  • Arrive at the airport early so you’ll have plenty of time to get through longer TSA lines and other travel checkpoints. For domestic travel, AAA suggests 2 hours ahead of departure time and 3 hours for international.
  • Consider booking a flight during non-peak travel periods to cut down on wait times.
  • Hit the road when there’s less traffic and allow for extra time when traveling to your destination.

Be Prepared. For the 48.3 million Americans hitting the road, make sure you and your vehicle are ready for the trip ahead as AAA expects to respond to over 400,000 for help over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. If your vehicle has been sitting idle, AAA suggests getting an inspection to check key components like the battery, fuel system, tires, brakes and fluid levels. These systems are particularly vulnerable to deteriorating if a vehicle sits too long without proper care or maintenance.

Be Protected—Both You and Your Trip If you plan to travel during the holidays, it’s essential to do so safely and understand how to protect yourself, your loved ones and your investment while traveling. Also, as travel restrictions remain in flux, it’s essential to know requirements and recommendations based on your vaccination status, where you’re traveling from and your destination. AAA’s COVID-19 Travel Restrictions Map and TripTik.AAA.com are also helpful resources travelers may use for free to understand closures, recommendations and requirements when traveling in the U.S.

  • Travel insurance—AAA highly recommends travel insurance to cover unexpected delays or trip interruptions. It is best to consult the expertise of a travel advisor who can guide you on the coverage options available for your specific trip, including if your destination requires visitors to carry travel insurance.
  • Clean accommodations—When booking a place to stay, look for accommodations that prioritize cleanliness and have implemented additional housekeeping standards since the start of the pandemic. Earlier this year, as part of its Diamond designation, AAA enhanced its housekeeping evaluation to include objective, scientific validation of the cleanliness of common surfaces throughout hotels. Hotels that meet these new standards are now recognized as Inspected Clean and a current listing can be found here.
  • Safe travel = smart travel—Everything from airports to restaurants to attractions will be busier this Thanksgiving, which means more people congregating. Masks are still required for everyone on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States and in U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations. The CDC also recommends everyone wear a mask indoors in public if they are in an area of substantial or high transmission.
  • Domestic and international travel guidelines—As of November 8, the U.S. opened its borders to fully vaccinated travelers. The CDC has updated its guidance to reflect these changes. When traveling within the U.S., fully vaccinated travelers do not need a negative viral test or to self-quarantine. For international travel, refer to the CDC for specific guidelines.

Thanksgiving Travel – travelers Headed to Big Cities and Beaches This Thanksgiving

AAA Travel continues to see a strong recovery that began over the summer and will continue into the holiday season. AAA booking data reveals that big cities and tropical destinations are topping travelers’ list this Thanksgiving both domestically and abroad:

Roads Will Be Bustling

INRIX, in collaboration with AAA, predicts drivers will experience the worst congestion heading into the holiday weekend as commuters leave work early and mix with holiday travelers. Major metro areas across the U.S. could see more than double the delays versus typical drive times, with drivers in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and New York City likely to experience more than three times the delays.

“Thanksgiving is one of the busiest holidays for road trips and this year will be no different even during the pandemic,” says Bob Pishue, Transportation Analyst, INRIX. “Drivers around major metros must be prepared for significant delays, especially Wednesday afternoon. Knowing when and where congestion will build can help drivers avoid the stress of sitting in traffic.”

Expected Number May Change

AAA notes that the actual number of holiday travelers could fluctuate as we approach Thanksgiving. If there is an increase in reported COVID-19 cases, some people may decide to stay home, while others may note the progress in vaccinations and make last-minute decisions to travel. AAA recommends working with a travel advisor who can help you plan a vacation that meets your needs and comfort level this holiday season. To get started and to learn more, visit AAA.com/Travel.

Forecast Methodology:

In cooperation with AAA, IHS Markit—a world leader in critical information, analytics and expertise—developed a unique methodology to forecast actual domestic travel volumes. The economic variables used to forecast travel for the current holiday are leveraged from IHS Markit’s proprietary databases. These data include macroeconomic drivers such as employment, output, household net worth, asset prices including stock indices, interest rates, housing market indicators, and variables related to travel and tourism, including prices of gasoline, airline travel and hotel stays.

Historical travel volume estimates come from DK SHIFFLET’s TRAVEL PERFORMANCE/MonitorSM. The PERFORMANCE/MonitorSM is a comprehensive study measuring the travel behavior of U.S. residents. DK SHIFFLET contacts over 50,000 U.S. households each month to obtain detailed travel data, resulting in the unique ability to estimate visitor volume and spending, identify trends and forecast U.S. travel behavior—all after the trips have been taken.

The travel forecast is reported in-person trips. In particular, AAA and IHS Markit forecast the total U.S. holiday travel volume and expected mode of transportation.

Direct flights are now available to top destinations including New York, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Orlando, Washington, Seattle and Philadelphia from as little as €169 each way including taxes and charges. Aer Lingus will also re-introduce flying from Shannon in March to New York and Boston with 14 flights per week to the USA.

The reopening of non-essential travel is hugely significant for the US-Irish business community and the business travel market. According to the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland, there are over 800 US companies in Ireland, employing 180,000 people. And over 650 Irish companies have a base in the US.

In order to make travel easier, Aer Lingus has partnered with VeriFLY. By downloading the VeriFLY app and uploading Covid-19 related documentation required for their destination, Aer Lingus customers can ensure that all of their Covid-19 related documentation is verified before travel.

Aer Lingus has also extended its market-leading ‘Book with Confidence’ policy which allows all customers travelling with the airline to change their travel dates free of charge, and as many times as they wish, up to seven days before they travel. The flexible booking policy is available on all bookings up until 30th September 2022.**

In a further boost to Irish tourism Aer Lingus is delighted to support the return of US College Football to the Aviva Stadium next summer. The Aer Lingus College Football Classic will see the teams and thousands of Northwestern Wildcats and the Nebraska Cornhuskers supporters travel to Ireland during August 2022, and the much-anticipated Navy-Notre Dame fixture is to return to the Aviva Stadium in August 2023.

Lynne Embleton, CEO of Aer Lingus said:

“Today marks a very important moment for Aer Lingus, the travel and tourism sector and the whole Irish economy. Aer Lingus will reconnect friends and family, businesses and colleagues on both sides of the Atlantic. After 20 long months, we are re-establishing Dublin Airport as the most efficient connecting hub between the US and Europe.”

Peter O’Neill, COO of Aer Lingus said:

“Customers travelling to the USA are advised to check details about the latest travel requirements on AerLingus.com, as the entry requirements change from today. To make the process easier for our customers, we have invested in VeriFLY a travel pass app that allows users to upload and ensure that their travel documentation is checked and approved before travelling to the airport. Aer Lingus customers cannot check-in online ahead of flights to / from the USA unless they use VeriFLY. This will allow customers to get their online boarding pass and go straight to bag drop / boarding gate, and avoid queuing at check-in. Our teams across the airline are looking forward to welcoming customers back to the airport and back on-board.”

November 10, 2021 – The latest sustainability news hotels: Jin Jiang International (Holdings) Co., Ltd. including their affiliates Jin Jiang Hotels, Louvre Hotels Group and Radisson Hotel Group, and other leading groups with 25,000 hotels total, launch an initiative to set common definition of hotel sustainability to drive responsible travel & tourism.

Sustainability news hotels

In a unique cooperation between the World Travel & Tourism Council, the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance and leading hotel companies, in consultation with distribution partners and key Tourism & Travel stakeholders, the hotel industry celebrates a responsible return to business with an initiative to raise the global basic level of hotel sustainability in a clear and transparent manner for all travelers and stakeholders.

The Basic Sustainability framework will critically deliver on a common starting point for hotel sustainability accessible to all hotel actors worldwide– whether they are part of large international Group or independents. Providing this common understanding for all hotels worldwide with actions that have a positive impact on planet and people will drive real change by stimulating the demand for responsible travel.

The Basic Sustainability framework reinforces and works in complement to the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance’s Pathway to Net Positive Hospitality, which aims to enable every hotel to improve their impact, whatever their starting point on their sustainability journey. and will encompass four clear stages and practical tools that guide the industry towards a regenerative impact on our planet.

In the coming months, the hotel groups joint in this initiative, will work in close alignment with the WTTC, the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance and key stakeholders, on finalizing the essential sustainability actions with demonstrable positive impact, and collaborate to share tools and best practices with each other and the wider industry to ensure all hotels start on a pathway towards the targets of the COP 21 Paris Accord.

The sustainability basic framework is aligned with main aspirations such as the UNWTO Glasgow Declaration and the UNSDG’s decade of action.

Current partner groups include leading hotel companies such as Accor, Barceló Hotel Group, Huazhu including their affiliate Deutsche Hospitality, Indian Hotels Company Limited, Jin Jiang International (Holdings) Co., Ltd. including their affiliates Jin Jiang Hotels, Louvre Hotels Group and Radisson Hotel Group, Meliá Hotels International, Minor Hotels including NH Hotel Group.

The Basic Sustainability framework is a step-change that will help every hotel to get started on their sustainability journey faster. This will move us at Radisson Hotel Group, together with our owners Jin Jiang International, and the whole industry closer towards the ultimate target of Net Zero and, at the same time responds to our clients’ demand for sustainable travel options that are easy to understand.” – Federico J. González , CEO Radisson Hotel Group.

November 9, 2021 – The world’s first Warner Bros hotel will open in Abu Dhabi in November. (picture courtesy WB)

Warner Bros hotel

November 11 is the opening date set for The WB Abu Dhabi, operated by Hilton under the Curio Collection brand.

The 257-room hotel is located directly opposite Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi theme park on Yas Island, the world’s largest indoor theme park. Guests checking in to the new hotel can expect to see their favourite stories and characters from Warner Bros brought to life via a journey through film and television that starts from the moment they arrive. The WB Abu Dhabi hotel will welcome guests with digital screens spanning the height of the eight-storey building, playing original content created for the hotel.

A Friends fountain inspired by the hit sitcom will be the first thing visitors pass on their way to the hotel lobby, which is filled with curated artwork, props and costumes from Warner Bros films and TV shows.

Guests should keep an eye out for some of their favourite characters such as Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck who are likely to be spotted during a stay at the Warner Bros hotel.

Each of the rooms has unique elements, including artwork inspired by three themes. The first theme, “From Script to Screen”, highlights standout moments from Warner Bros’ films and shows. The second theme, “Artist Confidential”, celebrates a variety of talent in front of and behind the camera in some of Warner Bros’ favourite productions. The third theme, “The Vault”, will depict some rarely seen images from the company’s most memorable archives.

The WB Abu Dhabi will also have five restaurants, including Sidekicks, The Director’s Club and The Overlook, a lounge with an infinity pool and 360-degree views over the island, theme park and the Arabian Gulf.

Little touches such as the piano from Westworld playing a familiar tune as guests dine, or children being able to call their favourite Looney Tunes characters for room service treats that will be delivered by Bugs Bunny, make this hotel something special.

“Opening the doors to the first-ever Warner Bros branded hotel is a moment that we have long dreamt of, and it’s truly magnificent,” said Pam Lifford, president of WarnerMedia Global Brands and Experiences. “The Warner Bros Themed Entertainment team and our incredible partners at Miral and Hilton, designed this with fans in mind and have curated an outstanding hospitality experience that gives guests from around the world a unique way to further connect with the iconic Warner Bros brands, franchises and characters they love.”

As well as being within walking distance of Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi, the hotel has plenty of other leisure facilities for guests to enjoy.

There’s a family pool area, a children’s club, a high-tech fitness centre and a spa, which will be the ideal place to unwind after a day exploring the six immersive lands at Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi.

The WB hotel will also have The Prop Shop, where guests can purchase a souvenir from a collection of artworks and props, to take home a little piece of Warner Bros history.

November 9, 2021 – Iberia airlines already flies to New York, Miami, Chicago, Boston, and Los Angeles

Iberia airlines flies to the US

Iberia, along with American Airlines, British Airways, and Finnair offers a global network linking more than 400 destinations in 100 nations of Europe and North America, including Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico

Today the United States is reopening its borders to tourists from the European Union.

As in all markets where Covid-10 restrictions are being lifted, Iberia is resuming its flights and even adding destinations, such as Dallas, San Francisco, and Washington DC, scheduled for the summer season that begins in April and will be available for booking in the near future.

Dallas, an All-new Destination for Iberia

Starting in April, Iberia will operate four weekly return flights from Madrid to this north Texas city, which is the hub of American Airlines, with which Iberia has a Joint Business Agreement (JBA), facilitating one-ticket connections to a large number of US cities. British Airways and Finnair are also partners in the JBA, which covers routes between Europe and the North Atlantic.

Direct to Washington DC

Iberia’s plans to fly from Madrid to the US capital were interrupted by the outbreak of the pandemic, but now they are back on track for four weekly return flights starting in April. The city boasts not only the seats of the three branches of government –the White House, the Capitol building hosting the two houses of congress, and the Supreme Court– but also major museums like the Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest.

Return to San Francisco

Summer flights to the West Coast city will be resumed in 2022, with three return flights per week from Madrid starting in April.

Major Presence in United States

These destinations will bring to a total of nine the number of cities served directly by Iberia in the United States, the Spanish airline’s most important market

In the current winter season that began on 31 October, Iberia has scheduled 70 flights per week between Spain and the US, reaching the same cities it served before the pandemic began.

Specifically, the airline is operating 10 weekly return flights to both New York and Miami, five flights a week to Chicago, and three weekly flights to Boston and Los Angeles. It is also flying four times a week to San Juan in Puerto Rico, a destination included in the North Atlantic JBA with American Airlines, British Airways y Finnair.

The JBA linking Iberia, American Airlines, British Airways, and Finnair

The four airlines have joined forces to offer their customers a global network of routes linking more than 400 cities in 100 countries of Europe and North America, which will now be enriched with access to Spanish destinations by travellers from the additional US cities served by Iberia.

Customers of the four airlines will enjoy numerous advantages under the terms of the JBA, in addition to a much wider range of destinations, flying times and better connections.

November 9, 2021 – Finnair is preparing for the continued expected gradual opening of Asia, and plans to serve nearly 100 destinations in Asia, the US and Europe during the summer season, which begins on 27 March 2022. The airline will open new long-haul routes to Busan in South Korea, Tokyo Haneda, Dallas in the US, and will also have Sapporo as a summer destination for the first time.

Finnair

“We look forward to the world continuing opening again,” says Ole Orvér, Chief Commercial Officer. “Before the pandemic, Japan was our single largest market outside our home market Finland, and we look forward to returning to all our five destinations in Japan. We are also opening a new route to Busan in South Korea, demonstrating our continuous commitment to offering the best and most sustainable connections between Europe and Asia via our Helsinki hub.”

“We are also pleased to strengthen our network in the US by adding Dallas as a new destination. Our customers will be able to enjoy great connections to other cities in North America through the extensive network of our alliance partner, American Airlines,” says Ole Orvér.

If travel restrictions allow, the airline will resume service to all the five destinations in Japan it served before the pandemic – Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo – and launch a new service to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. Altogether, the airline will fly up to 40 weekly flights between Helsinki and Japan in summer 2022.

Finnair flies daily to Tokyo Narita and Haneda, offering a total of 14 weekly frequencies to the capital of Japan.

Also flies daily to Nagoya and Osaka and will introduce double dailies to Osaka in June.  The Sapporo route will be introduced for the summer season for the first time with two weekly frequencies, and Fukuoka in Southern Japan is served with three weekly flights.

It connects customers to key Asian megacities, flying to Shanghai and daily to Hong Kong, Seoul, Singapore and Bangkok.

Also offers daily flights to Delhi as of June. The new Busan route in South Korea will be launched in March with three weekly frequencies.

In North America, they will fly to Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, and open a route to Dallas as a new destination. Dallas will be added to the network as of 7 February 2022 and will be operated four times a week, with excellent connections to Finnair’s partner American Airlines’ network.

As intercontinental traffic grows, they will also strengthen its European network from Helsinki with smooth connections to more than 70 European cities, including new destinations Zagreb and Larnaca.

Also offers double daily flights to cities like Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Vienna, Zürich, Gdansk and Milan, and even more daily frequencies to Paris, London, Berlin, Warsaw, Brussels, St Petersburg as well as the Scandinavian and Baltic cities.

The Helsinki Airport is expanding, with the new Terminal 2 entrance, arrivals hall and travel centre with the new parking and public transportation arrangements opening in December 2021, and new security control and check-in area opening in summer 2022. The expansion of the airport further supports the Finnair customer experience with smooth and reliable transfers at Helsinki.

“We look forward to being able to serve more customers in a more personal way. I also look forward to updating you on some additional destinations and routes within the coming weeks,” finishes Ole Orvér.

All products can be found on Finnair.com and the company’s mobile application.

All customers in boarding groups 2 and 3, i.e. who do not have a connecting flight or have not booked priority boarding, must check in their hand luggage at the desk, at no extra cost (max. 10 kg and 55x40x20 cm).
You can take a smaller bag or briefcase on board (max. 35x20x20 cm) which you must place under the seat in front of you.
If you’re flying with a baby, you can carry everything your baby needs inside your hand luggage.
Try to store your luggage quickly and tidily without blocking the aisle to speed up boarding.
On the day of the flight, remember to go to the airport in good time to drop off your hand luggage at the check-in desk.
