Luxury’s Great Reimagining
The world has experienced a seismic cultural shift following the events of the last several years, according to a study exploring the impact on the values and aspirations that matter most to guests, conducted in collaboration with creative agency Team One.

“We are looking to the great reimaginers, people who perceive crises as moments of opportunity to rethink their lives and reimagine the world around them. Our collective mindset has changed from viewing travel as a luxury commodity to an activity vital to overall well-being,” said Tina Edmundson, Global Brand and Marketing Officer, Marriott International.

“As we grow our portfolio of luxury hotels and resorts in some of the most iconic and compelling destinations globally, our expanding footprint allows us to offer the transformative experiences that lead to a renewed sense of purpose and enhanced mental and physical well-being for the modern luxury traveler.”

The Ritz-Carlton Leads Through Innovation While Pursuing Global Growth
Showcasing a new contemporary aesthetic and the renowned brand’s legendary service, The Ritz-Carlton continues to lead through innovation as it thoughtfully grows its portfolio in the world’s most exciting destinations.

In 2022, the iconic brand drove global buzz with debuts in New York’s NoMad neighborhood and in Amman, in addition to celebrating the launch of Evrima, the first yacht from The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection.

In the year ahead, the brand expects to open two new hotels in North America, including its first property in America’s Pacific Northwest region with The Ritz-Carlton, Portland, and The Ritz-Carlton Paradise Valley, The Palmeraie in Arizona’s coveted Scottsdale area. Set above the city skyline, The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne, is slated to grow the brand’s footprint in Australia next year, while The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka, is expected to deliver a new offering in the business district of this southwestern Japanese city.

Ritz-Carlton Reserve anticipates expanding its exclusive portfolio in 2023 with Rissai Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve close to the historic Chinese valley of Jiuzhaigou and Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve located off the West Coast of Saudi Arabia and part of the country’s Red Sea project.

St. Regis Celebrates its Vanguard Spirit in Alluring New Destinations

St. Regis continues to solidify its position as a global luxury icon by bringing its vanguard spirit, signature glamor, and celebrated rituals to some of the world’s most desired destinations.

Highlighting a commitment to growing its resort portfolio, in 2023 the brand expects to debut The St. Regis Kanai Resort, an enchanting haven nestled in a 620-acre nature reserve along Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula with ocean views from every guestroom.

In the year ahead St. Regis also anticipates expanding its footprint in North America with The St. Regis Chicago, an exquisite architectural marvel envisioned by Jeanne Gang Studio.

The iconic brand is also slated to bring its acclaimed Butler Service and storied legacy to Belgrade and is expected to open its first two properties in Saudi Arabia by debuting a hotel in Riyadh and a resort located on its own private island within the Red Sea project. This past year also marked St. Regis openings in Qatar, India, Kuwait, and Indonesia.

W Hotels Continues Pushing the Boundaries & Expanding to Iconic Destinations

In 2022, W Hotels introduced an evolved lens on its unassuming approach to luxury and is set to infuse subtle sophistication into each of its 67 hotels around the world. W pushes the boundaries of elevated design, regionally inspired programming and its iconic “Whatever/Whenever” service, which has been refined for the next generation of travelers.

With the opening of W Algarve – atop the dramatic cliffs of Southern Portugal – and W Costa Navarino – located along the sandy shorelines of Greece – the brand debuted in two sought-after locales in 2022, providing a glimpse into W’s new vision.

This year also brought further growth in the Middle East with the addition of W Dubai – Mina Seyahi, rising 31 stories above the Arabian Gulf, and in Canada with the W Toronto, which nods to the city’s rich musical heritage with Canada’s first W Sound Suite – the brand’s signature recording studio experience – and celebrates Toronto’s storied art scene, diversity of culture and legacy of inclusivity.

Looking ahead to 2023, W Hotels anticipates debuting in Prague, Budapest, Edinburgh, Sydney, Macau, and Milan. Also slated for later next year, W New York – Union Square and W Hollywood are expected to emerge newly transformed, embodying the fully reimagined W experience.

EDITION’s Rapid Expansion Continues in Top Destinations

Known for sophisticated design, a curated taste of the locale, and modern service, EDITION Hotels is rapidly expanding internationally in 2023 with new openings planned across several regions, including the brand’s first properties in Italy, Mexico, and Southeast Asia.

With 15 hotels currently in the global portfolio, EDITION is projected to grow its personal and intimate hospitality experience to 21 total destinations by the end of 2023, with expected openings next year to include Rome, Riviera Maya at Kanai, Tokyo, Ginza, Singapore, Jeddah, and Doha.

The Luxury Collection Brings Transformational Experiences and Destination-Rooted Authenticity
The Luxury Collection’s growing ensemble of more than 120 hotels around the world offers the promise of authentic experiences that are highly immersive and deeply reflective of the destination.

In 2022, the brand showcased elevated palatial interiors and world-class epicurean delights in Madrid with the opening of Santo Mauro, brought luxurious coastal charm to the idyllic Greek island of Paros through Cosme, and made its debut in Australia with the opening of The Tasman in Hobart, a waterfront city steeped in rich history.

Radisson RED Liverpool

Radisson RED Liverpool brings its buzz to iconic heritage building

Radisson RED Liverpool

Radisson RED Liverpool brings its buzz to iconic heritage building

December 14, 2022 –

The first Radisson RED hotel in the North of England has arrived in Liverpool. Located in a thoughtfully renovated Grade II-listed property that first opened as one of the original British railway hotels in the 1800s

Radisson RED Liverpool

Radisson RED Liverpool blends history, legacy, and eclectic design as it arrives in this lively city. The hotel is also a culinary destination thanks to its modern barbecue and robata grill restaurant, Stoke. It offers classic dishes with a grilled twist paired with unrivalled views of the neoclassical architecture and acclaimed concert venue of St George’s Hall, as well as overlooking the city’s cultural district

Radisson RED Liverpool iconic building – previously known as Northern Western Hall – dates back to 1871 and is located next to, and connected with, Liverpool Lime Street train station. The hotel was originally designed by locally-born Alfred Waterhouse – the architect behind London’s Natural History Museum and Manchester Town Hall – as one of the British Transport Hotels, offering direct links to the neighboring railway station. From the 1930s, the building was largely unused except for student accommodation in the 1990s.

The extensive renovation works saw the restoration of a nineteenth century stained glass window and a grand sandstone staircase. Stained glass experts were enlisted to reconstruct the six-meter-high window above the staircase to fill the atrium with natural light and offer a focal point for guests as they arrive through the main entrance. More than 792 hours were spent refurbishing the grand staircase and world-renowned polishers added the finishing touches to the 94-meter handrail. The building’s unmissable turrets and spires – original features from the 1800s – have also been restored to enhance the hotel’s grandeur.

The 10-storey hotel includes 201 guest rooms and suites, some overlooking St George’s Hall, featuring Radisson RED’s signature design-focused, bold, cutting-edge design. A 1960s-style scooter and sidecar as well as a submarine sculpture can be found in the hotel, in honor of the city’s famous music scene and, arguably the city’s most famous export, The Beatles. Bespoke art pieces created by local artist Indigo Art are found in guest rooms and around the hotel, paying homage to Liverpool’s best-known faces, buildings, and culture, including an iconic image of The Beatles crossing London’s Abbey Road. Additional artworks include depictions of local landmarks and hand drawn illustrations in red, added to black and white photographs, such as an image of the Liver Bird, the city’s symbol that appears on its coat of arms and sits atop the Royal Liver Building.

Famed music and entertainment venues such as the Empire Theatre and St George’s Hall are on the hotel’s doorstep, while the famous Royal Albert Dock, retail and leisure destination Liverpool ONE, and vibrant nightlife are close by, making Radisson RED Liverpool the ideal base from which to explore the city. Radisson RED Liverpool

Destination restaurant Stoke takes center stage on the ground floor of the hotel, offering diners a menu focused on ‘farm-to-fork’ cuisine working with local suppliers, including an 800g 38-day dry aged and grass-fed ribeye, Dover sole with seasonal herbs, and whole roasted chicken, as well as plenty of vegetarian options such as sticky barbeque maitake mushrooms and truffle arancini. The restaurant also features an open kitchen and robata grill.

Guests can work out at the in-house gym featuring the latest fitness equipment, or find the perfect space for a meeting, event, or celebration. Radisson RED Liverpool has five meeting rooms on the lower ground floor for up to 50 people for private events, as well as a more intimate private dining room with views over St George’s Hall that can accommodate up to 8 people.

Tom Flanagan Karttunen, Area Senior Vice President, Northern & Western Europe at Radisson Hotel Group, says: “The Radisson RED brand and the city of Liverpool are the perfect match, both representing fun and vibrancy with strong links to music, art, and design. The building has undergone an incredible transformation. It’s one of the first buildings that visitors to the city will see when they arrive so we’ve worked hard to create an unforgettable experience for both locals and tourists.”

Gary Waring, General Manager at Radisson RED Liverpool, said: “The opening of Radisson RED Liverpool and the building’s renovation have been greatly anticipated across the city for some time and we’re thrilled to finally reveal the finished look. Liverpool is an incredibly unique place and we’ve worked hard to reflect this throughout the hotel, paying tribute to local icons and giving a nod to the building’s rich heritage. Bringing an exciting food and drink venue to the city was also a key priority. We are looking forward to welcoming guests and creating a real must-visit destination.”

The Radisson RED brand has a presence in other UK locations, including the multi-award-winning Radisson RED Glasgow and the all-new Radisson RED London Heathrow. Radisson RED Liverpool

Christmas markets

Top ten unusual Christmas markets around the world

Christmas markets

Top ten unusual Christmas markets around the world

From life sized gingerbread houses to floating ice rinks, travel experts have named the top ten Christmas markets for tourists to visit around the world – and two of them are in the UK. Experts at luxury cruise company, Panache Cruises have researched the ten most unusual Christmas markets around the world which visitors can explore.

Christmas markets

From candy cane Christmas trees to real-life gingerbread houses, there are some incredible attractions on offer at festive markets across the globe for travel lovers to explore. Some of the most unusual include floating market stalls in The Netherlands, and the opportunity to experience a walk back in time to a Victorian Christmas in California.

James Cole, founder and managing director of Panache Cruises said: “Christmas markets are a fantastic way to enjoy the festive season and there are some incredible ones for travellers who are prepared to explore that little bit further. “Some cities around the world really take their Christmas markets to the max – in Toronto they have a life-size gingerbread house you can actually walk around and in The Netherlands there is a massive market in caves underneath the city’s castle ruins. “There are also some unusual markets in the UK too: York offers a haunted tour of the ghosts of Christmas past, and Edinburugh has a massive Street of Light which illuminates across the whole city.

“You can really get into the festive spirit by exploring some of the most unusual Christmas markets different countries around the world have to offer.”

Leiden, The Netherlands – The Markets on Water
Leiden’s famous floating Christmas market is rated one of the best year on year. On top of the city’s oldest canal is where visitors will find boats filled with almost 100 stalls selling food, drinks and handmade gifts. There is even a floating ice rink and regular stage performances. Just 30 minutes away from Amsterdam, Leiden’s market on water is one of the most unique Christmas activities to visit.

Gardens by the Bay, Singapore – Candy Cane Christmas Tree
Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay attracts millions of visitors each year to visit the Christmassy displays. Magnificent light sculptures cover the park and an ice cave home to impressive floral ice sculptures. But one of the most popular attractions at the gardens during the festive period is the so-called candy cane Christmas tree. Decorated in red and white poinsettia flowers the tree stands at eight metres tall and six metres wide, bringing Christmas to Singapore in a spectacular way.

Toronto, Canada – Life-size Gingerbread House
Those in Toronto know Christmas is coming when the city’s lifesize gingerbread house is put up at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. Consisting of almost 9000 gingerbread bricks, visitors can actually walk through the two-storey gingerbread display and fight the temptation to have a nibble on the walls. There are also market stalls selling crafts, foods and drinks to check out too to fill visitors with Christmas joy and delicious treats.

NYC, USA – Winter Village Igloos
The Bank of America Winter Village is one of the most jam-packed Christmas markets in the world. With a 17,000-square-foot ice skating rink is completely free to use, over 170 glasshouse market stalls to explore, the opportunity to try out iceless curling and best of all, cosy igloo for private hire to truly feel like a winter wonderland experience served with gourmet food and drinks

Valkenburg, The Netherlands – Underground Cave Markets
Valkenburg is home to Europe’s largest underground Christmas market. The caves are underneath the city’s castle ruins and are filled with festive market stalls, spectacular decorations, life-size nativity sculptures and Christmas trees. The caves are turned into an extraordinary underground winter wonderland over the festive season.

California, USA – A Victorian Christmas
Although more of a common sight in Britain, a Victorian Christmas has made its way to the west coast of America, with a Charles Dickens theme to it. The Dickens Fair offers visitors a step back in time with theatres, pubs, shops, stalls and music halls. With regular entertainment shows acting out Dickens’ stories, the Fair is a wonderful place to explore a Victorian-themed Christmas.

Bariloche, Argentina – The ‘Little Switzerland’ in South America
The city of Bariloche is tucked away in the Andes and has been called the ‘Little Switzerland’ of Argentina. Wooden huts, ski resorts, bar cabins and chocolate shops adorn the streets to make this South American city feel like a snowy European destination. Picturesque landscapes make visitors feel as though they really are experiencing Christmas in the Swiss Alps.

Bondi Beach, Australia – Christmas in the Sun
A Christmas in summertime is not what a usual festive image is, but for Australians, Christmas in the sun is the norm. Visiting the Bondi Beach Christmas markets is a completely different festive experience for many of us. With shorts instead of coats and flip flops instead of gloves, the market stalls line the seafront selling food, drinks and handcrafted gifts.

Edinburgh, Scotland – The Street of Light
With the backdrop of the historic 900 year old castle, Edinburgh knows how to put on a fantastic Christmas market. With rides, food, crafts, drinks and activities for visitors, the city also hosts a virtual Christmas market for those who can’t travel to Scotland. One of the interesting parts of the market is the 60,000 lights installation along the ‘Street of Light’ – a colourful kaleidoscope of festive lights and lasers is one of the best light shows in the world.

York, England – The Ghosts of Christmas Past Tour
York is often named the most haunted city in the world – and for Christmas visitors to the city, a festive ghost tour is a must-do. Certainly one of the most unusual Christmas activities, the walking ghost tour takes two hours and tells many haunted December stories along the way about the ghosts of Christmas past. And no trip to York at Christmas time is complete without a visit to the markets to offer a wonderful wintery experience before the haunted nighttime falls.

The Glamorous Spirit and Celebrated Traditions of St. Regis in Jakarta

December 07, 2022 –

St. Regis Hotels and Resorts, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of 30 extraordinary brands, today announced the highly anticipated opening of The St. Regis Jakarta. Born from the distinct legacy of one of the world’s most storied luxury brands, The St. Regis in Jakarta will offer guests and local luminaries a new viewpoint on sophisticated dining, bespoke service and avant-garde design in the heart of the city’s Kuningan, Sudirman and Thamrin central business districts.

St. Regis in Jakarta

“We are delighted to expand our brand presence in Indonesia with the debut of The St. Regis Jakarta, our second property in this vibrant country,” said George Fleck, Vice President and Global Brand Leader, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts. “The St. Regis brand’s founding family, the Astors, were known as visionaries of their time, embracing change and innovation while maintaining a strong sense of history and heritage. It is in this spirit that we welcome guests to enjoy The St. Regis in Jakarta, and we look forward to providing impeccable service and exquisite experiences in Indonesia’s capital city.”

The hotel is situated within the Golden Triangle of Jakarta, which extends from Central to South Jakarta and is one of the fastest-evolving central business districts in the Asia Pacific region. The St. Regis Jakarta is ideally located within an exclusive enclave comprised of foreign embassies, government, and commercial spaces as well as upscale retail, and is an easy 45-minute drive from Soekarno Hatta International Airport.

“When we think about luxury, we think about a legacy of shared memories that transcends generations. Our aspiration is for the St. Regis Jakarta to be that theatre of memories and a theatre of culture where the symphony of Indonesia’s cultural refinements – design, music, and art – creates extraordinary spaces for the next-gen and multi-gen connections, conversations, and celebrations,” said Shirley Tan, Chief Executive Officer, Rajawali Property Group.

Every St. Regis hotel celebrates the culture and identity of its destination, and the design of The St. Regis Jakarta, conceptualized by the award-winning New York-based interior designer Alexandra Champalimaud, was inspired by Indonesia’s rich musical traditions. Embracing music and performance as a catalyst for personal experience forms the narrative of the hotel, and guests are greeted in the lobby by a kinetic chandelier titled “Sound of Light,” which was created by celebrated Czech glassmaker LASVIT and is synchronized with music by Indonesian composer Andi Rianto. The installation produces a shimmering light that dances across surfaces and spaces, showcasing the distinctive soundscapes of Indonesia and creating a glamorous welcome for arriving guests. Outdoor spaces, including the hotel’s entrance and swimming pool, feature artworks by renowned landscape architect Bill Bensley, with the theme of “Discovery.”

The St. Regis in Jakarta features 282 exquisitely appointed guest rooms, including 28 spacious suites ranging from 75 to 187 square meters, each featuring a private balcony. Meticulously created by the renowned G.A. Design team, the guest rooms reflect contemporary luxury and feature thoughtful touches throughout, such as custom-made cushions accented with embedded batik motifs by Indonesian designer, Iwan Tirta. Guests will also enjoy the St. Regis Butler Service, a personalized signature offering that has been a hallmark of the brand for more than a century, ensuring that each guest’s individual preferences are understood and anticipated at every turn.

Exceptional culinary journeys are presented through the hotel’s distinct culinary venues. The Drawing Room, located near the arrival lobby, is an elegant all-day lounge where guests can experience the signature traditions of St. Regis, such as Afternoon Tea and Champagne sabrage. The all-day dining Bel Étage celebrates Indonesia’s multicultural heritage with a collection of Indonesian dishes along with western, Asian, and Pan-Asian cuisines, from timeless classics to the chef’s personal recipes. Located in the heart of the hotel, Rosé is a deli where guests can enjoy artisanal coffees, teas, pastries, and cold cuts in a casual setting. The Pool Bar is a quiet spot that invites escape from the rush of urban life. The hotel’s signature St. Regis Bar, unique and different at every St. Regis hotel around the world, features a striking mural by Indonesian artist Eddy Susanto, which captures the interactive inspirations between art and jazz, and correlates the rhythm, energy, and spirit of the historical development of jazz in Indonesia.

The St. Regis Bar also presents the hotel’s unique twist on the brand’s signature libation, the Bloody Mary, which was created at The St. Regis New York. The Batavia Mary, which reflects the old colonial name for Jakarta and was once the capital of the archipelago’s spice trade, features a local rice wine spiced with chili and tangy vinegar and was inspired by the bold flavors of Indonesian cuisine. The St. Regis Bar also features an inspired list of cocktails from the House of Astor in New York and The Violet Hour Ritual, where guests are invited to discover a collection of martinis served from a bespoke trolley, including the bewitchingly-named Violet Hour, Flame of Love and Poet’s Dream martinis.

With more than 2,500 square meters of dedicated event spaces, the hotel makes the perfect venue for cherished celebrations, gatherings, and meetings. The Astor Ballroom, with a capacity of more than 1,000 people, features a magnificent LASVIT ceiling masterpiece which depicts the mountains of Indonesia. The Caroline Astor Ballroom, the hotel’s junior ballroom, includes its own reception area and private dressing room.

The St. Regis in Jakarta Spa is a sanctuary of refined relaxation and offers revitalizing treatments based on a philosophy of “New Life and Fertility” with ingredients from the volcanic mountains of Java. The spa offers a menu of signature treatments as well as OxyGeneo® facial treatments for rejuvenated, fresh, and healthy skin. To complement guests’ health and fitness goals, the hotel also offers a Fitness Centre with the latest Technogym equipment, professional personal training sessions, and scheduled group exercise classes.

“The opening of The St. Regis in Jakarta is the latest chapter in the marvelous history of St. Regis, unveiling the best address where Jakarta’s luminaries can gather for private teas, midnight suppers, and glamorous galas in this vibrant city,” said Marc Handl, General Manager, The St. Regis Jakarta. “We are looking forward to serving our guests in the finest of these traditions, beautifully complemented by exceptional Indonesian spirit, style and hospitality.”
