The first port of call is Hydra. A beautiful small island, yet so great in history that stands out among many others ! Elegance, tradition and majesty.

These are the three key -words that point out the beauty and significance of the island, that goes beyond what meets the eye. The cobblestone streets on the island, where donkeys are the primary mode of transportation, are lined with aristocratic mansions, forts, and churches steeped in history.

Hydra, the ancient Hydrea , is a long narrow island, with inhospitable shores, largely barren of vegetation and short of water. Everywhere mountainous, it rises to 590 m in Mt Klimaki. Most of its 2387 inhabitants are concentrated in its only town. There are no motor vehicles. Since its discovery as a location for film -making, the island has become a fashionable artists’ colony and retreat of intellectuals and has attracted also a less orthodox fringe.

Right after Poros, we will be visiting the island of Aegina, the land of legendary Achilles! Aegina, the island of pistachios, is the largest island of the Saronic Gulf and is the favourite holiday ‘refuge’ of the Athenians, as well as a preferred island of tourists.

Entering the port, one can enjoy the okra and pink shades of the traditional Greek houses, and the busy life of summer and winter.

The world famous temple of Aphaia (Athena) imposes at the top of a pine-covered hill in the northeastern part of Aegina. On a clear day, one can see the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion and the Acropolis of Athens from the site of Aphaia. These three temples form the ‘holy triangle’ of the ancient times. On the island there is also the church of Saint Nectarios, which is one of the largest in the Balkans and contains a silver urn with the relics of St. Nectarios, the patron saint of the island

Grand Arrival Of Celebrity Cruise In Sydney

October 31, 2022 –

Celebrity Eclipse’s arrival in Sydney Harbour last week, Celebrity Cruises has returned to Australian waters after an absence of over a thousand days.

Celebrity Cruise In Sydney

In 2022-23, the ship will sail from Australia to New Zealand for a 12-night round voyage, marking the beginning of her season.

This is the first of 17 voyages departing through April. According to President and Chief Executive Officer Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, the sailing represents a watershed event for Celebrity and its team members. They have worked tirelessly to get to this point. “The return to Australia has been long desired, but someday has finally arrived,” she said.

“Returning to this region is another major milestone in the industry’s global revival as we sail into a bright future.” “We’ve been patiently waiting for this moment for so long, and to finally see the freshly painted blue hull of Celebrity Eclipse slice through the waters of Sydney Harbour didn’t disappoint,” said Vice President and Managing Director of Australia & APAC Tim Jones.

“We were one of the last major cruise markets to reopen, and we are extremely proud to be contributing to the tourism industries of Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific once more while also restoring the economies of critical coastal communities.”

Since Celebrity Cruises wants to bring Celebrity Edge to the Australian market next year, the return of Eclipse to Australian waters is crucial. Jones continued, saying, “The natural beauty of this area is what sets it apart from the rest, and we can’t wait to welcome a ship that has been specially created to bring its visitors closer to their surroundings.”

Whether you’re flying in from overseas or boarding right outside your door, the Celebrity Edge offers an unparalleled chance to see Australia’s unique landscapes in luxury.

Royal Caribbean – 1st to use renewable diesel fuel

Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean and sustainability

October 31, 2022 – Royal Caribbean 1st to use renewable diesel fuel

Royal Caribbean Group  became the first major cruise line operator to sail a cruise ship from a U.S. port while using renewable diesel fuel to meet part of the ship’s fuel needs when Navigator of the Seas set sail from the Port of Los Angeles. Part of the Group’s award-winning cruise line, Royal Caribbean International, the use of renewable fuel will reduce the ship’s carbon emissions.

Royal Caribbean and next steps towards Destination Net Zero

This key step in the Group’s pursuit of alternative fuels comes less than a year after the unveiling of Destination Net Zero, Royal Caribbean Group’s comprehensive decarbonization strategy.

“We are committed to investing in technologies and innovations that will help us reduce emissions and fulfill our purpose to deliver great vacations responsibly,” said Laura Hodges Bethge, Royal Caribbean Group’s Executive Vice President, Shared Services Operations. “As we celebrate this milestone, we continue to set our sights on other leading alternative solutions to meet our net zero goals.”

The renewable fuel being used by Navigator of the Seas contains less carbon than traditional marine fuels. While this fuel is produced from renewable raw materials, the production process for this fuel makes it molecularly identical to traditional marine gas oil — creating a “drop in” fuel that can be safely used with the ship’s existing engines.

The cruise company plans to continue using lower carbon fuel to meet part of the Los Angeles-based ship’s fuel needs as it evaluates the feasibility for long-term use, with ambitions to expand its usage to other ships across the fleet. This follows a similar trial by the Group’s joint venture partner, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, which is exploring a different process for developing a sustainable biofuel.

For the trial, Royal Caribbean Group has partnered with World Fuel Services to supply the renewable fuel to Navigator of the Seas. The Jankovich Company will deliver the fuel on behalf of World Fuel Services to the ship while at the Port of Los Angeles. Once fueled, Navigator of the Seas will set sail to Mexico.

“We are extremely proud to be a part of Royal Caribbean Group’s journey toward making the cruise industry more sustainable by leveraging our renewable fuel distribution capabilities and technical expertise to facilitate the use of renewable fuel in a marine application,” said Michael J. Kasbar, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, World Fuel Services Corporation.

In addition to testing the use of biofuel aboard Navigator of the Seas, Royal Caribbean Group is set to debut the cruise industry’s first hybrid-powered ship in summer 2023, as part of Silversea Cruises newest class of ships, the Nova class. The Group is also working to reduce emissions while at port by investing in shore power on its ships and collaborating with key cruise ports for its use. For example, in 2021, Royal Caribbean Group signed an agreement to bring shore power to PortMiami, which will enable ships to use electricity at port instead of burning fuel. The company also is introducing a new zero-energy cruise terminal in the Port of Galveston, Texas, that builds on its sustainable design efforts and will be a LEED-Gold certified facility.

Rosewood Hotel Milan to open in 2025

October 28 2022 –

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, a global leader in luxury travel and lifestyle experiences, has been appointed by real estate firm Gruppo Statuto to manage Rosewood Milan, which will open in 2025 in the heart of the city.
The new property marks the brand’s fourth hotel in Italy, following the recent announcements of Rosewood Rome and Rosewood Hotel Bauer in Venice. These three projects will join Rosewood’s beloved Italian estate resort, Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco in Tuscany, and demonstrate Rosewood’s strategic growth trajectory across Europe and within Italy particularly.

Rosewood Hotel Milan

Rosewood hotel Milan will be well-situated on the edge of the Quadrilatero della Moda, the city’s fashion district, and steps away from the famous shopping boulevard Via Montenapoleone, lined with iconic luxury boutiques, antique shops and bustling cafés. With 70 rooms, including approximately 20 suites, the property will encompass the historic and iconic Palazzo Branca and Palazzo della Banca Commerciale built in the 19th century and formerly home to the Italian Commercial Bank. This project is a welcome addition to Rosewood’s portfolio of revitalized historic buildings and properties, further illustrating the brand’s role as a thoughtful steward of time-honored spaces.

Guided by Rosewood’s A Sense of Place® philosophy, wherein the destination informs every element of the experience, the property will evoke the romantic grandeur of historic Milan juxtaposed with a contemporary design, blending seamlessly into this culturally rich and vibrant metropolis. Influences from the city’s role as a hub of global fashion will be evident throughout the property’s offerings, creating an urban oasis perfect for the creative luminaries that regularly pass through Milan.

Renowned Parisian firm Studio K.O. will oversee the design, creating a space that is eclectic, colorful and timeless all at once, melding classical details with modern touches that breathe new life and energy into the grand, historic building while respecting its cultural heritage. Rosewood Milan will be home to a bar and restaurant with a courtyard and garden, poised to become lively gathering spots that mirror the pulsating energy of the city. The property will also house the Asaya® wellness facility with three treatment rooms, an indoor pool and fitness center.

“This development comes with great excitement as we continue our growth in Europe and Italy specifically,” says Sonia Cheng, chief executive officer at Rosewood Hotel Group. “Rosewood continues to expand to destinations where we know our ‘affluential explorer’ guests want to travel. With all its culture and vitality, Milan ticks all the boxes for a Rosewood urban location and it will round out our portfolio of global fashion capitals where Rosewood has a presence, including our iconic properties in New York, Paris and London.”

“We are thrilled to partner with a brand such as Rosewood to bring these historic buildings back to life” says Giuseppe Statuto, chairman of Gruppo Statuto. “By merging our shared experiences and philosophies, we know this hotel will become an immediate icon of high hospitality in Milan—a trend-setting city that increasingly stands out in the world as an unmissable destination for international travelers and locals alike.”

Service Dog Joska gets Elite Status

Service Dog Joska gets Elite Status

October 27, 2022 – Service Dog Joska gets Elite Status

Holland America Line’s favorite four-legged friend, Joska the service dog, reached a milestone achievement of 700 cruise days on Rotterdam’s current 150th Anniversary Transatlantic Crossing, making her eligible to receive the Platinum Medallion, the highest past-guest award for cruising days. Joska, a 10-year-old black Labrador retriever, is the ultimate globetrotter and spends most of her days cruising on Holland America Line with her owners, Cornelia “Connie” and Cornelis Marinussen, who previously received their Platinum Medallions.

Service Dog Joska gets Elite Status

A special ceremony for Joska was held on board Rotterdam Oct. 26 to mark the milestone. Holland America Line President Gus Antorcha and Rotterdam’s Captain Werner Timmers presented Joska with her Platinum Medallion, 5-Star Mariner status (highest level) in the cruise line’s loyalty program and a selection of dog-friendly, Holland America Line-branded gifts.

“Joska is the first service animal to achieve this lofty status and we wanted to honor her with an event that shows her how special she is to everyone in our company,” said Antorcha. “Registered service animals are always welcome aboard Holland America Line ships, and Joska has become a member of our family. She not only brightens the spirits of everyone on board, but she also allows Connie to do what she loves most, which is to cruise and explore the world.”

The Dutch couple have been cruising with Holland America Line since 2013 and have taken nearly 60 cruises. From Alaska, Hawaii and Canada to Europe, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean, Joska has sailed on more than 50 Holland America Line voyages since joining the Marinussen family in 2014 to assist Cornelia, who is legally blind, and is among the most traveled dogs in the world.

Melia Collection in Ngorongoro

Melia Collection in Ngorongoro

October 26 2022 – Meliá Hotels International has announced the addition of a new hotel in the Ngorongoro crater in Tanzania, a special conservation area in which tourism is only possible if its ensures the utmost respect for the natural environment and local communities. The hotel has been a fixture in the nature reserve for some time, but will reopen in 2023 after a major renovation to adapt it to the needs of modern travellers, but without damaging the personality and authenticity of the hotel and its total integration with its natural environment, one of the characteristics of Meliá Collection hotels.

Melia Collection in Ngorongoro

After the renovation, the Ngorongoro Lodge will provide 52 rooms with views of the crater (24 of them suites), and will also offer 2 restaurants, a small barbecue restaurant, a pool and a spa.
Luxury and sustainability Together with the hotel owner, Albwardy Investments, with which Meliá operates other exceptional hotels in several destinations around the world, the company has designed a renovation project that pays special attention to protecting the natural environment, including the indigenous flora and fauna, waste management and energy efficiency.

The hotel will generate a large part of its energy through solar panels and will minimise electricity needs through the use of the traditional local fans that are more efficient than air-conditioning. It will also produce its own water for human consumption through a bottling plant that will process local water and avoid the use of plastics and transportation.

From the social point of view, the hotel will aim to integrate and promote Masai heritage and culture from within the lodge, offering jobs to the local Masai tribespeople and using indigenous decorations in the hotel made by local craftsmen and companies, with products which can also be sold to customers to generate an extra benefit for the community.

There are also plans to form partnerships with philanthropic projects similar to those at the Meliá Serengeti Lodge or Gran Meliá Arusha, such as the Dada Project or Sanaa, which support local women entrepreneurs and the most disadvantaged, as well as the NGO Born to Learn, based in Moshi, which runs a school and clinic for local children and their families.
As a whole, the Hotel Sustainability Programme will be aligned with the corporate values of Meliá Hotels International and will be offered to travellers with an interest in this part of the world as a fundamental attribute and key selling point. International recognition

Melia Collection in Ngorongoro is part of a select collection of lodges in the so-called “crater highlands” area in the Arusha region in northern Tanzania, 180 km from the city of Arusha with access to Kilimanjaro Airport (220 kms) and Lake Manyara, (41 kms). The Ngorongoro Crater is also known as “the Garden of Eden” due to its stunning biodiversity, with more than 20,000 herbivorous mammals and the largest concentration of major predators on earth, all of which play a fundamental role in maintaining the ecological balance, in addition to the incredible views over the 600-metre deep crater.

Melia Collection in Ngorongoro completes a portfolio of exclusive hotels operated by Meliá in Tanzania that have already obtained important international recognition, such as the Meliá Zanzibar, acknowledged as “Best All-Inclusive Resort” in East Africa by the World Luxury Awards, and which was already chosen as “ Best Initiative in Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility by the Worldwide Hospitality Awards, the Meliá Serengeti Lodge, named best Luxury Bush Lodge in East Africa, and the Gran Meliá Arusha, as best Luxury Business Hotel in Tanzania.

Curio Collection by Hilton Brand

Curio Collection by Hilton’s expansive global portfolio features more than 120 one-of-a-kind properties offering travelers authentic, curated experiences through distinctly local offerings and unexpected amenities. Each hotel is celebrated for its unique story from original architectural design to exceptional history.

Last month, Curio Collection by Hilton opened its first hotel in Brazil, Qoya Hotel Curitiba, Curio Collection by Hilton, an upscale hotel with robust amenities near Curitiba’s dynamic city center. The pet-friendly property features 168 rooms and suites, including a Presidential Suite, on-site fitness center, indoor pool, a Tereza Zanchi Spa, 690 square meters of flexible meeting space, and electric vehicle charging stations. Guests have access to various dining options, including the on-site Koré Restaurant, offering regionally inspired menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Bar Koré, serving a menu of light bites and exclusive cocktails in the hotel’s lobby, and room service.

Suryaa Hotel Pinhais, Curio Collection by Hilton is expected to join the brand portfolio by the end of 2022, delivering a boutique hotel experience for guests near the Alphaville Graciosa Golf Club. Close to Planta Folloni Park, Opera de Arame, the Botanical Garden of Curitiba and more of Pinhais’ renowned attractions, the pet-friendly property will offer 25 guest rooms and loft-style suites, several with golf course views. Guests will enjoy an on-site fitness center, indoor and outdoor pools, Koré Restaurant, and two meeting rooms.

Also expected to open by the end of 2022, the newly built Qoya Hotel São Paulo, Curio Collection by Hilton will be located in the Paulista avenue area, known as the home of several museums, cultural attractions and parks. Situated next to Casas das Rosas Museum and cultural center, the hotel will offer 166 rooms, including 14 suites, and guests will have access to a rooftop pool, on-site restaurant, lobby bar, fitness center and 300 square meters of flexible meeting space.

Qoya Hotel Curitiba, Curio Collection by Hilton currently participates, and Suryaa Hotel Pinhais, Curio Collection by Hilton and Qoya Hotel São Paulo, Curio Collection by Hilton will participate in Hilton Honors, the award-winning guest loyalty program for Hilton’s 18 distinct hotel brands. Members who book directly will have access to instant benefits, including a flexible payment slider that allows members to choose nearly any combination of Points and money to book a stay, exclusive member discounts, free standard Wi-Fi and access to the Hilton Honors mobile app.

Hilton celebrated a milestone in Brazil when it opened the beachfront Hilton in Rio de Janeiro’s famous Copacabana beach in 2017. Since then, the company has more than tripled its footprint in the country and now welcomes guests with a portfolio of 14 hotels across eight of Hilton’s industry-leading brands, including the 2022 debut of Curio Collection by Hilton in Curitiba and Tru by Hilton in Criciuma – also representing the first Tru by Hilton in the Caribbean and Latin America. With more than 10 additional hotels across six brands in the development pipeline, Hilton is on track to double its portfolio in Brazil over the next five years. As a whole, Hilton has more than 190 hotels open across the Caribbean and Latin America and continues to pursue additional growth opportunities in the region. It currently has a growing pipeline of more than 100 hotels throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.
